If you got drunk and wandered home from the bar in the early 20th century, there was no Uber, no Find My Friends, no Lime bike to help you — it was a strange and difficult time in which to get blasted. But if you found yourself trolleyed in Central America at this point in history, you may have had one card up your sleeve — the protection of the legendary El Cadejo. El Cadejo is a creature blending the world of cryptid and legend into one all-out bad ass dog, and one for Kit and Rory to investigate on this week's episode.Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunitySupport us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeIntro music by www.purple-planet.comEdited by Philip ShackladyResearch by Ewen Friers Hosted on Acast. When Shannon Falkenstein moved to El Salvador for love years ago she gained a unique perspective of the country. She created the FaceBook Expat page to share her newly gained insights. She and her husband began brewing beer in their home and soon created the very popular local Micro-Bewery Cadejo, along with a string of 12 Cadejo restaurants. Shannon Falkenstein's next entrepreneurial venture was in the field of education. She established her own Montessorai style school in San Salvador called Acton Academy. She is currently looking to create another unique school in the beach area. ESTA HISTORIA, ME LA DIJO KATHYA, QUIEN ES COSTARRICENSE...
Award-winning filmmaker Justin Lerner's latest work, CADEJO BLANCO, takes a deep dive into the world of Guatemala's clicas, small disorganized gangs of young people who engage in illegal activity (robberies, drug dealing, violence) in order to survive. CADEJO BLANCO unfolds through the eyes of a Sarita, who lives with her sister Bea and mother, in a working-class neighborhood in Guatemala City. One night after a party, Bea doesn't come home. Convinced that her disappearance has something to do with Andrés, her sister's dangerous ex, Sarita manages to befriend him and infiltrate his gang. Narrowly avoiding death at every turn, and with an unwavering determination in the face of the men who underestimate her, Sarita becomes increasingly involved with Andrés and the ruthless, violent world of his gang. As she searches for answers about what happened to her sister, she realizes that the truth is a lot more complicated than she could have imagined. In writing the screenplay, for CADEJO BLANCO director, producer, and co-editor Justin Lerner talks about how he relied heavily on the biographies of the young people he met from the gangs of Puerto Barrios. Much of the story is based on their real experiences as they were told to Lerner: their daily conflicts, the dangers in joining a clica, losing friends to violence and crime. We also discuss his casting of Karen Martinez into the complex role of Sarita and how she was able to deliver a superb, multi-faceted performance. For more go to: filmmovement.com/cadejo-blanco

“PLAGUE WEDDINGS” and More Horrifying But True Stories! #WeirdDarknessClick here to find Weird Darkness in your favorite podcast app: https://linktr.ee/weirddarkness IN THIS EPISODE: Imagine a young mother coming home late one night after a trip to the ER for a minor illness. The next day she is missing. That is just the beginning of the strange and unsettling case of Charlotte Pollis. (The Disappearance of Charlotte Pollis) *** There was a time when people would get married in cemeteries – not because they were goth or because they loved the macabre surroundings, but because they felt it would keep them from getting sick. (Plague Weddings) *** The five pointed star is ubiquitous. We learn to draw it in grade school, teachers draw it on our test papers to show we've done a good job – but turn the star upside down and suddenly it becomes mysterious, and strange… it become a pentagram. Why does the pentagram hold so much power over some people? And what are the secrets it holds? (Secrets of the Pentagram) *** It's a supernatural creature that appears at night to travelers. If you see a white one, it is there to protect you from harm and help you along your journey. If you see a black one, it is there to kill you. We'll look at the Central American cryptid known as the cadejo. (The Cadejo)(Dark Archives episode from June 23, 2020)SOURCES AND ESSENTIAL WEB LINKS…BOOK: “The Power of the Pendulum” by T.C.

Attention demon dog lovers, this episode tackles a tale from El Salvador, El Cadejo, a special dog with glowing red eyes and a taste for human souls. Theme Song by Patrick Mullens TW: evil dogs, furries, soul stealing, dog attacks, and some talk of dog eating (historical, as if that somehow makes it better, but its brief) Show notes: El Cadejo Brewery, El Kadejo Movie, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, El Cadejo Book (source)

Dogs are the best, except when they're stalking you in the night to casually rip off your face or show you visions of hell. This episode of YPH we discuss some doggos who aren't always good boys (just kidding, all dogs are good boys). Let us know your favourite black dog name by looking up Yowie Power Hour on Twitter or Instagram. We already know it's Gytrash, but let us know anyway! The usually swearing warning applies and will always apply - we are Australian after all.
Doesn’t matter where you run, doesn’t matter where you turn: the country you’re in is liable to have its own version of the demon dog legend. But don’t despair! If you’re polite and follow the rules...you might just survive.

Tonight's guest, Dion Orellana Vargas, grew up in Guatemala. His family's house was about 6 miles from the jungle. Unfortunately, though, that didn't prevent him from having an encounter with a cryptid locals call, “The Cadejo!” The appellation "Cadejo" is what locals, in Guatemala call Dogmen there. If you're one of those listeners who thinks you don't have to worry about encountering Dogmen as long as you're not in the United States, tonight's show is proof that you can find them almost anywhere.
