Why do we often push ourselves to fit into black-and-white thinking, even when life is full of grey areas? Sandra Wigg is an author, coach, and lifelong learner who believes in the power of ‘grey thinking'—seeing beyond absolutes and letting go of the pressure to always have things figured out. Her journey from a science-driven career in geology to coaching and writing is shaped by years of learning to trust herself, especially when facing life's toughest challenges. In our chat, Sandra and I dig into topics like the role of external validation and how it holds us back, why high achievers often burn out, and what it really means to build confidence from within. We talk about the lessons Sandra took from her work with high-performance athletes and how she uses them now to help others find purpose, peace, and perspective. This episode explores how shifting from ‘right or wrong' to a more balanced view can open up possibilities in our lives. This week we are joined by Rob Wigg of From Barrel To Bottle. Founded in December 2017 by four friends, From Barrel To Bottle's Creative Director, Erik, was contracted by a whisky company for images of their bottle in the mountains. After delivering these images and looking around online, Erik realized there was a major gap in the market. He proposed that the group of four friends start reaching out to other brands with examples of their work and companies were thrilled! Slowly, From Barrel To Bottle began learning more about whisky and the industry, and they started pushing their creativity to find new ways to capture the beauty of whiskey. The From Barrel To Bottle team traveled to Scotland and fell in love with whiskey and the people and processes behind it. As their knowledge of whiskey grew, they were able to produce better and better content and started working with more and more brands on bigger and bigger projects. By 2020, the From Barrel To Bottle team had been all over North America and Scotland helping brands create world class content, and they had built a strong following on Instagram of whisky enthusiasts. They started shifting a lot of their production to videography. Now in 2023 a large part of what From Barrel To Bottle do is create commercial quality videos for product launches, brand refreshes, and advertising. "I have developed a successful Foundational Life Coaching philosophy that focuses on the effects of external performance-based approval. Equally important is shifting from always thinking in black and white absolutes to non-judgmental Grey thinking. All these concepts have come together in my new book titled The Power of Grey Thinking—Elevate Your Perspective, Elevate Your Life. I have learned powerful lessons from my mistakes that have allowed me to see the challenges of others through the eyes of experience, empathy, and understanding. Part of life is stepping into the unknown and taking risks. I have found that people gain greater purpose by being vulnerable, honest, and opening their hearts to others. I treasure the lessons I've learned and enjoy teaching them to others on their path of personal growth."

She also embraces all of her personal spiritual experiences from her Pentecostal roots to her own fresh transformational mysticism with deep roots in theological tradition. Inga's latest novel is The Last Woman in the World and it takes us to a place both familiar and shockingly different.Rachel leads a reclusive life on the land. She has an art studio where she blows exquisite collectors pieces. Her daily needs are delivered to her and the isolation is both a boon and a protection from a world that has become too overwhelming.Rachel has cut herself from the daily news cycle of fire, flood and disease. It's an unchanging litany of destruction that she cannot bear and while the world seemed hellbent on destruction she didn't expect anything to suddenly change.Rachel is content in her isolation until one night a young mother and her child come knocking. They shouldn't be there and their mere presence shatters Rachel's peace. When Hannah reveals they are on the run that it is all gone, Rachel realises the world has seemingly self-destructed…First off I'd say that Rachel's retreat may seem very familiar to all of us who have experienced lockdown recently. It surprised me a little when I interviewed INga that this story came from before Covid and was seeking to explore the destruction of the fires as much as any pandemic chaos.Rachel and Hannah must somehow come together to save Hannah's baby Isaiah who is sick and far from medical help.As the three venture out into the world they find the landscape of the high country relatively untouched. It is only when they are around populated areas that they feel the true horror of what the world has become. When I spoke with Inga Simpson for this week's Final Draft she told me about the pleasure of the unseen and its ability to truly terrify us by reflecting our own fears…Inga Simpson's The Last Women in the World is many things. The untouched landscapes of the early novel are something of a travelogue for the Snowies and set up a strange state of calm. Rachel's unfolding story offers insight into the toll the world can have on our mental health. As we approach the towns though the true horror emerges and grips the reader with the terror of unknown possibilityBut perhaps it is in showing us a world that may just be that the Last Woman in the World serves as a warning and an opportunity to glimpse how close we have come to catastrophe.
