Today host Heather Creekmore delves into the topic of aging and the fear that often accompanies it. She talks about the cultural pressure to stay young, the struggle with body image, and the desire to remain relevant in a society that values youth. Heather shares insights from her new book, "Aging Gratefully," a 30-day devotional for women that covers various aspects of aging, from bodily changes to finding purpose in midlife and beyond. Throughout the discussion, she encourages listeners to consider the biblical perspective on aging and to embrace the reality of getting older with gratitude and trust in God's plan. Heather's discussion spans a range of topics surrounding aging, including the cultural pressures and myths associated with aging, the changing seasons of life, and the fear of becoming irrelevant. She also highlights the biblical perspective on aging, offering a refreshingly positive viewpoint on something our culture points to as negative. One significant topic Heather focused on was the symbolism of graying hair and how it has been distorted by cultural messages. Drawing from Proverbs 16:31, Heather shares how marketers convinced us that gray hair would ruin our lives, but how the Bible tells us that gray hair is a crown of glory, representing wisdom and victory. As we dive into the concept of aging gratefully, Heather challenges us to shift our mindset away from cultural norms and expectations and embrace the unique beauty that comes with every season of life. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Paul: Hi Dr. Cabral, Love your show and your ability to stay measured in polarizing times. I know you are evidence based and I'm wondering if you've looked deeper into the blue zones you reference. The book (now Netflix series) is largely anecdotal and cherry picked data and certainly cannot be referenced as scientific fact. The takeaway from the blue zones is lifestyle. Movement, culture, limiting processed foods, etc and that is what needs to be focused on. Interested in your thoughts and thank you!   Elizabeth: Hi, Dr. Cabral! Thank you so much for taking my question! Over the past two to three months, one LARGE pore on my cheek appeared out of nowhere (that seems to not be blocked), one more that has recently appeared under my eye but isn't quite as drastic as the one on my cheek, and now one on my chin. I find it odd that these insanely large pores suddenly appeared with no other larger pores about them. Please help! Over the past month, I recently started using Trentinoin and I'm hoping that it'll help, but it hasn't seemed to make a difference so far. Again, these pores don't seem to be blocked. What might you suggest? I would appreciate any thoughts you may have. Just FYI, I searched your podcasts because I wanted a quicker answer :) but to no avail. :)   Lara: Hi, dr. C! Hope you and your family are well.. I'm wondering about baking.. what are ok ingredients of baking powder? Is it ok to use just baking soda instead (sodium bicarbonate)? All cream of tartar baking powders I found have cornstarch in them.. And also, are silicone moulds ok to use? Or what are best for baking cakes, muffins, etc.. even nonstick if you line it with parchment paper? Thank you for your recommendations, enjoy your week   Cynthia: Hi Doctor Cabral, I've noticed a surge in health influencers advocating for the anti-aging benefits of protein and weightlifting, recommending a minimum of 1.2 to 1.6 grams of animal-based protein per kilogram of body weight. They also encourage resistance training over extensive cardio. However, I'm intrigued by the growing number of anti-aging scientists turning to veganism and reducing their protein intake. This conflicting information has left me puzzled, and I'd appreciate your insights on this matter. Thank you for all your wonderful work. I deeply value your expertise and guidance, and I'm grateful to have you as a trusted resource.   Crystal: Why does the body react to weather, such as changes in weather, rain, snow, humidity/barometric changes day to night?   Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2914 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? It's no longer just the realm of science fiction: It's possible that in our lifetimes, astronauts will go to Mars. NASA is doing a lot of technological preparation for this, but the key to the success of these missions will be the astronauts involved. As Mars space missions will require months or even years on the red planet, the agency wants to better understand how our bodies are affected by time in space.NASA recently launched the Complement of Integrated Protocols for Human Exploration Research, or CIPHER. This is a suite of 14 studies astronauts will undergo on the International Space Station, measuring everything from bone health to brain activity to vision changes.Joining Ira to talk about CIPHER and the hopes for health data collection is Dr. Cherie Oubre, CIPHER project scientist in NASA's human research program based in Houston, Texas.Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
