LeGarrette Blount always had dreams of playing on the big stage. Scoring TDs. Championships. Parades. Repeat. Taking the junior college route, Blount transferred to Oregon out of East Mississippi Community College and immediately made an impact on the program, setting the school's single season rushing TD record in his first year at Eugene. Blount's senior season was tumultuous to say the least, but that didn't stop the big man from making it to the NFL and embarking on a nine-year career as a pro, where he would hoist the Lombardi Trophy three times before retiring in 2020. Now a businessman and entrepreneur, Blount is taking those hard lessons learned on the field and applying them to his next phase of life off the gridiron. This is the Mighty Oregon podcast and this is the former Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount…Champion Duck.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Locked On Ole Miss - Daily podcast on Ole Miss Rebels Football, Basketball & Baseball
Today's Locked on Ole Miss podcast we talk about Ole Miss Rebels transfer portal haul for Lane Kiffin and look at who will be the most impactful of the transfers on the 2024 season. We start with Princely Umanmielen a player rated as potentially the best Pass Rusher in the country from the Florida Gators. We look at him being the beneficiary of all the attention Walter Nolen is going to get. Chris Paul transferred from the Arkansas Razorbacks and will be another front seven beneficiary of Nolen. A Butkus Award watchlist player a year ago Paul could be primed to go off. In the second segment of the show we continue to talk about the Top 5 most impactful players from this transfer portal cycle and Pete Golding is the big winner early on the list. Trey Amos from the Alabama Crimson Tide is the next name and he is a man coverage specialist who had his best game vs the Georgia Bulldogs last year. Walter Nolen makes the list but likely lower than you would expect because of the attention that other teams are going to put on this player. Make no mistake the Texas A&M Aggies transfer is likely the most important transfer even if his numbers say otherwise. Out final impact player is the first offensive player in South Carolina Gamecocks transfer Juice Wells. Well will have decent sized shoes to replace in Dayton Wade. In our final segment of the day we talk about Zavion Hardy from East Mississippi Community College and the fact that an offer to a JUCO player was released to early. In her new book, Next Chance You, Wagner offers a roadmap to move forward from where readers currently are in life. “We are all a product of our experiences, but none of us are stuck. We sometimes lack the courage or knowledge to move forward and create different,” Wagner says. “I want to inspire and equip people to believe in who they are and start from where they are to evolve, create and believe in something better. The starting line may be different for each of us, but none of us are operating on our 'last chance.' There is hope! LeGarrette Montez Blount was born December 5, 1986 in Madison, Florida to parents Gary and Barbara Blount. LeGarrette grew up with two siblings, a sister, Tareaka and a brother, Jontavian. Gary Blount had been a local high school football standout which led to LeGarrette’s pursuit of his own football dreams. At Terry County High School, LaGarrette was a two-sport athlete in football and track&field. LeGarrette would start in all four years of high school, while rushing for over 1,000 yards in every year in all but his freshmen year. LeGarrette was only considered as a 2-star recruit and was barely recruited out of high school. Happy Friday! It probably WOULD have been happier had it not been for the terribly uncomfortable news to start the show that the NFL won't suspend Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill. We did our best to move forward. Hey, the new season of Last Chance U is out today-what are the best sports TV shows of all time? We got into #DefinitivePowerRankings. Speaking of that, late in Hour 1, we checked in with Maryland native Kam Carter-a lifelong Ravens fan who was part of Season 1 of "Last Chance U" at East Mississippi Community College. We talked up his experience on the show and now getting ready for his senior season at Duquesne. Midway through Hour 2, Ironbirds OF/Orioles third round pick Zach Watson checked in to talk about the start of his pro career and his former USA Baseball teammate Adley Rutschman. Late in Hour 2, we chatted with legendary Showtime boxing analyst Al Bernstein to discuss next Saturday's Gervonta Davis/Ricardo Nunez fight at Royal Farms Arena.
From Caledonia, Mississippi Cody played baseball at East Mississippi Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State. He is currently working on His masters at MUW. Cody has been coaching for 4 years, and Is serving as the pitching/catching coach at MUW.

We also address an email inquiry: Hi DeShawn, I hope you're well. Just wanted to say I've enjoyed your last 2 podcasts on Last Chance U Season 3, which is by far my favorite season of the show. Will you be doing a separate podcast on each of the 8 episodes? I'm fascinated by sports performance and psychology and found Malik Henry's story particularly compelling. The podcast's breakdown of his behavior in the first 2 episodes make a lot of sense. Malik has all of the physical talents to be a star QB, but as you discussed, it seems he wasn't taught the discipline and mental toughness required to succeed and to cope with pressure and stress. It also seems that he was forced to choose football over baseball. At this point, he appears to still be unsigned and football season is about to start. I had a few questions for you (and maybe you'll cover this in the upcoming podcasts): What do you think are the options for someone in his position now? The show's portrayal of him didn't do him any favors and it seems most coaches would not want to take him on. He seems to have a lot of baggage. Is there any way he could make it back into a D1 school? How does he make a comeback from the last 2 years when his reputation has taken such a hit? How does he show coaches that he has developed the required mental toughness and discipline? Or maybe he switches to baseball? Is that even possible this "late" in the game? Thanks! Rain C.

I have a confession to make. I am the last person to subscribe to Netflix (at least it feels that way). I was getting ready for a family spring break trip. When traveling with our son, the question at night is always, "what are we going to do?". Not wanting to spend the exorbitant cost of pay-per-view movies at the hotel, I decided it was time to sign up for Netflix. So, I took advantage of the first month free offer and downloaded Netflix to my Amazon Fire TV Stick. Now, packing and preparing for our trip included adding some movies and shows to my watch list. One of the Netflix shows I had heard so much about and the first I had to watch was Last Chance U. As you probably know (it also feels like I'm the last person to watch it), Last Chance U is a Netflix docudrama about the football program at East Mississippi Community College. The program has been built around being a landing spot for many players who have been dismissed from Power Five programs, usually for academics or disciplinary reasons. The program has become a junior college (JUCO) football powerhouse, winning four national championships in the last seven seasons. While Last Chance U features the team's lightening rod coach, Buddy Stephens, and his players, many of whom are on their "last chance", another major personality of the show is Brittany Wagner, the then athletic academic counselor at East Mississippi. I knew right away I wanted to have Brittany on the podcast. For me, Brittany represented so many of the unsung individuals who are non-coaches but also play prominent roles in the lives of athletes. I have seen first hand the positive impact a caring counselor, teacher or principal can have on a young athlete's life. I knew her insight and experiences were something coaches and administrators listening to the podcast could find of value. In this candid conversation, Brittany and I discuss: What she has been up to and working on since her (spoiler alert) teary departure from East Mississippi in season two of the show Her personal career journey and how it, at times, mirrored those of the athletes she was working with The advantages women have in working with male athletes How past experiences African-American male athletes have with men in their lives and the impact they have on how they view men in positions of authority How coaches can strengthen their relationships with faculty and academic counselors The questions college coaches asked most when recruiting players at East Mississippi How JUCO programs can best prepare their athletes for success at four year programs The advantages of recruiting JUCO players Mentions in this episode Netflix Last Chance U East Mississippi Community College Mississippi State University Athletic Academic Support Services Connect With Brittany Wagner BrittanyWagner.com 10 Thousand Pencils LLC Sharpen Up Podcast - Apple Podcasts Brittany_MSgirl - Twitter Brittany_MSgirl - Instagram Connect with Odell McCants McCantsSports.com @odellmccants - Twitter Odell McCants - LinkedIn

“When you start winning, people start paying attention.” The MindSide Podcast struck gold this week as we brought on the star of the Netflix documentary, Last Chance U, founder of 10 Thousand Pencils, and nationwide inspiration leader, Brittany Wagner. Wagner has made a dent in the world of college athletics as she has turned her dream of impacting young athletes into a reality. In the show, Last Chance U, Brittany helped the football team of East Mississippi Community College become more than just a group of jocks who had no future other than football, "I had no expectations." Coming from a family with a psychologist as a father and a special education teacher as a mother, Brittany knew from her youth that she had a greater purpose. "This is what I was born to do." Inside this podcast, Wagner digs into the realities young athletes are faced with every day. She discusses how most college athletes are already given labels based on stereotypical judgement from their peers and even some authority figures. "These labels we place on these kids prohibits them from really figuring out their potential on their own." There is an underlining issue that is raised when these athletes are already told what path they "should" or "need" to go on to reach a society's definition of success. "I think we do a horrible job helping these athletes navigate the pressure of being a college athlete." Brittany compares a college football player's situation in Scuba, Mississippi, to a hypothetical situation where she is the one putting on the football gear in the locker room and then getting tackled on the field and feeling that shame and public humiliation that these kids must feel in the classroom. "They are unequipped." Wagner brings her own opinions on the educational deficiencies that these college athletes must climb past to reach success outside of the game. “We can teach them how to be true to themselves.” Brittany has started her own company, 10 Thousand Pencils to provide academic counseling services to student athletes everywhere. In this episode of Keep Moving Forward I interview collegiate athletic academic advisor, founder of 10000 Pencils, LLC, and breakout star of the Netflix Original Series, “Last Chance U”, Brittany Wagner. “When you follow your passions, doors open and you just fall into things.” Work hard every single day, walk through every door that is open to you, and seize every opportunity you can as you keep moving forward on your journey in pursuit of your passions. Brittany Wagner’s own story as well as the stories of the student athlete’s she has dedicated her life to helping, reflect this same narrative of progress. As an academic advisor at East Mississippi Community College, Brittany has helped too many student athletes realize their dreams and move onto Division I and professional programs, to count. After highlighting this university’s football program as well as Brittany’s impressive impact on the student athlete’s there in the Netflix original series, “Last Chance U”, Brittany’s fame exploded overnight. Her social media presence gained so much traction that she decided to use it as a platform to help more students than she ever anticipated she could. Recently, Brittany launched her very own academic athletic counseling service, 10000 Pencils, LLC, named from her signature phrase from the show “do you have a pencil?” Brittany’s company is taking off, as is her career as a public speaker and motivator of the student athlete. I learned so much from speaking with Brittany and I am excited for you to experience all the insight she has to offer. I hope that you all enjoy my interview with a woman who fosters the guidance and support every student athlete needs, Brittany Wagner.
