Dom welcomes back in Councilmember Anthony Phillips back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss his continued effort to ban ski masks in the City of Philadelphia, particularly after getting his bill passed by a large majority in City Council. The bill, which has been deemed ‘unconstitutional' by opposing groups, has not been utilized in enforcement, with Phillips explaining how he continues to fight for police enforcement of the new law. Then, Phillips tells about a bill he introduced today, the Parent Engagement and Responsibility Bill, which seeks to empower parents to make educational decisions for their children. Dom welcomes in Representative Amen Brown back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the importance of a few bills that have recently passed in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. First, Rep. Brown offers his thoughts on Philadelphia City Council's Anthony Phillips and his bill that he recently got passed that bans the wearing of ski masks in public places, explaining that wearing these face masks only invites police questioning after a string of crimes with perpetrators using them to hide their identities. Then, Amen offers his thoughts on PA Senate Bill 140, a new bill passed in State Senate that limits Krasner's prosecutorial power, disallowing him the ability to prosecute crimes within 500 yards of a SEPTA station. Also, Brown explains why he voted in favor of Taylor Swift, explaining he was fearful of becoming the next topic of one of her songs. (Photo by Getty Images)
Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing the passing of Act 40, a bill in the Pennsylvania State House that disallows prosecutions from controversial DA Larry Krasner on crimes taking place within 500 yards from any SEPTA property. Then, Dom offers an update on the Biden administration's continued effort to spin the rampant inflation we see in our everyday lives, revealing the next chapter in the Bob Casey ‘skrinkflation' saga, after he was last caught counting Kleenex. Then, Dom welcomes in Representative Amen Brown back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the importance of a few bills that have recently passed in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. First, Rep. Brown offers his thoughts on Philadelphia City Council's Anthony Phillips and his bill that he recently got passed that bans the wearing of ski masks in public places, explaining that wearing these face masks only invites police questioning after a string of crimes with perpetrators using them to hide their identities. Dom welcomes newly elected Democratic Philadelphia City Council Member Anthony Phillips onto the show for an incredibly candid interview about the state of crime in the City of Philadelphia. Phillips, a leading force behind a bill in Philadelphia that bans the wearing of ski masks in public places, offers his opinion as to why the City is in the dire state that we see it. Phillips, a young black man himself, takes aim at the Progressive sect of his party that acts as if they know better than he himself who has the lived experience, and mentions how he plans to work with the District Attorney's office to make the City safer. From the north of England this drummer was gigging by the age of 13, playing working mens clubs for a wide palette of comedians, strippers, would-be pop stars and opera singers, gaining both small and big band experience. The Early 80s included gigs & sessions for Sir Paul McCartney, Anthony Phillips of Genesis, and various pop and jazz groups of the day. Countless tv commercials and further film and TV work followed before being invited to step in as drummer for Nina Simone who was playing a 2 week stint at Ronnie Scott's Club in London. This turned into a 19 year gigging relationship encompassing multiple world tours. Embracing drum programming, which soon came on the scene saw sessions for Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and Mariah Carey plus tv shows both playing and programming with Whitney Houston, Smokey Robinson and Ray Parker Junior. Touring with the Art of Noise and album recordings for the likes of The Proclaimers, Van Morrison and The Per Shop Boys followed and then further sessions with Rod Stewart and Trevor Horn to name a few. Currently he is on tour with American blues artist Eric Bibb. Having played iconic venues as Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and Wembley amongst many worldwide, all of this still only skims the surface of this thoroughly accomplished musician.

Phillips started conversing with a decoy he thought was named "Kimmie", a fourteen-year-old girl, on December 9, 2006. He was regarded by Perverted Justice as a "fast mover." Using the screen name "g8rman21," a reference to his affinity for alligator hunting, he said that although he had examinations that evening, he would drive to her house afterward so they could "watch a scary movie and see if anything happens." He recognized that she was a child and called her cute, explaining that her age did not bother him. Phillips inquired if she was a virgin and whether she was still in junior high. He didn't want to talk about anything overtly sexual, as if he knew the decoy was attempting to set him up. At least a dozen times, Phillips warned the decoy not to inform her parents or anyone else and that he might get in trouble, showing that he was aware of her age and that what he was doing was improper.[1]
Artists making music without rules or limits set the tone for the advent of the Progressive Rock era!Genesis didn't set the world on fire at the start (not unlike other progressive pioneers), but their influence grew and changed through their early phase, even after Peter's solo departure. Like some of their contemporaries, the lineup that made the band's mark isn't the one they start out with. The Imbalanced Boys dig into that aspect, among other things related to the days from inception through Peter Gabriel's answering of his solo calling. Hopefully it will inform newer fans of this band, and set the table for what's next in their amazing history. We have fantastic sponsors of our podcast, please visit their web sites, and support those who make the show go:Boldfoot Socks https://boldfoot.comCrooked Eye Brewery https://crookedeyebrewery.com/Don't forget that you can find all of our episodes, on-demand, for free right here on our web site: https://imbalancedhistory.com/

In Hayden Pedigo's acoustic guitar playing one might hear the “loneliness and the space” of the Texas panhandle. The musician, composer, and former city-council candidate cites inspiration by guitarists from previous generations like Anthony Phillips (original Genesis guitarist), John Fahey, and Leo Kottke to sound very much like kickass fingerstyle guitarists of now, like Gwenifer Raymond and Toby Hay. Guitar nerds take note: Segovia is invoked, as are variations on multiple non-standard tunings, fingerpicks, and Leo Kottke's masterful banter stories. Hayden Pedigo's latest record, Letting Go, combines ambient electronics, English pastoralism, pedal steel, and fingerstyle guitar on both 6 and 12-strings for really melodic pieces in hard-to-replicate tunings. Pedigo plays remotely from Lubbock, TX. - Caryn Havlik Set List “Carthage,” “Some Kind of Shepherd” “Letting Go” Watch "Carthage": Watch "Some Kind of Shepherd": Watch "Letting Go":

Cum a apărut?

Scot and Jeff discuss Genesis (1967-1975) with Patrick Frey. Introducing the Band: Your hosts Scot Bertram (@ScotBertram) and Jeff Blehar (@EsotericCD) with guest Patrick Frey. Patrick has been a blogger of national repute since 2003 and is still committed to the form, even though it has been dead for years. Read his work at Patterico's Pontifications and follow Patrick on Twitter at @Patterico. Patrick's Music Pick: Genesis We've been waiting here for so long to discuss this band, and all the time that's passed us by? It hardly seems to matter now, because Political Beats is finally tackling the first half of Genesis's career (the Peter Gabriel years; 1976-1997 will come in our next installment) with the sort of reverent fervor that only happens when one of the show's two hosts is discussing their single favorite group of all time. No prizes for guessing which of the two co-hosts feels that way about them. During this era Genesis — originally formed by a group of 16-year-olds at a genteel London-area private school — rapidly evolved from a halting group of adolescent pop songwriters (failed pop songwriters, mind you) into one of the biggest progressive rock bands of all time. Later, after the years discussed in this episode, they would also become one of the biggest commercial successes on the planet as well, without ever really losing the core of what made them uniquely Genesis. But for now, buckle up as the gang travels through tales of Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Steve Hackett, and a young drummer you might have heard of by the name of Philip Collins. This is some of the best, most well-composed, goofiest, and most profound music ever made during the 1970s, extremely British but also universal in its eternal musical verities. For the next three hours we will enjoy selling you England by the sound. P.S. Don't worry, none of you are going to die. But you may need to make a visit to the Doktor when all is said and done. If you think that that's pretentious . . . well then, you've been taken for a ride.
AWAKEN – YES - GOING FOR THE ONE – 1977 . I saw Genesis twice. Once in 1980, and then the next year. As I had worn out the grooves of Seconds Out, their live record from 1977, I somehow expected a duplication of the same, which meant playing some of those wonderful tracks from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. I remember them doing lots of tracks off of the album Duke, which was fine, but the next year, when Abacab came out, it was, I knew, time to move on to other things. The main line-up of Genesis during their glory days was Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, and Phil Collins. Rutherford and Banks wrote "Squonk". Tony Banks wrote "Mad Man Moon" and "One For The Vine". For chrissakes. So what happened? I dunno. Pay me and I'll tell you. I have an idea. Peter Gabriel - A Wonderful Day In A One-Way World (1978) Any prog fan worth her salt recognizes that Chapman Stick being played by the most famous progenitor of the same, Tony Levin. Aside from being in King Crimson, he was in the movie "One-Trick Pony" with Paul Simon. But there's the Chapman Stick. Anthony Phillips - Musical Box (demo) (1969) The opening track from the band's third album, Nursery Cryme, was, as you hear here, the birth-child of Anthony Phillips. Anthony Phillips - Um & Aargh (1979) The drummer is Michael Giles, the drummer for King Crimson's first two albums. King Crimson's family tree, especially in the Prog world, is deep and wide. Brand X - Nuclear Burn (1976) Phil Collins side-project that started off in the Mahavishnu-Chick Corea vein of Electric Jazz, but, like everything Phil Collins touched, devolved into pure pop. Flaming Youth - Mars and Jupiter (1969) Phil Collins' pre-Genesis band recorded one album, Ark 2, a concept album about "the evacuation from a dying Earth". It's not bad. I think lots of these bands in the early days of Prog were trying to resolve Sgt. Pepper and The Beatles' affection for and use of old Music hall tropes with Robert Fripp's dexterity and distortion. Genesis - A Winter's Tale (1968) This single pre-dates their debut album, From Genesis To Revelation (1969) Genesis - Hair on the Arms and Legs (1967) Genesis - It's Yourself (1976) B-side of "Ripples". There's a section that sounds like "Los Endos" as if it were meant to be a segue of sorts. this is from the Trick of the Tail sessions, the first album after Peter Gabriel left. It's a great record. Genesis - One-Eyed Hound (1968) Genesis is a band with lots of pre-fame rarities that are worthy of a listen, if only for Gabriel's authoritative voice. Their first album sold 650 copies. Genesis - Patricia (1967) Genesis - Shepherd (1970) Genesis - The Day The Light Went Out (1978) B-side of the "Many Too Many" single. Genesis - Try a Little Sadness (1967) Tony Banks is a more prominent backing vocalist on these early sides. Good? Bad? Genesis - Inside and Out (1978) The Spot The Pigeon EP was released when we would have bought a Genesis Taxidermy Kit if we had the money. But the more I heard it, the more I realized that there was a really fundamental shift in the basic tenets of one of my favorite bands. According to Wikipedia: "The song was performed several times on the Wind & Wuthering tour in 1977. The first section, "Inside", concerns a man who is wrongfully imprisoned of rape. The second section "Out", is an instrumental passage that represents the man's freedom." Mike Rutherford - Hideaway (1982) Mike Rutherford sings with the inflections of Phil Collins and the pipes of a drunken Dennis Wilson. Some of the drums on this album by Stewart Copeland. They were on the same polo team. The same polo team. The same fucking polo team. Peter Gabriel - Moribund the Burgermeister (1977) Nothing but quality from this great. The more I listen the more I realize that he was the heart and soul of that group. Genesis was a different, much less chance-taking group when he left. They must have known this when they heard this album the first time. Peter Gabriel - Biko (1980) Phil Collins played drums on this record, but if you listen, there are no cymbals on the entire thing. Peter Gabriel - No Self Control (1980) Robert Fripp appears. He of King Crimson. See? I never said Phil Collins was not a master. He is and was. But the Genesis that old people like me love is the one with this guy sitting in the studio and saying "Why not?" "No cymbals. Why not?" Robert Fripp appears on the album. He of King Crimson. See? Phil Collins - Tomorrow Never Knows (1981) From his first solo album, which marked the beginning of the subsumption of the entire pop landscape in the '80s. Robert Fripp - Here Comes The Flood (1979) PG on lead vocals. Steve Hackett - Tigermoth (1979) Mike Rutherford - Time And Time Again (1980) Released two solo records, and then formed Mike and the Mechanics. Tony Banks - A Curious Feeling (1979) In the words of the Mighty Lew, why are all the solo albums by the two main Genesis songwriters so bland and safe? Could it be David Hentschel's ever-repeating production tricks? He says it's all down to chemistry. I honestly think that the core had the feeling there wasn't anything they couldn't do. And when people started leaving, that precious balance dissipated and mutated. Tony Banks - This Is Love (1983) Genesis - That's Me! (1969) Genesis - Supper's Ready (coda) (1972) I am saying this because it's my show and I want to tell you. After Peter Gabriel sings "The new Jerusalem..." the band plays the coda chords for a while. If you own the original vinyl version, you might listen to the fade-out. There's a bass pedal mistake at the very end that was corrected when they mixed it for CD release.

As a founding member of Genesis, Anthony Phillips was considered to be the driving force in the early days, and his departure almost ended the band. He has since created a wealth of solo material, and in this episode the Tabletop discusses his 1978 sophomore effort, “Wise After The Event.”

On the heals of the last mix, which was sort of modern classical, comes another neo-classical type mix. I started collecting tunes for this mix after I heard Alva Noto's "Argonaut Version" in a Quiet Sounds mix. I like that song & wanted it to find a home in a mix. Speaking of Quiet Sounds, there are some excellent mixes available for download there. I wish Brian would crank them out more often. I stole the title for this mix from a song by The Tumbled Sea, which is next to last in the mix. It just sounded like a good title & it fit with the crappy weather we've been having here. The mix ends with a sort syrupy tune from Anthony Phillips. It may be a bit too sweet but it's one of those tunes that I have always liked, goes back to college days. i don't know if I was hearing it for the first time now, whether I would like it as much. I'm sure a big part of the song's attraction is it's nostalgic significance. Anthony Phillips is the original guitarist for Genesis and back in high school & college I was a HUGE Genesis fan. Actually I still am, but that was how I came to Phillips' music back then. It was nice to sneak that track into a mix. Make some tea or coffee & enjoy "songs for staying in".
