This was during the very beginnings of Vans Warped Tour. During this time Max owned Choice Music & was selling concert tickets & music directly to the fans through the music store. Cannibal Corpse in 2022 just played the Diamond Ballroom, Max recalls a Cannibal Corpse show in 1998 at the Will Rogers Theater & talks about the protests & harrasment from religious organizations in protest of some of the acts Max was bringing to Oklahoma City. Before Myles Kennedy joined Slash as his vocalist, he was in a band called the Mayfield Four & we discuss a show with them opening for Big Wreck at the Boars Head in 1998. Howard Libes has been a writer for over 30 years. He edited the 2,300-page manuscript of If They Move … Kill’em: The Life and Times of Sam Peckinpah by David Weddle (Atlantic/Grove Press) and worked as a collaborator — writer and interviewer — on Among the Mansions of Eden: Tales of Love, Lust, and Land in Beverly Hills by David Weddle (William Morrow/HarperCollins). He has been a freelance writer for many publications too, including Fuel and Los Angeles Times Magazine. Howard’s writing career has been sidetracked a few times over the years by the music business. Most notably, he managed the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies who sold over 2 million albums. He is currently tapping into his lifelong obsession with science fiction and writing the SEEDER series. In October 2017, When All Else Fails, volume one in the series, was released online and in stores. Thom sits down to talk to his friend and mentor Howard Libes. Howard was the manager for the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies during the explosion of the Zoot Suit Riot album and the band getting signed to Mojo Records. Howard talks about why he ended up in Eugene and how the artist collective used to include a slew of anyone participating in creating art: Musicians, painters and writers. This got Howard into the musical circles with Steve Perry who formed the Daddies and went on to national success with his music. In today’s “Am I Crazy or Am I Just Raving” Podcast, Thom and Andrew sit down with Elemental Records creator Jon Boldt. Jon Boldt ended up signing Henry’s Child to Elemental Records after they won the first Sonic X-Plosion in 1996. From then on, Jon has remained friends with the band and is considered part of the Henry’s Child family. In this first of two parts, Jon talks about the birth of Elemental Records. This all came from a genuine love of music that Jon demonstrated by being an independent show promoter in Portland. This led to getting introduced to several up-and-coming bands in the Pacific Northwest and putting out the compilation “Northwest Ungrunge”. Just a few months later, the Jollymon record “Sailing” was released and Elemental was on its way to blowing up. Jon moved the record company from Portland to Eugene, which seemed like a counter-intuitive idea at the time but ended up benefiting the label in the long run. Listen to how a series of meetings about distribution with the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies manager led to a long-time alliance that shaped a good portion of the Eugene music scene in the 90’s. Ceej and Rob are back with tales of despair, pop punk aliens, regressing back to childhood, and not believing what is happening all around them. Rob is barely hanging in there but the promise of VR being in his hands in less than two weeks is keeping him going, Ceej learns about the connection between Blink'in and aliens, and it comes to light that Ceej was into a very strange genre of music that blows Rob's mind. They take a stand when it comes to the people trying to take away Halloween fun, argue about what constitutes a "Dude Creature" and a "Creature Dude", and discuss Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows (Spoilers: 27:18 - 39ish). Rob sort of enjoys The Exorcist television show, they both have no idea what the hell is going on in regards to America, and Ceej talks about his love of the British Parliament.

Michael Solomon is the co-founder of 10x Management, a talent management company representing some of the world’s most sought-after independent developers, designers, and technology professionals. Michael began his career in the entertainment industry touring with Bruce Springsteen in Europe, and working at Sony Music International and Epic Records International. In 1995, Michael co-founded Brick Wall Management, an artist management and entertainment consulting firm, with childhood friend Rishon Blumberg. Brick Wall’s diverse client roster includes such artists as John Mayer, Citizen Cope, Martin Sexton, Marc Broussard, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Vanessa Carlton, Charlie Mars, Ari Hest, The Clarks, The Spring Standards, and William Fitzsimmons, to name a few. In 2012 Michael co-founded 10X Management to bring his deep knowledge of talent management into the technology industry.
