Kris Myers was born on April 5, 1977. Receiving a drum kit at the age of 8, he took an early interest in jazz, rock and punk music. During high school Myers co-started his first musical outfit, a ska/punk band called the Skalawags. The group received a decent amount of success but denied an offer to tour Japan to instead pursue college degrees. Myers attended Elmhurst College from 1995 – 1999 where he was a music major and the drummer in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Under director Doug Beach, the Elmhurst College Jazz Band played gigs in the U.S. and Internationally at events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2001 Myers enrolled in DePaul University where he earned his master's degree in jazz drumming and was a member of the Rob Parton Orchestra. In addition to his involvement in school bands, Myers was playing in festivals with a variety of jazz artists such as Nicholas Payton, Diane Schuur, Randy Brecker, Dennis DiBlasio as well as local musicians Mark Colby and John McLean. Myers also was a member of Chicago jazz fusion band Kick the Cat. Myers began playing drums for progressive-rock band Umphrey's McGee in 2003 following the departure of original drummer Mike Mirro. With Myers at the helm, Umphrey's has released ten albums and maintains a rigorous touring schedule of over 100 live shows per year. Umphrey's has performed at legendary festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre and more. With Umphrey's, Myers has shared the stage with countless notable musicians such as Buddy Guy, Huey Lewis, Ivan Neville, Les Claypool, Stephen Perkins, Mike Keneally, Joshua Redman, Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Victor Wooten, Adrian Belew, Stanley Jordan, Gene Ween, Derek Trucks and Jason Bonham. In 2011 Myers was honored with the title of Best Jam Band Drummer by DRUM Magazine, beating jamband stalwarts such as Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers) and Jon Fishman (Phish). In 2018, Myers was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer's July issue. Myers placed second in the Experimental Rock category of the publication's “Readers Poll Awards” behind St. Vincent drummer Matt Johnson. When he's not behind the drum kit, Myers enjoys playing golf, attending concerts, hiking and collecting art. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Devin Townsend founded the extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and was its primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007. He has also had an extensive solo career and has released more than 29 albums across all of his projects as of 2023. Townsend announced the 3rd release in his Devolution series – ‘Empath Live In America', released on August 4th, 2023. The Devolution series so far has comprised some unique live performances, and this one was no different. ‘Empath Live In America' is a document of the tour that was cut short in early 2020 due to the onset of the pandemic. As Devin explains: “This was a very unique tour for me, and one that was regrettably cut short by the pandemic. It was a stripped back version of the ‘Order of Magnitude' band (without choir and a few other members…), but as I try to do with each tour, the goal was to make this a unique and special night. Therefore, this tour marked a ‘free form' version of the material. Townsend will be continuing his tour to the land of down Fremantle Australia beginning November 8th of this year. It's been 25 years since Devin released the first solo album under his own name dubbed: "Infinity". That calls for a celebratory release, so we proudly present the "Infinity 25th Anniversary Edition"! The album is set for release on the 24th of November 2023. This newly remastered version of the album comes as a Limited 2CD Digipak, Gatefold 180g 2LP + LP-booklet & as Digital album, and includes all the bonus tracks from this era, as well as newly shot artwork & liner notes from Devin. Sinopsis: La bicefalia dentro de las jerarquías nunca ha sido buena, hecho que van a comprobar en sus carnes los tripulantes de la Sinforprise. La tensión va en aumento poco a poco y por eso será necesario seleccionar una buena banda sonora que distraiga a la tripulación y deleite a los escuchantes, tarea que recae en los miembros más rockeros. ¿Será adecuada para calmar los ánimos o los exaltará aún más? Si quieres comprobarlo tendrás que darle al play. Zappa Alumni Releases New Album, "The Thing That Knowledge Can't Eat"#frankzappa #newmusic #newalbum #guitarist #keyboard Zappa Alumni Mike Keneally To Release New Album “The Thing That Knowledge Can't Eat” feat. Steve Vai, Eric Slick, Nick D'Virgilio and others!Frank Zappa alumni Mike Keneally will be releasing his new solo album “The Thing That Knowledge Can't Eat” on Feb. 24, 2023. Pre-orders are available NOW at https://store.keneally.com . The eagerly awaited release features guest appearances by Steve Vai, Eric Slick, Nick D'Virgilio and others.Says Mike, “This is my first new solo album in seven years - the last one was ‘Scambot 2' in 2016, so this one has really been a long time coming. About half of the material on the new album was in the works prior to the pandemic, but the other half was created at home in lockdown in 2020 and 2021, and all the finishing touches were placed on the songs during 2022, so it's been in the works for a while. I've never done so much work on an album on my own, so the learning curve was steep, but I did have help from friends all along the way, including farming out tracks to drummers who were also locked down at home. I wrote all the songs, and the lyrics of the later songs definitely reflect the strange times during which the album was finalized. A lot of my past albums have been lengthy, extended works, but this one is a tight 42 minutes, nine songs - I think it goes down pretty smooth but it travels to a lot of different places along the way. I'm extremely happy with it, and very grateful to finally be able to share it with everyone.”Watch the first video from the album for the song “Celery” (featuring Steve Vai): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ndhNYBWtxATo purchase: https://store.keneally.com/products/mike-keneally-the-thing-that-knowledge-cant-eat-cd-plus-downloadPatreon: https://patreon.com/MikeKeneallyFacebook: https://facebook.com/MikeKeneallyTwitter: https://twitter.com/mikekeneallyInstagram: https://instagram.com/mikekeneallyWebsite: https://mikekeneallymusic.bandcamp.com/music keneally.comStore: https://store.keneally.comYoutube: https://youtube.com/c/mikekeneallychannelofficialThanks for tuning in, please be sure to click that subscribe button and give this a thumbs up!!Email: thevibesbroadcast@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/listen_to_the_vibes_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thevibesbroadcastnetworkLinktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastTikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMeuTVRv2/Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheVibesBrdcstTruth: https://truthsocial.com/@KoyoteFor all our social media and other links, go to: Linktree: https://linktr.ee/the_vibes_broadcastPlease subscribe, like, and share!

“Supergroup” is a tired, overused term in music. However, when musical aces like guitarist https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/guthrie-govan-the-linguist (Guthrie Govan), bassist Bryan Beller, and drummer Marco Minnemann jam… they are an unrivaled force of nature. Each player has a remarkable resume: Govan has worked with https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/guitarists/porcupine-tree (Steven Wilson), Hans Zimmer, and Asia; Beller with https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/guitarists/joe-satriani (Satriani), https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/guitarists/steve-vai (Vai), https://www.premierguitar.com/artists/brendon-small-sh-t-i-couldnt-do-a-year-ago (Dethklok), and https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-dweezil-zappa (Dweezil Zappa); and Minnemann with the Mute Gods, Trey Gunn, H-Blockx, and Mike Keneally—among many others. What makes a supergroup novel is generally the collective's previous endeavors and collaborations. The magic with these three cats is that their superpowers combine to become a flashy and fluent highflying act. Formed unceremoniously for a performance at the 2011 Anaheim NAMM Show, this tremendously talented trio has released nine albums (five studio and four live) in 11 years. The attraction for both the audience and the band is the same: variety. In any given performance, you can hear them shift from Return to Forever to https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-yes-steve-howe-and-chris-squire (Yes) to https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-king-crimsons-robert-fripp (King Crimson) to https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/the-big-5/steve-vai (Vai) to https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundowns/tom-morello (Rage) to Funkadelic to moments of deranged Zappa. “We've been a pretty strange, eclectic band to begin with, as the music we do tips our hats to a lot of different styles,” notes Govan. “All I've ever done over the years I've been playing guitar is to just listen to everything around me and absorb the aspects of it that I liked. I've never felt an urge to specialize. I'm happy to keep combining whatever flavorings I like and rolling them all together.” The result: These three executive chefs put on a spicy clinic that would even please Gordon Ramsay. The Aristocrats' headlining 2022 run landed at Nashville's City Winery on July 27. Before the musical throwdown commenced, PG's Chris Kies hosted conversations that covered Beller's booming setup, including some old favorites and recovered friends (via social-media sleuthing), while Govan focused on detailing the slight-but-crucial changes to his signature Charvel and explaining his live tonal evolution—modernized with an all-encompassing Fractal Audio unit. First, you'll hear a brand new conversation with Zappa Band member Mike Keneally, who takes a deep dive into Zappa's records, followed by a throwback conversation with Frank's son Dweezil Zappa from 2016.
This "Paltrocast" features Darren's recent interviews with musician/author Kenny Loggins, actor/musician Vadhir Derbez, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, and musician Mike Keneally. Theme song by Steve Schiltz. Thanks for listening!
Baxie talks to the insanely talented Mike Keneally! Mike was not only discovered by Frank Zappa. Mike's first professional gig was replacing guitar legend Steve Vai in Frank Zappa's band in 1988! Since then, Mike has gone of to play with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, and many others. He's also recorded 15 solo records--including a 2012 collaboration with Andy Partridge from XTC. Mike is now touring the country with other Frank Zappa alums as The Zappa Band. And they are phenomenal! Listen on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Spotify, or on the Rock102 website.

He's been Joe Satriani's touring bassist since 2013, and also tracked Satriani's complete 2022 album The Elephants Of Mars. He was Steve Vai's choice for the 2009 live CD/DVD Where The Wild Things Are, and he also toured and recorded in the “band” Dethklok, a tongue-in-cheek extreme metal band borne of the hit Cartoon Network “Adult Swim” show Metalocalypse. He's been a musical partner of freak/genius guitarist Mike Keneally for over 20 years and 10 albums. On his own Bryan's 2019 solo release – the progressive concept double album Scenes From The Flood featuring Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Guthrie Govan, Mike Keneally, and many more – was hailed by multiple outlets as an instant classic. In the power super-trio The Aristocrats (with uber-players Guthrie Govan on guitar and Marco Minnemann on drums) he's a part of one of the hottest acts in rock/fusion today; their 2019 release You Know What…? debuted at #2 on the Billboard Jazz Chart.
Two great guitarists with legendary pasts, today on Talkin' Rock. Joe Bouchard, formally of B.O.C., talks about his new album, American Rocker. It's a throwback to the 70's in a big way. Oh, you wanted more cowbell, we give you more cowbell. He talks about the famous SNL skit and the impact it had on him. That's just for starters in this great conversation with Joe, a very fun interview. Up next, around the 31 minute mark, is Mike Keneally. Another guy I've never talked to, but found him very interesting and easy to talk with. He tells me how one joins the Frank Zappa band, the "vault" of Zappa material, and just some great conversation about Frank and Mike's own musical life. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 53 Original Progressive Rock Guitarist, Rob Wessel Robs' Bio: "I began teaching myself guitar at age 13 or 14. I began learning guitar parts off of rock records at about age 15. In my 20s and into my 30s I took lessons and classes at the WI Conservatory of Music in jazz guitar and theory. I had classes with John Foshager and David Hazeltine, lessons with Michael Sullivan, and an ensemble class with Don Linke. I attended guitar seminars at the National Guitar Workship with Mike Keneally, Jack Grassel, Matt Smith and Terry Syrek. I played in local groups Beacon and Jonah's Vacation and in my church's worship group through the 1990s. I played in classic rock cover group Thick Aza Brick from 2001 to about 2010. I played in local progressive rock group Lyndenthal from 2014 to 2019. I taught guitar lessons at Academy of Music in Menomonee Falls from 2001 to 2012, at Wondersound Music in Menomonee Falls from 2012 to 2020, and at North Shore Academy of the Arts from 2009-2015. I formed Concept of Innocence in 1998 to play my original progressive rock songs. The band ended up being a duo of myself and drummer Jim Kube and recorded one album, Songs From the Heart. The group ran its course after this album. Jim contributed to writing songs and performed drums. I wrote songs, and performed vocals, guitar, bass and programmed the synth parts. Since 2010 I have been spending most of the time I have to devote to music working in my home studio recording progressive rock, blues, and ambient/electronic pieces, which I've posted on soundcloud and have released on Spotify, itunes, etc. Since 2019 I've worked exclusively on another progressive rock release, which will feature new original songs similar to Concept of Innocence but also incorporating some of the ambient electronic and maybe even the blues sounds I've recorded. The name of the group whose album I released a year ago is Concept of Innocence. I am writing and recording more original progressive rock but don't yet know if I will release it under my name or a new band name." Literally one of the greatest success stories I've encountered, Mike Keneally's been consistently employed as a side man with some of the world's greatest guitarists, and as a solo artist with over 30 LPs to his name. How he pretty much manifested his successful audition with Frank Zappa is nothing shy of phenomenal Mike talks about the drivers behind his success, the mysterious brown triangles he saw floating above his head for 2 years, learning to cut himself some slack, learning to listen, looking for the win-win, and SO much more. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST FRIDAY MUSIC SHOWCASE #13 Artist: Robert Wessel Group: Concept of Innocence From the album Songs From the Heart by Concept of Innocence. "As in Art": Taken from a saying that I'm not sure I'm quoting correctly. Someone I know once said "You have to live in the real world!". I thought "What's the real world? It's what we make it. It doesn't have to be an ugly place. We can make it something beautiful, the way an artist makes a thing of beauty out of something ordinary". "From the Heart": There is something special and spiritual about music that comes from the heart. As a musician for many years, it has often been a battle between making music to appeal to some audience and making music that's true to myself. "Without Limits": A song in which I tried to capture the joy and exhilaration of a life lived in search of one's own destiny rather than others determining one's destiny, and of reaching one's fullest potential, not letting limitations hold you back. Spending the last 25+ years as a recording, touring, composing, and teaching bass player, Bryan Beller is a busy dude. He's built a solid reputation for working hard, masterfully melding taste and technique, and holding it down as a team player. Bryan's resume is chock full of some of the most technically sophisticated acts working today, including the Aristocrats (Guthrie Govan, Marco Minneman), Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, G3 (John Petrucci, Phil Collen), Dethklok, Mike Keneally of Zappa projects fame, and many others. Alongside his work as a performer, Bryan has also gained renown and respect among the bass community for his work as a masterclass clinician and his writing as a contributing editor contributor for Bass Player Magazine.

For the past twenty years, Opperman has been carving his own niche in today's modern music scene. In addition to his own music, Opperman has performed with and/or orchestrated music for such industry luminaries as Grammy-award winning guitarist Steve Vai, virtuoso musician Mike Keneally, Indian classical music masters L. Shankar (a.k.a. Shenkar) and Zakir Hussein, and former Duran Duran/Missing Persons guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, among many others. Opperman played piano on two of Steve Vai's Grammy-nominated compositions, "Lotus Feet" from Real Illusions: Reflections and "The Attitude Song" from Sound Theories, Vols. I and II, both with the Metropole Orkest and both nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Opperman's orchestration of "For the Love of God," also from those sessions, has exceeded 33 million views on YouTube. In 2001, he released the critically acclaimed Klavierstücke, a solo-piano album that piqued the interest of Steve Vai. Vai observed, “These days it's rare to hear a person squeeze the most out of the performance potential of a non-electronic instrument. His latest release “Chamber Music from Hell” has made it into major music magazines, received gushing critical reviews from colleagues and critics alike. “Someday, Opperman will be remembered as one of the greatest composers of the 21st century” —Jedd Beaudoin, Sea of Tranquility 0:00 Intro 03:04 Warm-Up questions 04:42 Chamber Music from Hell 07:16 Virtual artistic collaboration 08:53 It takes a village to raise an album 09:37 Algorithmic composition 12:07 Album artwork 14:08 Keeping it Tasty 15:08 Composing with AI algorithms 19:24 Aleatory composition: dice 21:43 Dan sticks his foot in his mouth 22:23 Are we living in a computer simulation?/Flat earthers/Shock Culture 28:53 Fermi Paradox & Aliens will eat us 33:11 The Cribbage Variations 34:24 Tone row composition 44:27 Undertale LIVE 47:35 Dan's worst moment on stage 48:23 Undertale LIVE 53:52 Hush hush! 54:23 Working for Steve Vai 1:00:41 Lifestyle: Sleep 1:05:07 Lifestyle: Mindfulness & Meditation & Single-tasking 1:06:06 Creativity: How to stay creative 1:08:45 Composing with flowerpots 1:10:07 Discipline & working hard 1:12:09 Composing: What time of day is best? 1:14:20 Composing: How much time? 1:15:40 Composing: Working to deadlines 1:17:32 Composing: Melody 1:19:11 Composing: Adovoding pattern making 1:2212 Composing: Where inspiration comes from 1:23:35 Performing: Injuries 1:24:42 Creativity: Maintaining creativity 1:27:42 Creativity: Time of day 1:28:23 Creativity: Burn out 1:29:01 Performance: Performance Anxiety 1:31:35 Start composing now #composing #composer #podcast #thebestmusicpodcast #musicpodcast Logo, Intro Video, and Branding: Arron Leishman Audio and Video: Zach Ramey zacherylramey@gmail.com Video Thumbnail: Jean Tomasulo https://www.behance.net/jeantomasulo Dan's Thumbnail Photo: John Mollura Photography

Bassist/composer Bryan Beller is well-known to fans of progressive music for his stellar work with The Aristocrats, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Dethklok, and Mike Keneally. Bryan's latest release, "Scenes From The Flood" is a massive concept album - an epic for the current moment. We dive deep into that, and have lots of fun touching on his love for Yes, Pink Floyd, and Meshuggah.
Mike and I catch up by talking through current topics but end up having a very cool walk down memory lane around his time spent with Frank in his finals years. Guitarist/keyboardist/composer MIKE KENEALLY is one of a kind. Mike is a musical force-of-nature and one of the most prolific artists I have ever known.
