We've got more zombie movie talk! As the tournament rolls on, the Madmen must vote out either The Beyond or Wyrmwood: Apocalypse. Do we keep Cemetery Man or Deadgirl? Each movie has its merits…
Wyrmwood Apocalypse is a brainless zombie horror from 2021 that features most of the same characters as the original Wyrmwood film. Set in the near future, this dystopian terror, is different than other films in this genre as of late due to the fact that it uses mostly practical effects for the savage amusement of the fans. Even though many of the original fans were critical of this hack and slash due to them lessening the slapstick element it still manages to entertain. The films main character is a paid for hire mercenary who hunts outlaws, zombies and hybrids. He is forced to make a difficult choice as his employer is doing experiments on hybrid zombies and humans to further their agenda. Starring Luke McKenzie as Rhys, Nicholas Boshier as the Surgeon General, Shantae Barnes-Cowan as Maxi, Bianca Bradey as Brooke and Tasia Aziar as Grace. This film is the brainchild of Kiah Roache-Turner.

Now that the dust has settled from Halloween, it's time for the Eighth Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, where your intrepid host, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, discusses Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (2022), sequel to “Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead” (2014), which Dr. Bishop previously reviewed here in Episode 025. Dr. Walking Dead discusses how this sequel serves as a follow-up to its predecessor. He also provides some clarification about a recurring actor who is NOT a recurring character. Kyle gets excited about this film's “cyborg zombies,” and he also talks about the lesser-known, 7-minute short film, “Wyrmwood: Chronicles of the Dead (2017),” which occurs between the feature-length films, “Road of the Dead” and “Apocalypse.” As always, Dr. Bishop delivers a great review! Don't miss it! Notes: This episode includes some spoilers for both Wyrmwood films. And to view ALL of Dr. Bishop's Dead Man Still Walking solocast episodes can USE THIS LINK. In this bumper episode Mike, Rich and Steve tackle seven new films! We kick off with HELL HATH NO FURY, directed by the one and only Jesse V Johnson. We've been waiting with baited breath for this one, so does it live up to the hype?? Next is THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR, a film curated from the SHUDDER streaming service, and does a good job of upholding its reputation for quality horror! Steve Lawson is a director we have a lot of time for, and we review his latest period action/drama, THE HIGHWAYMAN... The Australian brothers Tristan and Kiah Roach-Turner crafted a love-letter to both Mad Max and zombie movies with their first film Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead. Seven years later they have produced the next chapter in the bloody WYRMWOOD: APOCALYPSE. THE NEXT GIRL is a hallucinatory trip of a film which split opinions - check out our review in the episode! THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN is a dramatic retelling of the true-life tragedy which befell an elderly person when police are dispatched to provide medical assistance. and in FAYE, actress Sarah Zanotti has to carry the whole film as she is the only one in it! Our Short Shot is the excellent TWISTING TIGER, which would make an great pairing with Paper Tigers! Click the link to watch the whole 30 min film! Danny is off doing Danny things, so this week it is just a Gruesome Twosome. We start off with a talk about the upcoming Cannes Film Festival and the surprising news of a Tom Cruise career retrospect and the World Premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. This leads to an incredibly long conversation about Cruise's career while we all but ignore some of the big movie news coming out of the Fest. We also talk about where The Sadness is headed next. The Sadness is not the only zombie movie we talk about. Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is an Australian zombie action movie that seems simple on paper (and frankly is, in practice) but still gave us a lot to talk about. We have all seen zombies experimented on, but have they ever been toyed with and demeaned to such a degree? There is also a whole lot of gore and the Aussie film fascination with vehicles continues. The Cellar was a pleasant surprise from South by Southwest. It is a classic haunted house story with a fun twist. During SXSW we talked to stars Elisha Cuthbert and Eion Macken, along with writer-director Brendan Muldowney. We talk about atmospheric scares, Irish folklore, and come up with a great idea for a shirt. With a cast that includes Dennis Hopper and Stephen Dorf, a cool premise, and director Stuart Gordon, Space Truckers sounded like it had all the ingredients of an awesome movie. Our first clue that it isn't should have been the fact that neither of us had ever heard of it. For everything it does right (and there is a lot), it does just as much wrong. Rhys lives in the zombie-infested wasteland. His job is to capture civilians and deliver them to what's left of the military. When Rhys captures a half-zombie-half-human named Grace, he comes to believe she is the key to ending the apocalypse. The latest feature from Australian filmmaking brother duo Kiah Roache-Turner and Tristan Roache-Turner, whose previous collaborations include their breakout feature debut WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD, which premiered at the 2014 Fantastic Fest and put them on the map internationally for their creative use of low-budget gore and highly effective horrific story, and the 2018 TIFF Midnight Madness premiere NEKROTRONIC. The two share co-writing credits while Kiah handles direction with energetic ease and Tristan produces. With a mix of new and familiar faces from the creative worlds of the Roache-Turner brothers , WYRMWOOD: APOCALYPSE stars Luke McKenzie (Wentworth, WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD), Bianca Bradey (WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD), Shantae Barnes-Cowan (Total Control), Tasia Zalar (Mystery Road), Jay Gallagher (WYRMWOOD: ROAD OF THE DEAD, NEKROTRONIC), and Nicholas Boshier (Soul Mates). Tonight we're chatting with Kiah Roache-Turner, director of Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, out in digital in the US April 14. Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner and produced by Tristan Roache-Turner, and co-written by the two, the film is a sequel to the 2015 breakout hit Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, and it follows the character Rhys as he realizes the life he's been living in a zombie-infested wasteland has been a lie, and instead of helping to find a cure for the virus he's been helping a mad man destroy lives — but after he captures a mysterious half-human half-zombie he may actually be able to save his world for real.
