They discuss their current tour schedule which is extreme and the logistics of their tour and they talk about 50th anniversary show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on June 25th. They tell us about their connection to Ovation guitars after their gear was stolen while on tour with Loggins and Messina in the ‘70's and they also talk about the guitars they're using now on the road, Parker Fly guitars. The discuss their former bassist and lifelong friend Wally Dentz who unfortunately passed away just a couple weeks ago. They describe their early influences gospel and early country and the early English bands and they talk about playing with their dad who was also musical and they tell us about the early incarnations of their bands that eventually became the Bellamy Brothers. The tell us about the work they did early on working with and for Jim Stafford and Gallagher and David's song “Spiders and Snakes” which Jim recorded and the song “Let Your Love Flow” which jump started their career. They talk about doing tv work when tv was a very big deal and they discuss how Conway Twitty helped them break into the Nashville establishment. They discuss the members of the their band and plans for a new album to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Commercial : CU of GA   STORY 1 arrested   Phillip Gerard Kelly, a Forest Park man, has been charged with resisting arrest and other offenses after allegedly speeding away from a traffic stop in Marietta. According to an arrest warrant, Kelly actively resisted arrest and fled the scene in his vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road and nearly colliding with another officer with sirens activated. He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving behind a firearm and a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue. Kelly faces charges of obstruction, attempting to elude, driving on a suspended license, speeding, possession of a firearm during a crime, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was arrested, and bond was denied.....................……... Read more about this at mdjonline.com   Story 2: drunk   Joshua Reginald Beckham, a 26-year-old Atlanta man, has been charged with multiple offenses after allegedly attempting to flee from police while driving under the influence. Beckham was driving a white Hyundai Sonata on Interstate 75 in Marietta with an inoperable brake light and a missing headlight when a motorist reported his erratic driving. During a traffic stop, Beckham fled at speeds over 80 mph. He was arrested after a brief pursuit and exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. Police found an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle. Beckham faces charges of DUI, driving with an open container, attempting to elude police, obstruction, and two charges related to his faulty car lights. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and remains in custody without bond.   Story 3: shooting   Demetrius Lafeyette Lester, a 24-year-old Smyrna man, has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly shooting at two men, Camaal Strickland and Roderious Hughley, on Windy Hill Road in Marietta. The victims were able to escape unharmed to a nearby residence. They reported seeing two suspicious vehicles circling the area, and four Black males approached them, leading to shots being fired towards them. Police responded to the call and found a possible suspect vehicle, a red Pontiac G8, which fled at high speed before being abandoned and impounded. Lester was detained on foot and identified himself from surveillance footage but denied involvement. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and released on a $30,000 bond.   we'll be right back   Break: ESOG – Elon – Dayco   STORY 4: planning   Developer Nick Telesca's proposal for a mixed-use development, including 360 apartments and 40,000 square feet of retail space, along the Silver Comet Trail in Vinings, Cobb County, was denied by the Planning Commission in a 4-0 vote. The proposed site was adjacent to a waste transfer station and several industrial facilities, leading to concerns about compatibility with residential use. The Vinings Village Homeowners Association opposed the project, emphasizing the area's industrial and potentially harmful environment. Although there were some positive aspects, such as potential infrastructure connections and environmental considerations, the commission ultimately rejected the proposal due to the perceived mismatch between high-density housing and the industrial surroundings.   STORY 5: cannabis   Botanical Sciences, a physician-founded medical cannabis provider, announced plans to open a medical cannabis dispensary in Marietta, Cobb County, near Wellstar Windy Hill Hospital. The dispensary is set to open in late August and will offer products containing 5% THC or less, following Georgia state law. This comes shortly after another medical cannabis dispensary, Trulieve, opened in Cobb County in April. Botanical Sciences aims to provide patients with high-quality products and information, and registered patients with medical cannabis cards can access their products at all their dispensaries and authorized independent pharmacies in the state. More information can be found on their website.   Story 6: owls   Kennesaw State University's football team started fall practice with a renewed sense of urgency after finishing last season with a losing record. The team is implementing new systems by offensive coordinator Chris Klenakis and defensive coordinator Nathan Burton. The starting quarterback is Jonathan Murphy, with key returners Isaac Foster and Markeith Montgomery. The team has improved in terms of player injuries, with fewer players wearing red jerseys indicating injuries. The Owls are preparing for a nine-game season and building depth as they transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2024. Trulieve lied about the death of my co-worker. “No trulieve employees did not perform CPR on Lorna McMurrey as they claimed”. An interview with a co-worker of Lorna McMurrey who was there on the day that McMurrey worked her last shift. She reveals that Trulieve lied about CPR being performed on McMurrey prior to the EMT arriving. She also reveals that emergency personnel were delayed because of the gross negligence of Trulieve. He is accused of fatally shooting 23-year-old Dacari Early at an apartment complex in March. Nash allegedly shot Early multiple times with a Glock 43X handgun following a verbal dispute. He was arrested the day after the shooting in Rome, and is currently incarcerated there. Nash faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He also has additional charges from Floyd County and holds from the Cobb and Hamilton County sheriff's offices......stay up to date on this story at mdjonline.com     Story 2: 95 units   A developer is seeking approval from the Smyrna City Council to expand a previously approved apartment complex by adding 95 units. The Creekside Towers development, located off South Cobb Drive, plans to increase the unit count from 200 to 295. While the building's height would remain the same, the space for amenities would be reduced, and additional underground parking would be included. The city planning staff and planning commission have recommended approval of the application. If approved, construction is set to begin in winter, and the tower would consist of various unit types. The developer has also pledged to reserve four units at reduced rates for city first responders.     Story 3: council   The City Council is set to vote on appointing Kathy Young to represent Ward 7 for the remainder of 2023. The vacancy in Ward 7 was created when Lewis Wheaton resigned after moving out of his ward. Mayor Derek Norton and council members have expressed support for Young's appointment. Young, a part-time college and career adviser at Campbell High School, has a background in economic development and civic involvement. The city charter mandates the filling of the vacancy, and the process for a special election was discussed but deemed impractical. Young's appointment will be determined in the upcoming council meeting.   We'll be right back   Break:   ESOG– Dayco - Elon   STORY 4: seniors   The nonprofit Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County organized the Free Resources for Seniors Expo at the Acworth Community Center. The event aimed to connect seniors with no-cost or low-cost services to enhance their lives. Booths provided information on various topics such as hearing impairment, mental health services, power bill discounts, Medicaid/Medicare fraud, home sharing, and senior independent living homes. The expo allowed seniors to ask questions and gather valuable information from professionals without being solicited. The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County serves as an advocacy group for seniors in Cobb County, collaborating with the county government and providing programs and events.       STORY 5: mccoy   County Administrator Michael McCoy was reportedly fired by four members of the Dougherty County Commission due to allegations of population loss and failure to attract major manufacturers to the county. However, many skeptical individuals believe there are deeper reasons for McCoy's dismissal. McCoy had previously demonstrated exceptional performance as manager of the county's landfill and had gained respect from state officials and county employees. However, an incident in 2018 involving County Commissioner John Hayes and McCoy during an educational field trip resulted in controversy. McCoy filed a lawsuit against the county, claiming a hostile work environment, which was settled out of court. Other incidents involving the commissioners' actions and expenses have also emerged. He was awarded a $500 scholarship to support his Catholic high school education. Additionally, Paige Cunningham received the inaugural KofC Rising Star Scholarship from St. Joseph Catholic School. The athletic director, Matt Williams, expressed his pride in this achievement, emphasizing the importance of building relationships with students, families, and the community. The school promotes character development and encourages participation in community service. North Cobb also offers a class on sportsmanship and emotional expression for coaches and athletes. Positive Athlete, founded by Hines Ward, awards college scholarships to high school student-athletes. Additionally, several student-athletes and coaches from various schools in Cobb County were honored for their positive attitude and leadership.   Story 9:  Walker   Charlie Condon, a first baseman/outfielder for the Georgia Bulldogs baseball team, has been invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team summer training camp. Condon, a native of Marietta, will compete with other college players for a spot on the final 26-man U.S. roster. The camp will include 56 top non-draft eligible college players and will feature a four-game intrasquad series in North Carolina. Condon, who had an impressive season, was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. He was also honored as a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and named SEC Freshman of the Year.
