You wouldn't believe that we're recording this the day after the Victims of Crime Commissioner here in Victoria released her report titled ‘Silenced and Sidelined” which was a disturbing report/insight into how victims of crime are treated by the justice system – from their initial report to Police through to their experience in the court system and how we can improve that experience. It was disturbing reading. My guest today Tammy Casselson's story just highlights and confirms what the Victim of Crime Commission found in her report. What REALLY frustrates me is the fact that since 2016 there have been 7 reports into how victims are treated in the justice system and what can be done to improve their experience. With all due respect to Fiona McCormack, the Victims of Crime Commissioner, nothing seems to have changed. We just seem to be going round & round in circles. And Tammy's story is proof of that……………Tammy Casseslon had it all – or so it appeared. A carefree, happy childhood, happy upbringing, meets Mr Handsome, Mr Popular, Mr Nice Guy, Mr Life of the Party who also had a carefree happy childhood & happy upbringing. A happy life, right??!! Tammy & her husband had 2 adorable children and everything just seemed perfect. But behind closed doors Tammy didn't “have it all”. She was frightened. Her husband's behaviour was becoming more unpredictable – his bursts of anger, his yelling, his insults & his threats, not only towards her, but their children.Mr Handsome had become Mr Narcissist, Mr Abusive, Mr Vindictive, Mr Controlling, Mr Demeaning. Like so many other survivors of D&FV, Tammy made excuses for his behaviour, not recognising or understanding the seriousness of his increasingly violent behaviour. It wasn't until an ill-fated attempt at taking his own life and ending up in hospital, Tammy found the courage to leave. That's when she realised his abuse had included financial abuse & discovered their finances were in shatters, non-existent. He'd kept it secret from her that they had nothing – and Tammy and her children were homeless. But homelessness was a safer option than staying. How does a successful, educated professional woman with a background in counselling, psychology, & teaching become homeless?Tammy was dragged through the court system where all the games her husband could have played, he did – along with his legal representatives whom she felt belittled and intimidated by.Tammy's husband eventually did end his life but left a lot of heartache & “what ifs”. ‘What if' they could have tried some type of amicable reconciliation, ‘what if' their children & their father could have mended some of the damaged relationship, ‘what if' he'd sought some help – his death became a senseless void unable to be filled. FOLLOW UP: CRUISE PAUSES DRIVERLESS TAXI SERVICEBoth Califoria's Department for Motor Vehicles and Public Utilities Commission have revoked Cruise's license to carry fee paying passengers in their robotaxis. Cruise, following this, has “paused” the operation of their fleet. This all stems from an incident on 2 October 2023, where a car driven by a human hit a pedestrian and they were knocked into the pathway of one of Cruise's cars which could not stop in time and trapped the pedestrian underneath the vehicle. The DMV claims Cruise shared partial video that showed up to the point of the vehicle stopping. However, the DMV now states there was more as they were not shown that the Cruise vehicle tried to move to the side of the road with the lady still trapped beneath the car. The DMV stated that “the manufacturers vehicles are not safe for public operation”. To read more click this Vice article link here. A regular Right-Wing caller to PDR demeaned undocumented immigrants and was schooled with the inconvenient truth about our founding. The conversation begins with a caller named Brian expressing concerns about undocumented immigrants, citing a single criminal case as evidence for a broader problem. Brian suggests that even a low rate of criminality among undocumented immigrants would translate to a significant number of criminals in the U.S. Brian was countered by the fact that it is incorrect to judge a large group based on isolated incidents. One should be looking at aggregate data rather than individual cases. Moreover, the data does not support the notion that immigrants, undocumented or otherwise, are more crime-prone than native-born Americans. In fact, studies have proven the opposite. While Trump may have done some commendable things, like pardoning some people of color whose convictions were race-based, his overall record on issues like racism, sexism, and homophobia cannot be ignored. Trump's actions should be evaluated in their entirety, not just based on isolated good deeds. Immigrants generally try to avoid criminal behavior because they want to stay under the radar. Immigrants are not the problem, but rather, the rhetoric and false beliefs perpetuated by outlets like Fox News and Newsmax are a clear and present danger to America. We need immigrants. Ask any farmer with his crops rotting in the fields of America. Brian and anti-immigrants who are maligning undocumented immigrants for breaking the law to enter the U.S. should display some humility. It is hypocritical not to criticize the original settlers for taking land that wasn't theirs. Humility and a focus on substantive dialogue rather than divisive rhetoric is essential. After all, the immigrants were coming for a job while European settlers came to conquer. The conversation reveals the depth of division and polarized opinions on issues like immigration and the political legacy of figures like Donald Trump. We must have more nuanced views and solutions. Overgeneralization and the demonization of specific groups are anti-American. Let's get a more informed, compassionate dialogue on this controversial issue. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/politicsdoneright/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/politicsdoneright/support

Most people think of narcissists as obnoxious and self-absorbed. They're flashy, loud and charismatic. And it's obvious that they're looking out for #1. But a covert narcissist is much harder to identify. They are generally well-liked and well-respected by others. And the way they manipulate their partner is much more subtle and difficult to recognize. So, how do you know if you're in a relationship with a covert narcissist? Is there anything you can do to make the divorce process more manageable? Debbie Mirza is a speaker, singer/songwriter and restorative coach with expertise in helping people heal from covert narcissistic abuse. Debbie is also the bestselling author of The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Recognizing the Traits and Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse, Worthy of Love: A Gentle and Restorative Path to Healing After Narcissistic Abuse and The Safest Place Possible: A Guide to Healing and Transformation. 1 Samuel 17: Don't disesteem the virtues of your family with dishonest words.1 Samuel 17:24-32:(Please read in your bible). We are starting in one of the most exciting parts of the Bible! In the following chapters we are going to read a lot of content full of adventure, suspense, drama and emotions. After David became Saul's armor bearer and the one who soothed his troubled soul with music, David reappeared at the moment when the people were facing on the battlefield the most famous Philistine in the Bible: a giant named Goliath. The people were filled with fear because this man was terrifying them day and night. That's how fears are, they increase in size when we let them control our minds and we don't confront them. There are many lessons to be learned from this chapter, but I want us to look at the reaction of David's older brother. While everyone was hiding and terrified, David arrived, sent by his father, to bring provisions to his brothers. Seeing the giant, David reacted like any man of faith, who knew the Lord's promises, saying that God would fight with him because the battle belongs to the Lord. He also knew that if someone cursed God's people, God would eliminate him. Seeing his older brother that David began to speak with indignation towards the giant, seeing him as little, and forcefully declaring that this giant was no one important, he accused David of being arrogant and wicked. He reprimanded him for having spoken like that. For the brother, David was a malicious reckless, but David was really seeing the giant with another perspective, different from that of his brother and the other soldiers. While everyone saw an invincible giant, David saw him as someone that could be easily eliminated, because he was challenging God Himself by cursing God's people. That same mistake is made in many homes. When a member of the household says something that the other does not agree with, one of them begins to attack with accusations and adjectives underestimating (disesteeming) the intelligence and way of thinking of the other. Disesteem is to show little esteem towards something because it is considered unimportant.Instead of dialoguing and discussing ideas objectively and calmly, listening and speaking with respect, they begin to offend with words attacking the person, not their opinions. Let's be careful about using attitudes from the past, or worse, insinuating attitudes that really do not match the personality of the attacked person. Let's avoid accompanying words with "always" or "never" such as: "you are always wrong" or "you never pay attention to me". These words make some mistakes or some habits eternal in our opinion. It is not possible for someone to "always be wrong" or "never pay attention." Rather let us say: “Lately you are wrong in this matter. We must do something about it so we don't make the same mistake” or “You haven't been paying attention to me lately; I'd like us to find a way for you to give me a moment where you give me your full attention.” Demeaning words have a disastrous effect. Those who listen may assume that the accusation is correct and may form the wrong idea of the person that is being attacked. Eliab was possibly jealous of David, because being the younger, he was anointed king instead of him, worked at the real court and was king's armor bearer. Eliab accused David of being arrogant and malicious, attitudes that the Bible does not mention in David's behavior. On the contrary, people who knew him said that David was a "braveman, a man of war, prudent of word, of good presence; and the LORD was with him", as we noticed in the previous chapter. Eliab was discrediting David's virtues with offensive words, distorting David's character.I hope this lesson teaches us to be careful not to offend someone with demeaning words simply because we disagree. Something surprising the Triune God is building for his glory and for all eternity. Something also rather messy, yet amazingly and beautifully diverse. Jesus calls us to a different way of seeing one another as a family but also seeing ourselves differently. Not one with a posture of superiority, but one of centered humility. We are a family. In grace, Christ not only reconciles us, breaks down the dividing walls, but also gives us a new identity. We the church are fellow citizens of a kingdom with all the privileges, loyalties, and responsibilities of that kingdom. We the church have a new king and we have been given a kingdom agenda.22.09.11
