Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: We discuss the principle that we all endure experiences in our lives that produce wounds, but when God heals those wounds, sacred scars result. Join me with Jessica Van Roekel as we share how to transform the wounds of rejection into sacred scars. We dissect the deep emotional and spiritual impacts of rejection, reveal how these healed wounds can be converted into powerful testimonies, and demonstrate how sharing these stories empowers and uplifts others. Learn to overcome fears, recognize the importance of scripture in healing, and discover God's transformative role in turning past pains into triumphs. This episode is a beacon of hope for anyone grappling with past hurts and seeking God's help on their path to recovery. Quotables from the Episode: They triumphed over him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony Personal histories don't need to define the present or determine the future A scar is a healed wound We have to feel it to heal it God set me free, and then I prayed a dangerous prayer, 'Lord, teach me how to walk in this freedom.' Rejection doesn't have to stop their life. It doesn't have to train wreck their life. But how about this? How about if we go through it so that we have a story of God's faithfulness on the other side of it. Scripture References: Revelation 12:11 – “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;” Psalm 147:3 - He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. "The church who heeds Jesus's wake-up call will experience a renewed intimacy with Jesus in this life and confidence in his presence for the life to come."ABOUT THIS MESSAGE When Jesus surveyed the first-century churches of Asia-Minor, he saw groups of Christians struggling to live out their faith in an increasingly hostile world. Though some Christians clung to the gospel and their faith in him, many others had compromised their faith and were at risk of falling away completely. However, Jesus's letters called them back to their first love, and, for the church in Sardis, to repentance and a renewed commitment to him. In this episode G and I, talk about the 144,000. This 144,000 is important because God will use His chosen nation once again to do a mighty thing on the earth. There will be a huge wave of believers like we've never seen before that come to worship God during this 7 year Tribulation. Join us as we talk about scripture, theology, and God's glory. Scripture References: Revelation 7
In this episode G and I, walk through a moment in heaven when John was called up to heaven and began to write down the scroll and its seals. Up until this moment, no was was worthy to open the scroll, then one of the elders said " weep no more; the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals." As you listen and read you will begin to see all of heaven and earth worship the throne. Scripture References: Revelation 5
In this episode G and I, cover in great detail what John sees while ascending up to heaven. The focus of this chapter is about the throne, and Jesus wanted to make sure John wrote it all down for the world to hear. Join us as we walk through the beauty and mysteriousness of heaven, and "what must take place after this." Scripture References: Revelation 4
In this episode G and I, go through the letter written to the church in Laodicea. Jesus sees this church as lukewarm, as "neither cold nor hot," because they were never in need of anything, so they never needed God. To be a Christian is to constantly lean on God and seek His will, but this church was missing the mark. Join us as we dig into TJ's sermon and the letter written to the church in Laodicea. Scripture References: Revelation 3:14-22
In the episode G and I cover the letter to the church in Philadelphia. Jesus had many great things to say to this church, and this is the second letter that did not include threats or warnings of the removal of their "lamp stand." This church was doing mighty things in the name of Jesus, that includes bearing his name even under the pressure of many false Jewish leaders. G and I talk about crowns, pillars, and God's everlasting promises. Scripture References: Revelation 3:7-13, 2 Samual 7:12-16
In this episode, G and I cover the letter to church in Sardis. This is one of the shortest letters written to the churches, but what Jesus had to say was not so good. Even though the letter starts off rough Jesus sees there is still hope telling them to "Wake up and strengthen what remains...Remember then, what you received and heard." Join us as we breakdown each verse and compare this letter to the modern day church. Scripture References: Revelation 3:1-6
In this episode, G and I walk through the letters written to the church in Smyrna and Pergamum. Both letters are very much different, as the Lord was commending the church in Smyrna but warning the church in Pergamum. Both were persecuted but one church stands to this day, while another perished. Join us as we talk about the historical account of both churches! Scripture References: Revelation 2:8-17, Numbers 22-31
Welcome to The Back Porch podcast. In this week we have guest speaker TJ Helling, who helps G and I speak about week two of Revelation! This week was recorded in Davis, OK at Falls Creek, so this is a very special episode for us. Join us as we talk about "The Big Picture", the meaning of the number 7, the meaning of being a bond servant, and the blessings of God in Revelation. Scripture References: Revelation 1:1-3, Exodus 2:5-6, Matthew 13:11-15

The Identity of the Two Witnesses The Two Witnesses are introduced and explained to be the fulfillments of various Old Testament prophecies as well as the means by which the 144,000 heard the gospel to begin with. Their ministry will end at the halfway point of the Tribulation, but all attempts to silence them before God's timing will fail as totally as the world's attempts to silence us today. The key is to follow their example. Disciple or die. Trust in God to protect you where He wants you to be. And understand that the worst the world can do to you ultimately accomplishes nothing against you. 1. More information is always better than less when coming to conclusions. 2. If you haven't read the first 65 books of the Bible, the 66th isn't going to make a lot of sense to you. 3. The man of God is indestructible until the Lord calls him home. Ep. 84 of the Grace Enough Podcast, Sandy Cullum joins me to talk about cultivating a prayer life through thanksgiving, quiet and Scripture prayers. We also discuss her journey of doubt and darkness and how she has learned God never left her. www.graceenoughpodcast.com Questions Sandy and I Discussed: (4:19) Tell us a little bit about your childhood and how you came to know Jesus. (836) Fast forward to being a young mom living back in Florida. What were your days like and how were you involved in ministry during that time? (15:03) Something I have said time and time again is, "I believe your prayers for me and Sam long before I was a part of your family literally changed my life and continues to do so." Share with our listeners a few tips on cultivating a prayer life. (30:22) You were in the middle of your "dark night of the soul" when Sam and I got married, but what I have heard about the Sandy prior to that season in your life is Jesus was truly your best friend and it was obvious. Share a little about what happened that led to your season of wrestling with all that you believed to be true. (1:03:50) What does your relationship with Jesus look like today? Quotes to Remember: "People have asked me how did you become such a woman of prayer? And I was like, because I couldn't handle life. I couldn't handle life. I was desperate." "I had an advantage then, because we didn't have much money. And even though I have this full library now, I had almost no books, then. I had no internet and having the internet alone makes is this huge resource that's there that you can turn to first. Instead of turning to God first." "I would say that practicing daily Thanksgiving, although people see it as a separate spiritual practice, is a huge part of prayer." "I needed to keep my mind on what I did have, instead of what I didn't have and thought I needed. I needed that practice of writing down in journals every day, things I was thankful for, and being able to see it in front of my eyes. You might think that's not prayer, but if you're keeping any kind of a thanksgiving paper on your wall or a log of some sort, or you have it as a daily practice, that's prayer." "Cultivate quiet. That's what I see as by far the biggest challenge for people today in our culture, social media, all the streaming that's available, our phones constantly going off. Prayer is as much listening and hearing what God is saying to us, as it is what we're saying to God. And if our phone is constantly going off, then we don't have...enough quiet space in our life, to let Him speak to us." "When you pray those kinds of prayers for people, God changes your heart, and you're able to then accept things that may come into your life or their life that you wouldn't have asked for." "If you just get in the habit of reading Scripture out loud, then you'll find yourself more easily moving into the Scripture prayers that God's Spirit is directing you to." "One night when I was coming home from the Bible study, I remember it was raining and I remember I just started almost shouting, 'God, I want them to know you. I want them to know you like I know you. And I was praying for my husband. I was praying for Kyle and his wife, Michelle, and I was praying for Sam and I was praying for his future wife. And when I prayed that prayer, I knew that reality was changing and that my whole family as a result of that prayer was stepping into or through a different door." "I was writing Father, I need you to show me the Scriptures I need now. I feel so lost, so unable to hear you or help my family through my intercession for them. Father, Who can I talk with about this? Who will understand and point me and push me in the right direction? Save me, save us, Lord, save us from ourselves." "Prayers that I prayed back in 2003 and 2004 and 5, in 2006 God was holding in that bowl. You know that bowl of incense, which is the prayers of the saints, to release them later in my life, I wrote as late as March 29, 2006, 'I wonder if I will ever wholeheartedly believe in the God I used to know again? If my thoughts about God will ever again resonate with certainty rather than sound hollow and empty, like a whisper of a long ago dream? Oh, God have mercy on me. And so those prayers that I had prayed for Sam and his wife, I couldn't pray during this time. But God was holding them from the time when I had been able to pray them, and He was working them in your lives, because He's not bound by time and He's at the center of all time and sees it all." "God was so faithfully patient with me...David asked me..., 'Sandy, are you a Christian?' I would think about it, I would answer him, 'I don't know if I'm a Christian, but I know that God hasn't left me' and I couldn't make rational sense of that with Scripture." "I was having a fresh look at the cross from within the lens of Isaiah 53. Not just that our sin that He took upon Himself, but our suffering that He took upon Himself, and that the suffering took upon Himself was largely the result of God's respecting our free will." In this episode of the Held Podcast, I chatted with Gretchen Saffles about thinking and praying through “trying” after loss. We talked through some general struggles and specific scenerios that may confront a woman as she considers when to “try” or whether or not she and her husband should “try” at all after miscarriage. Gretchen shared her own experience thinking through this question, which she is still currently navigating, and helped us think through how to practice discernment about things that aren't clearly outlined in scripture. This episode is saturated with biblical encouragement and practical guidance. I hope it will encourage you as you think and pray through this question for your own family. About Gretchen Saffles: Gretchen Saffles is passionate about encouraging and equipping women to dig into the Word of God and find their identity and purpose in Christ. She is the founder of Well-Watered Women, an online ministry that reaches women worldwide. Through her online ministry she longs to meet women right where they are with the hope of the gospel and to ignite a desire in their hearts to know Jesus more. Gretchen lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Greg, and her two sons, Nolan and Haddon. Questions in this Episode: 1. Would you start off by just telling us a bit about your own experience with miscarriage? 2. I know that you weren’t necessarily “trying” for the baby that Greg lost to miscarriage, what was your experience like thinking and praying through growing your family after loss? 3. How do you know when the “right time” to try again is or if it’s “right” to try again at all? 4. What are some practical things we should do as we consider “trying” or “trying again?” What are some specific questions we should ask ourselves or ask the Lord? 5. Let’s walk through a few scenarios of pregnancy after loss and maybe you can share some wisdom with us for each one… a woman wants to grow her family but is really afraid to lose another baby and doesn’t feel like she’s in a stable place emotionally or “ready” for that a woman doesn’t feel ready to try but her husband is really pushing to become pregnant again a woman is eager to try again because she feels like it will take her pain away/ help her to heal 6. Obviously “trying” and “getting pregnant” are not synonymous. Perhaps a woman listening has decided they won’t really “try” but they’ve stopped preventing, or maybe she and her husband are actively trying but the waiting is starting to get to her, what encouragement would you offer to the woman longing to be pregnant again for whom it is just not happening? Perhaps someone is listening who hasn’t started trying again yet but is fearful of infertility. What would you say to her? Questions for every guest: What’s one way God has used your experience of miscarriage to work in your heart and life? If you could encourage a woman to meditate on or memorize any verse or short set of verses in this season, what would it be and why? Noteworthy Quotes: “We can make our plans, but ultimately it is God who brings life. It is God who is sovereign over every single little detail of our lives.” “A lot of times we can go to our planning stages without first praying, without first coming to God in humble submission to him asking him to fulfill in us the desires that he has, to give us his desires that are according to his kingdom and his will. So first, prayer.” “Seek wisdom. What is going on in our lives right now? How is our marriage? What has God called us to do?” “What’s really beautiful is the accounts in scripture that we have. Think about the story of Sarah who longed for a child, and yet we know that she was so past childbearing, and we see God’s greater plan in that child, to bring the coming Messiah, to show the people that our God is greater, that he can work beyond any human means. So, we look back to scripture and we see these examples that God gave us to trust him with his timing. And you think of Hannah too… God heard her cry, and it says “in God’s appointed time.” And we also see in God’s appointed time that he sent his Son. So we trust God with his timing. We surrender and submit to him who has always been faithful to his people.” “Our God is a God of trust and a God of peace. After losing a baby I quickly realized how easy it is for a spirit of fear to take over and for the “what if” questions to start going on repeat… You can bring those fears before God.” “God, in the form of Jesus, he suffered on the cross. He knows what it’s like to suffer.” “Seek counsel. Seek out a christian counselor or your pastor or wisdom from an older woman at church. Seek wise counsel. Don’t try to heal and to go through this all on your own. That’s why we have the body of Christ, the church, to receive comfort and counsel from...seek counsel for that spiritual and emotional healing.” “Come to God. I’m saying this over and over again because a lot of times this is not our first response, to go to the Lord in suffering, in confusion, in trial. We go to other people, we go to google. we go to books, to doctors… and there’s wisdom in seeking out that counsel, but first, press into the Lord.” “Anything that I look to for hope and healing in this life other than Christ is ultimately going to be short. It won’t fulfill that desire. That pain can only be healed at the cross.” “When we think that God should remove the pain, we can also go back to Christ who submitted to God in that pain, and God brought ultimate healing and redemption through that.” “I think one of the deepest most important theologies that we should seek to learn and develop as a Christian is a theology of Suffering. God has never said that as a Christian you will never suffer. Never has he said that. And somehow we believe that. But we see in scripture that suffering draws us into a deeper relationship with Christ.” “We have to know who God is. We have to remember that hope we have in Christ. And that we have a helper in the Holy Spirit.” “Psalm 27:14 is so important for us to remember in seasons of waiting because it tells us how to wait, and what we wait for. It says, ‘Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Wait for the Lord.’ And in this we see this active waiting. It’s not just saying, oh, go sit and don’t do anything. [It’s] this active waiting and pressing in and seeking the Lord, taking courage and confidence that his word is true.” “His word is our hope, it is our promise and our peace, and we wait for him. It’s so easy to get that backwards and think “I’m just waiting for a baby, I’m just waiting for this pregnancy, and then everything will be okay.” We have to be able to recognize those thoughts and bring them captive and fuel those thoughts with the truth of God’s word.” (ending at 29:45) “Don’t allow this season of waiting to steal the joy that you could have in your marriage. The opportunity to love your husband and to glorify God right where you are by serving others, by seeking him in the Word. What consumes your mind is what’s going to drive your feelings and drive your actions, and so be consumed with Christ. Be consumed with his love. Be consumed with awe of who God is in the world and in creations. Let that be the guide that propels you in this season of waiting.” “One way [God has used miscarriage in my life] is to show me that he is still good when life is hard. He is still good when the floor beneath my feet seems to start quaking or my plans start crumbling, that he is still a firm foundation I can cling to and I can find shelter and hope in.” Scripture References: Revelation 21 Proverbs 19:21 Romans 8:14-15 2 Timothy 4:7 Luke 22:42 Psalm 27:14 Psalm 13 Resources Mentioned: The Reason for God by Tim Keller Intro/ Outro Music: My Soul Will Wait (Psalm 62) [feat. This week we continue our new series of videos in our Conversations with Dan. We are going to get down to the main point of a book and explore what in that book can clue us in to finding that main point. This week, we are going to dive into the book of Revelation. We encourage you to continue sending in any questions you may have related to our weekly topics or any you would like us to cover in the future. Especially in this book, we can't cover everything in roughly 15 minutes, but hopefully, this main point will help you understand some of the other details. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: We’ve been in the middle of a special series of podcasts about defeating anxiety during times of crisis. In this episode we talk in-depth about one of the weapons God gives us to defeat anxiety: Power. There are many ways for Christ followers to appropriate God’s power. Romans 8:11 tells us, “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” We have been given the same power that raised Christ Jesus from the dead, yet too many believers are walking around powerless, not appropriating His power. In this episode we discuss the many ways that we can access God’s power to defeat worry, fear, and anxiety in our lives. Quotables from the episode: The first of three key weapons that God has given us to defeat anxiety is His power. Too many Christ followers don’t appropriate the power that God has made available to them. Scripture References: Revelation 12:10 “…now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ, for the accuser…has been thrown down. Romans 8:11 “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” Recommended Resources: Free Download: How To Fight Fearful/Anxious Thoughts and Win Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Social Media Links for Host: For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: Order Book Breaking Anxiety’s Grip / Order Book Hope Prevails / Website / Blog / Facebook / Twitter (@DrMBengtson) / LinkedIn / Instagram / Pinterest / YouTube / Podcast Hosted By: Dr. Michelle Bengtson Audio Technical Support: Bryce Bengtson
Becoming New Wineskins Cindy Stewart Podcast March 29, 2020 The Lord is calling His people, His Church, to a new season of ascending. He wants us to focus completely on Him. When we step into something new, new things are required of us. Mark 2:22 (TPT) says, “And who would pour fresh, new wine into an old wineskin? Eventually, the wine will ferment and make the wineskin burst, losing everything—the wine will be spilled and the wineskin ruined. Instead, new wine is always poured into new wineskins.” In this message, my good friend and colleague, Pastor Gene Cate and I share how we believe the Lord is calling for His Church to wake up and ascend. The Lord is: Changing the wineskin Calling us away from the old form Developing our hearing to His voice Speaking through His prophets Changes are coming that will require more flexibility, mobility, direction, and revelation. It is imperative that we are really paying attention to prophetic words, visions, and dreams. We must choose not to return to normal. That season is over. God is doing a new thing! What an amazing opportunity to build up one another in Christ in this new season. Love is an abused concept. It is difficult for us to understand it or know when it is authentic. In scripture God compares Himself to a Faithful and True Husband. Do you have faith issues, trust issues, love issues...or issues in general? Then you'll want to tune in and listen to this broadcast about the love God manifests in our lives as God our Husband. Scripture References: Revelation 19:11-16, 2 Peter 1:16, Ephesians 3:14-21 Prayer Points: Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. The Apostle Paul has 5 prayer points for the Church: Our spirit would be strengthened with the power of the Holy Spirit. Our faith would enable Christ to dwell in our hearts (a faithless person has a Christ-less heart). Rooted and grounded in love. Able to understand the weight, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge. Through understanding this love, we are filled up with the fullness of God.
