So many of us moms and caretakers of children with disabilities can find ourselves all too easily slipping into seasons of unhappiness, bitterness, self-doubt, self-hatred, and lack of motivation. Annette met virtually with Jenny Sanders, founder of iLovekickboxing in Agoura Hills, CA (recently shut down due to COVID-19) to discuss the importance of exercise and endorphins in preventing and fighting off depression. When Jenny’s son was diagnosed with autism in 2014, she found herself in a state of denial that quickly led to full-on depression. With no motivation to eat well, get active, or pursue her own hobbies, Jenny was completely out of shape, lethargic, and unhappy. In this mini-sode, Jenny shares her story of working through her depression with exercise and finding a new source of motivation to take actionable steps towards happiness. This is her story of transforming from dark skies and no hope, to a happy, proud, and successful mom, wife, friend, and individual.  Annette Hines has been practicing in the areas of Special Needs, Elder Law, and Estate Planning for more than 20 years. Ms. Hines brings personal experience with special needs to her practice and podcasts as the mother of two daughters, one of whom passed away from Mitochondrial disease in November 2013. This deep, personal understanding of special needs fuels her passion for quality special needs planning and drives her dedication to help others within the special needs community.

The things that we put into and onto our bodies play a huge role in determining our health. As a sufferer of numerous autoimmune diseases, our guest today, Jenny Melick, has had personal experiences with what can go wrong when we don't look after our bodies, and how we can rectify this. When Jenny began looking more deeply into the ingredients of the products we use on a regular basis, she was shocked. The use of buzz-words like ‘natural' can make us believe that we are being health conscious when really this is just a marketing trick. The motivation for Jenny to start Roses and Azalea — an organic and non-toxic personal care and beauty brand — was to provide women with products that are genuinely good for them. Jenny is a firm believer that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all' solution to health problems and that everyone needs to figure out what works best for them. However, she encourages taking the organic route whenever possible. Join us on today's show as we discuss these issues, as well as Jenny's new field of study, Ayurvedic medicine; the 80/20 rule; handling the challenges of a long-distance marriage, and some exciting news about Chrystal's new book and her personal development program.

In the latest of our Guest Special series, Good John is joined by Radio Presenter and Dunfermline fan Steven Mill, currently with Bauer Media Group which has Clyde, Tay FM, Moray Firth, Northsound and West FM as part of their network. We begin by chatting about his current role, where he presents Monday to Friday from 4pm til 7pm, and on his new Big Football Saturday Show that he co-hosts with Ewen Cameron. After starting out at Kingdom FM in Fife, Steven got his big break when he landed the newsreaders role on the Capital Scotland Breakfast Show. He talks about the camaraderie he had with presenters Des Clarke and Jenny Black and how the success of the show drew in a higher audience age average than their target market. When Jenny left to start a family, Steven moved into the co-presenter role with Des, with Amy Irons moving into the newsreaders role. He talks about the natural progression and how the show continued to be a success until its axe in 2019, leading to him moving onto his current role. Steven then talks about his love affair for Dunfermline Athletic, mainly influenced by his Grandfather who played for the Pars in the 50's. His earliest memories include the '96 promotion to the Premier League and Craig Faulconbridge's equaliser that delayed Celtic's title in '98. The Jimmy Calderwood era are Steven's favourite memories as a Dunfermline fan and most of his best XI comes from this era, two of which Steven believes should've had a Scotland cap. He talks about the Pars chances of a return to the top flight, and they are off to a good start this season. The podcast concludes with the usual quick fire questions. The moment the last bell rang, Jenny texted her mom to see if she could go get ice cream after school. Within seconds she had an answer. "Yay! I can go," she told her best friend, Emma. "Mom will pick me up at four." At the ice cream shop, the cashier behind the counter struggled with their order. In broken English, she repeated their order very slowly. The girl wore a head scarf, and Jenny thought she was probably new to the country. "No!" Emma said. "The strawberry sauce goes with vanilla, and hot fudge on the chocolate!" To Jenny, Emma whispered loudly, "Everyone knows that." The cashier winced, then turned to fill their orders. As they walked away with sundaes finally in hand, Jenny leaned over and told her friend, "I think she heard you." "So what?" said Emma. "She probably couldn't understand me anyway." They joined their friends, but Jenny kept thinking. What if her family suddenly moved to another country? Her French phrases wouldn't help much in Japan or Mexico. It would be hard! At four o'clock, Jenny went outside and noticed that the cashier was waiting too. She was busy texting someone. Wow, she's fast, thought Jenny as she watched the girl's thumbs fly across the screen. When Jenny's mom pulled up, Jenny said a quick "I'm sorry" to the girl as she passed her to get into the car. "What's that about?" asked Mom. Jenny told her the whole story, including how fast she could text. "It was kind of you to apologize, even though you weren't the one who said those things," said Mom. "It's interesting, isn't it? In just a few seconds, you got permission to come here today. What if, in just a few seconds, the cashier told relatives in Somalia or Sudan that American girls are rude? What if she saw your cross bracelet and said that Christian girls are rude?" Jenny thought about it. "Jesus said, 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' and with smartphones, the whole world is suddenly my neighbor!" "And even though Jesus died for the whole world, many of them don't know it," Mom pointed out. "Which is why we need to be good neighbors to everyone and help spread His love around the world." Sonja Anderson How About You? Did you know that you have neighbors all over the world? Because Jesus died for all people, everyone on earth is our neighbor--and things like computers and smartphones make it possible to communicate our attitudes to more people than ever before. That's why it's important to show a loving attitude toward all people. You can help communicate God's love to the whole world! Beginning is a beautifully well-written story. And it has the potential to affect readers emotionally. The characters have strengths and weaknesses with which many readers may identify. In Nora Edington’s novel, Beginning, we learn Jenny was sheltered by her parents. Now she is a lovely nineteen year old woman. Jenny is an intelligent young woman. At nineteen years old she is diligently studying to take exams for medical school. Yes, Jenny possesses both beauty and brains! Yet, other than one boy who she does not like, Jenny has virtually no experience with boys, never mind men. But Jenny’s friend, Leah, has invited Jenny to spend the summer with her at a lakeside cottage. Out by the lake, Leah and Jenny meet two handsome brothers, Gary and Ray. Gary is a bit rough around the edges, which makes him a pretty good match for Leah. Ray, however, becomes instantly taken by the sweet and lovely Jenny. When Jenny meets Ray, her life as she knows it begins to change. The shadow of naivety begins to disappear as a stunning array of light begins an awakening. This older man, Ray, is not only gorgeous, smart, and successful. He is smitten with Jenny. He quickly recognizes her inexperience. Ray begins to woo Jenny. Jenny is receptive to Ray's advances. The characters in Beginning are well-drawn and engaging. At times you may dislike Gary, but then he may redeem himself by letting his guard down and allowing us to see another, better side of him. Edington provides us with just the right amount of conflict/resolution/conflict to keep this story moving and on track. Edington skillfully paces the progression of Jenny’s carnal education with Ray. While the author has developed Ray as a sexy hunk of man, we get to see who he really is through his growing love for Jenny. I thoroughly enjoyed Beginning. This post contains affiliate links. This means I will make a commission at no cost to you if you make a purchase using the links. About Jenny Jenny is a journalist and mother that teaches about parenting from a different angle. Jenny has taken time to research and find parenting practices that allow parents and children to have more peace. By looking at history Jenny has found basic principles for parenting that allow parents to do less and enjoy their child more. Evolution of parenting Humans have evolved over the last 200,000 years without toys, without any stores that had toys, or Pinterest that had activities for kiddos. We have thrived without toys. So when did this need for toys start? When Jenny looks back on her research she finds that at the start of the industrial revolution is when toys became available. Jenny also notes that happiness started to decrease at the same time as well. This is also around the time that many parenting books came out that encouraged self-soothing and the thought that children need to be ignored so that you don’t spoil them. And so in place of that, we actually stopped honoring the most important thing that a child needs, which is a secure attachment to their parent or to their primary caregiver. And we started to give them toys and materials in place of that, which is the lousiest replacement. An Alternative Parenting Style  Jenny has been working hard to let parents know that you don’t have to stress yourself with purchasing toys and finding activities for your kids. News flash. Jenny doesn’t set up any activities for her daughter. And her daughter is learning and having fun every day. What she does is utilize RIE parenting. RIE parenting stands for Respectful Infant Educarer Parenting. RIE Parenting was created by Magda Gerber in the 1980s but was inspired by a Hungarian pediatrician, Emmi Pikler. He observed children thrive when they just played freely and unstructured in their environment. He also found that kids learn casually not testing by testing. Children were learning their alphabet by singing songs versus testing them with posters on the wall. So if we look inside of our houses, we have measuring cups. Those are stacking toys, right? And most of the things we see on Pinterest, putting balls in the holes, stacking color, sorting, all of Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/realhappymom)

"When people can come and know when they can find you at what time and what day, they will be there! Your die hard fans will go there!" - Jenny Melrose  Always have a call to action! Jenny goes live every Tuesday at 11 am and she says that she always has a freebie or call to action after her facebook live. This same freebie can also be shared on your podcast, blog, youtube, etc. You always want to build your list because although Facebook and instagram is a great tool to build your audience, when it's taken away, you've just lost a way to get a hold of your audience.  Go live on your Facebook page instead of your group. When you go live on your Facebook page, it's much easier to share that in multiple places as well as capture data that is needed to help your business grow.  Should you be present on ALL of the social media platforms? Jenny recommends showing on two but choose wisely! For example, if you're looking to be a blogger and attract to sponsored brands, you have to be on instagram because that is what brands are looking for!  There is no such thing as an overnight success! Jenny and I share our journey in the blogging world and how long it has taken our blogs to actually create a revenue. It's certainly not as easy as it looks and like anything, you have to build the know like and trust in your audience! At times especially on social media, it can be tough to see others that make it look easy but you really have to dig a little bit deeper into their journey. Just because it looks simple for someone else, it doesn't mean that you're a failure! Everyone's journey is different.  Let’s Connect! See all that Stacey has to offer at The Busy Mom Collective! @TinDogPodcast reviews the surprisingly good #Jenny The Doctors Daughter #Doctorwho Vol 1 from @BigFinish A brilliant bit of escapism and guaranteed to bring a smile   Jenny is brand new to the universe. Born a soldier, made for war, she has a Time Lord’s heritage. Luckily, that Time Lord is the Doctor. She’s ready to save planets, fight monsters, and save the day, using nothing but her bravery, wit and instinct – and an awful lot of running. 1.1 Stolen Goods by Matt Fitton Jenny is new to the universe and keen to explore – but in unfamiliar spaceships, accidents happen. She’s lucky to have someone on-hand to help. A slippery, fast-talking someone, called Garundel. Soon, Jenny is mixed up in cons and explosions. But she also finds something strange, inexplicable, and as new to universe as she is. She’ll call him Noah. 1.2 Prisoner of the Ood by John Dorney Moving into Leafield Crescent, Angie Glazebrook is surprised by an unexpected caller. But not half as surprised as Jenny, suddenly transported to a suburban close on twenty-first century Earth. And that’s nothing to the surprise of the neighbours when alien visitors start appearing. Visitors with tentacled mouths, carrying death-dealing orbs. The Ood have come for their prisoner… 1.3 Neon Reign by Christian Brassington The Dragon Lord rules Kamshassa with fear. Half the oppressed population live in an addicted stupor, while the other half are forced into service. Factories belch poisonous smoke, and Dragon Guards patrol the streets, condemning dissenters to the Eternal Fire. When Jenny and Noah arrive, it’s only a matter of time before they start a revolution. 1.4 Zero Space by Adrian Poynton Out in deep space, in the middle of – quite literally – nowhere, Jenny and Noah believe they’ve found a safe haven. And, very possibly, some answers. But the space station holds many secrets, and it won’t be long before Jenny’s past catches her up. Bounty hunter COLT-5000 is on her trail and will stop at nothing to hunt down its quarry… even in Zero Space! For over 20 years, Jon has helped some of the biggest brands in the world tell their story—including the Home Depot, Bose, Staples and the Dave Ramsey team. He is featured regularly on national media like CNN and Fox News. Jon is very busy and has huge aspirations, but what does that mean for his marriage? Interview  One of the things I remember getting excited about was Jenny Acuff writing a book called "Being Married to a Dreamer." We get the question all the time – occasionally Jenny will do Q&A with me and people will ask about how I get my wife to support my dream. One time Jenny just said, “Money is nice”. I thought the book would be a great idea and I announced it, but she didn’t want to write a book.  People write in all the time to encourage her to finish the book, and it’s still an idea that I think would be great but Jenny doesn’t want to write the book because she doesn’t want to speak on it. Talk a little about the tension—a lot of time dreamers are married to people who are more grounded. That’s definitely the case for Jenny and I – living with a dreamer is like a fire hose of ideas. The other person can often be the ‘how’ person and the dreamer can feel attacked. When Jenny was saying, “money is nice”, she wasn’t saying, “prove it!” She was saying that results make it easier to support it—when I’m getting up at 5 am and watching less TV. She knew that I was really getting excited about it.  The dreamer’s responsibility is to say when they just want to talk and brainstorm. Also, it’s not your wife’s job to carry all that. You’ve turned your wife into you warden, but we were created for community. How does this connect with the idea of being a dreamer? I think part of it is having shared dreams, but it’s also not forcing your dreams on someone else. Your spouse shouldn’t 100% understand your dream because it’s your dream, not his. Talk about the beginning and when you were figuring all this out, then how it’s evolved over time. Part of it is allowing your spouse to give honest feedback. There are a lot of marriages where, in your family of origin, the husband was the hero and the wife was the cheerleader. There are a lot of marriages where the wife doesn’t have the freedom to speak about things that should change. A lot of my job is to shorten the distance between when Jenny tells me something that’s true and when I believe it. It’s having a space where your spouse can be angry, excited, critical—they don’t have to just act a certain way. What closed the gap for you on how long it took for you to hear what Jenny had to say? It was other guys who had the kind of marriages I want. Most of the things I’ve learned, it hasn’t been like one day I woke up and was doing life differently. I heard a counselor once say that every man wants to know he’s enough and every woman wants to know she’s not too much. Give an example of when you and Jenny hit a space where she wanted you to throw the breaks and it was helpful. When I first started working for myself, she would tell me that it seemed like I was trying to make everyone else my boss. She would tell me that I get to make the decisions but out of fear I was trying to get everyone else to be the boss. She was essentially saying to own my decisions and take responsibility for what I choose. Another time she quit working for me—when you go on your own, you don’t have a community and your spouse becomes your community. I was running everything by her and she basically quit. My book Do Over she read like 8 times, but Finish she saw when it was done. Some couples work well together as an entrepreneurial couple, but they’re the unicorns. Talk a little to the people who are married to a dreamer. What can they do to support dreams but still be honest? I think it’s to take a pause – most situations will dissipate on their own. If your spouse has a crazy idea, just wait a week and they’ll be on to the next thing. Then be honest about what you need – tell them you’re nervous about them doing this thing again. Also, establish some ground rules. One of our rules is that I can register a URL on GoDaddy but if I haven’t touched it for a year I can’t renew it. Figuring out the simple ground rules is part of what you can do. How do you support her dreams? Part of it is that I don’t try to make them mine. I create space for her to do the things she wants to do. She went to Germany, Switzerland and Singapore last year with a girlfriend and I try to be really flexible that way. I can’t travel for my job and then expect her to always be home. Also not letting my stuff dominate the situation—she didn’t need to read Do Over that many times. Finish didn’t dominate our lives – it was my job, we launched it and it was great. How do you guys handle it with you traveling so much? We’re deliberate about it – Jenny told me one time, after saying goodbye to my kids, that I was giving them all my shame and guilt about leaving. The weepy goodbye thing ruins the kid’s week. That was a huge change for me. I also tie it together when we’re at Disney on a Tuesday—reminding them that we can do that cause I was in Oklahoma the week before.  Also, when you’re on the road be on the road and when you’re home be home.  I try to take them with me—I’m doing a cruise this summer with Sandi Patty and I’ll take them with me. They come when it makes sense. Talk a little about home. You have an office at home, how do you do that? I try to be deliberate about keeping things in my office—not the living room, the kitchen. I’m usually done by 4pm when I’m at home. I’m still trying to figure it out though, every 6 months it radically changes. I’ve heard you say one time that your kids are your kids, they’re not your content. I’m sure that applies to Jenny too, talk a little about that The older they get, the more invested they are in not being embarrassed on the Internet. They now are looking at more and suggesting stuff for me. I don’t reference my daughters’ Instagram name, a 14 year old doesn’t need to be inundated with followers. I don’t want my kids to be in ads, they’re not a prop. Your one simple thing for this week: Fight in the morning. You don’t have to have it out at 2am, find the right time to have the conversation. I think it’s the most misinterpreted verse from the Bible – thinking you have to finish every discussion before bed. Thanks for joining us for the Married People Podcast. I am now experiencing support more than I’ve ever had.   During the session my back problem and a very painful hip issue which had just surfaced two days prior to the call vanished completely. It wasn’t even on my list of issues to work on and it resolved completely saving me a trip to my chiropractor for treatment.   The two audio files embedded with healing energy are wonderful; soothing and healing. I’ve listened to them while working, creating a state of inward harmony that has made my work day more productive. Thank you Jenny." ~ Rev Tom Hudson PhD, Birth Rite Technology     “Shifts happening around as if a veil being removed to let the treasure out” "Jenny.., the real deal!!! As she started working on the issue I could sense shifts happening around as if a veil being removed to let the treasure out. I'm impressed with her in depth knowledge and explanation about her process. That's really amazing!!!!" ~ Aparna Vemuri, Inner Alchemy Facilitator     "Foot is completely healed,...no plates, no screws, no scars and I am able to walk, jump and run without pain" "On May 24, 2015 my foot was crushed by a large piece of machinery, 10 days after the incident my doctor informed me that he wanted to cut open my foot and install plates and screws to fuse a broken joint, this was devastating news to me, my foot was swollen and damaged enough, that is when I decided to heal myself without the surgery.   Empowered with my determination to heal myself I knew I needed some help, that is when I found Jenny and I am so thankful that I did. Jenny was just the kind of guidance and help I needed, from the first time we talked I knew I had found someone special.   Using all of the different modalities that she is trained in, Jenny was able to clear away any negative energies that might hinder my healing and using distance quantum touch was able to realign key bones in a way that I could actually feel. It felt like someone was pulling on my toe and I could sense the movement in my foot, it felt like there was a heating pad on my foot as we worked together in healing, repairing and cleansing my energy field.   Three sessions with Jenny was all it took for me and now as I sit less than four months later my foot is completely healed, I have returned to work with no plates, no screws, no scars and I am able to walk, jump and run without pain.   I am thankful every day for Jenny Ngo and her “God team” for helping me to recover so quickly and completely when I was told it wasn’t possible. Thank you Jenny for all of your help and kindness." ~ Andy Alberlan, Stafford, New York, USA     “Few minutes and fixed it… It’s a miracle” "My thumb really hurt bad and swollen all day. I took pain medicine but still not work. Jenny did some energy work for few minutes and fixed it. It has been 5 months, no more problem since.   It’s a miracle. Now I believe. Thanks Jenny!" ~ Michelle Lee, North Carolina, USA     “I was offered the job on the spot! ...Experienced the peace and calmness not possible before” "A few months ago, Jenny help me cleared out whatever stuff may be in the way of doing well on my job interview. I was becoming very unhappy with my current workplace.   I really wanted to get this job, better working conditions. I was offered the job on the spot! I was so happy.   I contacted Jenny again to help me with a few personal issues. My spouse and I were growing apart, sleeping in separate bedrooms. Fighting a lot.   Jenny worked on me clearing out a couple of spirits in me, my wife, kids, and house. I felt so much better right away. I also experienced the peace and calmness not possible before.   I got the Dimensional Healing Energy Session MP3. The next day, listened 5 or 6 times. I felt really good. It really calmed me down. Don't get angry as much, thinking very clearly. I also re-experienced the peace and calm when I listened.   I enjoyed listening to the MP3 a lot. My wife and I are doing so much better. Thank you so much Jenny!" ~ S. T., Raleigh, North Carolina, USA     “Spent ~$1,000 for driving lessons...This time I passed the driving test” "I have been living in the USA now for 9 years, but have been afraid drive a car. I went 2 times but did not passed the driving test and spent ~$1,000 for driving lessons.   Jenny told me to pray and ask for help, and she will further help me with her energy healing regarding this situation. This time I passed the driving test.   It has been 2 weeks since I passed my driver’s license test and I haven’t been driving even with my husband sitting next to me in the car. I feel so nervous and fearful, feel can’t drive off the exit onto the highway.   I came to Jenny for help again. Jenny told me to pray as she worked on me. This was late Tuesday night, on Wednesday morning I felt confident and has been driving to work onto the highway ever since without fear. I feel so happy.   Also several months earlier, Jenny helped with my heel pain. Since then, my heel felt a lot better, rarely any pain now compared to before on a daily basis. Jenny is very kind. Thank you Jenny and God above!" ~ Lisa Duong, North Carolina, USA     “Going to the emergency room 2 times/week for several months… Have not been having any fever or seizures for 4 months straight.” "Jenny’s energy healing work has helped my family a lot. Both of my twins ~3-4 yrs old, was having very frequent high fevers. My girl twin frequently have seizures when her fever gets really high, going to the emergency room 2 times/week for several months in a row. Makes me very worry to death.   Since Jenny worked on my kids, they have not been having any fever or seizures for 4 months straight.   Several months back, I regularly have a hard time sleeping, frequently have migraines, severe back pain, and shoulder pain and numbness everyday.   After Jenny worked on me, I sleep very well- “knocked out”, rarely I have headache, back pain, and shoulder pain. Thank you so much Jenny! " ~ Dawn P, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA     “I have no fears, no anxiety. I see nothing.” "One month ago I was feeling really down and was in pain, wrist flaring up again. In just a few minutes it was gone.   The pain has not come back since. I since also come to realized Obedience and Trust plays a very large part of our recovery. Ms. Jennie has helped me to realize that I can and will overcome and has overcome.   Now, I have no fears, no anxiety. I see nothing. I am getting a good night sleep. I was seeing real people in me day and night. I used to believe that I was crazy so did the doctors and family.   Since Jennie healing work these things have vanished. I feel so much better in my body, soul, and mind" ~ Margaret M., Mooresville, NC USA     “I was not aware that I was carrying around so many spirits.” "Jenny Ngo, has identified many dark entities and spirits and is closely working to dissipate them from my auric field. The most interesting aspect of this team work was that I was not aware that I was carrying around so many spirits.   From time to time, I would see spirits, though mostly around other people and in other situations. When Jenny pointed out to me that I had my very own contingency of spirits and that their purpose was to feed off of my energy and we worked together as she dispelled them, I felt freer, happier and more content.   Using Jenny’s MP3 has helped to stabilize the energy around me, and is a very entertaining experience. I would strongly recommend a session or more with Jenny, as in a session with her as well as MP3, you can take over and keep your auric field clear." ~ H. Lydia Davis: "New Year's Resolution" Retro Movie Review: Beat Girl Paul, a divorced architect, marries Nichole, a woman from Paris. His teen daughter Jenny has fallen in with the English beatnik scene and likes to hang out in cave-like clubs to listen to jazz and rudimentary rock'n'roll. Jenny takes an immediate dislike to her mother-in-law, who is not that much older than she, and goes out of her way to make life miserable for Nichole. When Jenny discovers that Nichole is a friend of one of the strippers from the dance hall across the street, she investigates and uses Nichole's sordid past to embarrass her father.
