Here it is! At long last, the Sacred Valley 100 Mile Ultramarathon Rodeo roundup recap bonanza. My third attempt at this personal challenge of mine, for those who are new here. Another failed attempt, more great adventure. This third failure was a tough pill to swallow. I've finally choked it down. The episode is long...over 3.5 hours. It opens with a 30 minute introduction recorded by me alone, a month after the day of the run on June 11. The introduction is somewhat of a love letter. A little bit of heartbreak, and a little bit of hope. Mostly, I'm trying to explain the question I always get..."WHY? Why why why!!" Following my solo introduction, the episode transitions to a 3 hour conversation between Trevor and I. My good good buddy who made the trip to Peru to help me see this through. Troubled wazza brewing in the weeks and days leading up to the run, on the big day things didn't go how I envisioned almost from the very beginning and I let the curveballs get the best of me. The fallout from the run was equally as painful. Trevor and I try to move slow and steady, one foot in front of the other, and break the whole thing down. It's a hard pill to swallow, but the medicine is working. Trouble, trials, disappointment, agony, joy wonderment, awe, laughs, mind blowing, and bizarre....this Round 3 is one for the memory bank!!! Please enjoy the stories. Thank you for listening. And.............stay tuned for Round 4. PEACE!!!

Welcome back the Dustin, The Wind podcast! Thank you all for tuning in after a long hiatus. You've made a fantastic decision as we are joined this week by a special guest, a tough and gritty girl in the midst of her own grand adventure— I call her Olivia “In Bolivia” Grazziano. Olivia and I met in Pisac, Peru as she made a pit stop in the Sacred Valley and was caught in the valley's vortex, like countless other's (myself included), in a tale as old as time. Olivia has lived nomadically for the past 5 years in a camper van. She's currently trading the van life in to ride a bicycle 10,000 miles+ through South America from the tip of Chile back to the place she calls home, Colorado. She is also an avid climber, skier, and trail runner. Professionally, she started out as a humanitarian aid and documentary filmmaker for a production company based in Washington DC. This job took her around the world to Kenya where she lived with and documented the daily lives of the Maasai tribe and into the remote jungles of Cambodia to share the story of successful economic initiatives in communities devastated by the Khmer Rouge. Some other projects included interviewing the stories of refugees and going as an undercover video journalist to capture the aftermath of the Garissa University terror attack and Hong Kong Polytechnic University protests in 2019.  She also runs her own weddings film company called Wild of the Moon.Hop in the saddle, clip in (if that's your thing), grab a sip of water and rolllll with us through a little bit of South American bike packing adventure! Olivia shares stories from her bike packing adventure so far from Puerto Natales, Chili to Cusco, Peru-- trials and tribulations with aggressive dogs, a ride in a Chilean ambulance, trusting total strangers separated by a language barrier. She shares insights about the day in the life of a South American bike packer (and being a solo female traveler to boot!). How much ground does she ride in a typical day and how much time in the saddle does that translate to? What are her 5 essential pack items to survive such a journey? Where does she sleep, how does she filter water, what does she eat?So please...ENJOY this fun conversation between two fellow bike packers and avid travelers and WELCOME BACK to the Dustin, The Wind podcast!PEACE!

Welcome everyone to the Dustin, The Wind's second birthday party. Unfortunately, it's not much of a celebration. But I do share my thoughts on what I have learned through podcasting over the last two years. I talk about the value I've gotten out of expressing myself from wardrobes, to hairstyles, to podcasting. Putting myself out in the world. Having a voice. Having a style. I talk about what will happen with the podcast moving forward and what I will be up to moving forward. The pressure of having a girlfriend, wife, and "normal" life. My vision of tomorrow. Taking care of today. Unfinished business to be dealt with regarding the 100 mile run. The shift in my mind over the last few years away from Science as a God. My relationship with marijuana. Much love to all who have listened to the podcast for the last two years. It means a lot that you choose to tune in. This isn't the end, we are just changing lanes. PEACE!!!

#lawdhaveMercer This week I give a quick update on 75 semi-flaccid Hard after a long weekend of wedding-ing. I talk mostly about diets- bouncing back after long weekends, bouncing back after craving breakdowns, and always bouncing back to a healthy lifestyle. Diets are dumb, healthy lifestyles are better. (3 days heavy drinking at weddings is not healthy*). I also share exciting news regarding what is now known as the Bolivian Backpacker Series but will soon be known in book form by a different name. I hired a developmental editor to provide feedback on the first 5000 words of the draft and I was quite pleased her notes and look forward to a new stage of the process with fresh excitement.

On Wednesday morning (9/21), Armenia's Independence Day, I sat down with Sam to discuss* the state of Armenia and the events which took place last week in Armenia and Yerevan. Including attacks by Azerbaijan on sovereign Armenian land and a subsequent visit by Nancy Pelosi- the highest ranking US official to visit Armenia since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Sam was at Yerablur on Armenia's Independence and was detained by police as was every other civilian at the cemetery, many of whom were parents of fallen soldiers and were beaten and dragged off by the police in anticipation for PM Nikol Pashinyan's ceremonial visit to the cemetery. Some of you will remember Sam from his appearance on the podcast in 2020 after fighting in the 44 day war for Artsakh when we first met in Yerevan shortly after he returned from the front lines near Shushi. Welcome back, Sam (Dustin, The Wind's first guest nearly two years ago) and thank you for sharing your knowledge and opinions. **Mostly I listened while he talked and Sam and he did a wonderful job explaining the current events, the region's history, and his all around thoughts on Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. I had no idea what I was doing when I started this project, but now with all 7 episodes behind us and the work done to get here the point of the project has revealed itself. My apologies for the endless slogging accounting detail!! I will now turn my attention to crafting this story into a book by creating a chapter by chapter structure with theme and conflict and move it along at least twice the pace of this first draft. In this episode I recount the final 3 weeks of my time in Bolivia- a weeklong stay in Caranavi- the coffee capital of Bolivia, quick pit stop in La Paz, a serediptious discovery in the Andes mountain village of Sorata, a couple days of peace on Isla del Sol, and a frustrating goodbye to good ol Bolivia! Oahe Marathon Round 2- this week's episode is all about marathon masquerading. We call it the Oahe Marathon and we do run a marathon but at the end of the day the marathon is only the vehicle for pain and the idea is to dive in without preparation. To see what we are capable of when the going gets tough, when the blisters ooze, the hip flexors throb, lighting bolts strike the joints, and cramps try to bring us down. It's about overcoming the discomfort, the pain, and temporary suffering to cross the finish line. Persevere, endure, and finish the fight. This year was also about going through it together. We start together, we finish together, we help each other through! That was my favorite part of the Oahe Marathon 2.0. To say we've ran a marathon is only the cherry on top but doesn't begin to tell the story. Enjoy!

Huxley felt with mescaline that everything is supremely as it should be, Pollan shares the story of Gordon Wasson meeting Maria Sabina the healer from Mexico and the fallout of his Life Magazine article from the 50's, and Archie Lame Deer writes about the sacred sundance of the Lakota people and shares his thoughts on outsiders (white people) who want to join and a consequence from the 80's when they allowed an outsider to participate in a sundance ritual. My beautiful new home in PISAC, PERU, closing in on the 100 miler, plans to write a book about the 50 state in 50 days road trip. My VIP coffee status. Life in the day in Pisac.

Hello! I hope you enjoy this episode!! This week I chat it up with one you in my usual one sided conversation! This week I talk about returning to Peru and what I hope to accomplish in my time in that magical country. I also read from my iPhone notes that I typed out over 2 nights sitting next to a campfire in the Idaho mountains. In the notes I ask a lot of questions about death, spirituality, after life, meaning of life, the gift of fire and more. I also attempt to relate my thoughts on Michael Pollan's #1 NYT best selling book, "In Defense of Food" and relate that book along with another of his which I recently read "This Is Your Mind On Plants" to a recent news story I stumbled upon out of India involving the burning of millions of dollars worth of rhino horns. Enjoy!!!

This week I tell a number of stories- including sharting myself last week, I recap mileage for the road trip, and dream of putting afterburners on White Lighting, I compare White Lightning's fuel use to a 737, cruise ship, and a full afterburner F-16. I update the running training schedule after falling off the wagon and look forward to the final 2 months before the big run. I am applying for a badass job at the moment as well.
