Eric purchased his first apartment building at just 18 years of age while still at university. After graduation, in his position as an actuary, he was dismayed to see hundreds of company pension plans being rolled over into 401(k)s shifting the retirement risk to employees. This made him reconsider traditional beliefs about retirement saving. It also made him question his role as an actuary so he joined the lucrative technology industry. A few years later, he lost a fortune during the Dotcom crash of 2001 and he started looking for ways to earn passive income and stop trading time for money. Welcome to Real Estate (Un)Success Stories. Drew White was once a pediatric oncology nurse but today he serves as a Modern Wealth Coach and in this episode, he talks to Cody about how a little overconfidence and going with the lowest bidder, cost him time, and money. When Drew graduated from nursing school with $150,000+ of student loan debt, he realized he would be paying 50% of his earnings (for a very long time) to pay off his loans. That was the first time he understood the true impact of the debt he had created. This experience gave Drew a hunger to understand money better. He was unwilling to accept this debt as his lot in life. In his late 20s, he created wealth-building side businesses for his family to take control of their future. Over the past 7 years, he has been active as a day-trader, entrepreneur, and real estate investor. His knowledge and experience in these sectors led Drew to realize there is a better way to maximize money than most people are aware of. As a Modern Wealth Consultant, he is passionate about showing real estate investors and other entrepreneurs how to take control of their money. Key Takeaways: Try not to be too overconfident Don't always go with the cheapest bid. You'll get what you pay for. Determine how far away is too distant from your project. Always trust but verify.
