Today federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon is sending the labour dispute between Canada Post and the CUPW to the Canada Industrial Relations Board. MacKinnon says this could see the mail service return as early as next week. Throughout this labour disruption, many businesses and organizations in Nova Scotia are being impacted in different ways. Yesterday we heard from Chris O'Neil, with the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts... who told us the big impact the strike was having on annual private donations. Today, we're going to hear about the impact of the strike on a not-for-profit in Colchester County. Carla Shaw is a volunteer with TREY – Trauma Recovery for Exploited Youth. She is also the chair of the board with the TREY. Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been on strike since November 15. CUPW represents more than 60,000 Canada Post delivery workers in rural and urban areas across the country. At the heart of the strike is an effort to secure safe working conditions for all postal workers, and a wider struggle against precarious work, as companies drive workers to the gig economy. Clarification; Misspoke at one point when I (Kevin) said you could get OT pay past your scheduled hours in group 2. I realized this could imply time and a half, however, If you are a part time worker you would get straight pay until you pass eight hours then get time and a half when and if you pass eight hours.
