Welcome to the 11th episode of the Stairway to Eleven rock music podcast, where we venture into the vibrant sonic realms of three extraordinary albums: Devin Townsend Project's dynamic "Addicted," Humble Pie's enduring classic "Smokin'," and The Tea Party's enigmatic gem "Splendor Solis." Join us on a voyage through these diverse yet equally enthralling records, as we dissect their musical intricacies, lyrical richness, and enduring impact on the landscape of rock music. From Townsend's electrifying energy to Humble Pie's raw blues-infused soundscapes and The Tea Party's mystical allure, each album promises a distinctive journey that etches itself into the very fabric of the listener's soul. So, tune in and prepare to be swept away into the heart of rock 'n' roll greatness.
Episode 6 is with an artist named Blindboy out of Ireland who has created some of my favorite content over the past few years. From his band ‘The Rubberbandits' to his numerous tv shows, podcast and books, he's a great hang and unafraid to investigate the same sort of stuff I like to think about. To those wondering about the ads for Inside Out bands on this podcast, please consider this: touring is where artists generally make income in this day and age and in order to really get into my work and write without interruption for this year or so, I needed to keep the boat afloat and Inside Out has generously allowed me to do that by funding this podcast. Please understand they are doing me a tremendous service by allowing this to happen, so it means a lot to be able to help them out in return. Hope you're well, keep writing :) -Devin Listen to the podcast here: https://devin-townsend.lnk.to/Podcast This podcast is brought to you by InsideOutMusic. Interview by Kris PetersDevin Townsend is one of the few musicians who globally needs no introduction.Whether it be for his work with Strapping Young Lad or the Devin Townsend Project or anywhere in between, the man is an enigma. A legend. And a true gentleman of the metal scene.Known for his boundless energy and creativity, Townsend touches down in Australia this month for a run of four shows only, playing a splattering of everything from his back catalogue and material from his new album Lightwork. It promises to be one of the tours of the year, with the man himself sitting down with HEAVY recently to tell us all about what to expect."The thing is, I've had the good fortune of playing with some fantastic musicians throughout my career," he measured. "But the group of people I've got working with me right now are the most capable of playing everything, so it's allowed for me to put together a set that I think is… a good cross-section of material. Also, because I've been touring with them for this whole year - and the sound person - I'm confident that it's the best I've been able to present the material by a longshot. Having that is really great for me, because, although it's been good in the past also there's been certain things where I think 'man, I wish that was different' or I wish that was articulated differently or maybe this player's really good at this but no so good at that or vice versa - not to be disparaging against anybody I've worked with, I've just got, like you say, a huge amount of material that typically I use different players for all of them. So what I've done with this recent one is I've just found people that I am confident can do all of it. And they had to learn how to do all of it too. The first thing that I did with some of these players… they didn't know how to play some of the stuff, and it took them touring to figure it out. Now, I feel that the presentation of the material is… I'm excited to be able to show it to people because I'm like, 'this sounds fucken great'. That's how I feel."In the full interview Devin talks about writing set lists, his essential non-essential things to pack for tour, pleasing as many fans as possible, what we can expect from the shows, the early days of his career and what he was expecting out of music, what some of his motivating factors were, how early experiences helped shape his career, what drives him to keep experimenting, retaining his passion for music, the creative process and if it becomes easier or harder over time and more.
The DTPodcast is intended as a real time counterpart to the making of one of my projects. In this inaugural episode, (prior to getting into the nuts and bolts of it all) I discuss the concept of Synesthesia (when your brain routes sensory information through multiple unrelated senses, causing you to experience more than one sense simultaneously) the misconceptions of it, and how it acts as simply another type of musical vocabulary. How it relates to my work, and questioning if its actually a learnable trait. This podcast is brought to you by InsideOutMusic. The first song of the Jazz-Metal band Shoo Bee Doom. This song was created after hearing dozens of stories of friends, and how they were mistreated by the education and health system. This song is talking about our need for medicinal help, and that unfortunately, the doctors have no time to help. We wrapped this whole song in a happy tune, and the saying "Everything is going to be OK" is what triggered this whole song Songs featured in this episode: Volbeat - For Evigt ft. This month we're we're a mere decade away from our current time as we ignore the Mayan doomsday prophecies and choose our favourite songs of 2012. We'll also be talking about making country legends cry, Turkish goth music, & Tracey's secret love of krautrock. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. In Episode 8 of The Extreme Drummers Podcast I speak to Dirk Verbeuren, drummer of Megadeth, Cadaver, Brave The Cold, Bent Sea, Scarve, Tronos + many more ...Dirk truly needs no introduction, starting as the drummer for French technical metallers Scarve and now serving as the drummer for the legendary Megadeth, he has proven that his drumming chops are incredibly proficient and versatile.Aside from Megadeth, Dirk plays in many other projects including Cadaver, Brave The Cold, Tronos, Bent Sea (his own band) and many more. He has also previously played for Soilwork, The Devin Townsend Project, Aborted, Satyricon and again ... many more.Dirk is a truly incredible drummer, blending speed, power, creativity and groove seamlessly to form a very unique and inspiring playing style. He is one of my favourite drummers and definitely a gigantic influence on me and my playing, so it was a pleasure to have this chat with him and see how his mind works. My guest this week is producer, engineer, mixer, guitarist, bassist, and espresso master Adam "Nolly" Getgood. You may know Nolly from his work playing with Periphery or producing bands like Animals As Leaders, The Devin Townsend Project, Architects and many more. I pretty much explained the many strings to Nolly's bow in sentence one so obviously we spoke about those, as well as his VST instrument company GGD, our thoughts on drums, drum tracking and what makes a good drummer, as well as coffee and of course: his favourite bands.

One of the more influential and fundamental artists in the world of modern rock/metal music, Devin Townsend, joins us today on IUF. From fronting the highly lauded bands like Strapping Young Lad and The Devin Townsend Project – Devin has collaborated with a countless amount of other talented bands/musicians throughout his decorated career. Now that the live concert experience has been on hold for nearly a year, we ask Devin about his touring perspectives that he appreciated the most. One noticeable element about Devin was the presence and passion he always left out on the stage when it came to performing; It was something anyone at any show would remember. The relationship between the artist and fan cannot be overlooked, and Devin speaks out on how much he has valued that over the years. And lastly, we also talk about the quarantine concerts he managed to pull together during the first stages of the pandemic, and how he raised money while donating the benefit proceeds to hospitals and health services. Devin is always striving to make a positive impact within the community – no matter the size. His energy and motivation just seems to be unmatched, and that's a good thing to serve as an inspiration where many have pointed out about him. With new music now on the horizon, Devin looks forward to this new uncharted chapter in hopes of continuing to bring his passionate work out into the world once again.

“All the decisions you make have brought you to where you are at this point in your life. You have to live with that.” Ryan Van Poederooyen is a drummer, public speaker, and drum instructor from Vancouver, Canada. Ryan is best known as the drummer of the former bands Devin Townsend Band and later the Devin Townsend Project. Ryan essentially took over the reins of the drum throne from the legendary drummer Gene Hoglan, who played with Devin in Strapping Young Lad. Since then, Ryan has recruited a supergroup of musicians to create Imonolith. Ryan expects that their debut release will become available in 2020. Besides drumming, Ryan is a huge advocate of motivating human beings. He has an incredibly strong message that empowers people to rise to their greatness. He has a very unapologetic and realistic take on how our decision making leads us to our current reality. Ryan also promotes goal setting, physical and mental health, doubling down on your dreams and above all, working hard. I believe that this conversation with Ryan will speak loudly to listeners. This is an incredibly powerful interview that reminds us all that we all have one chance in life to make something happen. We need to set ourselves up for success in activities and career paths that can enrich our lives and help us become better people. Don’t sleep on this one! You Will Hear About…. Our first experiences with Sonor drums Ryan’s dog Frodo and a funny story about Dave Atkinson’s dog Guinness. Ryan’s new band Imonolith. How we can live with our decisions. Can we invest in maybes? Ryan’s goal setting formula called “The Four-Fives” Why Should You Listen? This episode has so much value in it I can’t even begin to explain. You could spend hundreds of dollars to get this type of information from a person like Ryan. Would you ask the right questions to get the right answers? You can leave that to me. This conversation goes so far beyond drumming. This is about our lives and how to make the most of it. Music used in this episode: The Devin Townsend Project - UNIVERSE IN A BALL! Buena música, interesantes tertulias y risas aseguradas. ¡Bienvenidos a Subterranea!

Devin Townsend returned to the podcast while Danko was at the Namm show in Los Angeles this past January to talk about attending Namm, Mutation, The Wildhearts, Chris Jericho and Tiffany. His brilliant new album, Empath, is out now. The post Episode #192: Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend Project) appeared first on Danko Jones.
Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History. My guest this week is Devin Townsend, currently spearheading back into his solo work, but he is also known for his work in bands such as Strapping Young Lad, Ziltoid the Omniscient, and Devin Townsend Project . Devin was gracious enough to give me a short amount of his time to talk about his upcoming album “Empath” that will be released March 29th. We discussed working with all the guest artists he chose including Beneath the Massacre's Elliot Desagnes. Devin touches on all the emotional aspects that went into making Empath and the almost cathartic sense instilling all his influences and styles into one cohesive record, to which Devin says that its from a place of “mid life crisis” And finally we touch on his writing style for the record including the 23 minute long closer “Singularity” Order "Empath" HERE
Metal V talks to Devin Townsend about his upcoming album EMPATH and the processes that he went through and discovered about himself whilst writing and finally hearing Empath completed for the first time as well as discussing Devin's reasons for deciding to disband the Devin Townsend Project and over all the enormity of content heard on Empath

In today's podcast we're talking to the man who's been providing the low end for the Devin Townsend Project.Brian 'Beav' Waddell is busy gearing up for shows with The Devin Townsend Project, who are about to hit the road with Clutch and The Obsessed as part of the “Psychic Warfare” tour. Having released 24 studio albums in the last 22 years, Devin is one of the most prolific artists in any genre of music. A seasoned pro himself, it's Brian's intuition that has often proved as valuable as his musicianship. And with a new album, Transcendence, to promote and a packed touring schedule stretching ahead of the band, fans can expect plenty of more of his brutish bass riffs.
