When the clinician offers emotional support, something more than comfort is being extended. A stabilizing presence is being introduced into the patient's relational field, one that offers the steady, attuned empathy that may have been scarce or altogether absent during those formative years when the self was first taking shape. In this mode, the therapist functions as a kind of psychological scaffold, providing the experience of containment and regulation that early caregiving failed to supply. There is warmth in this work, and the patient often feels, perhaps for the first time, genuinely held. Yet if we never leave that warm register, we may be missing the rest of the story. The deeper architecture of the mind keeps doing its work underground, all those layered defenses, old internalized objects, and unresolved conflicts, quietly running the show whether we attend to them or not.

If you read Romans 1 and felt good about yourself because Paul was talking about other people's sins, chapter 2 is for you. You who pass judgment have no excuse, because you do the same things. Paul strips the moral high ground out from under the religious person who assumes the rules only apply to everyone else. God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance. It is not confirmation that you are better than your neighbor.  The Rev. Keith Lingsch, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Naples, FL, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Romans 2.  To learn more about Grace Lutheran, visit graceofnaples.com. Why does doing the right thing sometimes feel impossible? Why do feelings of guilt follow us even when we've been forgiven? These aren't new questions. St. Paul wrote his letter to the Romans for a church he had never visited, and yet he addressed the struggles every Christian knows firsthand: the weight of the law, the persistence of sin, the sufficiency of what God has done in Christ. Romans covers enormous ground. Paul moves from the universal problem of sin through justification by faith, the role of baptism, the war between flesh and spirit, God's faithfulness to Israel, and the shape of life together in the body of Christ. There's a reason the Reformation was born in this letter. Join us on Thy Strong Word as we open up Romans, weekdays at 11am or on-demand anytime, at KFUO.org.  Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. For more information on how to control your anger, visit angersecrets.com.In this episode, anger expert Alastair Duhs walks through three powerful mindset shifts to help break the cycle of repeating anger. Whether it is the same argument with your partner, the same trigger at work or the same driver cutting you off, he explains why the pattern keeps happening and what you can do to finally change it.Rather than offering generic advice, Alastair gets to the root of why anger keeps repeating. These are real, practical shifts. And the good news is they are skills anyone can learn.Key Takeaways:Repeating anger patterns do not mean something is wrong with you. There is a specific reason the same things keep triggering you, and once you understand it, everything changes.Practicing acceptance is not about being passive. It means letting go of the idea that anger will change what you cannot control. When you stop fighting that battle, your anger has nowhere to go.Empathy is one of the most powerful tools in relationships. When you pause and ask what might be going on for the other person, the defensiveness drops and there is suddenly room for a real conversation.Anger makes things feel urgent and catastrophic. Most of the time they are not. Asking yourself whether this will matter in a year gives you a fast way to check if the anger is worth it.Maintaining perspective also means remembering that everyone makes mistakes, including you. That awareness makes you more forgiving and less likely to repeat the same argument. These are skills, not personality traits. With practice, they can fundamentally change how you respond to the things that used to set you off.Resources & Next Steps: If you would like help breaking the cycle of anger and building calmer, more loving relationships:Visit: angersecrets.comLearn more about The Complete Anger Management SystemAccess the free training on "Breaking The Anger Cycle"

Why do I keep failing at the same things? If that question has lived in your head, this message offers a different way to think about the fight, and a kind of freedom most people never expect. Most of us assume the battle against sin happens at the moment we are about to do the wrong thing. Pastor Brian walks through a different picture in this sermon, drawn from Paul's instruction to Timothy and Jesus' words in Matthew 5. The real front of the battle isn't where temptation finally wins. It's somewhere earlier, in the soil we let our lives sit in. When we don't see that, we lose the same battles over and over and wonder why nothing ever changes.Pastor Brian opens with a picture you may have heard a version of: a boy on a fence between Jesus and Satan, refusing to pick a side, until Satan smiles and says, "I'm fine with that. I own the fence." From there the message moves into 1 Timothy 6 and 2 Timothy 2, where Paul tells his young friend Timothy to run from anything that stirs up sin and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, and a steady kind of courage. Two sides of the same coin. Run from. Pursue toward. The teaching pulls in some of the hardest verses Jesus ever spoke about sin, in Matthew 5, where he tells us to gouge out the eye and cut off the hand that causes us to stumble. Pastor Brian helps us hear the urgency without missing the heart of it. Jesus is not asking us to mutilate ourselves. He is asking us to let him do the kind of surgery on our lives that takes sin's soil out of the picture, even when it costs us friendships, comfort, or things we have quietly come to worship. Then comes the turn most people never see coming. There is actually a fuel for change that starts in the place of failure. The sermon unpacks 2 Corinthians 7:10, where Paul says that godly sorrow leads to repentance, salvation, and no regret, while worldly sorrow leads to death. The two look identical from the outside. They cry the same tears. The difference is what your sorrow is sourced in and where it is leading you. Pastor Brian shares a vivid personal story from his college years, a stolen car, a lie, five hours of dread, and the unexplainable peace of confession, to show what shalom actually feels like when you finally tell the truth. This message is for anyone who feels stuck. Anyone tired of carrying the same regrets. Anyone wondering if Jesus is disappointed in them. Anyone who has ever wondered if real change is even possible. Whether you have been following Jesus for forty years or you are just curious what he actually says about all this, you will find something worth sitting with here.

When your child pushes back on something they've already done many times (like a simple routine or going to the same place every week), it can be confusing... and draining. When the same resistance shows up again, it's easy to wonder why nothing is sticking…or why it feels like you're back at the beginning every single time. But what's driving that reaction isn't what most parents assume, and until you see what's actually going on underneath, these patterns tend to repeat. In this episode, you'll hear: • What's actually happening in those moments when your child resists something they've already done before • Why getting through an experience once doesn't mean your child can handle it the next time • The key shift that changes how you approach these moments so they don't keep repeating in the same way -- FREE: Does your child have a narrow zone of tolerance? One of the many great things about "No Kings" is the variety of messaging we saw. Which means a variety of thoughts. For the progress side of America this is both good and bad because messaging can be scattered. As historically, there will always be the "free Tibet" Berkeley hippies there with those fighting for civil rights, affordable healthcare, and upholding the constitution. For the regress side of America, they're messaging is often more homogenized because there is less variety of thought. This unfortunately means its messaging can be parroted and echoed quicker. When we look at the phenomenon of theocratic fascist cults, whether they arise in the deserts of the ancient world or the digital jungles of the modern mind—we are observing the triumph of ideology over experience. These people, who we've said it before and we'll never stop saying it, in their latest incarnation, are in a fascist MAGA cult, nested in a regressive red cult, nested in a faux Abrahamic supremacist religious cult. So these thrice cult fervent disciples speak in unison because the narrow structure they inhabit demands it. Language, that great frontier of the individual spirit, within these tight canyons is commandeered, reduced, and weaponized into a tool of control. The spontaneous bloom of personal insight is replaced by the same dozen tired selfish asshole tropes, "You Marxist", "You Communist", "We're a Republic, not a democracy", "You wanna raise my taxes", etc... The sermon centers on the enduring truth of the Gospel, rooted in the unchanging nature of God and the authority of Scripture, as exemplified in Paul's ministry in 2 Corinthians. It emphasizes three pillars: the integrity of the ministry, which rejects deceit and centers on the truth; the great opportunity to proclaim the transformative power of the gospel, which offers salvation to all who believe; and the unwavering determination to stand firm in faith despite opposition, grounded in personal conviction and divine calling. The preacher, reflecting on 17 years of service, affirms his steadfast belief in the deity of Christ, the necessity of His substitutionary atonement, the full inspiration and preservation of the King James Bible, and the reality of eternal salvation through faith alone. With a tone that is both pastoral and prophetic, the message calls listeners—especially the unsaved—to repent and place their trust in Christ, underscoring that the Gospel remains the power of God for salvation, unchanged and eternal. The sermon affirms the enduring authority of Scripture, the centrality of Christ's atonement, and the believer's responsibility to proclaim the Gospel with integrity and conviction, calling all to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Dominance is not about personality it's about systems. A lot of people want to dominate in their space, to be the best and number one at what they do. But the key is understanding that dominance comes from consistent behaviors, not just who you are or how you act in the moment. In this episode, I break down the difference between personality and system, and why getting this distinction right is what will actually put you in that dominant position. Show Notes:  [01:54]#1 Dominance is repeatable.  [07:21]#2 Systems create consistency.  [11:29]#3 Presence as a systematic byproduct. Let's keep it going with part two of getting more done. First, stop relying on talent—use systems. A good system does the hard work for you so you can focus on bigger things. Second, do what excites you or leads to exciting results because energy is 85% of the job. And third, write things down and prioritize them. Simple stuff, but most people ignore it. Don't be that person. Let's get into it. Show Notes: [02:35]#4 Operating by systems and not by talent. [11:19]#5 Do things you're excited about or that produce exciting results.
