It's been a long time since I learned the Pledge of Allegiance, as those in our third grade class recited it to our teacher and finished with a perfect presentation. Our teacher said she noticed that we all knew the words perfectly, but it just seemed like it was memorized with no heart behind the words. Then she began quoting the pledge back to us with the heart of the document included. Since that day, I have never forgotten what the Pledge of Allegiance is all about. Enjoy,

Allyship produces fair-weather commoraderie. Allegience is about supporting historically marginalized groups, even when it doesn't serve you. In today's episode DEI Strategist, Dethra Giles, talks us through how allyship is not enough when it comes to progressing the DEI movement. Allyship is only present when it's beneficial for the person holding the most privilege to be supporting others. The moment it stops being beneficial, that allyship goes away. The idea of allegiance proclaims something much more holistic. What would unwavering support do for historically marginalized communities in workspaces? What would the impact be on issues like age discrimination? bias based on a person's accent? If you've been wondering how to move DEI efforts from frantic reactions brought on by world events, to a sustained effort that can be maintained over time, this is the episode for you. Today's Scripture: Proverbs 16:4-5, 11, 20 Vs. 4-5 - The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. 5 Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished. Vs. 11 - A just balance and scales are the Lord's; all the weights in the bag are his work. Vs. 20 - Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

This might just be one of the more challenging passages we've read so far. As we study through Matthew's Gospel. Jesus seems like he's telling people he's come to bring violence and division between families. It's a tough passage to comprehend so what is Jesus really saying? I think you'll be presently suprised but as you listen be ready to be challenged by Jesus' words to you.
In this sermon extra Jacey discusses the nature of idolatry and why we need to look at salvation through the lens of Christ's kingship and not only His priesthood.
In this episode of Immigration Law for Tech Startups, I’m joined by my law partner, Anita Koumriqian, an expert in family immigration law. In this first of two episodes on U.S. citizenship, we’ll discuss citizenship through the naturalization process for adults 18 years or older. Next time, we’ll discuss certificates of citizenship and the automatic acquisition of citizenship for children under the age of 18. Before we get into the highlights of this episode, we’re pleased to share some great news: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Aug. 25, 2020, that it canceled plans to furlough more than 13,000 employees on Aug. 31, 2020, averting a massive slowdown of visa, green card, and citizenship processing. What’s more, USCIS has resumed naturalization interviews (our team just handled several remotely for clients across the country) and naturalization ceremonies. In fact, the USCIS San Jose field office has held a naturalization ceremony in its parking lot, with individuals taking the Oath of Allegiance from their cars. Green card interviews are also expected to restart soon. The resumption of green card interviews is particularly good news for individuals who want to earn all the benefits and responsibilities that come with U.S. citizenship. That’s because you must have a green card for at least five years—or three years if married to a U.S. citizen—before you’re eligible to submit a naturalization application. Additional residency and physical presence requirements also apply, which we discuss in detail in this episode. During election years, USCIS typically steps up processing for naturalization applications. However, the backlog of naturalization applications has skyrocketed in the past four years, which has meant processing times are about double what they were previously. Unfortunately, COVID-19-related measures have also contributed to slowing down the process. Please reach out to the Alcorn Immigration Law team if we can assist you with the naturalization process or any other immigration matter. In this episode, you’ll hear about: What to consider before taking the steps to become a U.S. citizen, including dual citizenship, responsibilities of citizenship, and timing All the requirements for becoming a U.S. citizen through the naturalization process What to expect from the naturalization application process, including typical USCIS processing times What to expect at your citizenship interview Sample questions that are on the English and civics tests given at citizenship interviews What to expect when taking the Oath of Allegience at a naturalization ceremony When you can apply for a U.S. passport Don’t miss the next episode on certificates of citizenship by subscribing to Immigration Law for Tech Startups on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or your preferred platform. Let us know what you think of the podcast; your ratings and reviews are greatly appreciated. And please share this episode with anyone you know who may be contemplating U.S. citizenship. We can't afford to ignorantly adlib like a soldier who doesn't know the fight or foe. Though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ESVThe enemy always has his most success when he causes us to forget who God is.Another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. Revelation 12:3-4 ESVAll the descendants who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. Revelation 12:17 ESV Daniel declared, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another. Daniel 7:2-3 ESV7 Kingdoms = Assyria, Egypt, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, An End-Time KingdomForgetting God is like forgetting to breathe, it won't be long before your soul starts to die. In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods and walked in the customs of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city. They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the Lord to anger, and they served idols, of which the Lord had said to them, “You shall not do this.” Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.” 2 Kings 17:6-13 ESVTherefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there, or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege mound against it. By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, declares the Lord. For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.” And that night the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went home and lived at Nineveh. And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword and escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place. 2 Kings 19:32-37 ESVThere's no greater weapon in the war that we're waging than an absolute trust in our conquering King. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6:13-14 ESVAbraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Romans 4:3 NIVThe most powerful, right, and righteous choice we can ever make is to simply believe God.Jesus is not afraid of the dragon, but the dragon is definitely afraid of Him!He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:15-18 ESVKnowing God is God, and knowing God as God, is the knowledge the heart needs to defeat the dragon.

November 25, 2018 - Mount Olivet United Methodist ChurchLuke 18:33-37, Christ the King SundayWhen we are baptized, named and claimed as beloved by our Creator, we proclaim Christ as our Savior and promise to serve Him as Lord. That was a bold profession to make 2000 years ago and it continues to be so today. It is a declaration that Christ is Lord and everything else is secondary. Our allegiance lies with Christ, because of the promises made at our baptism which means the truth for our lives looks different from those who do not make the same proclamation.

Thoughts on Breathing I'm amazed that more dance techniques don't encorporate the breathing. Breath has it's own innate energy. Inhilation is actually called inspiration. Inhiliation is literally receiving new energy from the universe. Exhilation, I call it the liberating breath, the cleansing breath, the releasing breath and for me it's a very under used resource that we all have. It's so close, and yet, because it's always there, we tend to be blind to it. Ancient systems like Yoga, and all of the mystical traditions really, use the breath as a doorway. The more we can be aware of it, moment by moment, I think the more it's enhances our quality of life and the way we show up into life. Suggested Resources Book: Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice by Shunryu Suzuki App: Relax Melodies (Mix and Choose Different Sound Effects) Bullying Story Yes, I have several stories about bullying. When I first came to this country I was nine and a half years old and we were in upstate New York where at that time there were very few ethnic people. I think my sister and I were the only Asian kids in an entire elementary school. It was actually a boom because we got so much attention from the teachers. I think that made a few of the other kids jealous. In the beginning, every morning we had to put our hand on our heart and recite the Pledge of Allegience to the United States of America. Those are some advance words like 'individual', I couldn't pronounce. I phonetically memorized it after a few months. I was just mouthing it and these two kids were sitting across from the table. They were sneering at me and started to push the table towards me saying, 'you don't know what it means, you can't say it'. They started to push me and at that moment I felt so humiliated and helpless. I didn't know how to counter that because ... the teacher was oblivious and so I let it get to me. I just sat there holding my tears back. If it were me now, I probably see that these kids were just acting out of jealousy. Kids can be quite cruel and it's really tough because when you're a child you're not equipped with the level of self awareness and self-confidence that allows you to fight back or to say something. I didn't have the words. I didn't know the language well enough to fight back like that. It was the first experience of being bullied and I was older than these kids because I was demoted two grades because I couldn't speak any English. It was a tough time. I think life gives us experience and it made me more determined to learn English and to work really hard to master the language. Jason Hunter Help people stop avoiding Jesus... by having Holy conversations. Truth on Trial = Verse 38 John 14:6 ~ I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. Do you trust Jesus? Authority on Trial = Verse 19 James 2:19 ~ You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that -and shutter. Have you given Jesus Authority over your life? Allegience on Trial = Verse 36 1 Samuel 8:4-7 James 4:4 ~You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Whose Kingdom are you living for? Courage on Trial = verse Matthew 10:32-33 ~ Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in Heaven. Will you stand for Jesus? Is JESUS your King?
Why do Christians call Jesus a 'king?' And if that's true, how can we be mindful of His kingdom each day? We dig into these topics as we study Psalm 72 and come to the conclusion of this series. Speaker: Aaron Yoder

Greetings! Welcome to the Holbrook New Media Audio Feed. We do audio, video, content creation, and that other stuff. holbrooknewmedia.com. Today on Episode 16 of The Geoff & Jeffrey show, here are some of the things we are talking about: Blab.im has died a quiet death, leaving us orphans, but Geoff, being the fancy video expert, has set us up using Wirecast and Skype. This gives new versatility, improves both the audio and video and streams live on YouTube at the same time! Blab was primarily expected to be used as a video version of Facebook, but many people started doing shows and only being on once a week. So, it looks like we killed it. The new version of Wirecast is pretty expensive, but has NDI, (Network Device Interface), which allows you to bring any computer on your network into play. Jeffrey has found that it is possible to record a Skype call with his Audio Technica AT2005usb and Zoom H5 recorder. Usually, it requires a larger mixer that has enough Auxillary Sends, or special software that takes up system resources from Skype. On Tech Down Over, the guest was Anthony Artis a writer and educator about videography. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ob1Y6kOS4c Books by Anthony Artis: The Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide: A Down & Dirty DV Production The Shut Up and Shoot Freelance Video Guide: A Down & Dirty DV Production Jeffrey is thrilled with the launch of a friend's podcast that he helped with. It has amazing sound, and great content. Check it out: http://remnantbiblefellowship.libsyn.com/ Geoff played a short demo for the show that is going to be played on episode 80 of The Feed, the Official Libsyn Podcast. Libsyn is the podcast hosting company that Jeffrey uses for the podcast version of Geoff & Jeffrey: The Weekly Catch Up. A discussion of how a show such as ours and Tech Down Over can sometimes have a hard time deciding who's turn it is to talk. YouTube is inconsistent in enforcing the copyright laws sometimes. Major News services reported that President Obama had banned the American Pledge of Allegience. We discuss this, thinking it is real, but found out later it was a hoax. Geoff mispelled Holbrook on Jeffrey's lower third. hehehe! Mispellings of our names in general. Advances in tech, like in the Vincent Price movie, "The Abominable Dr Phibes". He was so deformed, he had developed a way to plug in on the back of his neck to communicate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Abominable_Dr._Phibes How cities in the U.S. are closely crowded compared to Australia. --------------------------------------- If you would like to receive the show notes in your email with links for things mentioned in episodes, go to holbrooknewmedia.com.
