Tito Jackson, born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, was a pioneering musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist, most famous for his role as a founding member of the legendary Jackson 5. Growing up in a musical family, Tito's talent became apparent at a young age. He was the one who introduced the guitar to the Jackson family's sound, which soon became an essential element of their style. Alongside his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, Tito helped the Jackson 5 skyrocket to fame with their groundbreaking blend of pop, soul, funk, and R&B. The Jackson 5's rise to international stardom began with their signing to Motown Records in 1969, leading to a string of chart-topping hits like "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There." Tito's guitar work, combined with the group's tight harmonies and Michael's magnetic lead vocals, played a key role in defining their unique sound. The band's infectious energy and innovative performances broke racial barriers in the music industry and laid the groundwork for future generations of artists. When the Jackson 5 left Motown for Epic Records in 1975, they reinvented themselves as The Jacksons, allowing more creative control and deeper involvement in the songwriting and production process. Tito contributed significantly to this new phase, co-writing songs like "Torture" and "Body," which showcased his evolving artistry. The Jacksons continued their success with hit albums and world tours, solidifying their place as one of the most influential musical acts of all time. Tito Jackson's journey as a solo artist officially began in the 2000s, as he explored his passion for blues, a genre that had always resonated with him. His debut solo album, "Tito Time," released in 2016, marked his return to the spotlight, blending contemporary R&B, soul, and blues with tracks like "Get It Baby" featuring Big Daddy Kane. This album highlighted Tito's smooth vocal delivery, skilled guitar playing, and his ability to adapt his style to modern music trends while staying true to his roots. His last solo album in 2021 "Under Your Spell" was a return to his blues roots and was many years in the making. Outside of his musical pursuits, Tito Jackson became a respected figure in the music industry, mentoring aspiring musicians and producing records for other artists. He also participated in reality TV and charity events, using his platform to give back to the community and raise awareness for various causes. His dedication to philanthropy and music earned him widespread respect and admiration beyond his family's legacy. Until Tito passed away at the age of 70, in 2024, he had continued to perform live, captivating audiences both as a solo act and with his brothers in The Jacksons. His energetic stage presence and infectious charisma reminded fans of the timeless appeal of the Jackson sound. He remained a vital link to the past while continuously evolving, influencing both contemporary and classic genres. Tito Jackson's journey from the Jackson 5's soulful beginnings to his solo achievements stands as a testament to his enduring talent, adaptability, and passion for music. His legacy is not just as a member of a legendary family but as a groundbreaking artist in his own right. Through his work with The Jackson 5 and as a solo artist, Tito's songs and brilliant performances will never be forgotten. This week we pay homage to the late Tito Jackson. I spoke with him recently and in this podcast, he shares stories from his fabulous career. I hope you enjoy the episode. If you feel like reaching out to me, I'd love to hear from you. It's a fairly light episode this week, with Justin and Bec discussing the latest in Elvis news, including Graceland's big "Presley for a Day" tour announcement, briefly reacting to the Guitar Man Sessions FTD, Bec's latest Elvis book pick-ups and more. For Song of the Week, Bec spotlights Elvis' cover of the obscure Ivory Joe Hunter song "It's Still Here." Meanwhile, Justin cracks into the Guitar Man sessions FTD to explore the outtakes and early alternate arrangement of "Singing Tree," which languished for decades as a "Clambake" soundtrack bonus song. We have some beefy topics coming up in the coming weeks that we're busy preparing for, including discussions on the 1960 "Elvis is Back!" recording sessions, "That's The Way It Is" rehearsals and much more! On today's podcast a really fun songwriter, guitarist, and singer. You have probably seen Jerry Reed in the “Smokey and the Bandits” movies. We played his hit records. “Amos Moses,” “When You're Hot, You're Hot,“ “East Bound and Down” and “She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft),” which was used in the movie “The Bounty Hunter” with Jennifer Aniston. He was a southern boy from Atlanta and he'll tell you the rest of the story. Elvis recorded two songs Jerry wrote, “Guitar Man” and “U.S. Male.” He was asked to play guitar on both sessions. He also does the picking on Presley's hit “Big Boss Man.” Reed has been called one of the most inspirational guitar stylists in the history of country music. I talked with Jerry for a couple minutes at the WOKY pops festival.
Gurdip and Justin dig into the September 1967 and January 1968 sessions that brought country singer-songwriter Jerry Reed into Elvis' circle for a brief moment, until business interests got in the way. Through spread out across various singles, soundtracks as bonus tracks, and budget compilations, these sessions collectively show Elvis already embracing material that returns him to his blues and country roots, leading him to his comeback. Justin also provides some context on Jerry Reed's early career before his breakout hit "Guitar Man," famously covered by Elvis during these sessions. For Song of the Week, Justin takes the opportunity of covering these sessions to talk about "The Prisoner's Song," a deeply important pivotal 1924 recording in more ways than one, which Elvis, Jerry and the band attempted to comedically subvert during these sessions, only for their jam to have been partly recorded by Felton Jarvis, surfacing decades later on bootlegs re-titled as "Wings of an Angel", revealing in hindsight a disappointing moment of casual carelessness on Elvis' behalf. Gurdip, on the other hand, spotlights the fantastic #1 1958 hit "Hard Headed Woman" from the King Creole soundtrack... a hit that barely features in the movie it's from! Talk about a guy that has been through a lot and has come out on the other side so much better for it. G. Brian Benson is an amazing speaker, writer, producer, actor, Iron Man, cancer survivor, podcaster and one hell of a guitar player. Oh and did I mention, he might be one of the kindest, most soulful guys you could ever hope to meet. I am so honored to have this amazing man join me for The Ripple Effect Podcast. I am in awe of all that he is done and all that he still strives to do. He's inspirational from the word go and I am forever in his debt to have this opportunity to sit down and learn from him. Here's a bit more about Brian: In 2008, Brian followed a hunch and left his family's golf center business, stepping into the unknown. Ever since, inspiration has followed. Letting intuition be his guide, he began to step out of his comfort zone and unexpected paths and talents started to emerge such as writing, acting, and crafting stories. Tapping into this emerging creativity, Brian began his own hero's journey of self-realization and growth, which continues to influence his empowering and inspiring books, films, and presentations. In the finale to the epic Elvis and country music miniseries, Justin and guest host Garrett Cash briskly fly over nearly four and a half decades of time, tracing Elvis' impact and influence on country music, starting with several of the tributes paid to him immediately following his death and his posthumous country hits, including the success of the 1981 "Guitar Man" country overdub project and its proposed follow-up, cut short by the untimely passing of producer Felton Jarvis. They follow the progression of country from "urban cowboy" to "neo-traditional" in the late 1980s-early 1990s, as artists begin paying homage directly to Elvis following milestone anniversaries marking his passing, with tribute albums, movie soundtracks and direct covers, and the guys try to reckon with the induction of Elvis into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the CMA's backhanded recognition of his influence and importance. The late 90s give Justin and Garrett a chance to talk about country at its pop crossover peak of the 20th Century, with acts like Shania Twain, The Chicks and Garth Brooks all reaching mainstream audiences just the way Elvis did, as well as how innovations in technology and changes in regulations affected the country industry, including Brooks' successful attempts to overtake Elvis as the best selling solo artist in the United States. Moving into the 21st century, there's an aside to listen to some of virtual duets on the 2008 "Christmas Duets" album, which featured all prominent women country artists adding their vocals alongside Elvis, and then ponder what Elvis' career and rockabilly/rock'n'roll music can teach us about the 2010s "bro country" fad. Lastly, they briefly examine how Taylor Swift rose from the field of country music to become the Elvis equivalent of the current generation; and to connect to the themes we've been developing throughout the series, they even take a look at the unexpected roots of perhaps the biggest hit in country music this very month - one that has now crossed into the pop mainstream. Gurdip is back! The guys discuss the latest FTD releases, early reviews of "Priscilla" and listener feedback before Justin is joined for a brief Elvis chat by young Elvis fan Mal, of TCB Discussions (instagram.com/tcbdiscussions), who has been posting and blogging about Elvis, his career, his life and his influences. It's a very loose talk, but Justin picks her brain on how she became an Elvis fan during the height of pandemic lockdowns, and her journey as a fan these past couple years. You can visit Mal's blog as well over at https://tcbdiscussions.wixsite.com/tcbdiscussions Gurdip re-joins for Song of the Week and he settles in with the Mexican-flavored crooner ballad "You Can't Say No In Acapulco" from 1963's Fun in Acapulco, while Justin finally close a 5-and-a-half-year-long gap, finally tackling the song he'd originally intended to feature way back on Episode 5... and digs into Elvis's 1968 collaboration with Jerry Reed on Chuck Berry's 1956 hit "Too Much Monkey Business," the lyrical changes Elvis made from the original, and of course, the 1980 overdubbed "Guitar Man" version. Howard Mahan is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter originally from Fredonia, Kansas and now based out of Lawrence, Kansas. Howard started playing guitar in a family band at age 9. After finishing college where he studied guitar, business, and law, Howard has played shows and recorded music across the US with several different groups, including the primary configuration "Howard Mahan & Friends" In anticipation of the release of Mahan's second full length album “Marigold”, Howard recently stopped by the Tasty Brew Music Show on KKFI to get acquainted with my listeners and to help “Pitch” during a recent fund drive for the station. A central Illinois musical icon, Dave Chastain, recently stopped by the WCBU studio to reflect on his successful 40-plus year career.
“JERRY LEE and THE SUN SOUND”The Sun Sound began when Sam Phillips launched his record company in February of 1952. He named it Sun Records as a sign of his perpetual optimism: a new day and a new beginning. Sam rented a small space at 706 Union Avenue for his own all-purpose studio. The label was launched amid a growing number of independent labels. In a short while Sun gained the reputation throughout Memphis as a label that treated local artists with respect and honesty. Sam provided a non-critical, spontaneous environment that invited creativity and vision. As a businessman, Phillips was patient and willing to listen to almost anyone who came in off the street to record. Memphis was a happy home to a diverse musical scene: gospel, blues, hillbilly, country, boogie, and western swing. Taking advantage of this range of talent, there were no style limitations at the label. In one form or another Sun recorded them all. Then in 1954 Sam found Elvis Presley, an artist who could perform with the excitement, unpredictability and energy of a blues artist but could reach across regional, musical and racial barriers. He helped form the beginnings of the Sun Sound by infusing Country music with R&B. Elvis's bright star attracted even more ground-breaking talent to the Sun galaxy. Listed among his contemporaries and music mates were Johnny Cash, the inimitable Jerry Lee Lewis, and the “Rockin' Guitar Man”, Carl Perkins. These four soon became known as the Million Dollar Quartet. Right behind them came Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich, Bill Justis, Harold Jenkins (a.k.a. Conway Twitty) and other equally memorable musical talents. All eventually sold on Pop, R&B and Country charts and grew to international fame.Rockabilly became the major evolution in the Sun Sound. Lyrically it was bold; musically it was sparse; but it moved. In the 1950's Country music rarely used drums that were so vital to jazz, blues, and jump bands. In fact, drums were prohibited on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. However, Rockabilly drums played an essential role in driving teens across the nation to become enamored with the Rockabilly movement and the revolutionary Sun Sound. Once again, Sun was able to break new ground recording music of unparalleled diversity in an incubator of creativity.Inherent in the music of Sun is a vibrancy that survives to this day. Sincere, passionate music. Music that has stood the test of time. It is music that has reached across race, age and gender boundaries. It reflects the diversity and vision of the talent that recorded on the Sun label, and indeed, American popular culture itself.

Buzzy Martin taught guitar to the convicts at San Quentin Prison for three years and shows how music can transform lives, even for hardened criminals. The book and soon to be released motion picture present a compelling message about rehabilitation in one of America's toughest penitentiaries. With 2.3 million prisoners locked up, mass incarceration in this country needs to be addressed. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/james-herlihy/message

Guitar Man from the Neil Rogers Show
He's seen it all, he's done it all, he is "The Guitar Man." Jim's infectious joy and absolute love of the profession is an inspiration.
I've been thinking about putting this video together for sometime now. And I'm dedicating this video to William as a thank you for his donation and for making this video possible. Yesterday I got a message on youtube from Mr. Guitar Man one eight seven. And he said if I wanted to get the leg up on other video producers I should produce a video on the cock carousel. He says that no one has covered the topic, so I decided that today would be the day when I would take a shot at it. The reasons why women ride the cock carousel are varied. The more sexual partners they have the more notches they gain on their belt because society is increasingly telling women to measure themselves according to men's standards. Another reason is that thirty to forty years ago it was expected for a woman to be married and having children when she was in her early to mid twenties. After all those are her most fertile days. Yet society is telling women to build their careers, get an education and date in their twenties instead of settling down and having a family. Women's biological drive is to want to have sex in their twenties. This is the most sex filled decade in their lives for most women. At least the ones I've been with and the ones I've talked to about it. Women after thirty five still want sex but are usually seeking it out if they don't have a regular sex partner. Essentially you can't blame women for wanting sex, but you can blame them from jumping around from one sexual partner to the next. I blame the media and popular culture where women are told to jump from guy to guy. And it's socially acceptable for them to do so. Yet many of the women riding the cock carousel are either ignorant or unaware of the dangers that are found in the bedroom. They don't understand that STDs like HPV and herpes can be spread even while wearing condoms and that the more sex they have the higher their risk for getting cancer or never being able to have children.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/mgtow/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Alex Dunn is a guitarist who played on my album and recorded the outro for the first 113 episodes of the show.
