Is misinformation truly an "infodemic," like a virus infecting our brains? Is the militaristic approach missing the mark? We explore how misinformation is policed online, the rise of fact-checkers, and some of the biggest misinformation scandals, including the opioid epidemic and the tobacco industry's attempts to define "sound science" while squelching the truth about second-hand smoke as a carcinogen.Could our obsession with debunking and banning misinformation be a costly, unwinnable war? If we cannot agree on a definition of "misinformation," is this a wise public health battle to pursue, especially given the historical shortage of funding and staff? What roles should fact-checkers, tech companies, and governments play in policing knowledge, particularly in America, a country that deeply values personal liberties? Dr. Eeks also shares personal anecdotes, including her perspective on religious information and how nuns served as her fact-checkers growing up.We also highlight the blurred lines between truth and deception in health and geopolitics. From covert anti-vaccine propaganda campaigns to the false statistics that fueled the opioid crisis, we ask: Can any one entity be trusted to define what's true? Additionally, we will review expert insights from a previous podcast guest to better understand what's truly at stake in this ongoing battle.Subscribe and tune in for a deep dive into how misinformation has become a defining issue of our time and what it means for the future of public health and freedom of thought.*Disclaimer: This podcast consists entirely of my own thoughts and does not reflect the views of anyone or any organization I work with or consult for.*New* SUBSCRIBE for ALL Bonus Episodes! You can contact Dr. Eeks at bloomingwellness.com.Follow Eeks on Instagram here.Or Facebook here.Or X.On Youtube.Or TikTok.SUBSCRIBE to her monthly newsletter here.

And what does it have to do with creative practice? In this episode of Emerging Form, Christie Aschwanden talks about her new short-run podcast, Uncertain, hosted by Scientific American. We discuss the genesis of the project, the importance of finding people who are also passionate about your project, being receptive to opportunities, how we can be smart about creating congruent projects, how trying new media can spark our creative practice, and the importance of encouragement.Uncertain from Scientific American https://scientificamerican.com/uncertainChristie's FiveThirtyEight story “There's No Such Thing as ‘Sound Science'” This is a public episode. Help us get better by taking our quick survey! Your feedback will help us understand how we can improve in the future. Thank you for your time. Here's a question for you dear listener. What's the link between music and physics? What is the sound of physics? Today we're diving into a fascinating world where art, science, and music intersect. Joining us in our studio are two incredible individuals who have embarked on a journey that brings together the realms of sound, physics, and human emotion. Ain Bailey is a composer and the second Cavendish Arts Science Fellow. Cavendish Arts Science creates collective encounters between art and science that explore the world, our humanity and our place in the world. Ain's practice explores sonic autobiographies and the constellation of sounds that form individual and community identities. Her compositions are often inspired by reflections on silence and absence, feminist activism and architectural acoustics. Dr Gemma Bale is an assistant professor of Medical Therapeutics at the University of Cambridge, and the head of the Neuro Optics Lab. Sitting at the junction of engineering and physics, her team develops new, non-invasive optical devices to monitor brain metabolism in areas which traditional brain monitoring can't. Lately, she's been exploring the relationship between music and dementia, and it was only a matter of time before she and Ain's worlds collided, and a conversation sparked. With Ain and Gemma, we talk about music of course, and how our brains react to it, exploring the unknown and bridging the gap between art and science. “We have this this sort of human exceptionalism or human supremacy that that is used as the kind of baseline foundational justification for exploiting animals, that humans are just more important and we're more special in some way.” – Dr. Syd Johnson Dr. Hope Ferdowsian and Dr. Syd Johnson recently published an essay in the Hastings Center Bioethics Forum called, Primates and Medical Research A Matter of Convenience, Not Sound Science. I read the essay and quickly realized how much there was that I didn't know about animal testing and research (and I thought I knew a lot). The essay begins with one rhesus macaque who will spend her life in a cage as part of an Alzheimer's disease experiment. They tell the story not only of this individual primate, but of animal research as whole, how and when it started all the way up to where we are now, and also what an enormous failure most of it has been. Around 90 percent of drugs that pass in animal testing fail on humans. With numbers like that, in any other industry I'm pretty sure that we'd have given up by now. Not only is animal testing insanely cruel, but it's incredibly ineffective. So, why are we still testing on tens of millions of animals and spending billions of dollars on mostly bad research year after year? Money and because we've “always done it this way,” (and we have, since 6 BCE). All systems that exploit, torture and abuse animals desperately need to change and the thing is, all of these systems can change. We have solutions. They exist and are getting bigger and better by the day. There are solutions to replace animals in the food system, in fashion, in entertainment and in medical research. But the money train that goes into using animals in research isn't slowing down, and not enough of us are demanding otherwise (and we are who is paying for it). I think in part, because not enough of us are aware of the cruelty and the inefficiency that is animal testing. We are paying the bill simply because this is how it's always been done. But it's not how it should be done.

Sound Agriculture: https://www.sound.ag/ Support this show: www.Patreon.com/agriculture Today, I'm excited to bring you an interview with a very interesting company in agtech, and a unique one in many ways. Adam Litle is the CEO of Sound Agriculture. Which is in the “sound science” sense of the word not the audio sense of the word. They have some really interesting scientific approaches to, on one hand, activating beneficial microbes to provide more nutrition to crops. And on the other hand to perform what they call on-demand breeding, which doesn't actually change the genetics of the crop but blocks expression of certain genes by soaking the seed in a specific protein. Each of these individually is a pretty exciting innovation in agriculture, but I wanted to know where do they intersect? In other words, why is this one business instead of two? We get into that as well as some of the challenges of bringing innovations like this to the market, and much more on today's episode. As CEO, Adam leads the company's strategy and overall company execution. He joined Sound to help serve both producers and consumers with more sustainable, differentiated crops. Prior to Sound, Adam was on the founding team and served as Chief Revenue Officer of Granular, the leading farm management software company acquired by Corteva in 2017.

This time, on my podcast Episode #71(no longer on the podcast, available only here), I continued on the topic of vibrational wellness. Are we listening in on wellness or illness? Yes, LISTENING! In my constant quest for more information I felt a gap in my understanding of the science of mindfulness, what does it really do and how does it effect the brain. Searching online I found this awesome book called the neuroscience of mindfulness. Bingo! This was it, exactly what I was looking for. It turns out that the author, Dr Stan Rodski, is a fellow Melburnian. After buying the audio and hard copy versions i decided to get in touch with Dr Rodski to see if he would be willing to be a guest on the podcast and I was delighted that he agreed. Dr Rodski is a cognitive neuroscientist and in addition to writing the neuroscience of mindfulness he only invented mindful colouring books (Colourtation) and more recently Soundscience plus. Both Colourtation colouring books and soundscience can be found on the website colourtation.com and Dr Rodski recommends combining both for an amazinginly immersive creative meditative experience.

Ben and Peter discuss Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVPs), where ghosts and spirits are said to leave noises and voices on audio devices. We are joined by paranormal investigator and EVP expert Tony Hayes to discuss the phenomena's history, pitfalls, and how to spot the real deal from the bad cover versions. Tony also shares some of the spooky recordings he has captured over the years. https://bit.ly/EVPPhotoAlbum https://www.paranormalinvestigationuk.com https://bit.ly/DrillHallVideo https://www.facebook.com/TQMPodcast https://twitter.com/TQMPodcast
For years Mandara Cromwell has been on an incredible journey marrying science and spirit. She grew up in the farmlands of Kansas in a devout catholic family. Her divine quest began as a child with mystical experiences of angels and saints, the sounds of Latin masses, pipe organs and choirs in the Gothic architecture of a Catholic Church. Studies of art and philosophy led Mandara to follow a spiritual path to India, where she learned about sacred sound. Later after much investigation, she discovered that science confirmed her spiritual experiences. One of the most profound spiritual experiences came to her from science in the form of sound made visible. This experience led her on an intense quest to create a new paradigm for healing through sound therapy. (Doctorate of Cymatic Medicine), an American woman entrepreneur and inventor, who is the CEO and President of Cyma Technologies. Her company also manufactures her inventions – the AMI Acoustic Meridian Intelligence devices. The AMI 750, an advanced sound technology device, was nominated for the Thomas Edison Award for Innovation in the Fields of Science and Medicine in 2013. In 2002, she coined the term "Cymatherapy" to refer to wave therapy based on the work of Dr. Peter Guy Manners, with whom she studied extensively. She continues to promote sound as a healing modality throughout the world. As a way of forwarding the field of vibrational medicine (specifically sound therapy), Ms. Cromwell founded (ISTA) the International Sound Therapy Association. Since 2006, the organization has been producing conferences to bring new voices together in the field of "sound science." ISTA and Cyma Technologies offer ongoing classes, training, and programs in numerous cities throughout the US. In 2017, Mandara produced the Atlanta conference "Cymatics: The Art and Science of Making Sound Visible." This event featured never before seen sound-made-visible images of the healing frequencies found in her own sound therapy devices. She acted as co-producer on two short films created at the University of Florida utilizing cymatic images: "dance divine" featuring dance, yoga, and sound images. She also co-produced "Full of Stars," a short film showing three-dimensional views of the healing frequencies. In 2019, she released her first book, "Soundflower: The Journey to Marry Science and Spirit," which includes many stunning cyma glyph illustrations.
