The big summer tournaments come to a close on Sunday, and so did a grueling process regarding the broadcast rights for Ligue 1.On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon to discuss the latest developments regarding the Ligue 1 broadcast rights, what Paris Saint-Germain should do regarding Xavi Simons, and we answer questions from listeners.Up first, it's all about the deal that was struck regarding domestic TV rights for Ligue 1. According to reports, beIN Sports and DAZN will pay €500 million to broadcast matches in France for at least the next two seasons. We discuss what this means for Ligue 1 clubs, the league as a whole, and whether PSG would ever leave the top flight to join the rumored European Super League. With the domestic deal finally closing, we turn our focus to international rights. How will fans abroad watch PSG this season? With a month to go until the Ligue 1 season kicks off, we discuss potential broadcasters, including Apple TV, DAZN, Netflix, and Max. Which platform would give PSG and Ligue 1 the most attention, and what other marketing opportunities could be presented?Next, we discuss the latest report, which shows that the relationship between PSG and Simons is 99% over, following a meeting between the player and Luis Enrique. We debate how the club should handle the player who doesn't want to continue at the club but has become a transfer target for many top clubs following the UEFA European Championship. We wrap up the show by answering questions sent in by listeners, including who should lead PSG's attack, depth on the wings, and whether Senny Mayulu and Cher Ndour will go out on loan this season. As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This week, we take a listener suggestion and discuss how we research watches before buying. We've hit upon this before, but it's a constantly evolving topic that deserves an update. For our beloved listeners, the watch content begins after 19 minutes. If you're a watch collector and enjoy vintage, landing a great specimen often requires research. In this episode, we mention some of our most common tactics. Some of these processes are tried and true while others are more recent. They're all helpful, though, and can lead to a rewarding result. The lack of doing one's homework, however, can be disastrous.HandgelenkskontrolleWe open our episode on watch research with a recap of Balazs' experience at a recent UEFA European Championship match in Stuttgart. It was a fantastic time without any travel troubles! Mike mentions a recent disappointing trip to the famed Portobello Road in London where the watches were abysmal. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Mike is wearing a new arrival. It's a '60s 14ct gold Movado Museum watch with a manual winding movement that needs a service. This leads to a discussion about the designer of the watch, Nathan George Horwitt. Balazs is still (rightfully!) in love with his new Rolex Submariner 5513.Research before buyingOne of our faithful listeners, Adam, sent us a note and asked if we could discuss how we research a watch before deciding to buy. In particular, he mentioned defunct brands. The topic is a wide one, but we mentioned several of our go-to tips including:Using a site such as Google Images to compare different examples of the same watchFollowing the links found on Google Images to see if old forums or sales ads add new informationForumsSocial media including Instagram to find similar models and authorities on given brands who can helpIt is even more difficult to research defunct brands or watches from the '30s or '40s. We discuss our techniques for sorting the good from the bad. Thanks again for listening and we hope you enjoyed the show. Summer has officially arrived, and so has a fresh batch of transfer rumors to get Paris Saint-Germain supporters excited for next season. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Jonathan Johnson from CBS Sports to discuss the latest PSG transfer rumors, and we also get an update on Ligue 1 broadcast rights.First, we get to the breaking news that Manchester United has reportedly made an initial offer for midfielder Manuel Ugarte. I get Johnson's thoughts on why PSG would be ready to move on from Ugarte after one season and whether he would be a good fit at Manchester United and other clubs who may be interested in the Uruguay international.Next, we discuss whether PSG should move on from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and instead use Luis Enrique's influence to potentially persuade Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams to come to the Parc des Princes.I also asked Johnson who would be a better fit for PSG: Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyonnais or Stade Rennais youngster Désiré Doué.We conclude with the latest on Xavi Simons and what might be keeping him from returning to PSG, under-the-radar players at the UEFA European Championship and Copa América who could be a good fit at PSG, and the potential impact on Ligue 1 teams if a broadcast deal is not agreed upon soon.As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. pWotD Episode 2611: UEFA European Championship Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 182,561 views on Tuesday, 25 June 2024 our article of the day is UEFA European Championship. The UEFA European Football Championship, less formally the European Championship and informally the Euros, is the primary association football tournament organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The competition is contested by UEFA members' senior men's national teams, determining the continental champion of Europe. It is the second-most watched football tournament in the world after the FIFA World Cup; the Euro 2016 final was watched by a global audience of around 600 million. The competition has been held every four years since 1960, except for 2020, when it was postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, but kept the name Euro 2020. Scheduled to be in the even-numbered year between FIFA World Cup tournaments, it was originally called the European Nations' Cup before changing to its current name in 1968. Since 1996, the individual events have been branded as "UEFA Euro [year]".Before entering the tournament, all teams other than the host nations (which qualify automatically) compete in a qualifying process. Until 2016, the championship winners could compete in the following year's FIFA Confederations Cup, but were not obliged to do so. From the 2020 edition onwards, the winner competes in the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions. The sixteen European Championship tournaments have been won by ten national teams: Germany and Spain have each won three titles, Italy and France have won two titles, and the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Greece and Portugal have won one title each. To date, Spain is the only team to have won consecutive titles, doing so in 2008 and 2012.The most recent championship, held across Europe in 2021 (postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), was won by Italy, who lifted their second European title after beating England in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on penalties. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:00 UTC on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see UEFA European Championship on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kajal.

Germany hosts the tournament, which is taking place from 14 June 2024 to 14 July 2024, and the winner will later compete in the 2025 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions against the 2024 Copa América winner. The tournament comprises 24 teams, with Georgia the only team making their European Championship finals debut. It is the third time that European Championship matches are played on German territory and the second time in reunified Germany, as West Germany hosted the tournament's 1988 edition, and four matches of the multi-national Euro 2020 were played in Munich. It is the first time the competition is held in what was formerly East Germany with Leipzig as a host city, as well as the first major tournament since the 2006 FIFA World Cup that a reunified Germany serves as a solo host nation. The tournament will return to its usual four-year cycle, after the 2020 edition was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Italy are the defending champions, having won the 2020 tournament against England on penalties in the final. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:27 UTC on Saturday, 15 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see UEFA Euro 2024 on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Ivy Standard.

A host nation for a major men's football tournament that doesn't have anti-gay laws? Welcome to Germany for the UEFA European Championship! For LGBTQ+ fans and allies, this tournament is a refreshing change compared to the last two World Cups in Russia and Qatar. It will also feel different from the pan-continental staging of the previous Euros, held while the pandemic was ongoing. So what should supporters expect at Euro 2024? Joining host Jon Holmes from FvH for a chat is Alice Drouin, one of the organisers of Pride House Berlin. The venue will be the community place to hang out in the German capital, not only to watch live football but to take part in talks and activities. Alice gives us the lowdown on the project, and also puts these Euros into a wider queer context - the national mood, UEFA's role, and whether the month-long football festival will be a Pride party as well. After that, the episode focuses on England and Scotland. Three Lions Pride co-founder Joe White will be out in Germany for the duration - they tell us about the LGBTQ+ fans group's plans, how they will provide visibility and whether Gareth Southgate has got a squad that can match or even better the run to the Euro 2020 final. Football writer Andrew Henderson, the creator of Pride of the Terraces, tells us what success would look like for the Scots, and explains why the media's role is critical for helping the football to blend in with Pride Month, not stand apart. It wasn't until Luis Campos and Luis Enrique intervened that he was able to play. We react to Mbappé's press conference and why there is bad blood between the former PSG superstar and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.I also asked Johnson whether he thinks Mbappé colluded with Real Madrid to leave on a free transfer and whether the Frenchman will be viewed negatively for chasing a trophy that he couldn't win at PSG.We transition away from Mbappé to another player causing drama for PSG. Xavi Simons was expected to return to France following his loan at RB Leipzig, but his future remains in question, with a decision likely coming after the Euros. I asked Johnson his thoughts on where he sees the Netherlands international playing next season. The show concludes with Johnson reacting to the latest transfer news that PSG is interesting in signing Julián Álvarez from Manchester City and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. pWotD Episode 2486: UEFA Champions League Welcome to popular Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of a popular Wikipedia page every day. With 114,832 views on Wednesday, 21 February 2024 our article of the day is UEFA Champions League. The UEFA Champions League (historically known as the European Cup and mostly abbreviated worldwide as the UCL) is an annual club association football competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is contested by top-division European clubs, deciding the competition winners through a round robin group stage to qualify for a double-legged knockout format, and a single leg final. It is the most watched club competition in the world and the third-most watched football competition overall, behind only the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup. It is one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world and the most prestigious club competition in European football, played by the national league champions (and, for some nations, one or more runners-up) of their national associations.Introduced in 1955 as the Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens (French for European Champion Clubs' Cup), and commonly known as the European Cup, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to the champions of Europe's domestic leagues, with its winner reckoned as the European club champion. The competition took on its current name and format in 1992, adding a round-robin group stage in 1991 and allowing multiple entrants from certain countries since the 1997–98 season. It has since been expanded, and while most of Europe's national leagues can still only enter their champion, the strongest leagues now provide up to four teams. Clubs that finish next-in-line in their national league, having not qualified for the Champions League, are eligible for the second-tier UEFA Europa League competition, and since 2021, for the third-tier UEFA Europa Conference League. In its present format, the Champions League begins in late June with a preliminary round, three qualifying rounds and a play-off round, all played over two legs. The six surviving teams enter the group stage, joining 26 teams qualified in advance. The 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four teams and play each other in a double round-robin system. The eight group winners and eight runners-up proceed to the knockout phase that culminates with the final match in late May or early June. The winner of the Champions League automatically qualifies for the following year's Champions League, entering at group stage, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and as of 2024 the new FIFA Intercontinental Cup which serves as a replacement for the previous annual format of the Club World Cup. Spanish clubs have the highest number of victories (19 wins), followed by England (15 wins) and Italy (12 wins). England has the largest number of winning teams, with six clubs having won the title. The competition has been won by 23 clubs, 13 of which have won it more than once, and eight successfully defended their title. Real Madrid is the most successful club in the tournament's history, having won it 14 times. Manchester City are the current European champions, having beaten Inter Milan 1–0 in the 2023 final for their first title. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:23 UTC on Thursday, 22 February 2024.For the full current version of the article, see UEFA Champions League on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Amy Neural.

Martin O'Neill, OBE won two European Cups as a player for Nottingham Forest under the legendary management duo of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor and earning 64 international caps for Northern Ireland including captaining the side at the 1982 World Cup. As a manager O'Neill became one of the most in-demand leaders of his generation, building a reputation as a deep thinker on the game from his start at Wycombe Wanderers, moving through stints in charge at Norwich City, Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa and Sunderland. In 2013, O'Neill was appointed Republic of Ireland manager, with Roy Keane as his assistant, and led them to qualification for the 2016 UEFA European Championship, for only the third time in the nation's history, beating the reigning world champions, Germany in the process. O'Neill remains one of the most interesting and erudite people in football, so it's fitting he's written a book detailing the story of his life and career. On Days Like These is published by Pan Macmillan. So we took the opportunity to ask Martin O'Neill what he's learnt about how football works, from the dugout to the boardroom. Unofficial Partner is the leading podcast for the business of sport. PSG's Fast and Furious Start to the Transfer Window

Sometimes, you think you have a podcast planned and then something happens that changes everything. On this episode of The 1970, I'm joined by my co-host, Marc Damon, to discuss the latest Paris Saint-Germain transfer news, however, all of that got pushed to the side after Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed during a UEFA European Championship match against Finland due to an apparent heart attack. It was a scary scene that could have been even worse if not for the life-saving efforts from his teammates and doctors. We react to the decision to continue the match after Eriksen's collapse and the coverage of the incident in which broadcasters continued to show the Inter Milan player receive life-saving treatment on the pitch. Marc and I then attempt to transition to PSG and the transfer window that is now officially open. Earlier this week, the club officially signed Georginio Wijnaldum and we discuss what the former Liverpool FC midfielder will bring to Les Parisiens. Wijnaldum was heavily recruited by FC Barcelona and I ask Marc about his tweet in which he declared PSG as the alpha club. The signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma isn't official, but all reports indicate that it's just a matter of time until one of the best young goalkeepers in the world signs for PSG. What does his arrival mean for Keylor Navas and why would PSG make this move when other positions need to be addressed? We also discuss Kylian Mbappé's contract situation with Marc asking why the France international is holding PSG to such high standards when it comes to building a team around him while Real Madrid, for example, has been pretty stagnant in recent months. We conclude the show with a conversation about beIN Sports, who hold the U.S. rights to Ligue 1. They recently sold their rights to La Liga to ESPN, and we speculate what they might do with Ligue 1 ahead of the 2021-22 season.
