Pete is the host of the Future Self Podcast and one of today's most recognisable practitioners of high performance psychology and leadership. He is also well known for his expertise as resident life coach on GMTV. Let's get to know Pete better. What You'll Learn:Why most people see a future they don't wantWhy we often are not the person to be able to help those closest to us with their personal developmentHow to find a safe space for yourself to unravel the professional and the personal Should you be public about your experiences when going through tough times? What we need more of right now to be able to growAs Pete says, look for a future when you don't necessarily see one. Look at life from your perspectives and be curious about it. Because that's the best way to grow. In this week's episode, I chat with Rebecca Campbell, a bestselling author, mystic and creative. I came across Rebecca's work a number of years ago and have been fortunate enough to attend her live events and be part of her membership. She is a true spiritual teacher for modern times. Rebecca introduces us to the concept of embodiment and what this truly means. We hear her journey through her life with embodiment, with her feeling more embodied in her younger years through sports and moving away from it as she came into early adulthood and her awakening that brought her to this work. We discuss how living in this modern world can see a disconnect from spirituality and how living at a speed faster than nature leaves us feeling stress and pressure. Rebecca weaves ways that we can access the sacred in everyday life into our conversation so that we can all begin to slow down and experience less pressure. Key takeaways: Lived experience at a cellular level is how we embody divine / saved energy. Change is a certainty in life so anything that can help us recognise constant change is helpful. In the West spirituality is seen as other worldly rather than part of us. Intuition is pointless unless you act on it. Extending the sacred into everyday life will help us to make a shift away from stress. Rebecca introduces us to a beautiful way to access the sacred every day and I would love to hear from you to find out how you access the sacred daily. About Rebecca: Rebecca Campbell is an international bestselling writer, poet, healer, ritualist, spiritual teacher, visionary and mystic who has been featured in Vogue, The Sunday Times, Oprah.com, Psychologies Magazine.
Today we dive into a particular plant medicine, mescaline, the active ingredient in San Pedro (Wachuma). Dr. Isabel Sharkar is a naturopathic doctor and the co-founder of Indigo Integrative Health Clinic in Washington, D.C. Dr. Isabel, who I call “Izzy” throughout the interview given our personal connecction, has been serving the community in health restoration and body optimization for over a decade. She is known as a beauty expert and has some interesting insights for us on purging, healing, beauty, and anti-aging. Izzy beams through to us from Portugal, where many plant medicines have been decriminalized. We summarize our discussion with 10 powerful mantras about healing, be that through plant medicine or other techniques Izzy mentions including health food, water, hot/cold therapy, detoxificcation, meditation, vagal nerve stimulation, and simply being in nature. Mantra #1: The pandemic has created polarization and separation. We need a way out… see Mantra #2. Mantra #2: Be present, breathe, listen, bring in love and remember the ultimate desire for connection. Mantra #3: True healing happens on all levels: mind, body, and soul. We reference the books, When the Body Says No (https://smile.amazon.com/When-Body-Says-Understanding-Stress-Disease/dp/1630262560/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1644009563&sr=1-) and The Body Keeps the Score (https://smile.amazon.com/Body-Keeps-Score-Healing-Trauma/dp/0670785938/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1644009654&sr=1-1) Mantra #4: When the student is ready, the teacher appears (this is true for plant medicine as a master teacher). Mantra #5: Carrying around years and pounds of emotional baggage is NOT a good look! (Purging and healing can make you look ten years younger!). Mantra #6: San Pedro is a master teacher (plant); It is considered “grandfather”. Mantra #7: San Pedro can allow what so many of us need in this day and age: movement, being in nature, and the slowing down of time. Mantra #8: Mescaline (the active ingredient in San Pedro) has many healing properties (supports immune function, anti-microbal, supportive in healing the gut lining, reduction in alchohol abuse, reduction in suicidal thoughtts, activiates seratonin and dopamine). Mantra #9: Integration is key and takes time. See the previous episode with Sam Liebowitz where we talk extensively about integration: https://makeeverythingfun.com/radio/ep116-sam-liebowitz/ Mantra #10: It all starts with intention. Absolutely the best way to start a day. Emma Stroud, a comedy performer, speaker, MC, speaker mentor, coach and clown.Clown? I asked her about this and she so eloquently described the meaning of a clown.Brought me back to the days when I tried to be a class clown and ended up with detentions. So I stopped. I will say I really enjoyed it though.Emma didn't stop. She has made a career of making people laugh, think and play.We so often forget to play. It's my favorite thing to do, and I have been thought of as weird as an adult who doesn't want to adult all the time.I believe we all have a child in us that still wants to play, and I love that Emma reflects my beliefs.Does it take away the adulting, the pains we go through in life? No. However, humor makes things better.Thank you, in the your endearing name "Em", as you referred yourself to, for agreeing to be a guest. Truly a beautiful message to my listeners. And make sure you get her book! Coming September 26th!! Lesson From A Clown - How to have courage to show up for yourself and laugh everyday. On the Reclamation Project today, Julianne chats with Georgia Foster, a clinical hypnotherapist and voice dialogue trainer. She is known as the “Alcohol Reduction Expert” in the UK and Australia. Georgia has written many books and developed a number of online self help programs about self esteem, anxiety, emotional overeating, and drinking. Georgia has been featured regularly in the media such as Good Housekeeping, Psychologies Magazine, The Times Newspaper, The Morning Show, and more regarding her unique and highly successful approach and is a regular speaker on the power of the mind. A big topic of today's episode is that things don't have to be black and white. If you're an OG follower of this podcast, you know that it was once called the Excellence Over Perfection podcast. When Julianne discussed perfection, she often referenced the black-and-white perfectionist mindset, and this is something that Georgia applies to drinking - you don't have to go totally sober, but you do have the power to shift the relationship you have with alcohol. Top takeaways from the episode: Learning to manage your inner critic Holding your own in a drinking society Being aware of the habits your brain forms associated with alcohol Remembering that there's nothing inherently wrong with you A dopamine boost before your first drink is important Moments: 4:48 - Georgia's journey and inspiration for her work 10:20 - The inner critic drives us to drink 12:30 - We live in a drinking society 14:33 - Our minds work on pure habit 19:09 - Inner critic diary: The disowned self 21:23 - Get the endorphins going 22:32 - The perfectionist: The all-or-nothing drinker 26:00 - The pleaser: Opposite of the perfectionist 30:25 - Hypnosis to unify both conscious and subconscious mind Quotes: “A lot of people don't want to talk about it, but I'm saying we need to talk about it because there's nothing wrong with you or this sort of thinking. It's just a bad habit, at the end of the day. In the 14th podcast episode of the Legendary Leaders series, we chat with Sarah Rozenthuler, a Chartered Psychologist, leadership consultant, author of two books and founder and CEO of Bridgework. Sarah outlines Bridgework's purpose which is to build bridges through better communication between leaders and leadership teams, to enhance collaboration and collective intent. Sarah's aim is to help people connect and see the uniqueness in each other and to enable the creation of fresh ideas and new insights. Sarah shares the turning point from leaving her corporate role to going freelance and then building her own consultancy and advises us all to notice what energises and engages you at work. That ‘more noticing' led Sarah to redirect her career and train in facilitation and coaching. Sarah notes her inner conviction as to how she could contribute in a different way, despite not having a long-term plan in place as to what she was going to do. What makes a leader for Sarah? In her own words it's “having that openness and boldness to step forward into the unknown”. She talks about having the ability to engage and energise others and draw the best out of them, with a real sense of inner conviction. Sarah talks about impact as a greater motivator than factors like money and status. Sarah leaves us with her top tip which is to be true to you and do that by staying close to your energy. In this episode we talk about what coaching means to him, the difference between coaching and mentoring and the hidden hurdles that get in our way. Excerpts from this episode: * When building a business not only do you need to consider your value proposition and the problem/solution fit but also the venture/entrepreneur fit. * People are happy to pay for advice but not so much to get help get clarity about what they should be doing * The difference with between mentoring and coaching is the direction of flow of creativity and energy. For mentoring the flow is from mentor to mentee while for coaching the flow is from coachee to coach, where the coach is using probing questions. * Coaching is about championing somebody and helping them engage with what they're about to do enthusiastically. * You should only be setting goals for yourself that have meaning, that make sense, play to your strengths and that give you pleasure. Otherwise the chance of you attaining them are pretty low. * Taking ownership is about being the best informed and best resourced person to make the decision. * If there's a mismatch between your values and your goals then you can run aground. * People adopt structured approaches to coaches because it benefits the business model. * The most valuable aspect of coaching is the quality of the relationship between coach and coachee, something more subtle than just a business transaction * Sometimes the rushing towards solutions can be the most damaging thing you can do as it's the worst possible thing for free thinking * Human beings aren't supposed to be time bound or expectations bound * There's something very fertile in the chaos * Your definition of success doesn't have to be like anybody else's. * Hiring people that think differently and with diversity of attention * Authenticity isn't something that you can claim, it's something that is bestowed on you by others. * The thing that most people fear isn't the situation but the unpleasant sensations and the discomfort they feel. * These unpleasant feelings and sensations are there to inform us and guide us. We can learn to work with these unpleasant feelings. When I first became a coach in 2000 I was one of the first wave of coaches in the UK. Generally young, successful women who'd come from the corporate world, we saw coaching as a way to help people move forward in their lives and make conscious choices about how they wanted to live and how they wanted to feel. Suzy Walker is one of the biggest names to come from that wave of coaches. Now Editor of Psychologies Magazine, she is author of the bestseller “Making the Big Leap” and for many years ran her own highly successful coaching business. In our interview we talk about changing your name mid-life, returning to a “proper job” having worked for yourself, and our beliefs around money... and we end up making a pact together to change our attitudes towards financial security. You'll enjoy this interview if you're at a crossroads, if you're interested in working on your intuition and shifting long-standing beliefs, especially about money, if you're looking for more balance in your life or you're keen to pare down your life to a more simple way of living. Suzy Reading is a mum of 2, a Chartered Psychologist specialising in wellbeing, stress management and self-care. Suzy is a contributing editor for Psychologies Magazine and the Psychology Expert for wellbeing brand Neom Organics. She is also incredibly wise and gentle. I loved our chat and it got me thinking about my own self-care practices and how important it is as a mum that I keep myself topped up, not just doing this stuff when I'm already on the floor. Keep an eye out for Suzy's first book - The Self Care Revolution which will be released in December 2017. What we cover in this episode: - Suzy's definition of self care - How to make self-care work for each of us as individuals - Suzy's journey into specialising in self care - Mum guilt and what we can do about it - When self care becomes stressful - Practical self care tips for busy mums - Her unique 'vitality wheel' approach
