Hello and welcome to the "In The Moment" podcast, with me Alex Manzi, your coach podcaster, and your friendly neighborhood mind sherpa! In this episode I want to explore the difference between self-care and self-love. This is something that comes directly from my journey from depression to finding inner peace and fulfillment, working with athletes, artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs along the way.  What i realized is... self-care is about doing things that make you feel good, like going to the gym, going to the Spa, or to the cinema. While self-love is a deeper mindset of accepting and loving yourself, even through challenging times. It's something I am, more than something I do.  If this sounds interesting, see how you can move from self-care to self-love and how embracing a state of self-love can transform your life and relationships. I'm going to do what I do for my coaching clients: dig into some practical advice on incorporating self-love into your daily routine, and start living a more fulfilling life. 00:00 Intro 00:56 The distinction between Self Care and Self Love 01:24 What is Self Care 03:02 What is Self Love 05:58 The big difference  09:03 There's an overlap 10:04 Conclusions My next retreat "Free Your Mind" is on the 3-8 of June in Menton, France. I've Spent $50K On Self Development... WAS IT WORTH IT? Welcome back to "In The Moment"with Alex Manzi... and yes, as you've read in the title I have in fact spent about 50.000 pounds (about 60.000 in US dollars) in self development in the last 3 years, and in this episode I'm going to tell you all about it. There's a lot of wrong information and misconceptions out about coaches and self development... my experience has been truly life changing. I've started with one coach, the I aded others, and groups and mentors and retreats, to transform my financial situation, but then also my relationship goals, my mental wellbeing, my emotional status. 3 years later... I'm happy to say that I'm exactly where I hoped I would be, I'm living a dream. And I started my own coaching career. So, let me tell you how it works.  00:00 Intro 00:40 I've spent $50K on self development. 03:13 What if they told you... 04:42 Identifying goals. 06:15 What are you lacking? 07:33 Spectating VS Participating. 10:35 Where are you at in life? 11:28 Level of commitment. 13:45 When I started with my 1st coach... 15:14 I've become more... me. 17:07 before all this, I was hiding. 19:19 Conclusions. What I Learned From Interviewing 100+ Artists. Welcome to In The Moment with me, Alex Manzi, your friendly neighborhood mind sherpa. This is a special episode of the podcast for me. We're closing soon on 300 episode and I wanted to reflect an all the interviews that I made from 2017 until now. I've interviewed for this pod (that was initially called "The Dreamers' Disease") 100+ artists and creatives and I learned a lot from it. I've had known musicians like Wretch 32, Gabrielle Aplin, Sinead Harnett, Tom Grennan, Sam Tompkins. We've talked about depression, adhd, mindfulness routines, what we pass on to our sons. I've talked to the famous podcaster Dr. Rangan Chatterjee and he remembered the pain of losing his father and how that changed his life. I've even had the pleasure to speak even to Jerome Flynn, which famously portrayed Bronn in the TV show Game Of Thrones, and with him we had a deep chat about acting, art and the struggle of many people living in today's world.  I feel grateful to have had all these amazing interviews here. In this episode I try to recap everything I learned from it.  00:00 Intro 00:49 I started in 2017. 02:33 Everyone has a story.  05:46 Experience of pain. 10:04 Everyone wants the same thing.  14:07 We can bring our dreams to reality.  17:34 People give up. 18:56 Recap and DM me! I've enjoyed Alex's podcast for some time and he was on my podcast “want list” from day one so it was awesome to get to sit down with him via Zoom and chat about his work.  He genuinely wants to help people and that compassion and generosity really comes across in how he talks and the things he talks about.  He's a lovely guy! It is here I want to share two things. One, being a blog post I wrote a while back. It speaks to the idea of becoming a Black person, and the idea of what it means to watch the world burn. Watch lives that we know matter, be told they don’t. Far-right protesters wreaked havoc over a June weekend in London over a statue that instigated much of the world’s ills. To be Black, is to be scrutinised and not be able to breathe. Flames kill us. The smoke of the system does too. The second, is a snippet of a conversation I had with my friends Ryan Nile and Alex Manzi about race. This is part of a wider discussion you can find on their platforms, The Ryan Nile Show, and In The Moment with Alex Manzi. We discuss race, solutions and how we feel about the moment.Blog: https://www.alexreads.co.uk/post/a-note-on-becomingAlex Manzi: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5ZixI0bI5UEo7WqpgXXNds?si=GtNIRwDNTrCfz6qUx7gDVwRyan Nile: https://open.spotify.com/episode/78vJGRJYsYQ0uXh2sivIcE?si=l7Hs71kzRiSBAHFcSGU1kgLet me know what you think. Your London Legacy

Alex Manzi is the creator and host of the popular Dreamer’s Disease podcast which he founded and launched some two years ago. Like Your London Legacy, Alex interviews inspirational guests to find out what they do, how they do it, and what their motivations are so we can learn valuable life lessons on our own journey. I really admire Alex, as he created the podcast as a result of his personal journey, when at his lowest ebb—he doubted what he was doing with his life despite being in a good relationship and running a successful blog and club night. Inside, he was falling apart. Listen in as we dig deep into Alex’s tough journey from dark despair to the light and a passion to help others. “It’s kind of like having a house made of Lego that’s kind of tumbled down because it was built wrong. And I was at this point of like, I don’t have the answers to build it back up—but I’m going to start brick by brick.” [8:30] Alex was never a fan of school and decided early on that he wasn’t going to attend university. However, through a project at his school Alex was able to fund raise enough money to go volunteer in Brazil. There he taught kids how to learn English by reverse engineering his textbooks and got a first glimpse of taking charge of his own life experiences in an outside the norm sort of way. [16:00] After he finished his grades he ended up doing all sorts of odd jobs, and ended up making blank art canvasses in a factory for two years—two years that flashed by before he had even noticed, and he hated just about every minute of it. His plan of not going to Uni in order to build up work experience in a corporation and media had backfired, so he branched out and got a job more in line with his goals at a events and marketing company. After shifting into advertising as a TV assistant producer, Alex got a girlfriend, started a successful music blog, and a club night—seeming like he had turned his life around. But still all this success felt on the surface to Alex. He realized that he was internalizing his depression and anxiety because he was doing things that seemed like they should be great. “I had all these things that on the outside were amazing, but the second none of that was there I felt like this hollow person.“ [28:20] At his breaking point, Alex decided to start investing in himself. That meant doing things that he enjoyed—not doing things that seemed to others that he should like doing. He learned from reading biographies and other books, and podcasts too. Taking on other’s stories and learning from them helped Alex find his “why” in life, and pushed him to start his podcast: Dreamer’s Disease. [35:46] Dreamer’s Disease sets out to help inspire you to become the best version of yourself. Alex interviews guests and shares his own experiences to create a platform with broad reach and get you to stop getting lost in your dreams and actually step up, step out, and take action on them. Alex is currently working on expanding his reach through coaching both in person and through an online element so he can reach as many people as possible, as well as working on an eBook. He has left his full time job and is in transition to make the biggest impact he can, and I couldn’t be happier to talk to a fellow podcaster with a similar dream, story, and heart.   Links Dreamer’s Disease (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/dreamers-disease/id1250228076?mt=2) Dreamer’s Disease Website (http://thedreamersdisease.co.uk/) @IAmAlexManzi (https://twitter.com/iamalexmanzi?lang=en) Support this podcast

"I didn't know what I wanted to and not until very recently did I discover that. I've had lots of different career paths but I still managed to get myself into some really good positions in terms of work. It's not the end of the world if you don't know what you want to do until you're 30, 35, 40 or whatever. That's just part of life. You've just got to roll with it."  My guest this episode is Podcaster, Coach and Social Media Producer Alex Manzi. Born and bred in London, Alex says he “never got on with” with school and found greater purpose working at his Uncle’s delicatessen at the weekends.  It wasn’t a surprise, then, that Alex decided to forgo University in favour of hitting the ground running in the workplace. From working in a pasta factory to delivery driving, he spent his first year as a jack-of-all-trades before working at a factory for almost three years.  While he considers this a dark and directionless time, it was also when he created his Music Blog 'We Are SME' and Club Night called Wanderlust. By day, he was stretching canvases onto their frames and by night he was furiously writing about his favourite new musicians. Eventually, he landed his first job in Media at an Events and Marketing firm, before embarking on a career in Advertising.  In 2014, he became BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Social Media Producer, where he spent four and a half years tweeting and Instagramming about music. At a point, however, he couldn’t help but feel something was missing. He stooped back into that familiar dark place, finding solace in motivational podcasts and books. This motivated him to create his very own podcast ‘Dreamer’s Disease’ - a podcast dedicated to telling the inspirational stories of others, in a bid to inspire himself and his audience.  Almost 80,000 plays later and after four years at 1Xtra, Alex has now taken a leap to pursue his passion full-time, to see where Dreamer’s Disease can take him. I had the pleasure of working with Alex at the BBC and was so impressed when he started his own podcast on the side. Seeing him go ahead and pursue his dreams stoked a fire inside me, and served as an inspiration to get my podcast off the ground. I absolutely love how honest and candid Alex is when talking about some of life's more difficult subjects.  In this relatable chat, Alex talks about how he felt lost for most of his twenties, unsure of what he really wanted to do. He explains how his decision to reject the usual path of university in favour of working has served him in the long run, and how feeling directionless has been the cause of some of his darkest moments. Alex also explains how he found purpose and re-discovered himself, to now be in a position to help others do the same with his Podcast Dreamer's Disease and new Coaching Business.  **Follow me:** Twitter: [@katiephilo](https://twitter.com/katiephilo) Instagram: [@katiephilo](https://www.instagram.com/katiephilo/) [](https://katiephilo.com/) [www.katiephilo.com](https://katiephilo.com/) [](https://katiephilo.com/) **Follow Alex: ** **Twitter:** [@IAmAlexManzi](https://twitter.com/IAmAlexManzi) **Instagram:** [@iamalexmanzi](https://www.instagram.com/iamalexmanzi/) **Facebook:** [@iamalexmanzi](https://www.facebook.com/iamalexmanzi/) **Follow Dreamer's Disease** **Twitter: **[@DreamersPod](https://twitter.com/DreamersPod) **Instagram: **[@the_dreamersdisease](https://www.instagram.com/the_dreamersdisease/)
