Liz and Michelle are joined in this episode by Melinda Messenger, mum of three adult children who is a former Page Three girl and TV presenter. In 2015 she began practising as a qualified psychotherapist. In early April, with The Adventure Boutique, she is taking part in a trek to support the Liang Tang region of Nepal, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2015. And It's not too late for you to join her! Melinda provides an insight into what it was like to be a Page Three glamour model, including how her view about doing that type of work changed over time. She also talks about her work as a transpersonal integrative psychotherapist. They also discuss the ups and downs of being a parent, personal relationships, and why dating apps are not for her. KEY TAKEAWAYS Despite being willing to model topless, Melinda now realises that it was still a kind of exploitation. Be mindful of what you let into your life and where you let it in from, including on social media. Identify the things that drain your energy and stay away from them. The transpersonal is the part of us that is greater than just our psychological makeup. Who we are underneath it all. Being able to identify behavioural patterns helps you to identify the root of your issues, which is essential if you want things to change. Melinda helps people to untangle the threads and facilitates people healing to regain control over their lives. BEST MOMENTS “I was also complicit in exploiting myself, in a sense.” “When people comment it is a reflection of how they view life, themselves, and others. It's actually got nothing to do with me.” “Anything that's asking for your attention is either going to take or feed your energy.” “Life is about navigating between the depths of the ocean and riding the waves.” “I could use a different name and a different picture, but that's not really the best start to a new relationship.” If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, and review it on your podcast platform. We read every email sent to us at twowomenchatting@gmail.com so please get in touch! Check out our supporting blogs on this topic at www.twowomenchatting.com. EPISODE RESOURCES The Adventure Boutique Website ABOUT THE GUESTS Melinda shot to fame after being spotted on a billboard ad she did for a windows firm in Swindon in 1997. It was an advert that made an impact - so much so that all the posters were stolen! Despite this vote of confidence, at one stage Melinda felt so self-conscious that she started using heavy makeup to cover up and try to bury those feelings. She went on to become an English television presenter, glamour model, and Page Three girl. Melinda presented the magazine programme Live from Studio Five and was formerly the co-presenter of the reality show Cowboy Builders. Mum to three and now an empty nester, she parted ways with her ex-husband Wayne Roberts in 2012, and she admitted last year that she wanted to start dating again. After quitting regular television work, Melinda undertook training in psychotherapy and has practised since 2015. Now she has a new challenge, taking part in a trek to support the Langtang region of Nepal which was devastated by the 2015 earthquake. Wayne Roberts. Miracle. It was mind blowing to meet Wayne. I was told he had a tragic ski accident just a couple of months prior to a meeting with him and he was walking, talking, and mixing with a group of people without much physical impairment or any mental impact. Wayne looked normal as can be and yet, Wayne had wrecked while skiing at Solitude Ski area on an icy double black diamond run and even being a ski instructor, he went down hard! Wayne hit so hard on his face that it broke his neck and then slammed into a grove of trees head first where the damage continued. Wayne guarded his head with his arm and when he smashed into the trees, it broke his arm completely and his back! 21 bones broke in total. 4-5 broken ribs and bruised lungs on top of that. Wayne's son Dillon was by his side the whole time and remained stoic and brave at the age of 14. This story resonates pain, healing, and bravery + love. So happy Wayne is here today to tell us his story and is healing well. Tune in to hear his story. Thanks Wayne for your story!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bob-howard9/message

In this episode that first aired live on the radio show, we speak with Dr. Bob Bors who heads up the fruit program at the University of Saskatchewan. Bob is the co-author of a new book that we are really stoked about, Growing Fruit in Northern Gardens. In recent years Bob’s program for breeding hardy fruit has released 5 sour cherries, 4 apples, and 8 haskap varieties. Find more about the program, Bob, and the book visit fruit.usask.caIn the second half of the show, we chat with food thinker Wayne Roberts. Wayne is the former head of the Toronto Food Policy Council, a group of citizens, food activists, and experts that helps to shape civic food policy. His books include The No-Nonsense Guide to World Food and Food for City Building; A Field Guide for Planners, Actionists and Entrepreneurs. Wayne now speaks around the world about things that relate to food: policy, waste, food-related careers, and the green economy. This show is all about pushing boundaries—and Wayne is a big believer that urban gardeners can push a big boundary: growing more food in cities.Tomato Talk Segment: After a tour of the field trials, Emma chats about top tomato varieties with Nadine, who manages the vegetable seed trials at William Dam Seeds.Biggs-on-Figs Segment: For the Biggs-on-Figs segment, Steve chats with Ben Nguyen, a gardener and fig collector who likes to grow tropical fruits and veggies in Seattle, where they are not supposed to grow. Ben created a very useful tool: The Ultimate Breba List. Ben’s blog is Seattle Garden & Fruit Adventures.
At a very early age, Wayne Roberts knew he wanted to be involved with filmmaking. Inspired by Tim Burton and Stanley Kubrick, he loved the idea of creating new worlds. But, outside of film, he was inspired by Ernest Hemingway and various other classic authors. Roberts’ is relatively new to the scene, but his first two films have made a big impact. In ‘Katie Says Goodbye,’ Olivia Cooke, Christopher Abbott, Mireille Enos, and Mary Steenburgen star in a film about a 17-year-old waitress-prostitute who wants a better life. In his latest film, ‘The Professor,’ Johnny Depp takes the lead opposite Rosemarie DeWitt in a comedy-drama about a college professor who takes a reckless turn in life once he discovers he’s been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In this interview, the writer-director talks about doing right by the characters, how a flash can turn into a full feature, the logistics of his creative process, the necessity of a powerful screenplay, why films should focus on emotion, and why it’s vital to avoid the trends of cinema. Johnny Depp stars as an English professor for a prestigious New England college named Richard Brown who learns he has late-stage lung cancer and probably only six months to live without treatment, which he doesn't plan on seeking. On top of this, Richard is also a terminally bored, self-absorbed jerk whose own life has been falling apart long before this diagnosis. His wife (Rosemarie DeWitt) is cheating on him, with the chancellor at his school (Ron Livingston), no less. Now he can say whatever he feels like, knowing he's on his way out, and what he has to say is not always kind. With perhaps only months left, he decides to continue to teach his literature class, hoping to impart some actual value to his current crop of students before he succumbs to the disease. He's also going to try to experience life without worrying about the consequences - a life he comes to realize he should have been trying to live all along.

20170924 - Wayne Roberts - The Bride Of Christ (Rev 19) by Hoover Church of Christ
Katie Says Goodbye is screenwriter/director Wayne Roberts' first feature. Unlike most first features, however, it had its world premiere earlier this year in front of a packed house in the middle of one of the world's biggest film events: Toronto International Film Festival. In the film, Olivia Cooke throws her name into the best actress ring starring as the titular Katie, an ever optimistic diner waitress who doesn't let the harsh realities of her Arizona homestead break her down. Instead, she focuses on earning enough money to finally break out of her trailer park and make a move to San Francisco. Her preferred method in fundraising? Prostitution. Needless to say, this leads to some challenges in her life, especially when she starts dating Bruno, stoically portrayed by Christopher Abbott, a mechanic with a history of grand theft auto. No Film School’s Jon Fusco sat down with Abbott and Roberts to discuss how a writer's work is best achieved by getting rid of any hesitations and letting their characters speak through them.
I speak with Wayne Roberts, regional director of Ducks Unlimited and Joe Warren of Wild Birds Unlimited. Joe talks about feeding birds in the summer and helping baby birds that fall out of the nest. Wayne discusses Ducks Unlimited and ducks in general.

Demand for organic food in Canada has been growing steadily at 25 percent a year. With new federal regulations passed in December and a new Canada Organic logo backing organic claims, the Canadian organics sector can expect this growth to continue. Canadians are becoming more health conscious and concerned about the safety of our food system. Consumers need to be aware of new information about our food, especially as it relates to our and our children's health. That's why scientists, children's health experts and the general public discussed what it means to grow up organic at the one day conference "Growing Up Organic" in Toronto on February 17th , 2007. The conference was hosted by Canadian Organic Growers. The organic standard bans the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, additives, genetically modified organisms and irradiation. The result is food that has fewer toxic residues and a healthier ecosystem that will sustain food production over the long term. With the growing popularity of organics, people are asking many questions. Some of the more common questions include: Are organic foods really healthier? Should I be buying organics for my children? Are organics worth the higher price? The body of knowledge around organics continues to emerge, as scientists and nutritional experts conduct studies to answer these kinds of questions. Speakers Ann Clark, Associate Professor in Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph (Guelph, ON) - Dr. Clark's research program encompasses pasture and grazing management and organic agriculture, as well as risk assessment of genetically modified crops. A native Californian, she studied at the University of California at Davis and at Iowa State University. Her academic career started at the University of Alberta, but she has been at Guelph since 1983. In a career spanning 26 years, she has authored 15 books or chapters in books, presented papers at more than 50 conferences and symposia, and published 25 refereed journal and 150 technical and extension articles. She currently teaches Crop Ecology, Crops in Land Reclamation, Managed Grasslands, and several courses in Organic Agriculture, and coordinates the new Major in Organic Agriculture. Peter Macleod, Executive Director of Crop Protection Chemistry - CropLife Canada (Toronto, ON) - CropLife Canada is a trade association representing the developers, manufacturers and distributors of plant science innovations (pest control products and plant biotechnology) for use in agriculture, urban and public health settings. Peter MacLeod has spent his career in the field of scientific research and regulatory affairs. His research activity has mainly focused on the degradation of pesticides in soil and water but he has also managed environmental toxicology studies and food residue studies. Peter is an active participant on the Pesticide Management Advisory Committee to the Federal Minister of Health and has served on many panels on pesticides and risk management. Born in Yarmouth , Nova Scotia his fondness for Agriculture and Science led him to attend the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He graduated in 1987 with a B.Sc. (Agr.) Hon., Dalhousie University. Ellen Desjardins, Public Health Nutritionist - Region of Waterloo Public Health (Waterloo, ON) - Ellen has worked in various programs throughout the province and at the federal level for the past 20 years. Ellen has co-authored numerous articles in the area of food security. She has also chaired work-groups and prepared position papers for the Ontario Public Health Association on food systems, public health concerns about food biotechnology, and mercury in fish. In 2005, Ellen was a founding member of the new national organization Food Secure Canada. Wayne Roberts, Coordinator, Toronto Food Policy Council (Toronto, ON) - Wayne moderated the session of the conference titled Is Organic Worth the Price?. The Toronto Food Policy Council partners with business and community groups to develop policies and programs promoting food security. Our aim is a food system that fosters equitable food access, nutrition, community development and environmental health.
Our food system has been built on a foundation of oil (gasoline, pesticides, fertilizers). As we reach the highest use of oil-dependent practices ever, we are also reaching a critical point in the availability of this finite resource. Peak Oil has been the term used to describe the point in time when extraction of oil from the earth reaches its highest point and then begins to decline. We won't be able to say with certainty when we have reached peak oil until after the fact. Many experts say we have already reached the peak. How can the world's population be fed without the extensive use of fossil fuels in the production, processing and distribution of food? What changes can we make to implement food security at the local level, while promoting popular education, public health and community control? Guests/Pre-Recorded Presentation Wayne Roberts - Project Coordinator for the Toronto Food Policy Council, and regular contributor to Toronto's NOW Magazine. In a recent presentation hosted by the Vancouver Public Library and the Necessary Voices Society, Dr. Wayne Roberts helped tackle the question, "What will we eat when the oil runs out?" We hear clips from this presentation Charles Levkoe - Urban Agriculture Coordinator The Stop Community Food Centre. The Stop Community Food Centre in Toronto, strives to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds community and challenges inequality. A fixture in Toronto for over 30 years, The Stop believes that food access and security are basic human rights. Charles received a Masters degree in Food Security and Popular Education from the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. Charles is also on the board of the American Community Gardening Association.
