There's a delirious level of dark comedy that thrives in the new short film DIY from director Tony Gardiner and writer Lachlan Marks. A woman, played with a disarming ease by Claire Lovering, is mourning the passing of her dog. As she drills into the wall to hang up a picture of her pup, she is surprised to find blood coming out of the hole. Heading to the other side of the wall, she finds the dead body - the first of the dilemmas she encounters. The next is Damon Herriman's organised crime cleaner. From here, DIY unfurls in a delirious level of bleak comedy that splashes the audience with acidity as we're invited to laugh along with the depths that Tony and Lachlan's characters fall into.I caught up with Tony and Lachlan ahead of DIYs screenings at both the St Kilda Film Festival on 8 June and the Sydney Film Festival on 14 June, where the film is a finalist in the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films. In the following interview, Tony and Lachlan talk about their collaborative approach to horror-comedy filmmaking, while Tony talks about shifting from working on industry testing grounds like Neighbours and Home & Away onto projects like DIY. The two also talk about the political nature of filmmaking and how reflective and responsive the creative process can be.DIY is an absolute treat of a short film - the kind that blitzes by in a moment, leaving you with a giddy sensation at its close after having left you gasping for breath with its ability to draw laughs out of dark situations. This is the kind of film that thrives with an audience, and no doubt those who are in attendance at either St Kilda or Sydney will love the film.To find out more about the film, follow both Tony and Lachlan on Instagram.Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky @thecurbau. Better Man is a 2024 musical biopic depicting the life of English singer-songwriter and former Take That member Robbie Williams. It was written, directed, and produced by Michael Gracey (On the heels of his success with noted piece of treacly crap The Greatest Showman), and features the central conceit of replacing the film version of Robbie with that of an anthromorphic CGI chimpanzee. Robbie Williams himself stars as the narrator and singing voice of the film version of Williams, portrayed via motion capture and acted by stage actor Jonno Davies. Steve Pemberton, Kate Mulvany, Alison Steadman, and Damon Herriman also star, and the soundtrack features a collection of Robbie Williams hits set to theatrical set pieces. On a new (Wait, really?!) episode of Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott take in a viewing of Better Man, and literally record the episode immediately after the screening from a car in the parking lot of a Showcase Cinemas. Join them as they cast a hypothetical Pearl Jam biopic, enjoy a delicious meal of spaghetti flingers and NASCAR fries, are thoroughly bewildered by the sight of a giant ape-man doing cocaine and other ilicit deeds....with Lilz and Scott!
On the red carpet for Peter And The Starcatcher at the Capitol Theatre Sydney - Damon Herriman (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Judy & Punch) stars as Nigel Martin-Smith, the band manager of 'Take That' in the Robbie Williams biographical musical film, BETTER MAN (Paramount Pictures). Directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman, P!nk: What I Know So Far), filmed in Victoria and the UK, Damon is nominated for an AACTA award. I absolutely love BETTER MAN and was thrilled to speak to Damon about his role, the film, Robbie Williams, as well as upcoming projects! B etter Man is a 2024 biographical musical film co-written, produced and directed by Michael Gracey about the life of British pop singer Robbie Williams. Williams is portrayed as an anthropomorphic chimpanzee with CGI, performed by Jonno Davies using motion capture, and voiced by both Williams and Davies. Steve Pemberton, Kate Mulvany, Alison Steadman, and Damon Herriman also star. Better Man premiered at the 51st Telluride Film Festival on 30 August 2024. It was released in the United States on 25 December 2024, and in Australia and the United Kingdom on 26 December. The film received positive reviews from critics but was a box office bomb.
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Ema Sasic, Dan Bayer, Cody Dericks, Will Mavity & Tom O'Brien to review and discuss the latest film from Michael Gracey, "Better Man" starring Robbie Williams, Jonno Davies, Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman & Kate Mulvany. A musical biopic about English poster Robbie Williams, the audacious, R-rated film portrays him on screen through its entire runtime as a CGI monkey with many musical numbers incorporating Robbie's most famous songs. What did we think of the story, the visual effects, the musical sequences, and the motion-capture performance of Davies combined with Williams's voiceover? Tune in as we discuss these topics, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... My quick rundown of better than expected rags-to-riches and beyond story of pop star Robbie Williams shot primarily in Australia, directed by Michael Gracey;the maestro responsible for The Greatest Showman (2017) So it makes sense why this is a brazen, showy film with memorable musical sequences, all taken from Robbie's 'mostly' wild life. Yes Robbie is a CGI monkey.BETTER MAN a memorable cast includes;Damon Herriman, Jonno Davies, Raechelle Banno, Kate Mulvaney and Robbie himself as narrator
Kate and Damon have both been on this podcast before - but never together.Much in the same way that they are both appearing in two massive films released this month. After 4.5 years, INXS: Access all Areas reaches a special milestone of 200 episodes and what better way to celebrate than commemorate the Mini Series: Never Tear Us Apart starting with a deep dive into Part One. The episode that we coined “The Ascent” where we see the band climb from humble beginnings to the career zenith of Wembley 1991. With impeccable casting and production values from Endemol Shine Australia, this iconic mini series launched on Australian TV on Sunday February 9th, 2014 and concluded the following week on February 16th to record ratings for the Channel 7 network. Filmed in Melbourne Australia with a cast of known but not overtly famous actors, Director Daina Reid elicits heartfelt and acute performances particularly from industry veteran Damon Herriman whose portrayal of INXS Manager Chris Murphy may be the shrewdest casting in many years. With a swathe of songs representing INXS' early career success in Australia, fans and the less initiated are taken into a heady and nostalgic period when music and gigs were the soundtrack and vehicle for youth culture and entertainment. Additionally, we get to see the work ethic, commitment and sacrifice of an emerging band who had the courage to leave the safety and earnings potential of Australian shores and “risk it all” by tackling the behemoth that was America. Inspiring, endearing, passionate and purposeful, go back and watch with fresh eyes and ears before listening to this podcast!! A big thank you to everyone that sent in their thanks to add this episode hearing From Tim and Andrew Farriss, Leigh Francis, our wonderful friends and patrons but not forgetting Nick Egan celebrating our achievements with a firework ending. We love you all. Love and peace Haydn & Bee https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/ https://www.inductinxs.com/

Motorcycle clubs get some attention this week on Movies Merica with the new Jeff Nichols movie “The Bikeriders.” You may know Jeff Nichols from his previous movies “Mud” and “Midnight Special.” This movie stars Tom Hardy as Johnny, the founder of the Vandals bike riding club and Austin Butler as Benny, another member. Butler is like a younger “rebel without a cause” member to Hardy's older, settled but still rough founder. Enter Jodie Comer as Austin Butler's wife Kathy, who is scared of the club, yet intrigued and awed by it. As you might expect, this bike riding club doesn't just stay a bunch of guys and their old ladies riding around, having a great time. These are roughnecks who just don't care, so that gets them in trouble with people who hate bike riders, the law and other clubs. The heat gets turned up on the club and life gets bloody real fast and this causes tension between Johnny, Kathy and Benny. The club also has to deal with increasing danger as the club expands to other cities and they find they now have some scarier members that don't take orders from anybody, not even Johnny. The fuse has been lit, when will it explode? “The Bikeriders” also stars Michael Shannon, Damon Herriman, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, Beau Knapp, Emory Cohen, Karl Glusman, Toby Wallace, Happy Anderson, Paul Sparks and Will Oldham. This week on the Movie Squad pod, critics Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo debate the merits of the divisive Baz Luhrmann and try to review a film spoken in complete gibberish. First up, Tristan Fidler shares his thoughts on Elvis, starring Ausin Butler as the iconic artist and directed by Australia's own Luhrmann. Can Tristan convince an incensed Taylah that these are two great flavours that go great together? Then, Simon Miraudo reviews Nude Tuesday, written by and starring Jackie van Beek as a woman who attends a romantic retreat with her husband (played by Damon Herriman), only to get swept up in the cult of its leader (Jermaine Clement). Spoken in a fictional language, the cinema release has been subtitled by Julia Davis, with the film set to debut on Stan in July with a different set of subtitles. Both films are now in Australian cinemas.
A chat with the inimitable Baz Lurhmann about what he thinks Elvis, his first new film in nearly a decade might add to the legend and mythology of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. We've all heard of Taco Tuesday, but how about Nude Tuesday? Aussie actor Damon Herriman stars in a deliriously silly NZ set comedy about love, nudity and gibberish and he's along to tell us all about it + the question of power, who has it, what they do with it and how to get it, is central to the funny and gory superhero satire The Boys....we meet a bunch of the stars ahead of the Season 3 launch, including Chace Crawford, Jack Quaid and Karen Fukuhara.

Nude Tuesday is a brilliant new film from Armagan Ballantyne and Jackie van Beek about a suburban couple who go to a new-age retreat as a last ditch attempt to save their marriage. Their path to reconnection is riddled with hilarity and humiliation as they seek to find themselves and each other. Plus there's nudity, Jemaine Clement is a sex guru and oh yeah, everyone is speaking in a gibberish.Tim Batt hosts a series of interviews of a range of people who contributed to Nude Tuesday, from director Armagan Ballantyne to screenwriter Jackie van Beek to actors Jemaine Clement, Damon Herriman, Karen O'Leary and Chris Parker to musician Luke Buda and even the person who created and trained everyone on the 'gibberish', dialect coach Perry Piercy. The Nude Tuesday podcast was brought to you by Film Queenstown Lakes, and New Zealand and Australian distributors, Madman Entertainment. Their path to reconnection is riddled with hilarity and humiliation as they seek to find themselves and each other. In this episode Tim chats to Jemaine Clement and Damon Herriman. Damon Herriman plays Bruno, who Damon describes as “a real mix of qualities. He's super optimistic, he has a very sunny demeanour and is very enthusiastic about life, but he also has a short fuse – people can press his buttons very easily.” Damon is known for playing Dewey on FX's Justified and for portraying Charles Manson in the Netflix smash hit Mindhunter and then again in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.Jemaine Clement is, of course, one half of Flight of The Conchords, the co-creator and star of What We Do in The Shadows and has recently been shooting on James Cameron's upcoming Avatar sequels. In Nude Tuesday he plays Bjorg, a self-styled sex therapist and relationship guru, who rules over an eager and doe-eyed support staff. The Nude Tuesday podcast was brought to you by Film Queenstown Lakes, and New Zealand and Australian distributors, Madman Entertainment. This episode is our first in a series about an extraordinary case called "Victim F." In March 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn awoke at 3am to a nightmare. Armed men bound and drugged them, then abducted Denise, warning Aaron not to call the police or she would be killed. Aaron agonized about what to do. Finally he put his trust in law enforcement and dialed 911. Instead of searching for Denise, the police accused Aaron of her murder. Days later, when Denise was let go, instead of pursuing her abductors, they turned on her, accusing her of faking her own kidnapping. In their book, "Victim F" Aaron and Denise recount the horrific ordeal that followed. It is an unbelievable story that is all too true. Two of our coolest guests ever join the show for this very special TV-centric episode, call it TV SHOWS I LOVE THAT NO ONE TALKS ABOUT. We're talking about QUARRY, the fantastic Cinemax series, with the creators of the show, Michael Fuller and Graham Gordy. A unique fusion of post-Vietnam social commentary, pulpy thriller, and psychological drama, this show is one of a kind. Logan Marshall Green is hypnotic in the lead, with Jodi Balfour, Damon Herriman, and Peter Mullan absolutely owning their diverse, fascinating supporting roles. One of my favorite TV series of all time. If you haven't seen the show, listen to the first half of the episode, where we review the pilot. Then watch the show and come back for the back half, where we discuss the entire series. QUARRY is available to watch on Amazon or iTunes (and check out our show Twitter or FB pages for a link to the pilot for free on YouTube). --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support
Damon Herriman is an Adelaide born actor who has had success both nationally and internationally in film, TV and theatre. In the past 10-15 years, Damon has become known for playing bad, creepy, unsettled and quirky characters, but this wasn't always the case for him. Early on in his career, Damon couldn't even get an audition for these types of roles until he was able to change the industry's perception of him. Besides complaining about how much harder their questions are compared with previous episodes, Australian actors Damon Herriman and Brendan Cowell do manage to get some clean answers away. But they don't know what's made in the Dutch city of Delft, nor what branch of zoology ornithology deals with, nor the novelist who wrote ‘Fahrenheit 451'. They can tell you all about luge in Queenstown, New Zealand, though.Guests: Brendan Cowell and Damon HerrimanBackground Reading:An audience with actor Brendan Cowell in The Saturday PaperActor Damon Herriman in The Saturday Paper Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-saturday-quiz. We discuss the ‘Art of the Recap’ the various approaches and why this one is so unique. Also covered: Joe Walker’s reveals about the editing of ‘Blade Runner: 2049’ at EditFest and our takeaways from last week’s interview with director David Wain. The second season of Mindhunter premiered on August 16, 2019, with the release of 9 episodes. In season 2, the Mindhunter cast will feature some new actors, including Damon Herriman as Charles Manson. Season 2 will also focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, Son of Sam, and the BTK Killer. Netflix's original crime series Mindhunter was an instant hit when it premiered on the streaming service back in October 2017, and as a result, it was quickly renewed for a second season. Fans were left to anxiously await the show's return for more than a year and a half after that, but now, Mindhunter is finally returning. Here's a look at everything we know about the show's second season so far.
Actor Damon Herriman certainly has a type. He simultaneously played Charles Manson in both Quentin Tarantino's "Once upon a time in Hollywood" and the hit series "Mindhunter Season 2". Host Jenny Cooney chats with Damon about what it was like to work with the famous director and how he managed to play the same character in two different projects.
It’s rare for one actor to be cast as the same real-life character in two different productions almost simultaneously. When that real life character is Charles Manson, that makes some news. Australian actor Damon Herriman has taken on this challenging role in both Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood” and the second season of David Fincher’s Netflix series “Mindhunter.” Herriman is perhaps best know for playing Dewey Crowe in the series “Justified” and currently plays Paul Allen Brown in “Perpetual Grace LTD.” We talk about the character of Manson, how good writing makes for good acting, and why it's important to NOT add strings to a bow you don't have.

Damon Herriman is an Australian actor best known for his work in the TV show Justified and Mr Inbetween. He and I met when I first started working in TV back in the day, and even lived in the same building for a while when I was living in LA. Damon is on the cusp of exploding into the stratosphere - when we spoke he wasn’t able to discuss what he was working on while I was recording, however I knew it would eventually come out - so I can tell you now. Damon has been cast in the new Tarantino movie Once Upon a time in Hollywood, playing the role of Charles Manson. An astonishingly high-profile role for him, working with a legend of cinema - one I wish we could have spoken about but that’s ok, listening to this you’ll get to know more about this remarkable man and the path that he’s taken to get to this dizzying height. I was particularly interested in talking to him about the seasonal aspect of his job, how he deals with the ebbs and flows of the work. Damon is a humble guy, and came around to the apartment a few weeks back for a cuppa and some irregular dog barking from Frank.I hope you enjoy this engaging conversation with Damon Herriman. The Little Death udkommer på dansk blu-ray fra Scanbox d. 26. november. Hør mere om filmen i podcasten, og læs mere om blu-rayen på bloggen.
