The Daily Blast: Trump Accidentally Wrecks GOP Midterm Message in Dumbest Self-Own Ever

Deep State Radio

This week, Donald Trump aggressively highlighted a long screed from a MAGA influencer that sharply criticized the GOP for failing in all kinds of ways. This is aimed like a laser at depressing the Trump base. Making this matter more, Trump keeps saying stuff like this himself: He recently declared that his voters are not angry at him, they are angry at Republicans. Translation: Trump voters should hold the GOP accountable for failing him. This directly undercuts the GOP midterm strategy of campaigning on...the achievements of the GOP Congress. Note that Mike Johnson keeps attempting that strategy, only to see Trump undercut it again and again. We think this could actually matter, and to parse out why, we talked to Jennifer Rubin, editor-in-chief of The Contrarian. We discuss why Trump's attacks on the GOP really could make a huge difference in hard demographic terms, why Trump's political project requires him to keep doing this, and what Democrats must do now to avoid overconfidence and close out strong.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast host Troy Trewin interviews Murray Kent shares how he turned a $40,000 acquisition of Con-ex into a $10M+ business with 35 employees and consistent 15–20% annual growth. He reveals how customer diversification, niche marketing, financial discipline, and an open-book management culture helped drive that growth. Murray explains why reducing owner dependency and building a strong team ultimately increased Conex's value and helped him secure a sale at nearly 6.5× EBITDA. He also discusses managing stress, maintaining work-life balance, and helping employees break through their own limitations. Finally, Murray shares his advice for business owners thinking about their exit, including why you should start building Conex to sell from day one. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Murray Kent shares that the hardest part of growing a small business is managing your own expectations and stress. He explains that stress is a constant part of business ownership, whether it comes from people, finances, or sales. The key is learning to manage it, stay healthy, and remind yourself that difficult periods will eventually pass. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Murray Kent shares that his favorite business book is Built to Sell, which had a major influence on how he approached building his businesses. He says its focus on creating a business with the eventual exit in mind shaped his thinking throughout his journey. Murray believes this approach leads to a stronger, more attractive business for a future buyer. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Murray Kent shares that he regularly learns from podcasts and books featuring the experiences of other business owners. He recommends Built to Sell Radio and Mark Bouris's Straight Talk, along with Money Café and The Contrarians. Murray values hearing real business stories because they reveal what worked, what didn't, and lessons he can apply to his own experience. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Murray Kent shares that the most valuable resource for growing a small business is becoming a better coach, encourager, and inspirer of people. He believes business owners should learn how to bring out the best in their team and help employees feel like owners. By developing and empowering people, leaders can create stronger engagement and drive sustainable business growth. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Murray Kent shares that he would remind himself that everything is going to be okay and encourage himself to take the leap. He believes it is important to consider the worst that could happen, but also think about the regret of not taking the opportunity. His advice is to have a plan, take the risk, and trust yourself to make it work.  Book a 20-minute Growth Chat with Troy Trewin to see if you qualify for our upcoming course. Silicon Valley was built on semiconductors, but for nearly two decades, venture capital shifted its attention towards software. Today, AI is changing that as the demand for compute, memory and networking explodes, hardware is once again at the centre of the industry's biggest bets. In this episode of TechSurge, host Michael Marks speaks with Lip-Bu Tan, CEO of Intel and one of the semiconductor industry's most influential investors and executives. The conversation traces Tan's journey from studying nuclear engineering at MIT to leading Cadence's turnaround, investing in more than 500 technology companies, and now steering Intel through one of the most significant transformations in its history.Tan shares his VC conviction on backing semiconductor startups when most venture investors favored software, and why he believes AI's next breakthroughs will come from advances in memory, packaging, photonics, cooling and high-speed connectivity. He also opens up on the leadership philosophy that defined his time at Cadence, where listening to customers and building a culture of responsiveness became the foundation of the company's revival.Wearing his CEO hat, Tan explains Intel's long-term strategy, why vertical integration still matters, how the company plans to reconnect with the startup ecosystem, and why missing another technology wave is not an option. Speaker Profiles and LinksLip-Bu Tan: CEO of Intel Corporation, Chairman of Walden International, Founding Managing Partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lip-bu-tan-284a7846/celesta.vc bio link Intel ceo bio link Further reading and resourcesReuters – “Intel's new CEO plots overhaul of manufacturing and AI operations”https://www.reuters.com/technology/intels-new-ceo-plots-overhaul-manufacturing-ai-operations-2025-03-17/ Intel – https://www.intel.comCelesta Capital – https://www.celesta.vcSIA – “Global annual semiconductor sales increase 25.6% to $791.7 billion in 2025” – https://www.semiconductors.org/global-annual-semiconductor-sales-increase-25-6-to-791-7-billion-in-2025/Infercom – “What is an RDU? Most people assume Great Britain's grid connection queue works on a first come, first served basis. It doesn't - and that misconception is costing developers time and money. Connections reform was meant to bring clarity to the queue, but projects that were declared protected and pushed to the front are still missing their connection dates, and new contract disputes are now stalling projects that should already be moving.  EPISODE DESCRIPTION In this episode, I sit down with Evgeny from Disence, one of the leading KOL and Web3 marketing firms in the space. Evgeny has worked with over 500 campaigns and 1,200+ KOLs, and he pulls back the curtain on what projects are getting badly wrong when it comes to influencer marketing. We get into why impressions are a vanity metric, why macro KOLs are largely a waste of budget, how to actually vet a KOL in today's market, and why the best micro KOLs are paradoxically the hardest ones to reach. Evgeny also shares how his team helped one client close nearly $800,000 in B2B sales, and why building credibility before launching any campaign is non-negotiable. If you run a Web3 project or are thinking about KOL marketing, this one will save you a lot of money. DISCLAIMERNothing mentioned in this podcast is investment advice and please do your own research. Peter Schiff warns the bubble is popping as crypto leads the decline, while the bond market faces another breakdown with the 10-year potentially breaking above 5%. He emphasizes inflation is a choice—all Fed chairs chose it, and Warsh will too despite tough talk, because the alternative is politically unacceptable. He reveals the May deficit surged 30% while interest expense jumped 44%, with annual interest payments now hitting $1.6 trillion and will be $2 trillion by next year. Schiff identifies Japan as a looming harbinger with 250% debt-to-GDP, yields climbing above 4%, and the yen collapsing below 160 with potential for another 30-50% decline. His end game thesis: the US dollar loses reserve currency status, US assets get repriced down, and he's positioning to "have all the chips" at the finish line. Gold's pullback from $5,600 to $4,200 is a "buy the rumor, sell the fact" move, while silver at $65 is headed to $200 and Bitcoin at $64,000 should be sold. GDP growth is an illusion created by faulty deflators that understate inflation; the economy hasn't really expanded, just become more expensive, and stagflationary depression is locked in.Thank you to our sponsors: Kalshi - download the Kalshi app and use code JULIA to get $10 when you trade $10. kalshi.com/julia Monetary Metals - learn more at https://www.monetary-metals.com/julia/Links:https://x.com/PeterSchiffhttps://www.youtube.com/@peterschiffTimestamps: 0:00 Intro and welcome Peter Schiff 00:50 Air coming out of bubble 1:16 Markets too complacent on inflation risks1:45 Warsh has a problem - Hike or no hike, both bad3:36 Inflation is a choice - All Fed chairs chose it5:11 Warsh will choose inflation despite tough talk5:24 Bond market breakdown coming - 10-year to 5%, 30-year to 5.5-6%7:42 May deficit up 30%, interest expense up 44%8:13 Interest payments $1.6 trillion/year, will be $2 trillion next year9:39 Government spending up 50% since COVID, taxes reduced10:57 Inflation is hidden tax - Government prefers it11:52 Iran war costs through inflation, not direct taxation13:49 Wealth tax - Slippery slope, will hit middle class eventually19:56 Japan crisis - Debt to GDP 250%, yen collapsing below 16020:29 Japanese bond yields at 4% on 30-year, rising fast21:45 Japan could sell $1 trillion in US treasuries24:41 Japan harbinger for US crisis24:54 Treasury Secretary Paulson says crisis inevitable27:18 Gold warning sign - Pullback to $4,200 from $5,600 normal29:24 Silver at $65, headed to $20032:39 Stock market at highs but economy worse than Biden36:56 GDP illusion - Deflator too low, just prices not growth39:48 End game - Dollar won't be reserve currency40:40 Playing for end game, wants all chips at finish43:31 Contrarian predictions - Higher rates, higher oil, higher gold44:30 Japan crisis first domino, then dollar next45:01 Summary - Stagflation and end game thesis

We like Glen Powell as much as the next film fan, but let's get real. There's only one Running Man, and his name is Arnold Schwarzenegger.  EPISODE DESCRIPTION In this episode, I sit down with Prakash Kamraj, co-founder of DeCharge Network, to explore one of the most overlooked intersections of Web3 and the physical world: EV charging infrastructure. Prakash walks me through how DeCharge is building an Airbnb-style model for EV chargers, where anyone , from a business owner to a crypto community member , can host a charging station and earn passive income from it. We dig into why the B2B market is the real engine of EV growth, how DeCharge keeps the user experience dead simple with a scan-and-pay web app, and why autonomous charging powered by crypto payment rails could be the next massive wave. We also get into the surprising EV adoption stories across India, China, Southeast Asia, Ethiopia, and beyond. Whether you're an EV owner frustrated by fragmented charging apps, a crypto builder looking for real-world use cases, or an investor trying to spot where energy infrastructure is heading, this conversation is packed with sharp thinking and hard-won lessons from the ground up. DISCLAIMERNothing mentioned in this podcast is investment advice and please do your own research. Brandon Sedloff and Brian Kosoy explore the transformation of retail real estate from distressed contrarian bet to institutional favorite. Kosoy, CEO of Sterling Organization, explains how his firm built a $4 billion vertically integrated shopping center platform by staying committed to retail through 15 years of headwinds—from the financial crisis through the retail apocalypse and COVID-19. He shares his unconventional path from failing out of Canadian schools to practicing real estate law in New York, then launching Sterling Organization in the summer of 2007, just as credit markets froze. They discuss: - Why vertical integration creates competitive advantages in tenant relationships and lease structuring that third-party management cannot replicate - The structural supply-demand imbalance driving a potential seven-year rent growth supercycle in grocery-anchored shopping centers - How being pigeonholed as "the shopping center guys" during a 15-year downturn created a durable moat as institutional capital returns to the sector - Why the average shopping center deal size makes it nearly impossible for large allocators to deploy $500 million quickly with quality managers - The difference between generating alpha in negative beta environments versus riding positive beta waves This episode examines how conviction through market cycles builds institutional platforms that can't be replicated by trend-followers or capital chasers. Michael Howell, CEO of CrossBorder Capital, an investment advisory firm, and author of Capital Wars, returns to The Julia La Roche Show for an in-studio episode. In this episode, Howell reveals money is flowing out of financial markets into the real economy, marking the end of Wall Street's era and the beginning of Main Street's turn. He warns the market is in a "speculation phase" with low quality returns built on narrow foundations—only AI and semiconductors are racing while most securities stagnate—and the next phase will be "turbulence" as liquidity slows and the bearish flattening yield curve continues. Howell details how the system has monetized with the Treasury refinancing $600 billion per week in short-term bills, notes there is "unquestionably way too much debt," and makes the contrarian call that the Fed will raise rates in the next 12 months because the economy is too strong at 7-8% nominal GDP growth. He positions commodities and energy as the place to be, argues gold is a hedge against monetary inflation (not CPI), and suggests the gold-oil ratio could imply oil prices of $200 per barrel.Thank you to our sponsor Monetary Metals. https://monetary-metals.com/julia Links:  Website: http://www.crossbordercapital.com/ Twitter/X https://x.com/crossbordercapSubstack: https://capitalwars.substack.com/ Book: https://www.amazon.com/Capital-Wars-Rise-Global-Liquidity/dp/30303929020:00 Opening - Money leaving financial markets for real economy1:29 Speculation phase - Low quality returns on narrow foundations6:49 Liquidity rolling over - Rate of change critical7:38 Money flowing from financial sector to real economy13:23 Debt refinancing phenomenon - 4 out of 5 transactions15:25 Way too much debt, only monetization is the way out16:40 China monetizing like Japan did with Abenomics19:32 US monetization already happening - $600B weekly debt refinancing24:28 MOVE index suppressed through treasury buybacks30:12 Kevin Warsh expectations for new Fed chair32:01 Inflation no longer transitory - Now illusionary35:48 Monetary inflation hurdle 7-8% per year37:26 What to own - Diversified into commodities, energy, gold40:10 Gold-oil ratio could mean oil $200 per barrel40:50 Contrarian call - Fed must raise rates in 12 months43:15 Find him at Capital Wars Substack

Max Schoening is head of product at Notion, where he's been especially effective at getting designers and PMs to ship code, prototype in the terminal, and launch extremely successful AI products. He was previously a PM at Google, ran design at Heroku, was VP of Design (and a part-time engineer) at GitHub, and is a two-time founder. He's one of the most AI-forward product leaders out there and one of the deepest thinkers on how AI changes how we build and use software. We discuss:1. What's most worked in getting designers and PMs to embrace AI2. Why agency—not skills—is the thing that separates people who thrive from those who fall behind3. How the first 10% of every project is now “free,” and what that means for product development4. Max's “tiny core” theory of great products: iPhone multitouch, the GitHub pull request, Notion blocks, Dropbox's menu bar icon5. Why the SaaSpocalypse is overstated6. Why the amount of software has exploded but the quality hasn't, and why that gap creates opportunity—Brought to you by:WorkOS—Make your app Enterprise Ready, with SSO, SCIM, RBAC, and more: https://workos.com/lennyVanta—Automate compliance, manage risk, and accelerate trust with AI: https://vanta.com/lenny—Episode transcript: https://www.lennysnewsletter.com/p/why-cultivating-agency-matters-more—Archive of all Lenny's Podcast transcripts: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/yxi4s2w998p1gvtpu4193/AMdNPR8AOw0lMklwtnC0TrQ?rlkey=j06x0nipoti519e0xgm23zsn9&st=ahz0fj11&dl=0—Where to find Max Schoening:• X: https://x.com/mschoening• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/max-schoening• Website: https://max.dev—Where to find Lenny:• Newsletter: https://www.lennysnewsletter.com• X: https://twitter.com/lennysan• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lennyrachitsky/—In this episode, we cover:(00:00) Introduction to Max Schoening(01:55) The origin story of designers coding at Notion(06:30) How much designers and PMs are shipping today(08:24) The balance between shipping code and strategic work(10:32) Why agency will help you thrive in the AI era(11:49) Examples of high agency at Notion(13:52) What we might lose as roles merge(15:56) Advice for developing agency(17:42) Malleable software explained(20:43) The Dieter Rams video and design philosophy(24:00) The SaaS apocalypse debate(28:25) How product building has changed in the past two years(30:27) What's next in how we build products(34:16) Token spend and ROI conversations(37:39) Getting people to change how they work(39:04) Max's AI stack(41:41) Which roles AI will transform next(44:26) When companies will start caring about ROI(48:38) Why Notion AI is so successful(51:47) How to ship more quickly while maintaining quality(56:40) Building taste through iterations(1:00:09) What matters most in building successful products(1:05:06) Using the jobs-to-be-done framework(1:07:28) Hot take on universal basic income(1:09:26) What Max would do with AGI(1:10:53) Contrarian corner(1:13:14) Failure corner(1:16:20) Advice for young people in Silicon Valley(1:19:20) Lightning round and final thoughts—Referenced: https://www.lennysnewsletter.com/p/why-cultivating-agency-matters-more—Production and marketing by https://penname.co/. In our latest Contrarian episode, Norm Eisen, Norm Ornstein, and Jen Rubin join Harry to assess new flashpoints in Trump's nonstop quest to escape accountability and his hasty efforts to claw free of his war in the Middle East. The group takes stock of Trump's stumbling attempts to find a deal with Iran, which seem likely to leave the U.S. weakened and isolated. The panel also weighs the bombshell state charges against an ICE agent and the odds that Trump could name two new Supreme Court justices before year's end.  Mentioned in this episode: The Contrarian:  https://contrarian.substack.com/ Norm Ornstein's podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dsrs-words-matter/id1420216970 The Robert Kagan article about America's changing place in the world: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/03/trump-national-security-greenland-spheres-of-interest/685673/  The profile of Justice Alito: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/samuel-alito-supreme-court-conservative/686756/  Norm Ornstein's kakistocracy article: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/10/american-kakistocracy/542391/ Learn more about your ad choices.
