Story of the Week (DR):Warner Bros. Discovery Reworks CEO Pay, Reducing David Zaslav's Massive Compensation DRDavid Zaslav will take a pay cut after Warner Bros. Discovery splits up—with a big hit to his bonusDavid Zaslav Is Getting a Pay CutWarner Bros to significantly slash CEO David Zaslav's pay packageWarner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav Pay to Drop After Company SplitDavid Zaslav's Pay To Be “Substantially” Lowered Ahead Of Split, WBD Says, But CEO Will Still Reap RewardsIf Zaslav hits 100% of his operational and financial goals in the first year after the split, his target pay will be $16.5mn, compared with $37mn in the current contract. If he hits 200% of the targets, it will be as high as $30mn, the company said on Monday. However, the bulk of Zaslav's future pay will be based on stock options after shareholders rebuked a model based on free cash flow generation. The securities filing made late on Monday said the beleaguered media boss would receive about 24mn in WBD shares that could be purchased for the current $10.16 price. If the share price were to double, the package could eventually be worth nearly $250mn.Two weeks after 60% of Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders rejected CEO David Zaslav's $52M pay plan, the Compensation Committee restructured his plan using Hollywood's latest CGI, special effects, and most seasoned stunt doubles: his new plan reduces his annual pay targets significantly–from $37M to $17M if he hits 100% of his targets–but the devil is in the details as he is eligible for $37M if he reaches 200% of his targets and is getting a massive option grant of 21 million shares at an extremely low strike price of around $10 per share, giving him the theoretical opportunity to make $1.4B if Warner Brothers' share price regains its 2021 high of $77.Boeing's longest-tenured director Lynn Good joins the Board of Morgan Stanley just two days after the crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in India killed more than 200 people.Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky says his company is a 'convenient scapegoat' as European cities protest overtourism“In Barcelona, housing prices rose 60% over the past decade, but Airbnb listings actually decreased. As the new Supreme Court term begins, the decisions and conduct of its last term have put a cloud over the judicial institution. Opinions extending the boundaries of presidential immunity and upending administrative law startled court watchers. And ethics questions about Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito helped push public opinion about the court to an all-time low. We'll talk to legal experts about the state of the court, the cases it will take up this year and what role the justices might play in deciding the 2024 presidential election. Guests: Vikram Amar, professor of law, UC Davis School of Law - He clerked for Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the United States Supreme Court. The Supreme Court kicked off its new term Monday by opting not take up two cases that could have major implications for reproductive rights. In one decision, the court rejected an appeal from an Alabama fertility clinic seeking to avoid a wrongful death lawsuit over the destruction of a couple's embryos. The other case it rejected was an appeal from the Biden administration over emergency abortions in Texas. With issues like trans rights, ghost guns and the potential for more election cases on the docket this term, Melissa Murray, co-host of Crooked's ‘Strict Scrutiny,' breaks down what we can expect from the justices in the coming months. And in headlines: Forecasters upgraded Hurricane Milton to a Category 5 storm as it barrels toward Florida's Gulf Coast, Vice President Kamala Harris reflected on the one-year anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel, and Georgia's top court revived the state's six-week abortion ban.Show Notes:Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

While schools overseas often start new academic years in August, September, or even February, in Japan, the new school year starts in April when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. This episode gathers various typical experiences associated with the start of a new school year, such as announcements of class assignments and homeroom teachers, and navigating relationships in new classes. In Japan, students spend an entire year with the same classmates and remove their shoes inside the school, which are cultural practices different from those abroad. Therefore, stories about class announcements and shoe lockers might be particularly unusual and interesting for our listeners. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: On Monday, the Supreme Court starts its next term. According to Jess Bravin of The Wall Street Journal one of the most noteworthy cases will be Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) v. Community Financial Services Association. The Court will hear oral argument in that case on Tuesday—and the Justices will be asked to decide whether the “bureau's independent funding mechanism,” absent Congressional approval, is constitutional. You can read more here: https://www.wsj.com/us-news/law/supreme-court-term-cases-36ddd9e7?mod=hp_lista_pos3 According to Zach Kessel of National Review, “California governor Gavin Newsom on Monday signed a bill repealing a law prohibiting physicians from sharing information with their patients that contradicts the prevailing scientific sentiment on Covid-19. The initial law, which Newsom signed in September 2022, violated doctors' First Amendment rights to free speech and Fourteenth Amendment rights to due process of law, critics say.” Could this move towards moderation be a sign that Newsom is at least considering a run in the 2024 presidential election? You can read Kessel's full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/newsom-repeals-california-law-prohibiting-doctors-from-sharing-unapproved-covid-information/ On Monday, former President Donald Trump arrived in New York for a civil trial in which New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that Trump-owned properties were dramatically, and fraudulently, over-valued on official documents.
