Computer scientist Edward Tufte says, "There are only two industries that call their customers' users': illegal drugs and software." Many of us came to know him in the film The Social Dilemma, which tackles the dark side of our addiction to social media.A really interesting concept we've come to understand is how these free platforms use us as the “product”. We've known this for a fact, but given how they've become necessary in our lives, we acknowledge the need to stay on these platforms. The challenge, therefore, is establishing the discipline of when to let our devices rule our time. We can break the cycle of addiction and get away from it.The brain can quickly lose focus with many things fighting for your attention, especially social media. You can take ownership of your day rather than it owning you by tweaking how you think when trying to implement new habits to upgrade self-discipline. The person most dangerous to you is YOU. The person that's the best coach for you is also YOU. I am here to remind you that whatever thoughts or feelings come to you at any given moment do not define or control you. Remember, you can choose whether to participate or not in your thoughts. You hold power to become the most dangerous person to you or be your own best coach.Resisting daily temptations can be tough on the path of self-improvement, especially when you are doing them alone. We help individuals inside our container become better people and bigger leaders in their organizations. It's been awesome to see everyone sharing their ideas and motivating each other in the group. How a little attitude of gratitude goes a long way!

As humans, we are programmed to always look for the negative and have the tendency to focus on unpleasant events and dwell on them. We can see how we get so fixated on bad days that didn't go our way in our homes and workplaces. In this episode, Kyle and I talk about the benefit of doing things differently and learning to look at the bright side of things despite our negative biases. Many business and family cultures don't have gratitude as part of their repertoire. If we want to develop a more positive view inside our homes and workplaces, we need to learn to appreciate seeing the bright side of things. We can overcome our tendency toward negativity by becoming more conscious of flexing our gratitude attitude muscles daily.A fun culture can be acceptable in the workplace to build that connection. However, we must be serious too in saying the good things, appreciating our people, and giving credit where credit is due. Often within a team of tradies, there's quite an interesting dynamic of the typical team giving each other a hard time about absolutely everything. Although there's a bit of a fun culture, it can be more of jokes than exchanging encouraging or appreciative words. Remember, necessary words must be said and heard. As a leader, it is not a weakness to validate your people, especially those whose primary love language is words of affirmation – they will feel the words deeper. Reducing Fear To Increase Productivity

Fear is present in the workplace, whether we realise it or not. The culture we keep, uncertainty, feelings of disconnect and difficult employee-employer relationships pose psychological threats to our people. As a leader, it is essential to be mindful of how you are showing up. Ensure that your actions and interactions with people inspire instead of causing fear in them — not just at work but everywhere else. You can't make people care if you don't care about them. Empathy and the ability to cultivate understanding and support in the workplace are crucial to preventing disengagement, poor performance, and indifference. There is a "good" ego, and there is an "out of control" ego. Which one do you keep? The positive side of self-pride is how it drives us to be able to succeed, rise the corporate ladder and build businesses. It gets out of control when it's not in check and not aligned to good. Just because it's being waterfalled down on you doesn't mean you need to continue the cascade. We can be all too familiar with the story of poor little Johnny. His dad comes home after a really bad day at work. He had a project that failed, and the bosses screamed at him. When Johnny approaches dad, he yells at him out of anger and stress. How does it feel to be Little Johnny? So if you're a leader, think about how you want to make your people feel. Just because higher management's intense anger and toxicity get down to you doesn't mean you need to cascade the same to your people down the line.Think of your favourite boss or workmate. There's always that person for whom we always went above and beyond for. Recall great past experiences with good managers and unforgettable supervisors and adapt these as lessons to improve your leadership. Pay Attention To The Small Things With Jade Green & Kyle Probert

We know that the #1 way to get peak productivity out of our people is for them to feel psychologically safe. One way to achieve this is by making sure they feel seen, heard and understood. They're not just numbers that make up our teams, but humans who help us grow our businesses and advocacies. Pay attention to the little things, whether in person or on Zoom. These make the big things in identifying what's going on, particularly with your team members. It is crucial to notice details by being fully engaged in the conversation. Look at the energy or how your people enter the workplace any day. Get a read and be perceptive and compassionate about what's going on. Have they come in a little bit flat or quiet? Do they try to avoid everyone? Are they not making eye contact? Always "On" Culture. We know that as a team leader, as a boss, as a business owner, and even often as an employee – like everyone else, it's easy to get tangled up in responding to notifications and being busy. It creates a disconnect with the person we're talking to. Multitasking can be disadvantageous to you. If all the tabs are open in your brain, it can drain your mental batteries and cognitive load. Be fully engaged when making conversations and get rid of the distractions to give those people the focus they need. And if you can't focus on the moment, be very clear that you will discuss concerns and questions immediately after so that your team will not feel neglected or just shrugged off.Tune in to this episode of the Team:Engineered show — Pay Attention To The Small Things with Jade Green & Kyle Probert.Key points covered in this episode: Key points: 00:49 Jade Green on the meaning behind "V" and recruitment firm Velocity 03:01 Kyle Probert on ice baths & paying attention where you feel cold04:36 Notice the small things with your team to build a connection08:27 What are the big connection killers?10:07 The botox face and non-verbal communications 12:46 Presenting to a dead crowd. 13:55 Tips when making Zoom/video calls16:46 The story of why Jade doesn't have a smartwatch and getting on focus mode21:47 Why it isn't easy to multitask.23:54 Noticing the small things & programming your Reticular Activating System (RAS), which tells our brains to look for what's important. 24:23 Preprogram your brain with the Meeting Maximizer ————————————————————————————————ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. When we become adults and assume leadership positions in the workplace, we understand that poise and standing up straight can shift the way we behave and dictate how everyone else perceives us.You only get one first impression; what message do you want to send? Jade describes the picture you've already seen before: walking into a meeting or a group setting, you naturally flock to that person who's carrying him or herself confidently. Many instances happen where everyday workers are more postured than their supervisors and managers.Standing up straight changes how you feel, but it also changes how everyone perceives you. Kyle shares how you can allow your body to fool your mind in times when you feel scared, unprepared or insecure by focusing on one simple thing — your posture. Posture brings power to the leader by inducing confidence, changing cognition and improving behaviour. Team leaders run huddles like it's an inconvenience. Be careful when you start looking at team meetings as a mindless chore. I've met clients who roll in the room, check their watches, do a million other things and forget the value of why they need to huddle with their people. Non-verbal communication, body language and bringing the right energy when you show up will determine an engaging team and ensure they do what they need to do. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy acquainted the world with the potent hack of the "power pose." Her findings teach that the body can influence the mind. Making a superhero pose for a few minutes before addressing your team or audience will make you feel more confident and capable. Body language affects you as a leader and the people around you. You've probably come across the classic saying, "dress for the job you want, not for the job you have." This is a piece of basic advice that many people still overlook. How many monkeys do you have on your back? A classic piece published by Harvard Business Review in December 1974 describes this monkey-on-the-back analogy of how managers spend so much time and energy trying to address problems jumping from the backs of their bosses, peers, and subordinates. You must delegate tasks correctly and ensure that concerns are resolved without carrying everything on your own. Get the monkeys off your back to do your best work and not be bogged down.On taking ownership and assessing 'Where did I go wrong?" If the tasks are unaccomplished or failed, consider if you have clearly defined what should have been the outcome. Think of yourself as a painter. You have to study every detail that will go into the perfect picture you imagine creating. Pass the vision you expect everybody to accomplish and clearly explain what the image of success should look like. The way to simplicity is in the details. If we want a system to run simply and repeatedly, a detailed plan ensures nothing goes wrong. Set individual instructions for specific execution and teach at the granular level for each one to understand the purpose of their role.If we want people in our team to do a great job and do it as well as we want to be done, they need to know WHY we're doing it. If they understand the why, they are far better at the how and get sold in the mission, motivated to get more skin in the game.Eliminate the shadows. If the best talent can work anywhere globally, why should they choose you and your company? Business Consultant Jade Green goes deep in this episode on how you can win the war for talent. She encourages business owners and managers to think of recruitment as an NFL talent scout going after the very best in the business. Think about it: How did the recruiters get quarterback Tom Brady to leave the New England Patriots after 20 years to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? As a scout, you need to know who the players are and who you want, but you also need to think about how you will court them to convince them to jump ship. Always be recruiting and get ready to pull the top talent. Look at the skills and attributes to get the players with the right talent in the right places at the right time. Every business has a culture — whether good, bad or indifferent. If you're looking to attract people, ask first: are your job ads attractive enough?A powerful way to do so is to describe the behaviour of the ones already on your team. Are they always pumped and ready to rock and roll the minute they get in the door? Or are they dragging their heels throughout the day to reach their deliverables? Get honest about your culture first; if it isn't working, fix it and avoid letting your reputation in the market be pulled down by any of those.Every talent, every team member, and every candidate is a customer. You are selling an opportunity. You are asking candidates to get on board with your company to pay with their most precious resource in the world that they can never get back – their time. If you're getting full-time workers, they're giving you more time away from their hobbies, children, and loved ones. So you better sell it better. Remember, knowing their personalities doesn't determine how they need to be able to put together their thoughts to take action. [00:08:40] Kyle Probert shares that the best way to cement learning is to be able to teach it. It's not actually the easiest thing in the world to do. But as soon as you can teach someone how to do it, often as you're sharing information with someone, you'll have an AHA moment and realize how everything makes a lot more sense.[00:10:28] Typically, adult learners need to integrate as they learn and actually apply it. Pay attention and make sure that you let everyone experience a teaching process that accommodates how well they absorb the information as they receive the message differently. [00:17:03] Don't say what you want to say. Say what they need to hear and think about the outcome. Let me get this clear as a leader: It's not about you. It's about them. Ten minutes of planning on how you can communicate your message will ultimately save you so many hours when your team implements the instructions, systems and tasks effectively. So bear these in mind every time you prepare for the people you're speaking to: What is their learning style? How do I talk so they can hear me? What's the real outcome I want to have? Does it serve me to fly off the handle or get heated? Am I going to get the results I want if I'm a calm person, but I want to excite a blaze or a dynamo? How do I raise myself into that energy to get them up with me? [00:19:42] Create a team of unique people. These visual, auditory and kinesthetic adult learners in the workplace need to be considered when rolling out new systems and information. This doesn't mean that they're lazy. The reasons why surfing, mountain biking, trail running, and similar physical activities are flow triggers that keep our brain focused at the moment rather than thinking of pending to-do lists and other sources of stress. [00:13:10] Jade explains that surfing teaches the hard lessons of being patient, waiting for the perfect wave, enjoying the process, holding your center, achieving being in your power zone, standing up, and catching the perfect waves, whether in the water or any aspect of life.[00:21:42] Instead of wasting time and procrastinating for three hours, Kyle recommends an alternative. Just an ounce of understanding can go a long way in this current situation.[00:09:59] Create a ritual where everyone can be vulnerable together. Before the pandemic, chatting with our workmates by the water cooler in between breaks was our social habit. Jade Green explains how we are disconnected more than ever. Nobody wants to break the ice as everyone is experiencing their own “awkward” phase - whatever COVID has brought upon them. “If you've got everybody that's feeling like that, who's going to step up and break the ice?”[00:12:34] Make everyone feel like they're on the same playing field. Kyle Probert shares how others may seem like they've got their stuff together. And this makes you feel left out and question your self-worth. But you have no idea what's going on underneath. The pandemic has turned into a great equalizer. “It's really good to let everyone know that we are all human. We all face the same problems. Our food comes from the same place. We drive the same sort of car.”[00:15:49] Be wary of the divisiveness of opinion. Physical distancing doesn't just happen in public places. It has also seeped into the collective beliefs. As people are glued to the internet 24/7, misinformation and differing ideas about health, politics, and inclusivity stir up our already-chaotic lives.[00:18:34] Kick unconscious bias. "This sounds like a lot (and it is a lot), But I can promise you, this is what I recommend for people. I started six years ago with a 15-minute routine. And then every few months, I add one thing -- maybe it was a 12-minute meditation, ten-minute journaling. It's building it one block at a time, and now because my priority is just part of my day."[00:03:15] Jade Green shares the concept of habit stacking as well. Most people can't sustain their new year's resolutions or burnout. It's just so much easier to get one thing down and take the next step. Get one thing down, take the next step. Before you know it, the habit becomes a non-negotiable, you don't want to lose any of them, and you keep adding some great things."[00:03:43] John Lee's best advice to build and keep a kick-ass team: is to ask your people, "What would make this the best job for you?" Everybody has different needs. And if you give that individual that one unbelievable yes to what they ask for, that they know they're not going to get that anywhere else, they're never going to leave. [00:07:24] Avoid the mistake of micromanaging. [00:08:31] Satisfy your people's need for growth, contribution and the feeling of significance. The best entrepreneurs know how to maximize the Third Space between work and family life and strike that much needed balance to achieve happiness and well being. Tune in to this new episode of the Team:Engineered show — The Importance of Downtime for Leaders with Jade Green and Kyle Probert.Key points covered in this episode:[00:04:51] The concept of Third Space is the moments between our busy lives when we can intentionally take a break and compose ourselves. We create a conscious shift between work and home and create a balance.[00:05:51] Jade Green covers why as individuals, not many understand the value of having a downtime, getting into your zone and setting your intention of how you're going to show up since this is something that is very rarely taught and talked about.[00:12:35] Refill your cup so that you've got heaps to offer everyone else. In 2020, we realized how important self-care is as a remedy to promote our physical, mental, and emotional health. Taking the time to intentionally nourish ourselves and pursue routines that put us at ease to counter the stressors we have to handle is the proven way to maintain balance and sustainability in all aspects of our lives.[00:15:40] Planning your downtimes inside your schedule is necessary. As simple as getting a haircut, pedicure, a massage or getting your brows done are all part of the self-care that must be prioritized.[00:22:18] Kyle Probert shares how surfers understand that getting good weather and glassy waves means you've just got to have that time to yourself. Surfing also teaches mustering the courage to ride the waters with a positive mindset and have fun despite the risks of falling.[00:27:30] We forget that sometimes we have to slow down to get faster. When you practice this for yourself and your team, expect more productivity. Kyle shares, "encourage them to do a download at the end of the day. This practice is making a mental note of what you got done, what's left out, and what you are doing tomorrow? 'Emptying' the brain to download everything out gives you a window to get organized and not take home the work stuff in your mind."[00:35:39] Mindfulness and meditation are not easy for everyone. It may seem challenging to practice silencing your thoughts or the world around you, but what you can do is to take the time to pause, breathe and start noticing all that. [00:41:36] Give yourself permission and actually say to yourself, "I allow you to have this weekend off." Again, having some downtime is not a selfish thing. Spend the time to recharge.__________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. Learning to hack personality and energy profiles is a valuable piece that you can use for building your own team and relationships in your life. Tune in to the Team:Engineered show — Personality and Energy Profiling for Success with Jade Green and Charlotte Lane.Key points covered in this episode:[00:01:48] Understanding energy kinds and profiling personalities help people find the way that they work best when they might not be sure what they should be doing and help them avoid procrastination.[00:02:11] Everybody is a genius. Just because one person has one style and another person has another doesn't mean there is a right or wrong way to do things. The key problem is how we try to conform to society's norms, and we try to fit in the box that the industrial age created through programming.[00:05:49] Familiarize yourself with the profiling system by James Hamilton. Understand the four primary genius energies that we have out in the world based on Chinese methodology and the I Ching. [00:06:37] People of dynamo energy, which is of the wood element and spring season, are those that see the really big picture and has lots of ideas.[00:08:27] Those with the Fire sign that symbolizes the summer season are the ones that talk a lot. They're on the extroverted side and are all about people and connection. [00:09:33] The tempos like to keep the pace that they run at because they're more grounded. They represent the autumn season. Tempo people are great at project managing and wonderful in customer service.[00:10:53] Those with a Steel profile represent the metal element and the winter season. They often get a bad rap for being "cold" because they usually sit way over on the introverted side. [00:13:17] Understanding these gives you the ability to figure out how you get energy, what takes your energy.[00:17:39] There is a fifth element that is super important for everybody, the Why. The spirit element allows us to reconnect to our soul and inside, as well as our unique natural genius. [00:23:04] How task auditing works wonders. This is the thing that people say has changed their lives the most. Doing the tasks to understand your genius empowers you to get yourself into a flow state while doing something you don't like to do.[00:29:00] The best way to change state is to cultivate the environment that you're in at any moment. When you operate with excellence, you can expect to see your people stepping up and giving their best. In this episode, Kyle Probert and I speak about how focusing on the things we can control in our lives translates to taking care of ourselves that will ultimately be the foundation of how we respond to situations, big or small and how well we can serve others. Key points covered in this episode:[00:04:46] Jade Green and Kyle Probert check in on each other and share how the current situation can cause many people to snap facing difficult and rocky laps in life and business.[00:07:37] All these things that add stressors into our world layer up bring us to that threshold and stop us from being able to respond. [00:09:42] The power of the WildFit Program and Eric Edmeades. We are adapting the "garbage in, garbage out" mentality with food and realizing the effect of nutrition on our ability to lead and stabilize our energy.[00:18:38] The importance of profile traits in managing a team ensures making and getting the best out of people and ensuring they are happy. [00:19:28] Understanding your team's love languages. Do they need words of affirmation to feel heard or get a pat on the back? Connect with them in ways that work for them.[00:24:08] Think through the years that you've worked in previous companies or teams -- who was that one person you worked for that got the best out of you? Assess what it was that they did for you? [00:26:39] Movement gives us energy; it clears our heads and removes the stresses. It's the releasing of dopamine and all of that that elevates us as well. Notice how the top CEOs and business leaders share one common habit: carving time in the morning to spend on themselves and setting movement and exercise as a daily non-negotiable. [00:30:45] Are you disconnected? If there's a high value of health from the leaders in the company, but a lot of the team building activities default to going out for pizza and beer, surely there's a disconnect that has to be addressed.[00:41:18] Showing up on time and presenting yourself well are a few examples that correlate how important it is to do the little things excellently because they make the big things. [00:45:01] If you find people on the job who are not ready to do the work yet, let them go and allow them to serve another business to fill their growth. When they're ready, let them know that the line of connection is still there they can come back to for support. [00:46:44] When we manage the stresses in our world, in our own environment, focusing on the things that we can control rather than the things that we can't is important for leaders.[00:50:37] Many managers practice "butt-kicking" in meetings. That was how they were taught and passed on as a culture. Starting with an icebreaker, breath work, or an attitude of gratitude practice makes a more productive week.__________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. Are you having a hard time handling your teams and keeping them on track? Kyle Probert and I can't emphasize enough the necessity for organizations and companies to focus on culture overhaul and how vital the care factor is that makes employees happier, productive and engaged.Key points covered in this episode:[00:03:55] The idea that the people should just turn up for work and grind is so outdated. We've evolved as humans, as business owners and as entrepreneurs. And yeah, happiness really is that key thing is keeping people functioning well. Removing the hurdles out of their way and just letting them get on and be successful. [00:04:18][22.8][00:05:49] Maintain that care factor so that your people adopt a culture of going out of their way to help each other. When they treat each other not just another person or a colleague but as friends, they are bound to help and make each other's life easier. [00:11:36] Think about your third space. Work on lessening the stress and pressure because not every day is going to be rainbows and lollipops. Find ways to help your employees and your team cope and support them too so that they can be fully present in their families when they leave work.[00:15:33] We can't expect our teams to be vulnerable with each other if we're not willing to be vulnerable ourselves. [00:15:38][5.0][00:20:52] As a leader, and maybe as a boss, we forget that our ego is our enemy. [00:23:28] Creating ripples in the organizational chart. The network concept outweighs the old hierarchy structure that helps paint that picture of everyone working together. We talk about the circle and the ripple effect and how those ripples when they interact with each other, get bigger as well. [00:30:01] Applying scrum meetings is the best practice by providing an open platform for the team to communicate with each other and ensure that all the information is available for everyone. If everyone shares what they're working on or where they get stuck, all the hurdles can be moved out of the way and success is made to happen. [00:33:18] Figure out who's the ball holders and who clears the field to go where the team needs to go. And that again brings in that camaraderie, so if you think about the concept of friendship or mateship, it makes work smooth and effective.[00:37:21] Happiness is the most fantastic hack to productivity and profitability. Starting meetings with breath-work or a gratitude session creates wonders on how the week will be productive.[00:40:46] Nerf guns and office fun. Enjoying some lightheartedness at work is a virtue that every company should try to embody. We talk about how nerf guns can foster play as productivity for adult learners and workers.__________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. With an influx of people working from home due to the pandemic, leaders must give them a reason to put their pants back on and return to the office. In this episode of Team:Engineered, Kyle Probert and I share how leaders can thoughtfully and successfully transition their people from at-home work to returning to the office. Key points covered in this episode:[00:11:06] Good leaders give their people a reason to put their pants back on and come to the office. Once they have a reason they will return, and it will contribute to a better team dynamic. [00:14:54] Some people are heavily affected by their environment. Leaders must consider this so that people can feel comfortable and settled in their space.[00:18:28] It's crucial that as leaders bring their teams back in, they encourage them to talk to each other. Make uncomfortable offices a thing of the past and never go back.[00:22:23] The human experience is about connection. Leaders need to figure out how to develop real, authentic relationships. Genuine human interaction cannot be overlooked.[00:29:02] What you do is who you are. It's your actions that reveal who you are, not the words that you speak.[00:38:41] Leaders need to slow down so that their team can go faster. Even if you have a million things going on, slowing down can help your team catch up and succeed. __________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. The Mass Resignation with Jade Green and Kyle Probert

There is a level of burnout and heavy cognitive load that people experience in general as we all fight through an ongoing global health crisis. Some may step up and perform better than most at work, while many others choose to let go. Why is this happening, and how do we prevent this in our own organizations? Key points covered in this episode:[00:05:28] The Mass Resignation -- WHY is this happening? As a worldwide phenomenon, it's almost like a pandemic. The reality you will find interesting is how it's all about fatigue—being in this constant state of change, rolling with the punches and living in a world of chaos. Most people in the world decide how they want better ways to live and build new careers.[00:06:47] The pandemic fatigue and VUCA Leadership. People can thrive, while some cannot adapt to manage with Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity—all of these which we continue to deal with in our lives and businesses today.[00:07:30] Are you a star creator? Transform your passion into purpose and be the resilient leader who can lead amid chaos, deal with the hard stuff when other people can't and build people up for greatness. [00:12:27] Clearing your workspace also clears your mind. If there's so much stuff on your desk, your brain also processes all of the things. Clutter, five empty water cups or coffee cups possess dead energy that contributes to creating heavy spaces.[00:19:36] Don't beat yourself up too much if you're working hard and doing the best you can and still finding that you've got attrition. [00:20:44] Be honest with yourself and look at your culture and say -- Are you providing something that makes people want to stay with you and not resign? Are you helping address their needs at all levels that affect their jobs and make them happy humans at work? [00:26:04] When's the last time you had a beer or coffee with your people? Do they have kids? What are they working towards in life? Please sit down, get to know your people and understand what's going on for them. The most important way to battle mass resignation is to connect and communicate with your team and give them that safety to talk to you fully and openly.__________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. Toolbox vs. Team Huddles with Jade Green & Kyle Probert

Meetings are vital for team cohesion. Maintain a clear distinction between toolbox talks and team huddles. And be strategic enough to foster connection and motivation. Key point covered in this episode:[00:04:17] What else can we take from elite level football teams or Super Bowl sports teams? By doing HUDDLES! Any teams from the workshop, the office and business teams will greatly benefit. [00:05:12] "Taking the knee" means making that decision to shift into a state, change the environment or the stance. So instead of doing a meeting where people sit, you stand. And that's why you often hear huddles are called stand-ups.[00:08:25] Everyone has a mental construct of a Monday meeting where they've got some PTSD. Reconstructing Mondays can make a massive difference and will allow you to create a better culture and environment. Instead of just a meeting is an effective session between the leaders and the team to do Monday mindset, motivation, and milestone settings.[00:13:09] On implementing feedback loops. Suppose we don't look at Monday about setting the intention and the milestones for the week and paint the picture of success. In that case, we can't do a proper reflection and feedback session on ourselves at the end of the week to know what worked and what didn't work and where we need to coach ourselves.[00:15:07] Toolbox Talks are meetings on safe work practices and worksite risks. They are not necessarily fun, but managers should also ensure that they aren't boring. It should be short, specific and engaging. [00:17:19] The huddles need to be about connection and not just the business. How we open it up to be vulnerable and share where we're really at, but most importantly, to build that camaraderie. [00:22:30] Strategic and intentional. Always ask what is the core outcome that I want out of this session? How do I want the people to think and actually do? What do I want them to feel? And what do I want them to say to each other or themselves? [00:26:25] Team Huddle ideas. Applying the attitude of gratitude, icebreakers and even talks about everyone's latest binge-worthy TV series are all worth the time to be included in your next meeting.__________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. The Leader As A Coach with Jade Green and Kyle Probert

All leaders yearn to build their people and business and run them strongly like a Super Bowl football team. In this episode of Team:Engineered, Kyle Probert and I share our insights on building a group where members play with the logo on the front of their jersey rather than the name on their back. All this comes together as the coach, captain, and the different players commit to becoming a winning team! Key points covered in this episode:[00:01:52] Understand the roles of the coach, the captain and the different players and how you can create your Premiership Super Bowl-winning team department. [00:03:58] Know when to leverage the skills of the other people that are on the field. A good captain never takes all of the glory for themselves. [00:08:08] It's always clever playing to each member's strengths and knowing when's the right time to pull those levers. This strategy is seen from the military to football teams that we should also apply in our departments. [00:10:15] The team leader is on the workshop floor with the crew doing the same drills. They may have to make the plays and keep the motivation, but ultimately they're still in the same team, whereas the difference of coach is being able to see the bigger picture and directing the team to make the proper steps. [00:15:16] Every person plays an equally important role. And that should not be the marker of success. The role of a leader, the manager, is to coach and look at what's working, what's not working, and the person's individual strengths.[00:16:14] We often end up pushing people into the wrong position. And it kills their soul, and then their work suffers. Be careful that you don't just promote someone because they're great at their task but focus on the actual skills needed to do that particular job.[00:22:19] Empower that person in your team who can change the energy and bring good vibes. Every team needs fun as well. That role is never really assigned, yet it can be an actual contribution. So [00:26:07] If you're on the frontlines doing the nuts and bolts and pumping the grease and all that sort of stuff, you can't necessarily see the reason what the hell for. The important thing is is that the coach knows, firstly, that that's the job for you and that you can do it effectively.[00:32:06] The key thing that the manager (as the coach) needs to keep in mind is that there's a time where they need to be directly involved with their workers. And there's a time when they need to trust the next in line (the captain) to take their instructions. It might not be your way or exactly be what you were anticipating, but you need to trust that they can get the stuff done. __________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. In this episode, we share our take on the hard thing about hard things and how we agree with a million nuggets that Ben Horowitz's talks about in his book, stating that indeed, "they should be hard things and because they're worth it."Key points covered in this episode:[00:03:48] Completing the 6 Weeks Solid was a challenge of self-leadership. This is highly helpful even if you're not the leader of an actual team, you're just you're leading your own company, or it's just a company of one. It's all about how you conduct yourself to build these habits, step yourself up in terms of performance, get yourself back on track, and step into who you want to be or who you need to be to achieve the success you wish to have.[00:05:10] As a leader, we often forget that we don't necessarily have all the right answers, and often we're the one that's getting in the way. [00:07:44] Be able to perform at your best even when you are at your worst. [00:09:57] Getting comfortable, doing the uncomfortable can be done in so many other ways. [00:13:01] Hard things become easier when you still know you're doing the right thing in a bad situation. [00:17:46] If you have to let someone go, it's you and the company that's let them down. [00:20:25] As the leader, you have to make hard decisions every day. [00:23:50] The COVID fatigue is a real, real thing and our current constant. [00:32:09] Everyone wants some structure and some consistency that creates security. [00:35:57] We know that discipline equals freedom. [00:39:00] The need for a peacetime and wartime CEO. Which one of those leaders needs to come to the forefront? Both are at the opposite ends of the profile spectrum, the other is a star supporter, and the other puts the fire under people to blaze on and send them out like you need to do. [00:44:48] Often, when we're creating the mission or the vision, we talk about: What do we stand for? and what do we stand against? "Standing for" is a really powerful, positive message. While "standing against" takes a negative concept and tries to turn it into a positive. [00:49:45] The concept of having positive messaging in all of that culture stuff is super important. __________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling. In this episode, Kyle and I talk about the mindset and surefire habits spoken in the best business books that have helped form who we are, how we behave, and how we effectively show up in our lives and our orbit. Key points covered in this episode:(00:02:54) Make your damn bed. There's a reason why parents have drilled early in our heads why making the bed every single day is a MUST. When you get older, you realize that the value of having accomplished one thing first thing in the morning builds momentum throughout the day. (00:09:30) The more you can make some things a habit, the less brain power it takes to process what's going on. Doing so removes decision-making fatigue and allows you to divert it to the more important things you do. (00:22:27) Habits & consistency create safety and control that we know what's going to happen. Ask yourself: are you doing the daily routines that set you and your team for success?(00:32:35) It's so much easier to start with a habit you already have and add rather than starting entirely from scratch.-Every day is an excellent day to make new resolutions to become a better person and leader. Start with a habit you already have and pair it with another; this technique will help you stick to it and easily establish repeatable routines for success!(00:46:46) If you want to be a better leader, you need to paint a picture of success and what that means for you. If you are unsure who you truly want to be, look at the people you respect and admire. They have blazed the path that you want to follow. Observe their character, behavior, and habits? What are the common things? Break them down and see how you can model and implement them in your own life.(00:58:18) It doesn't matter how little those habits are; if they're aligned with the person you want to be. Do you feel frustrated making slow progress? Remember: what matters is that you are moving forward and becoming better than who you were before. It can be pleasurable to take credit for every bit of success, yet it takes immense humility and courage to take responsibility when things don't work out and fail. In this episode, Kyle Probert and I share our take on what it means to take "Extreme Ownership". We share our insights from the impactful book by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin that makes us rethink our strategies, taking a cue from Navy SEAL combat stories and applying them in our own lives and businesses. Key points covered in this episode:(00:03:26) Extreme ownership is about asking yourself, "Where was I at cause?" Reflect on how your action can mitigate what didn't work; however, don't use it as a blame mechanism and beat yourself up. It should be about growth and failing forward.(00:07:54) It's super important to reflect on the good results to be able to replicate them. Recognize or give a pat on the back when something's gone right and understand what went well to let people know what worked and not the mindset of "I just got lucky".(00:08:35) Every little thing plays a part in the success or the unsuccess. What ends up as a failed attempt is always the best, learning to do things differently the next time.(00:10:14) Feedback can be seen as a reward. Build human connections with your team members and maximize meetings by truly communicating to them regardless of whether you give positive or negative feedback.(00:18:17) If you've got a team member who keeps getting things wrong, is it the team member's fault? Or is it your fault? The ownership piece ensures you've given them enough information, tools and resources to set them up for success. Don't make many assumptions about what they should or shouldn't be able to do. (00:41:38) Knowing that people understand your message is your responsibility. We have to think about how we're communicating if we want the message received and received in a way that gets the result that we're ultimately trying to get.(01:00:12) Sometimes people outgrow where they are and go on to do an absolutely amazing job somewhere else. It's our job as leaders to recognize that and, to some extent, encourage it. __________________________________________________________________________________ABOUT TEAM: ENGINEEREDTeam: Engineered is your go-to podcast for all things team building and business scaling.
