DJ Lord Sinixta sat down with Fredro Star and Sticky Fingaz for this all new episode
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Remus the dog, a beloved pet of fourteen years, although it was recorded while he was still with us. Jack and Yair convene for a loose chat concerning new Labour MP Keir Mather and other millennial politicians, dangerous dogs and the work of Sticky Fingaz, Kanye's antisemitism era and subsequent going-to-ground, and - four years on - the moral panic surrounding the film Joker, and the character's prior portrayal by Jared Leto. PLUS: The Finnish PM's resignation to actually get shit done at the Tony Blair Institute For Global Change, and the American right's continued insistence that Obama is secretly gay. Our most ridiculous bit returns! With Sean away on assignment, Ant and Ryan return to BLADE: The Series, to try and remember wtf is going on with all of our friends in Detroit. Why? Well because BLADE was played by Sticky Fingaz from Onyx in the ill-fated SPIKE TV Series. Try and keep up.
B. Cox reviews Onyx's classic debut album Bacdafucup as it turns 30. After linking up with the late Jam Master Jay of Run DMC fame, the Queens group signed to his label JMJ Records. Under his watchful eye and tutelage, they recorded their debut album. The then-quartet made up of Fredro Starr, the late Big DS, Sonsee (aka Sonny Seeza or Suave) and Sticky Fingaz sought to bring their style of rugged hardcore hip-hop to the forefront. Punctuated by a high energy, rambunctious and in your face style with aesthetics marked by their trademark street look: hoodies, fatigues, Timberland boots and bald heads, they ushered in a musical and fashion style that gave them their unique selling proposition.Produced mostly by Queens producer Chyskillz and his converted jazz notes to rugged out to meet the group's style, the album featured two hit singles: the hardcore anthem "Throw Your Guns" and the crossover classic "Slam" an high energy anthem that reached No. 4 on the Billboard 100 and has become a staple in popular culture, advertisements and campaigns in the 30 years since its release. The album was certified platinum and is recognized as one of the best albums of 1993 and an album that is known for popularizing a particular style of rapping and performing as well as rugged street fashion.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesAlbumism: Onyx's Debut Album 'Bacdafucup' turns 30 https://albumism.com/features/onyx-debut-album-bacdafucup-album-anniversaryEverythingIsNoise: A Scene In Retrospect: Onyx - Bacdafucuphttps://everythingisnoise.net/features/a-scene-in-retrospect-onyx-bacdafucup/Rock The Bells: Bacdafucup: Onyx, Jam Master Jay and the Bald Head Invasionhttps://rockthebells.com/articles/onyx-jam-master-jay-and-the-bald-head-invasion/HipHopDX: Onyx Announce 'Bacdafucup' 30th Anniversary Tour with R.A. On this very blood-sucking episode of One and Done TV, Ian and John get familiar with the 2006 Spike TV vampire drama Blade: The Series starring Sticky Fingaz and Jill Wagner! Blade (Fingaz) is a half human/half vampire who happens to be a vampire hunter - drama ensues and blood is shed as Blade helps Krista (Wagner) avenge her brother's mysterious death. Ian admires James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in The Man Who Wasn't There. John calls Martin McDonagh's comedy The Banshees of Inisherin blisteringly sad. Just in time for the holidays, Ian and John explore a catalog of Hallmark Christmas movies, as well as dive into the hard scientific facts of vampirology and check in on America's sweetheart Randy Quaid! Since his childhood in the 1970's, Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones manifested his destiny with his determination and undeniable hustling skills. He went from an aspiring teenage MC listening to Run DMC to being signed by the late-great Jam Master Jay. He learned how to fake-it-till-you-make-it by grabbing a pair of hair clippers and becoming one of the most sought-after barbers in Brooklyn. Nothing got in his way, even if it meant running over some of his favorite MC's on his journey to the top. You've seen 2004's Flight Of The Phoenix before -- not just the Jimmy Stewart verzh from the '60s, but every "ragtag group with various animosities bands together to beat insurmountable odds, with an assist from ILM CGI" flick before it. As NOT the best pilot we ever saw, Dennis Quaid's Frank Towns throws John Wayne, Barth from You Can't Do That On Television, and a crappish Bill Clinton imitation into a blender to assay a backstory-free brat to whom everyone from Dr. House to EMT Riley to Eowyn is looking for salvation. How long have they been out in the Gobi? How much water is left? Why are Chekhov's nomads wearing Converse? And why did the same single rock in the entire desert that killed Sam Winchester then save Dennis Quaid? A lot of questions, a lot of callbacks to Enemy Mine in the season finale of Quaid In Full. Phil & Jake rank the fictional vampire-hunter Blade, the first (and best) installment of The Matrix film franchise, and bricks on the List of Every Damn Thing.VOTE HERE to help choose which item on the List of Every Damn Thing should be re-ranked in an upcoming episode (you can vote once a day).If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: We of course talk a lot about the Blade movies and Wesley Snipes. When reviewing Snipes' early work, we only mention Major League briefly and don't even talk about how he didn't come back for the sequel. We also mention Passenger 57 and Demolition Man. Sticky Fingaz from Onyx was the star of the short-lived Blade TV series. We talk about the history of horror themes in comics. We don't really get into EC Comics, Seduction of the Innocent by Fredric Wertham, or the U.S. Congressional inquiry and Comics Code Authority that followed, but we could talk for days about that if you let us. Here's the cover of Tomb of Dracula #10, featuring the first appearance of Blade. Marvel Comics characters discussed in this episode include Morbius (The Living Vampire), Werewolf by Night, the X-Men (especially Gambit), Ghost Rider, the Avengers and of course Dracula. We bring up John Woo, the Hong Kong-based action director. He's best known in the US for Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II. His HK work was very influential also. Yuen Woo-Ping is a director and choreographer based in Hong Kong who's also done a lot of work in American movies (The Matrix and Kill Bill for example). We talk about non-Marvel Cinematic Universe movies such as the 1989 Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie, Howard the Duck, X-Men and Ghost Rider. We do get into the MCU a little bit, with the upcoming Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali. We talk about a whole lot of other action movies, including Mortal Kombat (1995), John Wick, Speed Racer, Police Story, Drunken Master II and Die Hard. Daybreakers starring Ethan Hawke is a very smart (but also very dumb) movie that's a lot more fun than it needs to be. It's about a world where almost everyone's already been bitten by vampires and blood is getting scarce. We guess it's about oil? The recently-cancelled, long-running show The Venture Brothers' character of Jefferson Twilight is a Blade parody who specializes in killing vampires of African descent. Blacula is a 1972 film that Phil saw on broadcast TV as a child, but it fell out of rotation. Phil mentions, but forgets the title of, Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again. Here's the scene where he transforms. In pop-singer Bebe Rexha's video for "Sacrifice" she restages a couple sequences from Blade. The song has a real early 90s club sound to it, that's what the kids want these days. In the episode, Phil says you don't see a lot of references to Popeye in pop culture. We forgot about Ludacris' legitimately terrifying video for "Get Back". Laurence Fishburne is Phil's wife's favorite actor. When he shows up she always hopes it means everything up to that point in the movie was inside the Matrix. It's almost never true though. The Three Little Pigs should have a back-to-basics reboot. Kids only know the deconstructed versions now. There are deconstructed, ironic takes on the story going back to the 1930s! We just want a straight-up fable about planning ahead. We mention the Reginald Denny incident, which Ice Cube references in the song in “Natural Born Killaz”. Brickbats are bricks used as weapons. Here's an illustration of a member of the Dead Rabbits with a brickbat. Krazy Kat (AKA Krazy & Ignatz) is a comic-strip in which one character loves to throw a brick at the other. Brick chicken is chicken that you cook by putting a brick on it. You can use a similar method to make a panini as well. Usually people wrap it in foil but Phil doesn't. He's a wild man. Brick ovens are excellent for making naan bread or pizzas because they can get to very high temperatures. Note on the term “brick shithouse”: This is used with men as well as women. Phil remembers reading a description of Lebron James that said he was built like a brick shithouse. The song "Brick House" by the Commodores was written by Shirley Hanna-King, while her husband slept! Here's some discussion of why "Brick House" as a slang term never really took off. We think the main problem is the shit connection. Few people when they're talking about someone attractive want to also make a reference to an outhouse. Here's a pic of the “earthquake bricks” that Jake talks about. And why is Ben going to be given away to an ostrich farm? Answers to these will be forthcoming, along with countless other facts and stupid jokes from the mouths of Ben Baker and Phil Catterall. Plus: the incorrect Scooby Doo, becoming unretired, some Willis, too many Air Bud films, Sticky Fingaz vs Ben Fogle, Phil is bad at metal, an evil clown, Vanilla Ice and another reference to Boyz Unlimited. I want to thank my brother and the Bronx's own Beenofficial for coming on my show "Sports and Hip-Hop with DJ Mad Max last night on WSJU Radio at St. John's University. He talked about writing his first rap song as well as his favorite artist who inspired him and that is Kool G Rap. He gave his view on Hip-Hop today and believes that lyrical rap will make a comeback, which I believe as well because everything happens in cycles. He has a lot of bangers out on all music platforms that he has recently released including: Downpour, Forever NewSchool, Ay Now, No Shorts, and UKTV. Some of his raps remind me of Onyx member Sticky Fingaz. He also spit a fire freestyle over Rick Ross' Crocodile Python! If you are a true Hip-Hop head who appreciates the lyrics, I highly recommend you check Beenofficial out because he represents the real Hip-Hop! Keep grinding my bro, I believe big things will happen for you! Follow Beenofficial on Instagram: @beenofficialbx and Twitter: @iambeenofficial. Follow me on Instagram and Twitter: @thereelmax. In the fourth episode of WASH THIS!, Scoop, Roddy, & Ovid The Poet discussed a recent controversy about Cardi B and the alleged robberies she said she committed during her "stripper days". They also touched on the lost art of freestyling and the different definitions of what constitutes a freestyle rap. The continued beef saga of Kodak Black vs Sticky Fingaz reached new levels with Sticky releasing a diss record. In a new segment, "Unmumbling Raps", Ovid The Poet dove deep into the lyricism of Future and gave his bid on why he should be considered a lyricist even though many people seem to consider him as "just a mumble rapper". Roddy prepared a dish for the audience members and was noticeably drunker this week than on previous episodes. Good vibes and debates that turned into arguments make this a classic episode. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/washthis/support
In the third episode of WASH THIS!, Scoop, Roddy, & Ovid The Poet added some more flavor to the mix (literally) as the guests that were invited to witness the episode live were treated to dinner provided by Sol Sazon, a local restaurant owned by Ovid The Poet's family. Of course everything was WASHED down with Henny & Ginger Ale so even the serious topics came off as hilarious. The guys talked about Kodak Black and how he's unsuccessfully courting rapper Young M.A. and supposedly punched rapper Sticky Fingaz due to his "old head energy". They also gave DMX much respect and talked about how they were first introduced to his music. Other topics ranged from Sauce Money's interview with DJ Vlad, to the sound a certain gun makes in Goldeneye 007 on N64. This is probably a classic episode, but it's hard to tell since there's only 2 others. ENJOY! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/washthis/support

Bishop Brigante is a veteran of Canadian hip-hop and legend in the battle rap world. Throughout his career, he's collaborated with the likes of Drake, Nate Dogg, MC Lyte, and Sticky Fingaz, and his new anthology collection Legacy revisits those singles and more from his nearly 15-year career. He joins us to chat about this latest compilation, his work with Canada's top battle league, King of the Dot, the current state of Canadian hip-hop - and reveals the title of his upcoming new LP for the first time! After taking the Toronto club scene by storm on the back of their debut EP in 2015, indie electronic duo Honey Beard are back with an LP that combines the dark, synth-based Brit pop of the early 80s with the modern stylings of acts like MGMT. We chat with the band about the evolution of their sound, where they fit into the Canadian music landscape, and more. Finally, Music BC has introduced a new initiative called Phoenix, an extensive training and professional development program to help music industry pros navigate the ever-changing landscape of the business. The program is for time-poor, mid-career music professionals looking to optimize their business models for growth, and we speak with Music BC Executive Director Alex Grigg about how it's come together.

Rent Strike - Groove Collective Ego Trippin - Nikki Giovanni The Revolution Will Not Be Televised - Dana Bryant "Buttamilk – It all started with you." – Jill Scott (from the liner notes of her debut LP Who Is Jill Scott?) Essentially, buttamilk is a concept that started in Philadelphia around 1994 with three fellows named Gene, Kenny, and Marv. They all met working as interns at the classic soul station, WDAS, in Philadelphia. Realizing that we all had a great time together and all had a love for music, especially music that was just under the commercial radio radar, we decided to band together and throw some parties. Kenny would host, Gene would get on the mic, and Marv spun the tunes. Our first event was a house party for Kenny's birthday. We thought that it would be cool and a twist to invite some singers to sing over instrumentals as people moved and grooved...just a slight departure from the "throw your hands in the air like you just don't care," chants, you know? Simplistic and hardly groundbreaking, but to the audience we played to, it was a thrill. People thought they were hearing new versions of tracks because they couldn't see the artists. Sometime after that party, we brainstormed on how to present what we did at that jam, but shed more light, literally, on the artists performing. We wanted to put together a show that would showcase music, singing, and spoken word to working class Philadelphians whose taste were fairly mainstream. We wanted to bring a high level of entertainment with style and intellect to everyday people. But, we needed a name... Buttamilk Two records that Marv always played were Audio Two's "Top Billin" and A Tribe Called Quest "Butter." The Audio Two track had a line "Milk is chillin, what more can I do Top Billin," and the Tribe track featured Phife's hook, "It's like butta...not no parkay, not no margarine, strictly butta." On top of that connection, being the cognitive fellows that we were, we made the correlation: Butter is what you spread to add flavor and stimulate taste, Milk is what you drink for the nourishment you need to grow…Buttamilk! The First Show WDAS, the station where we all worked, has an annual street festival called Unity Day. This event is huge, averaging ½ million people every summer for years. If you wanted to see your R&B/Soul idols like James Brown or the Isley Brothers or Chaka Kahn, Unity Day was it. But beyond the main stage, there were several pavilions and stages. There was a literary pavilion that was perfect for our aims. Throughout the day, the station planned to have writers and poets sign their books and meet and greet. We thought it be a good idea to have some people perform while Marv played his eclectic instrumentals and the station agreed. (Now here’s a flashback to a couple months prior to the big day). Kenny and I went to a friend of his backyard barbeque. Mixing and mingling, we came upon a woman named Jill. We talked about what we were up to and our aspirations and we saw that she seemed really interested. Somehow things segued into an on the spot audition as Jill effortlessly scatted jazz style, the lyrics to Onyx’s “Throw Your Guns In The Air.” Sticky Fingaz’s verse to be exact. We couldn’t believe her voice, her ease, and the way she transformed a rough and tough Hip Hop tune into jazz. If she was down with us, we were down with her performing at our inaugural event several weeks later at the WDAS Unity Day celebration. Unity Day with Jill Scott was where Buttamilk spread its wings into four years of parties and events that would showcase the likes of the Roots, JazzyFatNastees, Ursula Rucker, Wadud, Stephanie Renee, Rich Medina, Sarah Jones, novelist Omar Tyree, James Poyser, Jafar Barron, Dick Gregory, Sonia Sanchez, King Britt, and Nelson George. **TO LISTEN OR DOWNLOAD SEE THE END OF THE SHOW DESCRIPTION!** On this masters of hardcore event we have: Bun B joins us for a feature-length interview to discuss his career as a lecturer of Humanities, Hip Hop and Religion. Far from the crack tales and street rap braggadocio that his artistic persona may suggest, this interview takes the listener on a deep journey into the reasons why Bun B devotes his daily life to teaching, including the conflict between his professional life as a rapper and his aspirations as educator. We also discuss his new album set for release later this year, including confirmed collaborations with DJ Premier and the interesting news that he is set to work once more with Jay Z. As refreshing as a spring breeze, taste a true veteran of the craft. Onyx are back and Onyx are mad. Sticky Fingaz bounces onto the show to deliver an in-depth and passionate interview regarding the groups new album "Cuzzo" set for release soon. As hardcore as you'd expect, Sticky Fingaz talks politics and conspiracy theories, citing their new video for the track "2012" as a sign of Onyx's attack on the political ideals of America, as well as drawing comparisons between the rap industry and the power structure of society. We also reflect upon the classic work of Onyx, discussing the creation of one of hip hop's hardest albums "Bacdafucup". Essential, edgy listening. Hieroglyphics are one of hip hop's most accessible and loved creative collectives. It was our pleasure to welcome onto the show Tajai, A Plus and Casual for a round table of discussion, spanning new releases from all Hiero members to deep conspiracy theory discussion, with Casual offering his detailed knowledge of chem trails and mind control techniques. We conclude with a candid freestyle cipher that has to be heard to be believed and round up what inevitably turned out to be one of Hieroglyphics best moments on our show. Blue Sky Black Death are one of hip hop's most ethereal and creative productive partnerships. They join us on this show to discuss their new album 'NOIR' which is set for release on April 26th. As well as allowing their fans the opportunity to meet the men behind the magic, BSBD also discuss future movie scoring, production work with Vinnie Paz, Jean Grae and the countless other artists that they would like to collaborate with. They also come bearing gifts and give away copies of their new album to some of our lucky live listeners. Has-Lo makes timeless, mood evoking music that has no parallels in terms of its sonic tragedy and somber vocal explorations. It was our gift to meet the mood maker himself and allow him to share with us the real meaning behind his life as a hip hop artist, including a breakdown of his superb latest album 'If I Don't Make It'. Admired by producers and hip hop fans worldwide, Has-Lo is as every bit as reflective and honest as his music suggests, making for a must hear interview. UK statue Cyrus Malachi steps proudly onto the show to talk about his latest album 'Ancient Future' and his relationship with the UK mainstream media, citing a distinct lack of support from the ever less powerful British radio outlets such as the BBC.
