After a three-week break, it's finally RACE WEEK. The Singapore Grand Prix returns to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix after a three year hiatus. Since three is the number in play, will this prove to be a lucky hunting ground for driver who races car #3 (Daniel Ricciardo, of course)? Of course, there's a greater chance that driver who raced car #33 (Max Verstappen, remember?) till last year is the downright favourite. But let's look back before we look forward? Red Bull Racing haven't scored a single podium at Monza in the hybrid-turbo era. But we expect that to change this Sunday. Yes, it is tough to imagine someone other than Max Verstappen winning the 2022 Italian Grand Prix...in front of the tifosi. As for Ferrari, let's hope the dash of yellow in their special livery brings better performance & results. Mercedes has scored more points (average) than Ferrari since the 2022 Australian GP (basically, since race #3). And above all else, what gap will Max Verstappen have to the rest of the field in Qualifying & on Race Day? Remember, he demolished the other 19 drivers in low downforce-spec machinery at Spa; and Monza's downforce requirements are the lowest for any circuit on the calendar. Tune in! They decode the strategies that were at play, strategies that maybe were missed & explain why Verstappen would've won either way. Did Yuki Tsunoda-AlphaTauri conspire to help Red Bull-Verstappen win? There are lots of conspiracy theories doing the rounds on social media. But what's being celebrated a little less is Fernando Alonso's race from 13th to 6th! And btw, Ferrari found another way to botch a race. We're sure you already know! Should Verstappen win, it'll be a career-first of four wins in a row (no, we're not jinxing it!). And of course, @f1statsguru's stats preview has more mind-boggling stats to look forward to including a story on why the Tarzanbocht is called that. After running 60+ Spartan and obstacle course races over the last decade, our guest this week on the podcast gives you some advice on getting through obstacles in races and beyond! After a quick look back at my one and only Spartan race, (5:35) Steve Slater talks about how a Tough Mudder launched his obstacles course racing, which he calls a great equalizer. (12:35) He has specific advice for training to get a stronger grip and core. Steve breaks down what his typical weeks of training are like, from gym work to running with sand bags to burpees. (20:01) As the Bible says, suffering produces perseverance which produces character. That's Steve's running mantra, which he got from a church sermon. The racing also helped him teach a lesson to his 2 sons about mentally pushing. What's his longest time spent on an obstacle course race? And he's done some with 30+ miles of running or 100+ obstacles! (26:17) Why does he keep putting his body through the grueling competitions? His favorite part is making it a family affair. (35:48) At almost 55 years old now, how does he stay mostly injury free? Steve gives us some keys that have to do with rest and what you eat. He's still highly competitive, no matter the age. (41:01) He picks his favorite and least favorite obstacles on a course. And Steve says get in the arena, because it's easy to be brave from a safe distance! Down the road, he's got a goal at the Grand Canyon. (51:25) I close this episode with some final segments: obstacle wisdom from the Bible, me singing the appropriate "Warriors," and a closing prayer.
