In episode 278 of the podcast, we're joined by prolific drummer, and all around awesome guy, Jay Weinberg. We dig into all kinds of different territory with Jay. Touring with Suicidal Tendencies in support of the almighty Metallica, going from playing the massive stage to the club scene in the same week, how he approaches writing/playing as a new member of a band, how playing with Bruce Springsteen in place of his dad Max helped to shape his view of family, music, and so much more. Jay rules, and this convo was a blast. Keep an eye out for Jay's drum clinics, playing King Gizzard's ‘Field of Vision' in August, and new music he's working on. We dig into all of that here as well.Photo Credit: Carly Butler (IG: @ylracbutler)Follow Jay here: Web: https://www.jayweinbergofficial.com/IG: @jayweinbergPodcast theme performed by Trawl. Joe Nunnik, a comedian with a new special out titled Keep The Change, is on the pod this week! Recording right after the Fourth of July weekend, the boys reflect on why vacations are never relaxing—and how staycations might be the move. Talking celebrity fandom, Drago recalls a New Jersey man he knew growing up who took a candid photo of Bruce Springsteen in public, then framed it and put it on his wall. Is there any greater fandom than a Jersey man's love for The Boss? Coming from Kansas City, Joe talks about the comedy pipeline between KC and Chicago and how hot Midwestern women end up with average-looking Midwestern men. The boys also get into their smash burger conspiracy theories and how TikTok is ruining your favorite coffee spots. It’s a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Live Aid! Live Aid was grand in scope and ambition. It was largely the brainchild of an unlikely hero, Bob Geldof, the Irish singer who fronted The Boomtown Rats, and who had helped assemble the all-star cast of Band Aid. Watched by 1.5 billion people, Live Aid eventually raised $127 US million for famine relief in Africa. But beyond that, Live Aid was also a cultural touchstone that showed the power of pop music and the determination of millions of people to make a difference in the world. Hours before the event took place, Christopher Ward had a chat with organizer Bob Geldof, who, in his intense way, told of the importance of Live Aid. He disputes the cultural significance in favour of the pragmatic view of delivering much needed aid to African famine relief. It’s an extraordinary interview with a man who is firing on all cylinders, almost to the breaking point. And of course, we also talk about the music, including: Although Geldof didn’t want them in the lineup, Freddie Mercury and the band provided the most memorable 22 minutes of the day, perhaps the best ever performance in music history. U2 – We have the full story of why they played only two songs that day… and how it became a major moment on their road to superstardom. David Bowie’s set was also memorable. But he almost didn’t play that day. And it was all because of a CBC report on the famine. We have the full story. Duran Duran. Simon LeBon made a considerable gaffe during one of their songs. He considers it the most embarrassing moment of his career. Led Zeppelin - why Jimmy Page blamed Phil Collins for Zeppelin’s less than perfect performance. There were also a number of artists who chose not to perform that day, including Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Prince, Culture Club and Huey Lewis. At least two of those acts regretted that decision. And we talk about the importance of Live Aid as a cultural milestone. Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville. It is in the Top 20% of worldwide podcasts based on the number of listeners in the first week.

Reageren? It's a classic episode of Baxie's Musical Podcast with guitar legend Carlos Alomar from June of 2023! From 1974 to 2003 Carlos Alomar was the longest serving band member during David Bowie's historic career. He served as one of the key members of Bowie's infamous D.A.M. rhythm section--playing during the most artistically power stretch of his career. But that's not all. Carlos has played on more than 30 different gold or platinum albums with an enormous resume that includes names like James Brown, Chuck Berry, Bruce Springsteen, Duran Duran, Alicia Keyes, Iggy Pop, Luther Vandross, The Pretenders, Simple Minds (featuring his wife Robin Clark), Ben E. Bruce Springsteen was keenly aware and excited by the sounds of the CBGBs scene during the Seventies. With his own bands, the Boss performed in the same venues associated with punk rock and ultimately wrote songs for Patti Smith and the Ramones. Yet Springsteen's sound has remained distinct from punk rock as it emanated from New York. In the seventh episode of Soundscapes NYC, host Ryan Purcell talks with Bruce Springsteen biographer Jim Cullen and Melissa Ziobro the head curator of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University about Springsteen's complicated relationship with punk rock in 1970s New York. As an NJ native, the Boss was a so-called “Bridge-and-Tunnel-Boy” but that socio-cultural infrastructure worked both ways. By the end of the Seventies, Springsteen did not need to travel to New York to engage with the punk sound. Punk culture was traveling to Asbury Park, NJ. Jim Cullen is a historian of American popular culture and has taught at several colleges and universities, including Harvard, Brown, and Sarah Lawrence College. He was a longtime faculty member and History Department chair at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York before moving to the recently founded Greenwich Country Day School in 2020. Cullen is the author of multiple award-winning book books on music including Born in the USA: Bruce Springsteen and the American Tradition (Harper Collins, 1997). His latest book, Bridge and Tunnel Boys: Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Metropolitan Sound of the American Century (Rutgers University, 2023), compares the musical careers of Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. Melissa Ziobro is a Professor of Public History at Monmouth University where she is currently the Head Curator for the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music. Former editor of New Jersey Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, Ziobro is deeply committed to documenting New Jersey history with the broader context of the American story. She curated a traveling exhibition called Music America: Iconic Objects from America's Music History which is now on display at the Grammy Museum in Mississippi and is expected to return to Monmouth University for the opening of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music in Spring 2026. Episode 344 of RevolutionZ begins with some reflections on Zohran Mamdani's inspiring electoral win. How? By his campaign mobilizing an astonishing 50,000 volunteers. How? By he and his campaign feeling real and honest, and by offering real and meaningful vision. By electoral politics and grassroots activism becoming a mutual aid tag team rather than competing opponents. The episode then moves from Gaza's gut wrenching fascistic horrors to our own American "Twilight Zone" reality that seeks to entrench fascistic tendencies as normal life. The episode then takes a break from its usual patterns to look at some music, some lyrics, hoping to find some clarity, courage, and, well, dignity. Hoping to find some potential sources for an emerging new youth culture which is something that we all, young and older alike, profoundly need to create, experience, and embrace. Bruce Springsteen's "Youngstown" documents capitalism's broken promises. His "The Ghost of Tom Joad" reminds our moral obligations. But mainly the episoode hopes to introduce and propel some some emerging voices of today, not only old ones from yesterday. We hear Jesse Wells' and Carsey Blanton's unflinching and yet also moving and eloquent lyrics that directly confront power. "Rich people been fucking us all." Back not too long, we re-surface Iris DeMent's "Wasteland of the Free" and Bob Dylan's "Gates of Eden" and "Dignity." The point of it all is to celebrate how artists have long conveyed a vocabulary of resistance that we desperately need today.I hope the songs whose lyrics I offer reveal that cultural resistance isn't separate from political action—it's an essential aid. It helps us imagine and create more just futures. Even more, it can help establish a mood, a disposition, aspirations, and confidence in the face of deadly hate. In the coming months of defense and then in coming years of positive gain, we will need to disobey authoritarianism, eliminate ecological nightmare, and reduce staggering inequality. We will need to entrench in their place self managed participation, productive and ecological sanity, and real soli;darity and equity. I hope the lyrics in this episode and others that you go on to find, to sing, and to hear, music and all, can help provide the rebellious soundtrack for our necessary actions. When I was a child we had that. The culture around us propelled us. We didn't win all we needed to, but some. Now new generations have to prevent the elimination of all that and, more, have to expand the victory vastly further. I hope artists and their audiences do their part to help propel all that. It ought to come naturally.Support the show

In the late seventies, Studio 54 was the place to be for musicians and celebrities alike. John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and others all famously hung out at the notorious club where hedonism was part of the venue's allure. The success of Studio 54 was sudden and massive, resulting in mountains of cash, cocaine, jealousy, revenge, an FBI raid, and an ironic ending for one of its owners. We welcome back comedian, author, and former Chelsea Lately star Sarah Colonna for a no-holds-barred Part 2. From influencer lists to psychic warnings, nothing's off-limits. We start by comparing notes on being left out of influencer trips while Sarah confesses, she just came back for another coffee reading. “I just wanted a second opinion,” she laughs. The gang dives into “Haute Topics,” debating Kelsey Grammer welcoming baby number eight at 70. We react to The Chrisleys pardoned by Trump after stealing millions. “How do they get picked over people in for petty crimes?” Sarah wonders. Patrik sums it up: “Best friends with the president.” Next, we rave about Jeremy Allen White (Sarah's Shameless co-star) starring as Bruce Springsteen in a new biopic. Sarah shares she met him at table reads and jokes she wants to cameo as Courtney Cox in the “Dancing in the Dark” video. They debate whether Jeremy can sing or not. On Runway Rundown, the critiques get spicy. Chelsea Handler's silver strapless gown draws mixed reviews—Patrik calls it “prom 1975,” while Sarah defends her ex-boss: “I think it looks good on her!” Elsa Hosk's sheer, couture Cannes gown blows them away: “This is the definition of slay.” Kristen Stewart's cream shorts suit sparks debate over proportions and those controversial bobby socks. When Sarah's own red satin top appears on screen, Patrik calls it “Halloween gone bad.” She promises never to wear it again. In between fashion roasts, they commiserate over self-tape auditions. Patrik groans about taping for parts like crack dealers, plastic-surgery addicts, and porn-star managers. Sarah admits she prefers professional taping studios because filming with her husband is “a recipe for divorce.” Then it's time for Pol's coffee reading—Sarah's main reason for showing up again. He sees: A person close to her (with a “J” in the name) who pretends to be supportive but is actually jealous and waiting for the right moment to sabotage her. A project she's put aside that will unite her stand-up, writing, and acting—her real path forward. A future trip that will be canceled, and she shouldn't force it (“You'll find out later you weren't supposed to go.”). Sarah looks stunned: “I think I know who this is.” They play a game of “Sarah Colonna: Chelsea Lately or Football Wife?” recalling whether she ever flashed an audience (she didn't), spilled a drink on the owner's shoes (also didn't), or got mistaken for a cheerleader (sadly, no). They giggle about Snow White 90210 being called “Little Thunder” at football games. Sarah shares memories of her worst commercial—a Home Depot ad shot near the airport with no AC. “They were mad I was sweating in July!” she recalls. They laugh about how she still does self-tapes, though she'd rather be in the room getting feedback. Wrapping up, Sarah talks about her live shows in Oregon, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Tacoma, and Spokane. She plugs her podcasts: Are You My Podcast with Mary Radzinski The Book Lisp with her husband Jon (“It's about books—and our lisp!”) We end with Sarah declaring she feels “naked and afraid—in the best way.” This is another Hurrdat Media Production. In July 2011 (14 years ago as I write this), I recorded episode 1 of Love That Album podcast. The period wasn't ground zero for podcasts, but it was still early days, and people were still asking, “What's a podcast?” At the time, there seemed to be very little in the way of music discussion shows, so I decided to create one of my own to talk about music in the same way film podcasters of the time that I enjoyed discussed films. So.....ahh....welcome to episode 1 of Love That Album – Redux. I asked Melbourne music journalist Jeff Jenkins to join me, and we had a debate over which was the better Bruce Springsteen album: The Wild, The Innocent & The E-Street Shuffle or Darkness On The Edge of Town. Lengthy and poetic songs versus short and concise ones. I thought the conversation was good, but I didn't even use a proper microphone, so the sound quality was awful. I used the laptop mic and we had all the ambient noise of the room. I didn't do any editing to speak of. It's a mess. BUT I enjoyed the conversation and the process of podcasting. It meant that I had a regular means of speaking to interesting people about music...something I didn't have in my daily life – at least not to the extent I wanted. So, here we are in the mess of planet Earth in 2025. In recent times, software has been developed to clean up audio in a way we couldn't imagine. It's not just available for the likes of Peter Jackson. I had the idea to see what would happen if I ran episode 1 through the software....and to my amazement, Jeff and I sounded like we were in a proper studio with decent mics. So, following that revelation, I decided to edit the show in the same fashion I've been doing over the last few years, and put it out there for you to listen to. I thought for 5 minutes of going back to all the early episodes whose editing and sound quality grate on my nerves, but my son convinced me otherwise. He said, “don't do a George Lucas....the show evolved, and you don't want to deny its history”. I thought about it and realised he was 100% right. So what you have here is one of two episodes I'm giving the cleaning-up treatment to (the other one will be out sometime later this year).....everything otherwise stays up as it is – even the original episode 1. This is here just as an exercise on what the start could have been in 2011. Podcasting was still the domain of mostly people like me with the passion to present ideas, but without any ideas as to how to present them. I'm proud of how it started and where the show has gone. Tune in if you've never heard the episode before....or even if you have and felt pity for my approach. If you've been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on iTunes and let your friends know that our show exists. If you don't enjoy the show, tell your adversaries to tune in. We don't care who listens..... Love That Album is proudly part of the Pantheon Network of music podcasts.
