With Thomas Frank's departure to Tottenham Hotspur all but confirmed Billy The Bee Grant and Dave Laney Laney got together in the Beesotted Emergency Bunker to discuss the head coach situation at Brentford Football Club. The press has been in overdrive the past few days and the inevitablity of Frank's move from West to North London seems a matter of when rather than if… As Brentford fans we are focussed on how developments affect our club, but the two Beesotted editors also discuss how they feel the likeable Dane will cope under Daniel Levy compared to Matthew Benham; who may come next at The Gtech, will it be Justin Cochrane or Jurgen Klopp; as well as whether Frank's relationship with the Brentford fans will be compromised by the way the departure has played out so far. Thomas Frank's track record at Brentford can never be questioned but, at these moments, all Bees fans share a mixed sense of concern, fear and uncertainty about the future… we hope this edition of the podcast reflects the views of most fans. Across the Seas but Forever Bees - An American Brentford Podcast

We're blessed to support this club.  For going on a decade now, each season has been a wonderful adventure - each one different, each with it's ups and downs.  But how many clubs have our ups/downs ratio???  To look back and to peak forward we have Iowa's own Glenn Houlihan back, along with Greville Waterman from North London.  It's the final podcast of the season, a podcast that was started by our OG host Ryan Dull (Comic Book Guy to many of you).  It's once again been a pleasure to talk football and to meet so many wonderful people this season.  Good people seem to find Brentford Football Club naturally. We look forward to a restful summer...but not too much fun!  Pre-season starts in July.  And we will talk to you again then.Text the pod!

Across the Seas but Forever Bees - An American Brentford Podcast

There are so many reasons I'm proud to support Brentford Football Club, and Saturday was another reason.  The heart and resilience and guts shown by the (remaining) squad was quite something.  Last minute winners are a part of sport - great when you get one, dreadful when it happens to you.But under the circumstances, this was a great performance. To make sense of the chaos this week was Jay Altair from Boston (the one in the States) and Greville Waterman from a spot just north of London.

The podcast is lucky this week to have Daniel Jennings in from Denver.   Daniel talks about his early, early morning rituals around Brentford Football Club...and something tells me that he could use some backup at the Bulldog Pub!  I think if you're a glass-half-full person you're looking at an unbeaten start, quality at every position, a genius manager and a frighteningly talented, young squad and B team.  And you're thinking Neal Maupay is getting 15 goals for us!  If you're half-full...well, what if we lose a midfielder from our starting three?   What if a late goal that saves us a point against Bournemouth is who we are?  What is our best 11??  What if Toney never plays for us again?   An especially interesting conversation that I completely enjoyed.  I hope you do as well.

Ivan Toney broke his silence about his betting ban from football, and from Brentford, when he appeared as a guest on the popular podcast Diary of a CEO, which is hosted by entrepreneur Steven Bartlett. Toney opened up about growing up in Northampton, his strong bonds with his family, signing for, then being rejected by, Newcastle United, as well as getting his career back on track at Peterborough United and his move to Brentford Football Club, where he has made his name as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.Ivan talks about the positive, special, environment at Brentford, and it is clear he has enjoyed his time with The Bees – the interview also focuses on his gambling addiction after being charged for 232 breaches of the FA's betting rules, which is where the player struggles to explain his actions or seemingly take responsibility for not being available for half of the 2023/24 Premier League season. There is also no hint of an apology to his club, his team mates or Brentford supporters, who won't see him in action again (unless he moves on) until the end of January 2024.In this edition of Beesotted The Pride of West London podcast we cover Ivan's interview in depth – Brentford fans Ali Mullaley, Luis Coghlin join host Dave Lane in the studio, with several other Brentford fans contributing to the hour-long show. We also hear from former Crystal Palace chairman, Simon Jordan, who spoke at length about the Ivan Toney situation on his TalkSport show earlier this week, which gives a fascinating insight from a club-owner's perspective.By appearing on the Diary of a CEO podcast this week, Ivan has knowingly opened the whole tin of worms up once more, and it is only right that we, as Brentford fans, take this opportunity to discuss how it affects us as a football club now our prize asset is openly talking about the next phase of his career, the ban that is preventing him playing for us and his move away from our club. Brentford Football Club's rise to the Premier League has without doubt transformed the stature of the West London club – from the bottom to the top tier of English football in little over a decade – with owner Matthew Benham ripping up the traditional football rule books along the way. Scorned for daring to do things differently, The Bees' steady rise has made the footballing world eventually sit up, take note, then try and replicate their cutting edge blend of statistical analysis, a left-field recruitment strategy, a perfectly executed business rebrand and new stadium model… not to mention a strictly enforced ‘no dickhead' policy. This hard-back talks to the players, head coaches, directors of football and the owner, who have made Brentford's rise possible – all of whom share their unique experiences and the vital decisions that were made en route to the top. We also feature the experiences of Bees supporters who have shared in the journey and how they had to learn along the way. The Brentford Revolution is an essential read for anyone keen to discover just how little old Brentford became one of the most talked about clubs in football. The book's authors, Dave Lane and Tim street, are joined by Jon Restall to discuss the Brentford rise over the past decade, how the book was put together and some of the personal highlights that are contained within the pages. The Brentford Revolution is available now from https://www.legendspublishing.net/product/the-brentford-revolution or from the Brentford FC Club shop and Amazon. Brentford F.C. Brentford Football Club is a professional football club based in Brentford, West London, England. They compete in the Premier League, the highest tier of English football, having gained promotion via the playoffs at the end of the 2020–21 Championship season. Nicknamed "the Bees", the club was founded in 1889 and played home matches at Griffin Park from 1904 before moving to Gtech Community Stadium in 2020. Their main rivals are fellow West London based clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. Brentford initially played amateur football before they entered the London League in 1896 and finished as runners-up of the Second Division and then the First Division to win election into the Southern League in 1898. They won the Southern League Second Division in 1900–01 and were elected into the Football League in 1920. Brentford won the Third Division South title in 1932–33 and the Second Division title in 1934–35. The club enjoyed a successful spell in the top flight of English football, reaching a peak of fifth in the First Division, in 1935–36, their highest ever league finish, before three relegations left them in the Fourth Division by 1962. They were crowned Fourth Division champions in 1962–63, but were relegated in 1966 and again in 1973 after gaining promotion in 1971–72. Brentford spent 14 seasons in the Third Division after gaining promotion in 1977–78 and went on to win the Third Division title in 1991–92, though were relegated again in 1993. Brentford were relegated into the fourth tier in 1998 and won promotion as champions in the 1998–99 campaign. The club were relegated in 2007 and won promotion as champions of League Two in 2008–09 and then were promoted out of League One in 2013–14. They had unsuccessful Championship play-off campaigns in 2015 and 2020. Brentford have a poor record in finals, finishing as runners-up in three Associate Members' Cup / Football League Trophy finals (1985, 2001 and 2011) and losing four play-off finals (the 1997 Second Division final, 2002 Second Division final, 2013 League One final and 2020 Championship final). However, Brentford won the 2021 Championship final to be promoted to the highest level for the first time since the 1946–47 season. This episode is called “Theatre of Dreams” and Griffin Park itself takes centre stage. Fans recall the days when the terraces were full, when the Royal Oak was in its heyday and when you needed to turn up early to guarantee you'd get into the ground. And then there were the relegation years when just a few thousand fans would turn up, rattling around the near empty ground, the die-hards who would recall the former glory days while hoping for better days to come. There's talk of the ground itself, the dire toilets, the old fashioned floodlights and magic of the evening games as well as memories of proud moments on the terraces. Finally, fans talk about what the club and ground have meant to them over the years, their feelings about leaving Griffin Park and their hopes for the future of this wonderful club. The music was written and performed by Robb Johnson. Alan Hawley played his first game as a professional in 1962 aged just 16. He left 12 years later after playing over 300 games.   Marcus Gayle joined the youth squad aged 14 and played his first game as an 18 year-old in 1988. This episode is called “Ballots and Buckets” and focuses on the many ways in which supporters have come together over the years to fight for their club.It starts with fans talking about the establishment of one of the first blind supporters schemes going back to the 1950s. Next, fans discuss the key battles that established Brentford as a community club with supporters groups who fought investors and scoundrels to keep it in West London. There are tales of times when the very existence of the club was in danger, as in 1967 when QPR attempted to take over and close the club down. Then there was the threat of a move to Woking and bankruptcy which galvanised supporters to establish campaigns to protect the club, to stand for local elections, and even to take direct ownership of the club for a time. It is perhaps this militancy, this willingness to stand up for their club, that makes Brentford FC what is it today. The music was written and performed by Robb Johnson. The project was funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Brentford Football Club.Produced by digital:works.Listen to the full interviews and find out more about the project at www.pushupbrentford.org.uk/Push Up Brentford is an oral history project set up to commemorate the last year the club will play at Griffin Park, their home for 116 years. We have interviewed fans, young and old, as well as players and managers to uncover their personal stories. We have created a fascinating living history of Brentford Football Club, starring the people who have made it such a special place over the years. The project is run by volunteers, many of them Brentford fans, and supported by Arts and Education charity, digital:works.

Not only is there some really insigntful thoughts and news shared by the Bees faithful about on field issues, we catch up with the Brentford Football Club's manager responsible for marketing and ticketing, Kurt Pitman, to ask him about the club's progress off the pitch ahead of an import new season and a critical couple of years as we gear ourselves up to the new stadium move. Hope you enjoy this week's pod. First up is Gary Roberts and Francis Joseph - a footballing double act if ever there is one. Theres two guys were hilarious. Forming a lethal striking partnership back in the 80s playing in the team with the killer midfield of Stan Bowles, Terry Hurlock and Chris Kamara, you could see that the Roberts/Joseph bond was still there 30 years later. They had the audience in stitches - cracking joke after joke. Gary Roberts claimed that he had invented the Cruyff turn - years before the master of the Cruyff turn Johan Cryff had actually coined the phrase.
Francis Joseph told the audience how he was ‘tapped up' (allegedly) by Brentford in the bar after a match at Griffin Park after just destroying The Bees - scoring two goals in Wimbledon's comeback which saw them win 3-2 after being 2-0 down at half time. They talk about Stan Bowles' dodgy entourage - some sort of West London mafia. Three months later he was playing football down at Griffin Park With the summer fast approaching, 90 Brentford fans joined the Dave Lane and Billy Grant from Beesotted and a bunch of Brentford legends - Gary Roberts, Francis Joseph, Billy Manuel & Graham Benstead - at the fabulous Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing to see the season off in style at their end of season Pride of West London Bees-Up.
