Episode 40 of the Asking Why podcast is live!  Clint Davis had the privilege of interviewing Bettina Shultz-Jobe about the many benefits of connecting with horses to improve mental health. Bettina is a licensed professional counselor. Eleven years ago, she and her husband, Tim Jobe, founded The Natural Lifemanship Institute.  Natural Lifemanship joins with mental health professionals, equine professionals, coaches, and others in the healing professions on a journey of personal and professional healing, growth, and transformation through education and certification. This journey's foundations are found in the horse-human relationship and the neurobiology of attachment and trauma.  Their vision is a world where connection and the value of healthy relationships is seen and felt in everything we do.  Nowadays, Bettina spends a lot of time "helping the helpers" as over 350 professionals move through NL certification.  She also continues to carry a part-time client load.  She has worked in this field for over 20 years and is passionate about helping people and animals form trusting relationships to overcome toxic stress and trauma.   This podcast was a fun and encouraging time with lots of synergy. If you love animals, therapy, and healing this episodes for you!!

The episode today covers the very important topic of precisely how to take in the vast amount of information that is circulating as the world works through these unprecedented times. As Matt and Garrett point out, the mindset that is brought to bear when receiving  this information is key, and, as always, they have a great deal of advice to share to ensure the best possible outcome for both your business and personal life.   Throughout today’s conversation, they stress the importance of filtering the vast amount of information presented to us through a ‘for me’ lens as opposed to a ‘to me’ one. The Ninja concepts of ‘player mentality’ and ‘abundance mindset’ are reviewed, and the effect of ‘shoulding’ on yourself are discussed as well. Surrounding yourself with those who bring positive energy into your environment, and inspiring others to adopt a ‘for me’ attitude are also emphasized by our hosts. In times when so very many changes are occurring, and so much new information is presented, your mindset can be the key to thriving, and Matt and Garrett share the strategies to employ to do just that in today’s episode.   Episode Highlights:   Asking ‘Why is this happening for me?’ instead of ‘Why is this happening to me?’ Handling the information that is coming into you these days Learning from micro-moments The importance of the ‘for me’ mentality Player mentality vs. victim mentality  Abundance mindset vs. scarcity mindset ‘Shoulding’ on yourself Managing the extensive energy that is out there now The importance of your environment and the energy within it Inspiring others to adopt a ‘for you’ perspective   Quotes:   “What can I learn from this situation?”   “There’s some reason that you’re getting the results that you’re getting.”   “Everything is a growth experience.”   “When you have that ‘for me’ mentality, you begin to see opportunity all around you.”   “The need for a highly qualified real estate agent that is highly trained and knows how to get you from contract to closing safely – this is the ‘for you’ moment right now. Like, this is your time to stand up and shine if you want to take the opportunity to do it.”   “What is the value I bring to the table?”   “This is a time right now that’s making us just stop and reanalyze everything, and it’s good.”   “Take this and go fuel your lives so you can share it with others.”   Links:   www.TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Email us at TSW@TheNinjaSellingPodcast.com Ninja Selling www.NinjaSelling.com @ninjasellingofficial Ninja Coaching: www.NinjaCoaching.com @ninja.coaching Garrett garrett@ninjacoaching.com @ninjaredding Matt matt@ninjacoaching.com @matthewjbonelli

YOU Are Good Enough!

How do we become "controlling"? I want to help you all bring to light a disempowering behaviour that often times stems from how we grew up-control. If you lived in a household with a lot of rules like me, then you may have learned that to be obedient, to follow the rules, and to base our lives upon rules will bring us ultimate protection, security, and happiness. If only things went the way we wanted them to, gosh, wouldn't life be INCREDIBLE??? But there's a cost to having our grip wrapped so tightly around our lives and the lives of others-a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual cost. What is it in your life that you can let go of, in order to feel more free and less anxious? In order to feel more at peace? In this episode, we will talk about: 1. How we've come to be controlling 2. Where are we controlling most and with what 3. The ways we control our lives or the lives of others 4. Growing up and how this relates to how we've controlled 5. Asking WHY these 'rules' are so important to us 6. The uncomfortableness in life that control brings us-trying to "get our way" in conversation 7. The physical affects and outcomes on our bodies when we control 8. Time to do the HEART WORK 9. Getting to know ourselves on a heart-based level in order to let go and feel more freedom in our lives. What if what we really need is more love and acceptance on ourselves and others in our lives? I know that sounds kinda obvious, BUT, it's time to start taking more steps towards aligning with our love for self. It's time to have the heart based conversation with YOU. Harriet Cabelly’s book, Living Well Despite Adversity: Inspiration for Finding Renewed Meaning and Joy in Your Life, began as a blog entitled, “Rebuild Life Now.” Seeking to represent a “diversity of adversity,” the author conducted monthly interviews with the likes of Cheryl Strayed, Temple Grandin, Meredith Viera, and other lesser-known people, all who have adversity in common. Now, collecting her 36 conversations in a book, Cabelly shares stories of heartbreak and grief, pain and persistence. These interviews illustrate how some have managed to transcend grand challenges by choosing to not only live through adversity but to thrive because of it.   KEY POINTS When shattered dreams become adversity, we need to rebuild new dreams around our new reality. Unloading = painful journey of going into “a dark pit” of heart-wrenching feelings, which you must go through in order to come through; a liberating experience that releases toxicity Integrating (vs. overcoming, putting behind) - incorporating a challenge by making it part of your new normal with new dreams and goals Asking “Why?” is a waste of energy; instead, ask “How…?” Asking for help to get the support you need takes strength and courage. Writing can be a coping tool for grief and a mechanism to make sense of hard times. Starting an organization to help others who go through similar challenges can be healing. Regardless of why people are hit by adversity, their grieving experience is very similar. By going deep into the pain and allowing yourself to feel hurt, small openings let you see new possibilities, helping you repurpose yourself. Having a newly discovered purpose allows you to go forward living a life with real meaning (Viktor Frankl) When we let down our guard and become vulnerable, we morph into genuine human beings with authentic emotions, which connect us on the deepest human level. QUOTES FROM CABELLY "It’s no big deal to live well when all is going well in our lives, but my keen interest has been in those who have a lot of pain and hardship to deal with, yet still manage to—dare I say—thrive. I am in awe of such people." “What does it mean then to live well? It means living with a sense of meaning and purpose, with an ability to experience joy and satisfaction. It means to embrace the positive and deal with the negative; to live aligned with one’s values; to live with intention and be an active creator of our life, to put our best self forward so we can positively impact and be of service to others while we occupy a place on this earth.” “When adversity knocks us for a loop, living well means taking on the challenge and integrating it into our life. It’s not about succumbing to the problems and becoming a victim, or deciding on some level that our life is over because of them. It’s not about becoming bitter; it’s about becoming better.” “Each story is one of success since the people in them have all been able to not just live, but thrive. I offer them as inspiration and as a way for you to see and learn that you too can do it. We are not fixed human beings. We all have the capacity and potential to be more than we are, and to change—even in baby steps.” RECOMMENDATION Search Harriet Cabelly's book for many additional books written by the people she interviewed. Today's episode is a VERY special listen, with an extraordinary guest discussing some incredibly important topics.  It also happens to be one of my favourite episodes to date, and I don't say that about just any episode! Meet Elana Jadallah. Elana, or as some call her, Loo,  is an entrepreneur, photographer and educator who runs the blog ElanaLoo.com and co-founded Dérive Collective, a social media consulting and photography company. She's wildly passionate about entrepreneurship, travel, wellness and sustainability and welcomes us along on our journey in hopes we are too! Elana likes to spend her days feet planted in the sand with camera in hand, on the shores of Hawai’i or coast of Maine depending on the time of year. With an infinite love for the outdoors, beautiful photographs and experiencing new places, she's shaped her life and career around travel and using her platforms to impact the world. She shares her experiences and adventures while empowering us with tools to build a sustainable life and business, ways to live more mindfully and inspiration to experience the depth of this world. I came across Elana through the power of Instagram, first becoming a fan of her partner Aaron'sbeautiful photos, and then finding Elana after she and Aaron had a gorgeous photography session with Lindsay Roman.  Immediately drawn to Elana’s message around simplicity, sustainability in life and work, and her focus on the environment, I was beyond honoured to have had a chance to speak with Elana and could have talked to her all day! This episode is a must listen and covers some significant topics that deserve more attention: Huge focus in sustainability, everything from everyday life and our health, to business and the environment Taking care not to wrap up your entire identity in being an entreprenur and your work Healthy hustle and finding ways to create the freedom to live and play within your days for enjoyment and to avoid burnout Being present and intentional, and how living in Hawaii has taught Elana how to live life with more intention in her business and on her priorities, along with shifting her entire body image and how she views herself with confidence Asking WHY more often in every area of your life and doing the work to educate yourself (seems to be a recurring theme on this podcast!) Most importantly, we share a powerful, compelling and eye-opening discussion about the environment. Living on the Hawaiian islands where there is such a sensitive ecosystem, Elana has a front-row seat to some of the most serious effects of climate change and plastic usage, and it’s going to shift how you look at the environment you cultivate in your own home and everyday life. Elana cultivates such a beautiful positive attitude, not only in herself but in everyone around her as well. She also happens to be every bit as lovely to speak to in real life as she seems online, and her Instagram account is one of my fave on IG to follow!  Make sure to check her out, along with this POWERFUL episode that will change the way you think and how you show up in your own life. David Watson explains why planning for the Stage 6 Mathematics Standard syllabus and new forms of assessments are a priority and how to implement these effectively… “It is often true that there is a right answer and a wrong answer, but investigation is what makes Maths really good… a Mathematician is interested in so much more than getting the right answer. The re-categorisation of Standard 1, I feel, works very much in our favour as teachers. It makes that course much more relevant and obvious to kids… it’s an opportunity for us and knowing what NESA’s intentions are helps us to implement the new syllabus best. Many of the topics are very much the same as they were before… there are a few inclusions that are worth noting and that we are unfamiliar with. I found researching these and why they exist is really helpful for understanding why I am teaching it... Networks is by far the biggest change and only included in Year 12… Asking ‘Why would a kid find this useful?’ was a really helpful way for me to understand what the topic is about. …I'd like to see students being less fearful about our subject.” For information about contributors and the JPL Podcast, as well as Journal of Professional Learning articles and Centre for Professional Learning courses, please visit our website www.cpl.asn.au/podcasts

Social media is NOT just telling people what you have for them to buy, or what you had for lunch Questions Artists Need to be Asking Why do you matter? What is your truth? What are you offering someone? What kind of culture are you creating around yourself as an artist? Listen in at JackieUlmer.com/204 if you haven’t.Asking Why to Move You Through ChallengesAre you struggling with fear, procrastination, time management, lack of people to talk to or anything else in your Direct Sales business? Many of us do, and there is usually a subconscious reason we are struggling with these things, so let’s dive in, shall we?Whenever we have challenges in moving forward and taking action in your business, it is something within you that is holding you back, usually something from way back in the past. This is where being honest with yourself and going “within” can be very powerful when you work things right.Set aside some quiet time and think about all of those things that are stopping you. In fact, I recommend journaling and I’ll be sharing the power in this in an upcoming show, as this is something I committed to and stuck with this past year and WOW - is it ever enlightening. So, on a piece of paper of in your journal, write down EVERYTHING that you feel you are struggling with right now in your business.I already mentioned a few - fear, procrastination, time management, lack of people to talk to, and a few others might be finding time to follow up, negative people, objections. So, think about each one and let’s start with fear.Ask yourself - why am I feeling fear in my business? And, then pay attention to what comes up for you? What does your mind give you as an answer?Write it down, and don’t overthink it. Write down what comes to mind for you immediately. After you write that down, ask WHY, again. So, let’s say you say - I’m afraid of what other people will think or say about me.Now ask - WHY am I concerned about what other people will think or say about me.And, then write that down. And then again, ask - why.Do this at least 5 times and see how far down you can go to get to the root of what is causing this challenge for you.Reflect on each of the answers and certainly the last one you do.What does this tell you about the situation? How can you grow from this and move past it?Is this fear REAL or made up, and how much does it really matter to you?You can do this for each of your challenges and any time you are feeling stuck! You CAN become your own best coach and if you are looking for some mindset coaching, I’m here to help. Sometimes it’s just a couple of sessions and we can get your right past those issues!http://StreetSmartWealth.com/coachI LOVE and appreciate reviews!Go to JackieUlmer.com/itunes or JackieUlmer.com/stitcher to leave your review and be entered into a drawing for a free month of coaching.Show notes http://JackieUlmer.com/207I really do want to hear from you.
