E926 The Cost of Always Being on Alert: How Hypervigilance Affects Home Life

Tactical Living

In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton explore the hidden toll that hypervigilance takes on first responders, their families and how to train your brain (Amazon Affiliate). Hypervigilance—the constant state of being on high alert—is a necessary survival tool on the job, but when it bleeds into home life, relationships, and mental health, it can lead to burnout, anxiety, and emotional disconnection. You'll learn how hypervigilance develops, five ways it impacts home life, and five strategies to manage it so that you can be present, engaged, and mentally healthy both on and off duty. 1. What is Hypervigilance, and Why Does it Happen? First responders are trained to scan for threats, anticipate danger, and remain constantly aware of their surroundings. This heightened awareness is critical on duty, but it doesn't just "turn off" when you get home. 2. Five Ways Hypervigilance Affects Home Life: 1. Difficulty Relaxing or Enjoying the Moment Example: You're at a family barbecue, but instead of enjoying the food and conversation, you're scanning for exits and watching every unfamiliar person. Why It's a Problem: Prevents true relaxation and connection with family and friends. 2. Overprotectiveness Toward Family Members Example: Your kids want to ride their bikes to a friend's house, but you've seen too much on the job, so you won't allow them to go anywhere alone. Why It's a Problem: Can create anxiety in children and make them fearful of the world. 3. Emotional Detachment in Relationships Example: After a long shift, your spouse tries to engage with you, but you respond with short answers or avoid deeper conversations. Why It's a Problem: Creates emotional distance that can damage intimacy and trust. 4. Sleep Disturbances and Chronic Fatigue Example: You hear a noise at night and immediately wake up in high-alert mode, struggling to fall back asleep. Why It's a Problem: Lack of quality rest leads to irritability, poor decision-making, and long-term health issues. 5. Trouble Transitioning Between Work and Home Example: You feel like you're still in work mode long after your shift has ended, constantly thinking about past calls or preparing for the next one. Why It's a Problem: Prevents mental and emotional recovery, leading to burnout and stress overload. 3. Five Strategies to Manage Hypervigilance and Improve Home Life: 1. Create a Transition Routine After Work Solution: Establish a ritual that signals to your brain that work is over (e.g., listening to music, working out, changing clothes, or taking a shower). Why It's Beneficial: Helps separate work from home life and reduces mental carryover. 2. Practice Mindfulness and Grounding Techniques Solution: Use deep breathing, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation to calm your nervous system. Why It's Beneficial: Helps shift your body out of high-alert mode and into a state of rest. 3. Set Boundaries with Work-Related Conversations at Home Solution: Give yourself a time limit for discussing stressful work topics at home, then shift focus to family and personal life. Why It's Beneficial: Reduces constant work-related stress and improves relationships. 4. Allow Yourself to Be Vulnerable with Loved Ones Solution: Instead of bottling up emotions, communicate with your spouse and family about how hypervigilance affects you. Why It's Beneficial: Strengthens emotional connection and helps others understand your behaviors. 5. Seek Professional Help When Needed Solution: If hypervigilance is severely impacting your relationships, sleep, or mental health, consider counseling or peer support programs. Why It's Beneficial: Provides healthy coping mechanisms and ensures you're not carrying the burden alone. 4. How First Responders Can Find Balance Between Awareness and Relaxation: Discover ways to stay alert when necessary without allowing hypervigilance to dominate daily life. 5. The Importance of Building a Healthy Mindset at Home: Learn how to mentally "clock out" so you can be fully present with your family and recharge before your next shift. Why This Matters: Hypervigilance is a necessary tool on duty, but it shouldn't control your life at home. By learning how to transition, relax, and reconnect, first responders can protect their mental health, strengthen their relationships, and create a better work-life balance. Listen now to discover how to manage hypervigilance and reclaim peace in your home life!

Leave Wellness + Wisdom a Review on Apple Podcasts Power Quotes From The Show The Liver Is Processing Collective Trauma "We're moving from a place as a human species that was so mentalized into feeling our body more. No wonder the liver is under so much strain because it's being asked to do a lot. It's being asked to process our cumulative trauma as a culture, as a society, as well as massive amounts of chemical toxins. The amount of things that people have coming up to be cleansed and purified matches the collective energy on the planet at the same time." - Dr. Kevin Preston Why Detox Is Necessary "There are a lot of toxins in the environment and our bodies are going to have to respond to that in some way. We are built to detox a lot, but when we stress our detox pathways over and over and over again, by overwhelming amounts of toxins coming in, they get fatigued. They need a rest. They need a break. But if we don't give the body a break of incoming toxins, it's not long before those filters get stuck." - Dr. Kevin Preston Combining Different Healing Modalities "Let's get you doing a bit of breathwork. Let's get you seeing a somatic therapist because you're holding so much rage and anger right now. Your liver is like a clenched fist that I could try and soften with some herbs, but you're probably going to have a much greater and faster effect addressing the nervous system. And then let's start processing some of the physical stuff. Let's do some acupuncture, get a massage, or maybe get some lymphatic drainage." - Dr. Kevin Preston Links From Today's Show  Dr. Kevin Preston 597 Dr. Kevin Preston | The Emotional Roots of Disease: How Progressive Chinese Medicine Liberates Stuck Energy + Heals Generational Trauma Atomic Habits by James Clear The Gene Keys by Richard Rudd Consumer Reports urges USDA to remove Lunchables From National School Lunch Program 624 Teal Swan | Ancestral Healing: Multidimensional Genetics, Conscious Parenting + The Impossible Task of Single Mothers 481 Scott Jackson | Rewire Yourself: How To Create A Life You Love With Freedom From Subconscious Sabotage Zach Bush MD Charles Eisenstein The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho 692 Paul Chek | Spirit Gym: How To Find The Truth of Your Soul + Live Your Dream Josh's Trusted Products | Up To 40% Off Shop All Products Biohacking MANNA Vitality - Save 20% with code JOSH20 HigherDOSE - 15% off with the code JOSH15 PLUNGE - $150 off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE Pulsetto - Save 20% with code "JOSH" SaunaSpace - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 Ultrahuman Ring Air - 10% off with code JOSH Wellness Test Kits Choose Joi - Save 50% on all Lab Tests with JOSH Blokes - Save 50% on all Lab Tests with JOSH FertilityWize Test by Clockwize - Save 10% with code JOSH Tiny Health Gut Tests - $20 off with discount code JOSH20 VIVOO Health Tests - Save 30% off with code JOSH SiPhox Health Blood Test - Save 15% off with code JOSH Nutrition + Gut Health Organifi - 20% off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE SEED Synbiotic - 25% off with the code 25JOSHTRENT

You are human, so allow yourself room for error.    What are those daily things that we can do? Such as drinking a liter of water before bed, blocking those workouts in your schedule, or having an appointment with yourself 3 days a week.    Listen to your soul [10:59]   When you feel a certain desire, one that is nagging at you, listen to it. It's there for a reason. It's meant to happen for you. But you need to be the one to make it a reality. Make time for what it is you want to achieve.    There's never going to be a right time to make a change.   What's Your Relationship with Food [18:20]   Examine your eating habits, look at your relationship with food. We all placate ourselves by reasoning with ourselves. Whether we're overeating because we don't want to waste food or we are invited out for dinner at a 5-star restaurant, there is always a way around these excuses.   When it comes to a choice of our own, I think to myself, ‘okay, who is living and feeling the consequence of my choice?    Make a Connection: 3 Secrets Men Wish You Knew *Free Download*  Are You Making These Unconscious Mistakes With Men? *Free Training*  Ready To Take Control Of Your Dating Life?  Book A Call With Us Join Leah's Reclaim Coaching Program Leah Van Dolder Website

Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 577 Can kava help your mental and spiritual growth? Cameron George, founder of Tru Kava, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom podcast, episode 577, to share how kava can expand your consciousness and give you the same benefits as alcohol without actually being drunk, why people seek altered states of consciousness, and how we are disconnected from nature. "Indigenous people see kava as a psychological and mental medicine that builds mental health, mental fortitude, and emotional maturity over time. The medicine opens up the pathway and the doorway for you to increase your senses to be able to develop as a human. They see it as a developer of the mind and emotions. They see it as something that helps to bring out that authentic existential core in a person and to manifest itself collectively." - Cameron George 20% OFF TRU KAVA Every day should be your best day....make the most of every day with TRU KAVA products that help promote feelings of openness, calm, energy, and focus. This week we're bringing you a very different show! We're bringing you a full hour of universal, channeled, wisdom to help you on your betrayal recovery journey. Lora channels a group of entities known as “The Librarians.” The Librarians are keepers of universal wisdom for the earth plane and their messages are meant for seekers of light. Take it slow, pause when you need to pause, and if you like what you hear, follow Lora on Facebook or YouTube where she goes live every Tuesday, with a new, live channel.   Dec.13, 2022 Truth lives inside of us all. And while none of us share the exact same truth, we all share the knowledge that our truth is important. Which is where things get difficult! While it's important for us to share what's going on inside with others, to validate our experience and to create the kinds of close relationships that we want, communication is difficult! Words are limited and cannot explain our unique perspectives, textures, and feelings. Therefore, trying to explain what's going on inside in a way that others can understand is impossible! Yes we try. And we get angry when others don't understand… Oneness comes from the shared understanding that we are all alone in our unique perspectives. That we are all unable to communicate our feelings, wisdom, and knowingness adequately. Oneness comes from being aware and honoring that we are all “right” and we are all centered in our own hearts, and that we are all alone with our own insides, and that our connection is through our unique aloneness.   Dec. 20, 2022 A piece for peace! This week's message is about the deeper meaning and message behind Winter Solstice and darkness. While reaching outside of ourselves for light is fine because we all need inspiration at times, the task of becoming spirit Actually awakened is about cultivating the light that's within, not seeking external light During Winter Solstice we are in the dark for a reason and that reason is so we can find our own light. And the key is not stressing about being “good enough” or “enlightened enough” either. All we need is a PIECE of our light to find PEACE! We don't need to illuminate the whole world, we just need to illuminate and sustain ourselves. Because Peace on Earth is attained when everyone on the planet illuminates their own hearts!   Dec. 27, 2022 Go in Grace. Go with the Flow. Allow Yourself to Receive. This week's message is about EASE and how we like to make things harder than they are. Ease is our birthright. Worlds (and humans!) are created with ease. Yes, there is the occasional cataclysmic event, but the process flows with ease, always. And when difficulties arise, life flows around those difficulties. Worthiness is not a part of it. We like to make things more difficult to prove to ourselves that we are worthy of being chosen, of receiving, of enjoying. and if you WANT to keep playing that game, you can. Just know that it is a game, and you don't have to play it. You can just flow. That's what GRACE is. It's the right to receive without being worthy. It's the right to love and live and enjoy even though you don't “deserve” to love and live and enjoy. Because the Truth (capitol T truth!) is that everyone deserves it. Nothing is conditional. Nothing is separate from God/Goddess. *Post-channel message: Look at our language around God. In the channel, Lora said he/she referring to God, and then typed God/Goddess. God/Goddess is the whole. Humans have created the separation of the whole into two-God and Goddess. Then humans stress out around gender! Life is genderless. Life is whole and complete. Life is without division. Ease and flow and grace are without division. Struggle and strife are division. Look around, it's everywhere! We love to struggle and overcome and fight and declare ourselves “right” so we can prove our own worth. Just know that it's not necessary. That's why GRACE was given to humans. We only need to receive this one gift if we want to live like Jesus/God/Goddess.   Jan. 3, 2023 When we realize the inevitability of “bad things,” it allows us to partake fully in the sweetness of life. This week the Librarians want us to become aware of the cloud of fear that surrounds our hearts and planet, and instead of continuing to build up our defenses to protect against bad things that might (or might not) happen, to realize that “bad things” happening is inevitable. Not to traumatize or scare us, but to realize that protecting ourselves fully is impossible. We have limited control. Yes, we can plan and save or be safe and take precautions and that is good, but we cannot prevent, anticipate, or protect against everything When we realize the inevitability of “bad things” happening in our lives, we become more able to partake in the sweetness of life and we enjoy ourselves more.   Jan 10, 2023 Feeling our feelings is what living is all about. It doesn't matter if they are good feelings, bad feelings, or anything in between. The act of feeling is “fun” and is what being a human is all about. So many humans suppress or deny feelings because they don't want to feel. Yet, in spirit form, one thing we miss is the ability to feel fully and freely! Not that getting caught up in drama is advisable, but please stop being so terrified of feelings that you create unnecessary drama as a distraction from feeling “real” feelings! Yes, we can (and should) be happier than we are. Life is meant to be fun, it's a great game of creation. However, fear of feeling things we don't want to feel is one of the biggest blocks to feeling good. Ironic, right?   Jan. 17, 2023 This week the Librarians want to talk about the concept of “closure” and how it's really not a thing. Nor is it a thing we'd want if there was! When we seek “closure” what we are really doing is refusing to admit or accept or acknowledge something. Something that is a part of us as well as a part of the world. “Seeking closure” is really us saying, “I don't want to deal with that. I want to ignore it. I don't want it in my life. I want to cut it off.” But all of life is continuous. All of life is integrated. All of life is connected. There is no death or ending, there is only transition. Which means there is no closure! Instead of resisting or seeking to “fix” something, why not embrace it instead? Embrace the uncertainty, the transition, the ugliness, or the supposed problem? After all, we all say we want oneness and connection. So why do we resist by constantly clamoring about “closure” instead?   Jan. 24, 2023 This week the Librarians want to talk about Connection and Communion with others. Loneliness is prevalent on the planet. Yet we are easily able to communicate with others. We just get too locked into our preferred method of communication! The deepest, most profound connections are made by going within and connecting from the heart or mind. Not by using our 5 senses and communicating with others through touch, voice, text, or words. Death does not separate us. Neither does language, distance, or access to any sort of tools. If we want to feel true oneness, the way to connection is within.   Jan 31, 2023 The only way to address evil in the world is by looking at the ugliness without us. We all cross the line, we all do harm, we all lie, cheat, and steal in some way. When we justify our actions or think we are somehow better than another because we didn't do “as much” harm, we perpetuate evil. It's only when we acknowledge evil or wrongdoing within us that we can begin to change the world.   Feb. 2, 2023 The power of the fresh start cannot be underestimated. There is virtue in a fresh start. Even when you are building something, or building from something that someone else has created, a fresh start will benefit you. There is so much guilt and shame around waste, but nothing, no creation is ever wasted. Whenever you feel like a fresh start is in order, take it! There is no shame. In the long run a fresh start will always be easier than struggling to fix or use the old. Why bang your head? Wipe it away, NO, bless it away! It was your first draft, and it was glorious in its own right. It's the right to love and live and enjoy even though you don't "deserve" to love and live and enjoy. We love to struggle and overcome and fight and declare ourselves "right" so we can prove our own worth. Just know that it's not necessary. That's why GRACE was given to humans. We only need to receive this one gift if we want to live like Jesus/God/Goddess. Jan. 3, 2023 When we realize the inevitability of "bad things," it allows us to partake fully in the sweetness of life. This week the Librarians want us to become aware of the cloud of fear that surrounds our hearts and planet, and instead of continuing to build up our defenses to protect against bad things that might (or might not) happen, to realize that "bad things" happening is inevitable. Not to traumatize or scare us, but to realize that protecting ourselves fully is impossible. We have limited control. Yes, we can plan and save or be safe and take precautions and that is good, but we cannot prevent, anticipate, or protect against everything When we realize the inevitability of "bad things" happening in our lives, we become more able to partake in the sweetness of life and we enjoy ourselves more. Jan 10, 2023 Feeling our feelings is what living is all about. It doesn't matter if they are good feelings, bad feelings, or anything in between. The act of feeling is "fun" and is what being a human is all about. So many humans suppress or deny feelings because they don't want to feel. Yet, in spirit form, one thing we miss is the ability to feel fully and freely! Not that getting caught up in drama is advisable, but please stop being so terrified of feelings that you create unnecessary drama as a distraction from feeling "real" feelings! Yes, we can (and should) be happier than we are. Life is meant to be fun, it's a great game of creation. However, fear of feeling things we don't want to feel is one of the biggest blocks to feeling good. Ironic, right? Jan. 17, 2023 This week the Librarians want to talk about the concept of "closure" and how it's really not a thing. Nor is it a thing we'd want if there was! When we seek "closure" what we are really doing is refusing to admit or accept or acknowledge something. Something that is a part of us as well as a part of the world. "Seeking closure" is really us saying, "I don't want to deal with that. I want to ignore it. I don't want it in my life. I want to cut it off." But all of life is continuous. All of life is integrated. All of life is connected. There is no death or ending, there is only transition. Which means there is no closure! Instead of resisting or seeking to "fix" something, why not embrace it instead? Embrace the uncertainty, the transition, the ugliness, or the supposed problem? After all, we all say we want oneness and connection. So why do we resist by constantly clamoring about "closure" instead? When we justify our actions or think we are somehow better than another because we didn't do "as much" harm, we perpetuate evil. Now start again and do it differently! Build a Business, Not a Job Many people dream of working for themselves, being their own boss. They'd have the freedom to only take on the pets they love while turning away the clients that frustrate them. What they don't realize, though, is that there is a huge difference between building a business and being self-employed. Business owners scale their income. Self-employed people trade dollars for hours. Business owners leverage the skills and talents of others. Self-employed people rely only on their own skills. Discouraged yet? Don't be. Every business owner started out self-employed. It's a very personal choice if you want to continue to stay there. These tips will help you build a sustainable business instead of just another job. Don't Try to Do It All Yourself Building a sustainable business requires that you leverage the talents and time of others. While it might seem cost-effective to simply do everything yourself—especially in the start-up phase when you likely have more time than money—it's a path to burnout and stress. Instead, separate your tasks into those that you love and are especially suited for (such as marketing or customer service) and those you dislike and aren't good at. (like cleaning kennels or book keeping) Then make a solid plan to get those that you aren't good at off your list of things to do. If you feel like you can't afford to outsource it all right now, start with what you tend to procrastinate the most on, even if it's just a few hours each month. Don't Allow Yourself to Work All the Time The trouble with working for yourself is that you live to work since there's always work to do, it's easy to find yourself working every available moment—often to the detriment of your family relationships. You can help avoid this by: Setting—and maintaining—clear work hours Having “groomer” hours vs “office” or “manager” hours Scheduling time for family and other activities Taking time for yourself, and not making excuses why you can't get any YOU time. Vacations and Downtime Are Important Don't create a business that requires you to be “at the shop” every day. At the start, you may need to be available more, but you should definitely be planning for the day when you can be “off the grid” for extended periods of time. Have trusted employees or possibly a manager who can handle things when you're not available. Leverage automation tools and systems that don't require a person to be there. Create repeatable systems so you're not always re-inventing the wheel While you might not be able to hit the road with no internet access for weeks at a time, at the very least you should be able to reduce your workload to a daily check-in. Sound impossible? It's not. With some forethought and planning, you can create a team—and the systems they need—to successfully run your business without becoming overwhelmed and overworked.

Did you know that your brain doesn't know the difference between what you imagine and what has actually happened? It's true! Neuroscience has proven it. Athletes and other types of performers have used the power of their imagination to overcome challenges and reach their goals for years. Why shouldn't you? So, let's do an exercise. Start by closing your eyes, but don't fall asleep. It's the kind of eye-closing where you're entirely aware of everything going on around you, but you're present in your own mind. Some may call it dreaming, but the difference is this kind of dreaming is active. You're going to envision what you want your life to look like. When you close your eyes and start thinking about what you want out of your life, what are the first things that come to mind? Hold onto those because we're going to bring those dreams to life with these three steps: Allow Yourself to Dream Your eyes are closed, your mind is wandering, and all of a sudden, it's put to a halt. It's in our nature to be hesitant about dreaming big because we don't want to fail or get hurt. But when you close down your dreams, you make it impossible to shoot for the stars. The next time you find yourself sucked into a vortex of dreaming, allow yourself to indulge in it. Then, make those dreams concrete by thinking of the specifics. For example, let's say your big dream is to run a race. Dive deeper into that dream. Think about the type of competition, how long it is, and what it will look like to cross the finish line. 2. Visualize It We talked about the finish line—let's really explore that. It's one thing to think about a dream as a remote possibility or something that would be fun to accomplish. It's another thing to visualize what it would feel like to reach that big dream. Actually feel the excitement and pride in your body. When you're thinking about the big-picture goals you have, think about them more precisely. Ask these questions: What am I wearing? How old am I? What does it feel like to say, “I did it”? How do I celebrate? Who is celebrating with me? Those are just a few questions, but the list goes on! Visualizing gets you from a mere possibility to a reality. “Everybody that's on this journey is just as challenged as we are. And it can be one of the most empowering beautiful experiences when we share our pain and what we've been through if we intentionally create greatness with it.” -Mallisa J. Vogel   Failure is not an identity. It is a chapter that we can flip into an unexpected plot twist. It is a natural part of life but it doesn't define who we are as people or our potential as leaders.  The first time we fail at something, it may feel like a big deal. But if there is one thing that life has taught us, it is that failure can actually lead to great things. Mallisa J. Vogel aka “MJ Vogel Inspire” learned to turn her darkest moments into her strength. Life was hard for Mallisa growing up in an economically challenged household with so much violence, lacking education, and being diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a congenital condition tha affects brain structure and spinal cord. We spend so much time fighting our emotions when we could understand ourselves so much better & feel confident in who we are if we just learned to accept & honor our feelings. I have 5 easy ways to start learning to accept & honor your emotions today!Show Notes:Fake it till you make is one of those phrases I used to live & die by because I never wanted to acknowledge how I was truly feeling. I would fake whatever the most appropriate emotion was in the moment & just get through the experience. I didn't want to expose any type of vulnerability for fear someone would use it against me or it would make me appear less than. And when you are slinging punches at all the trauma trying to take you out, you are not about to expose any weak spots. That was another thing, being vulnerable felt weak to me when I was younger. I remember there were times that I did share emotional things with others, but it was such an awkward interaction & never felt natural to me because I wasn't taught how to properly deal with my emotions. And since it didn't feel right, I didn't end up doing it often. Eventually, all that ended up blowing up in my face & I was forced to face my emotions. We spend a lot of time running away from our emotions. We think we can just brush it all under the rug, pretend like we aren't feeling what we're feeling & think it will all be fine. But think about all the experiences, people, events that trigger a reaction in you, think about all the things that make you uncomfortable but you don't know why. Have you ever asked yourself where all this comes from? It comes from not accepting your emotions & trying to throw those away. And instead of those feelings actually going away, these instead get stored away somewhere deep in our minds to bubble up later at a very inopportune time.Trying to hide your feelings, trying to ignore what you're feeling, trying to pretend you feel differently than you actually do is what I thought it would be helpful to talk about accepting & honoring your emotions.Today I'm going to share with you 5 Ways on How to Accept & Honor Your Emotions:Don't Ignore Your Emotions & Allow Yourself to Feel Emotions Be Honest About How You're Feeling Don't Judge How You're Feeling Remember Your Emotions Are Just as Important as Everyone Else's Get Support with Your Emotions Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo.Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or check out my website, www.sabrinajoy.com where you can listen to all my episodes, send me messages & sign up for my bi-weekly newsletter https://www.sabrinajoy.com/newsletter!Join the NEW RealPositiveGirl Community group on Facebook!https://www.facebook.com/groups/realpositivegirlSupport the show

“We stop ourselves from feeling fear because we're uncomfortable. We stop ourselves from feeling happy because we're uncomfortable… So it all comes from the willingness to get uncomfortable.” -Amber Fuhriman   When we admire other people, it may seem like their lives are better than ours. We can't relate to their daily activities, the things they own, or the positions they aspire to. But the real question is, is this what we truly desire?    What we should focus on is not just the career we want, but the life we want. We may have to work a lot in order to have material wealth, but we learn to sacrifice many things for it, including our happiness. The life we want can start with our very selves— how are we at the moment?    In this episode, Daniel sits with Success Development Solutions founder, Amber Fuhriman to discuss two opposite factors that hinder us from creating the life we want: fear and happiness. Well, “fear” can keep us from chasing our dreams headstrong, but “happiness”...? Amber and Daniel answer that question as well as inspiring and stirring reasons why perfectionism is not the way to go, why “unbelievable” is an unfriendly word, why a busy life is not a valid reason for putting off what makes you happy, and how being vulnerable helps you overcome fear and guilt, and improve your health and life as a whole.    The ultimate life we want should be rich with meaning and fulfillment. In this episode, our guest is Sara Lovestyle. Sara is a Lifestyle Influencer and Social Media Expert who inspires power at the intersection of health, beauty, and consciousness through her “Lovestyle Movement!” She champions The Lovestyle Movement by channeling her fitness goals to elevate as a Lovestyle Warrior in all areas of family, purpose, and play for the everyday modern woman. Sara has crossed many finish lines in ways that most people wouldn't get past and still create something great in life, let alone give it back to the world.  Today, she shares her journey of being a mother and creating an impact on others.   [1:52] Why should we listen to you? I have this strange ability to make you believe that you are the exception because my faith is so important to me. We live in a really tough world right now where people need encouragement, love, and compassion. This is where the lifestyle part of my brand comes from. I love to pour into people. If we're having a conversation, the idea that something is a dream isn't possible. I'll probably bully you into believing that it's real because I am going to challenge you, but also have a conversation that is hopefully enlightening, where we can learn from one another and share experiences. [3:20] How would you explain who you are? Many times, we go into either characteristic, or people will go into their titles. But the reality is who you are at the core. For me, I am compassionate, kind, smart, and brilliant. I believe in doing items every single day. But also, I am faith-filled. I truly believe in everything I tell myself, even if I don't always believe it. Having that conversation about everything I am, even the parts that aren't necessarily the best, is okay, because those are who I am. [4:45] Self-Affirmations My parents are incredible. Very early on, my father would instill in me, “Listen, you are kind, you're smart, you are brilliant. You tell yourself this stuff every single day until you believe it.” Then you become an adult, and you realize life is an interesting journey. I do affirmations every single morning for 10 minutes. It may sound dull, but I have them written on my mirror and my vanity, in my bathroom, and my office. If I ever have moments where I'm not feeling beautiful, I can look up and tell myself I am beautiful. [11:39] What was your journey to getting a message refined that resonated? I started as a beauty influencer because I thought I would like it. That was the cool thing to do six years ago. I realized quickly that the power was in my storytelling. The second I started talking, everything changed. People were receptive. My brand is a lifestyle brand because the fitness element is important because I was overweight and heavy during my heart attack. As a mom, there's the self-care element where I needed to give and give, and I forgot about myself. Then there's the part about telling the story of motherhood and that journey, and talking about my son was hands down the most difficult part for me. Everyone was receptive, and the brand grew quickly because I didn't have to pretend to be something I wasn't. [15:52] Nothing is Impossible I was afraid of imposter syndrome. I was afraid that I would not be accepted if I could be honest because I started as an influencer. The reality is that you can influence one person, or have one follower, and still be identified as an influencer. I want to show people what is possible, truly limitless. [17:49] Journey of investment return What's interesting is it started with the investment of a relationship. There's also an assumption that an investment has to be money, and it's not. I realized quickly that I could use the leverage of my platform to get a board seat. I could leverage a company that maybe did not have the funds to pay me as a creator. But you have some shares, though. There are so many aspects of an influencer that could begin. But there are routes to getting a seat at that table. It was about bringing someone to have a relationship that could be mutually beneficial for the company. [22:02] Allow Yourself to Fail We are so afraid of taking risks. And we're afraid of what people think. We are afraid of what if it doesn't come back? Or what if I don't come back from it? My dad used to ask me as a child, and it used to get on my nerves, and he would ask me, “What did you fail out today?” And it used to make me so mad. But what he knew that I didn't realize at the time is that I never gave myself the opportunity to fail. [26:40] What Shifted Sara The catalyst for my ultimate shift was my divorce. That's the one piece I've never talked about. I know that it is important that I create a stable life for my children. But was I okay with this thing that happened to me? Or am I going to allow it to happen through me? And it's not that it's easy. And it's not that life isn't hard. It's not that there aren't hardships. The scariest element for me is to be at the end of my life and be filled with regrets. I refused to be that person. My option at that point was to continue to dive deep into my faith, build my confidence, do my items, have my prayer time be in my word, and take risks. [32:59] What is “Lovestyle?” It's not the love of clothing. It's not the love of a makeup style. It's how do I choose to live my life every single day? Can I choose to live in love and compassion and kindness, in awareness in the people I'm interacting with, whether that's somebody at Starbucks or wherever at the grocery store? Am I living my lifestyle? Am I living the thing that I call my lifestyle? And it's a daily reminder: have I done an act of kindness today? Or have I been selfish? [34:25] I don't think balance is real. But we do the best that we can. And I hope that people choose their lifestyles when they come to me or when they meet the brand or me or any work that I've done is that they choose their lifestyle. I think it's more important that people have a feeling when they meet you than an actual name. I don't care about titles, but how did I make you feel today? How did the brand make you feel about yourself? Were you encouraged? Do you feel self-love? Do you feel poured into your faith? Do you feel spiritually motivated? Do you feel challenged? Those are all the things that I want people to feel when they meet me or go to the brand. [38:17] What is that abundance you're trying to get for your audience? The first is internal. I'm not a therapist, but I believe in internal work. The second thing is I want to know what monetizing looks like to you because it could be 50,000, 25,000, 100,000, or even seven figures. What does that look like to you? I also want to expand people's ideas of how we get there. The thought that an influencer could become an investor wasn't a thing when I started. [42:07] What promise did God make to the world when He created you? I will make an impact. I will create change and be the mother of all mothers. And that is what I was created to do. That is who I am. I am made to impact. I am made to be a change-maker. I am made to go against the current and show what can be, but also leave the door open. [43:15] I don't want to eat by myself. Life is not meant to be done alone. We fill the table, and we eat together. I cannot be selfish. People need to go and expand that table, and then it continues. So how do I, in my life, expand the impact that's so far beyond me that it has nothing to do with me. And I know that that is that's my purpose. Key Quotes [13:23 – 13:49] “I was struggling, not knowing how to voice how I was feeling about having a special needs child. Now I can because I feel seen and heard because the idea and the perception of who I was and who I am, weren't the same. And people were incredibly accepting the more I shared them, the more real I got.” [21:29 – 21:48] “Failure is a part of the journey. It just is what it is. But every one of those failures was a lesson to teach me what not to do the next time. One thing that all entrepreneurs have in common is we're not afraid to fail. It just is what it is. It's part of the journey.” [31:08 – 31:15] “Don't avoid the feelings, have them. But pick yourself back up. And at some point, you tell yourself, okay, now what? And what is next?” Learn more about Sara: Website: https://www.saralovestyle.com/ Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/saralovestyle Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUUsC0jNry2rNxpqUFgaU2Q

It's the passion, that we have a message out there of compassion, as a collective.” - Giacomo Marchese   “Some of the bad habits will just disappear, some of them will stick. And as you discover which one to stick in, you start to ask yourself, why you look at your look at, like, what's triggering that, and you do a little bit of that work. But good habits are simple. And it starts with the basics.” - Giacomo Marchese   “Sometimes when you're a little too flexible, you start to make excuses for yourself. And it can be hard to get out of that kind of cycle. So if you say to yourself, like my goal is not negotiable, then the logical process is that you will find a path to get there that won't consume you. And it will be a healthy path. And you'll still get the same exact results, probably better because you won't be stressed out.” - Giacomo Marchese       Connect with Giacomo   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/musclesbybrussels/ (https://www.instagram.com/musclesbybrussels/)  https://www.veganproteins.com/ (https://www.veganproteins.com/)  Plant Built Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/PlantBuilt/ (https://www.instagram.com/PlantBuilt/)  https://www.plantbuilt.com/ (https://www.plantbuilt.com/)  https://www.veganstrong.com/ (https://www.veganstrong.com/)      About me My name is Maxime Sigouin; I am the founder of Fit Vegan Coaching and the Fit Vegan Blueprint program's creator. Happy S.H.I.T (So Happy It's Thursday) day my friends! Welcome to Episode 31 where we are going to tell you how we are going to be taking some of the advice we have been giving over the last 30 episodes so that we can find the good in our own grief this summer. With coming off of quarantine and the world slowly opening up, we both have extremely busy summers with family, travel plans, etc etc. and we don't want to miss a thing. Because of our tremendous losses, we know how fleeting life is and we want to be 100% present for these upcoming plans. Soooo, we are going to be taking a few weeks off of recording but do not worry, we have big plans to come back with some great content to help take the information you have learned from these first 30 episodes and APPLY them to your everyday life. We are here if you need us! If you have just found us, then please go back and listen to our episodes (there are 30 of them for you to binge!) and if you have been with us since the beginning, thank you so much! We can't wait to be back with you to start Season 2! In this episode, you will hear: -How and why we are taking our own self-care advice and taking some time off from the podcast this summer -What our vision is for Season 2  -The reminder that while grief never goes away, we all have a choice to make and if we choose to find the good in it, it will make our lives so much better Do you have ideas for anything you would like us to discuss in Season 2? Today we are joined by Daisy Eckman who is going to share her story that is different from the guests that we have had in the past. Her story is not about losing an actual human being but of having to lose herself in order to move on after being violated in high school. She is now a rising sophomore in college and is wise beyond her years. Her courage and insightfulness is so inspiring. We are so appreciative to have her on the show to share her powerful, beautiful, and messy story with us. We can all learn something from this. This episode is a must listen if you have your own children or have any interaction with kids- especially middle and high schoolers. You may want to share this story with your daughters and sons so you can have conversations about respecting boundaries and the damaging effects of peer pressure. In this episode, you will hear: -How we learned of Daisy's difficult story  -Her experience in a new high school, how she tried to fit in, and how she was sexually violated -How she had to let go and mourn the loss of her old self in order to move on to a healthier place Does this story resonate with you? Do you have kids that need to hear this? Let us know on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/goodgriefpeople/ by commenting on this episode post or send us a DM.
