HORROR WITH SIR. STURDY EPISODE 513
HORROR WITH SIR. STURDY EPISODE 514 EVIL DEAD TRAP 2: THE HORROR CONTINUES
Mother's Day (1980), Madman (1981), Pieces (1982), and Evil Dead Trap (1988) When you're talking about horror films with most non-horror fans, they usually are thinking about the slashers which they seem to encapsule all of that genre. But when us fans start to dig into that sub-genre, that's when the questions arise, parameters seemed like they have to set, even though plenty of the films go out of their way to beyond said parameters. As if any were meant to stay between the lines! Then you start to delve into when the sub-genre started, which can then start another round of questions and discussions. To help get those arguments . . . we mean discussions started, in this episode we're going to cover 4 different slasher films, granted, of varying types, but we feel still fits into the category of slasher films. And to help with this, we've invited Aaron Crowell, Managing Editor of HorrorHound Magazine back to join in the conversation. This week, the boys spend as much time talking about the film as Beetlejuice features in it's movie! "Evil Dead Trap," directed by Toshiharu Ikeda and released in 1988, is a Japanese horror film that combines elements of slasher and supernatural horror. The story follows a television crew investigating a mysterious broadcast signal when they stumble upon an abandoned factory. Intrigued by the prospect of uncovering a scoop, they venture inside, only to become trapped and hunted by a sadistic killer. As the crew members fall victim to a series of gruesome and inexplicable deaths, the film unfolds with a relentless and macabre intensity, blurring the lines between reality and nightmare. What sets "Evil Dead Trap" apart is its visceral and unflinching approach to horror, punctuated by shocking imagery and inventive kills. The film's dark and atmospheric cinematography, coupled with its eerie score, creates an unsettling and claustrophobic ambiance that keeps viewers on edge throughout. "Evil Dead Trap" is notable for its graphic violence and surrealistic elements, drawing inspiration from both Japanese and Western horror traditions. Despite its initial controversy and censorship issues, the film has since garnered a cult following among horror enthusiasts, cementing its status as a cult classic of Japanese horror cinema. For this episode, I am looking at two stories that involve snuff films: EVIL DEAD TRAP from Japan and THESIS / TESIS from Spain.Neither makes a whole lot of sense, but each has its brilliant charms. The kills in EVIL DEAD TRAP are great and the plot takes a serious left turn in the third act. THESIS is one of my favorite films despite some of the annoying plot holes. Everyone is a joy to behold, especially Fele Martinez, who, along with Eduardo Noriega appears in ABRE LOS OJOS, also directed by Alejandro Amenabar.Coming up next is our show about writers, as it appears our Tech Horror Ep. may have been reclaimed by the gods of the Internet. We looked at IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS and BURNING.Coming up, we have some wonderful shows with guests planned. Comfortilms Podcast will join us to talk THE WAGES OF FEAR & SORCEROR and Stefan MacDonald, From Drag Mitch to Hell will join us to talk VIDEODROME for its 40th anniversary! We will be watching WENDELL & WILD and THE UNICORN WARS next, and speaking of Amenabar, after that, THE OTHERS & POLTERGEIST.Be good and be good to each other. There were Japanese horror movies made in the 1980s? Yes, it's true. Not all Japanese horror comes from the late 90s and early 2000s. Let's find out what Japanese filmmakers were doing with horror late in the decade, as we put a wrap on the Summer of the 80s! There's no Bruce Campbell anywhere in sight. And Sam Raimi did not direct this. We also did not see Ted Raimi around anywhere! Okay, so the U.S. title may be a little misleading. But hey, when you work in late night television, and you put out a request for viewers to send in tapes, you have to expect that you'll receive some interesting material. Is that a legitimate snuff film, though? Well, I guess that we as the viewers had better investigate with this team from the studio. But I'm afraid that we all might just end up falling into the Evil Dead Trap (1988)!Is this the Japanese equivalent of Eraserhead? I guess, maybe. Back in the 90s, this kind of became an endurance test, an instant cult movie making the rounds on VHS among friends, if you could find it in the local video store. An endurance test? But it's only an hour and seven minutes, you say. The runtime may not be long, but let's just say that the violence and subject matter can make this an overwhelming experience for some. Get ready for the polarizing, experimental metal fetish extravaganza, Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)!And then from there, we may as well close out the decade with the Common Craig's Top 5 Horror Movies from 1988 and 1989!

This week the Bloodfest goons hung out with Morbid Lydia to break down Evil Dead Trap and Hideki: Evil Dead Trap 2. They tried like hell to understand these bonkers, gory, weird films. Nate had some, lets say "interesting" ideas about the themes and subtext. The crew also announced some major news about what's coming in the future. We find ourselves back in 1988 again for this "Evil Deaduary" episode. We look at a slasher film with a super natural twist. Find out why the crew thinks this film both was influence by horror films of the past AND influenced many horror films to come after it. We talk about the awkard sex scenes, all too realistic special F/X and more. Check it out now. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spoilerroompodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spoilerroompodcast/support

October means its another spooky season here at KT with another month full of horror movie podcasts to give you the chills. This time Byrd and Matt are joined by guest hosts Trev (Failure To Franchise and Days of Future Podcast) and Tom (Final Forum Dragonball Podcast) to talk about two gruesome Japanese shockers, Evil Dead Traps 1 and 2. Evil Dead Trap is a gory slasher about reporters investigating a snuff film who get picked off one by one by a maniacal killer. The movie (directed by exploitation director Toshiharu Ikeda) features a truly wild plot twist, as well as great practical effects by a very young Shinichi Wakasa (monster maker for many of the Godzilla films). Evil Dead Trap 2 was directed by Izo Hashimoto (co-writer of Akira) and co written by Chiaki Konaka (Ultraman Gaia, Marebito, The Big O) and follows a female projectionist who realizes she may be a serial killer who is hunting down young women. So how did these cult classics hold up for us? Listen and find out!

Hey horror fans! This week on The Horror Hosts featuring Jess and Tex we talk about the 1988 Japanese slasher film, Evil Dead Trap. A late night TV host receives what appears to be a home snuff film and decides to investigate the location. She and her coworkers go to an abandoned factory and try to find evidence of the crime or hoax. One by one, they die in gruesome ways to traps laid by a costumed character. Will the terrified television team take on the terrible tribulation, or will the targets be terminated? Is it bad to leave your hookup hanging? Listen and find out! This episode was also live streamed at twitch.tv/commonspacegc, join us for live Q&A!
It's a trap, maniacs! Grab a hamburger and jump in the news van with us as we travel to Japan to discuss 1988's Evil Dead Trap. Joining us this week is special guest Adam Bailey from the Pittsburgh grindcore band Narakah. As the four of us discuss the flick, we chat about other topics such as wearing sandals in a dirty wet warehouse, vintage coffee dispensers, and the brutality of this film's villain who we dub Ponchoman. Stick around for a big helping of Maniac Feedback at the end of the episode!
Not that Evil Dead. Easy mistake! In this 1988 slasher, we'll creep into an empty Air Force base, with an intrepid film crew, to search for the source of Japan's Deadliest Home Video. Bob Saget never did this kind of legwork!
On this episode, we talk to horror author Lucas Mangum about 1988's Evil Dead Trap, a movie that is equal parts giallo slasher, urban exploration, and gory monster movie. We talk eye stabbing, unsettling music, and a new definition of sleaze that posits the idea that a truly sleazy movie/book has an innocence to it. The truly creepy shit doesn't know that it's creepy...it thinks that it's fun! Buy Digital Darkness here.
The squad gets sent a snuff film and they investigate further as they review Toshiharu Ikeda's “Evil Dead Trap”. We talk about how Justin is a language connoisseur, how Hideki can seemingly impregnate himself into people, and the gang have a quick chat about a porn pioneer. Spoilers in the womb.
WARNING: MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. UNDER 17 REQUIRES ADULT SUPERVISION. We're back with a BANGER this week! We LOVE this fucking movie and we're going to have a BLAST talking about it! It's the very 88th episode of Forsaken Cinema Podcast! Anthology April is upon us!!! That's right - all April will be all anthology movies all the time!! And to kick it off, we're talking about 1975's “Trilogy of Terror” starring Karen Black in all 3 segments. This made for TV film clocks in at only an hour and 12 minutes, so we're not sure how this episode turned out to be almost 2 hours. Probably because this may possibly be the most “Forsaken Cinema” Forsaken Cinema episode ever. I hope that made sense. Schlocktober has come early this year, Junkies! We try to forget all about COVID, wildfires and the world's ills by binging 3 movies picked by our friends on Patreon. First, vacationing snow bunnies are stalked by a madman in the early '80s proto-slasher, Satan's Blade. Next, journalists look for a scummy snuff film's origins in "Evil Dead Trap." Finally, a boring detective investigates the strange case of Charles Dexter Ward in "The Resurrected." All this plus Nerd News, anti-Star Trek rants, pro Dr. Who rants, fire side chats, DVDs, the best movies of the 80s and so much more! Donloyd Here

Join your friends, Marco and Paul, as we try to live through an evil dead trap house. Since we aren't the sole survivor type, we brought Devon and Dylan from Horrorble Podcast, to check out the place with us. Paul has been a long time listener of Horrorble Podcast and asked for 2 of the boys to pick out some hidden gems they dug up while reviewing 3 movies a week for many years. The brought us 2 hard to find ones, Sole Survivor (1984) and Evil Dead Trap (1988). It was a real treat to mix it up with these guys and we know it won't be the last you hear of them on this show! Evil Dead Trap is one of the best horror movies we've seen. Its composition is so well throughout, shot by shot and as a whole, this film is technically very sound. With a healthy amount of references to the horror greats that preceded it, along with the excellent manipulation of tension and release, you can tell these guys really love horror.

ou asked for it. So we delivered. MORE weird Asian flicks. We invited our friend Don Anelli from the Horror Mafia Podcast to help us digest and upack these flicks from the 80s. They may be a little deeper cuts into the genre than normal. This week we talk about the psychedelic adventure ride from hell called “The Boxers Omen”. Existensial horror at its best? This one blew our minds as it's trippy gore splattered our eyes. Next we talk about the gore soaked “Evil Dead Trap”. No, not an unofficial sequel to Evil Dead. It's another sort of existensial horror movies that a conjoined twin kills off a camera crew one by one. Have you seen these? Well buckle up and get ready for us to tell you all about them. We save the spoilers for last. 152) Evil Dead Trap (1988)
Ah, Asian horror… With its technicolor lighting and Goblin-esque scores, the brutal killings, the maggots on the ceilings… Hey, wait a second! That doesn’t sound like Asian horror at all! And that’s just what makes 1988’s Evil Dead Trap such an oddball piece of cinema. The movie director Toshiharu Ikeda swears was not influenced by countless giallo movies is a weird blend of classic horror tropes, but through the eyes of a director who spent much of his career in Japan’s Pink subgenre. Along with Hello! This is the Doomed Show!‘s Richard Glenn Schmidt, we get into the wonderful highs and genuinely disturbing lows, and still have no answers for the ball gag guy. Also, a very brief history of Japan’s Pink cinema! Let’s head into the definitely NOT Italian-inspired mayhem of Evil Dead Trap! Thanks again to my partner in Tomie-related crime, Richard Glenn Schmidt! You can find more from Richard at Doomed Moviethon and catch his books Cinema Somnambulist and Giallo Meltdown! Yay!
