UK correspondent Matt Dathan joins Kathryn to talk about the one story that's dominated the news headlines since Friday - the high profile BBC presenter who allegedly paid a young person for explicit messages. Huw Edwards was outed by his wife this morning, as she said he was in hospital with 'serious mental health issues'. The government is determined to push its controversial Illegal Migration Bill onto the statute book before Parliament rises for its summer recess next week - but is being stymied by the House of Lords. And the UK's Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has told Ukraine at the NATO summit in Lithuania that it's not an "Amazon" service for weapons and it should show more gratitude for donations. Matt Dathan is Home Affairs Editor at The Times

This is the second podcast about the UK BBC 2 television documentary Princes and the Press. Podcast #117 of mine covered Part one of this two-part series. As I said in my earlier podcast, nothing that came out in part 1 of the TV program was really new. We had confirmed from UK newspaper reporters themselves, what we already suspected, that members of the UK Royal Family work in silos, are highly competitive over the amount of positive press coverage that they receive, and that they occasionally leak stories to the press - both to push their own agenda's and / or to make other members of their family look bad. We also learned that William glad handles the press recognizing that the Royals and the press somewhat rely on each other, whilst Harry loathes them, with this linked back to his mother's death and the treatment of his former girlfriends and now his wife Meghan. The first program touched briefly on the actions of members of the Royal Family and their staff, briefing the press about other Royal Family members, but without saying which royal household was doing it. The newspaper reporters, the ones providing the narrative in both episodes of the documentary, being extremely protective of their highly placed sources.Despite this vey casual mention on back briefing the press, after the airing of episode one there was an immediate fall-out for the BBC in that Prince William and Kate (Catherine) decided to have Kate's Christmas Carol concert aired by rival UK TV channel ITV as opposed to the BBC . We all wondered why? It seemed such an over-reaction to the content of the first episode. Well, after finally viewing the second part of the documentary, William and Kate and their Kensington Palace staff do not come out smelling of roses. Here's what we learned from part 2 of Princes and the Press:1. The allegations levelled against Meghan of bullying royal staff were discussed as well as the timing of these revelations, just before Meghan and Harry's March 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview. 2. The documentary takes us back in time, to when Meghan had good press in the UK, and then the sudden change. Why this change took place, as far as news reporters were concerned. 3. We learned that the UK press love Kate. 4. Meghan's so called 'missteps' are discussed - how this modern princess that the press and the public so very much wanted, didn't act like other princesses.5. The creation of the soap opera by the press in comparing Meghan and Kate, and comparing the household of William and Kate v Meghan and Harry. 6. Meghan and Harry's handling of the birth of Archie and how this annoyed the press. 7. UK reporters in the documentary admitting that they have been deliberately targeting Meghan and Harry with negative news stories, and printing positive ones for Kate and William.I end by asking why any of this is important and ponder are the Royals playing a dangerous game in leaking stories - are they risking their own survival? Please keep listening for future podcasts on all things Meghan, Harry, Archie and Lili. In this episode, recorded remotely in early August, I speak with Kate Flitcroft - one of the incredible jewellery experts on the iconic UK BBC programme, The Antiques Roadshow. Kate, who is now part of the jewellery team at Bonhams, divulges what goes on behind the scenes, some of the amazing pieces of jewellery that she has discovered on the show and what it is like to film in some of the country's most spectacular stately homes and gardens. This episode is in memory of my father, Mark Goodbody, who died earlier this week (7th Sept 2021) and who loved the AR so much that he would more often than not disturb bedtime with my babies, to tell me to turn the show on as there was an exquisite piece of jewellery to look at. Of course I was probably watching it too! The show has been a family favourite for as long as I can remember - my mother wouldn't even let us talk during it! In a new report on the future of CBD in the UK, the industry calls on Government to allow British farmers to grow hemp to produce the oil. CBD - cannabidiol - comes from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. It’s used as an additive in many products, from food and drink to skin treatments and the growing market for it here is reckoned to be worth 300 million pounds a year. No surprise then that farmers would like to get involved, but as of now, although they can grow hemp with a licence, it can't be used for CBD extraction. The Home office told us its waiting for advice from the independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs on how the law on CBD products can be strengthened and clarified before anything is decided. The BBC Food and Farming Awards are back! The awards will give us a chance to celebrate the people or companies who’ve made a real difference, over the past year. With the Farming for the Future Award, we want to recognise the individuals and business who are going above and beyond to find solutions to the many challenges facing farmers and are working to build a more resilient and sustainable industry for the future. We’re accepting nominations now via the BBC Food and Farming Awards website – bbc.co.uk/foodawards – where you’ll find details of all of the categories, as well as our terms and privacy notice. Nominations close at one minute to midnight on Monday the 17th of May 2021. And we find out about "Inns on the Edge" - a new project to record the history and heritage of pubs along the 50 mile Lincolnshire coastline between Grimsby and Boston. After instructing countries around the world that lockdowns were the only way to deal with COVID-19 in the absence of a vaccine, the World Health Organisation has now advised that they are not a long term solution to handling the virus. So what do we do now? Do we leave the more vulnerable people in our community to lock themselves away while we get on with our lives? Tommy tells too about his time at Southern Sound and back in BBC local radio and Talksport. Toronto's Dayna Shereck releases her debut EP called Suitcase Full Of Dreams on June 23rd. The project was produced by Larry Beaird of Beaird Music Studios in Nashville. She is also releasing a music video for the song "Goodbye Doesn't Say It All". “Life is messy, and I’m not afraid to write about it,” says Dayna. “There is no such thing as playing it safe in music. I want to say what people are really feeling, and that comes down to being willing to be vulnerable.” Dayna describes herself as “a late bloomer” in music and more of a writer than a vocalist. In the four short years Dayna has been writing, she has made numerous trips to Nashville and developed a strong relationship with Dan Hodges Publishing which has led to writing opportunities with more established writers. She has been placed on NSAI’s “Ones to Watch” list, and has been a finalist and semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition for 2012, 2013 and 2014. She has had her songs recorded by several independent artists, including co-writing two songs placed on Marcum Stewart’s album “Put It in Drive”, an album that has secured TV and film placements in the US, and that has received airplay on the UK-BBC. “Whadaya Say”, a song co-written with Marcum Stewart and Shantell Ogden, was recently placed in the new film “On the Wing” with Corbin Bernsen and Shirley Jones. “Country music has always been about honesty and true emotion” says Don Graham of Cashbox Canada. “Dayna Shereck delivers both in spades. Great songs, great voice. With talent like this, she will be around for a long time”.
