ATAGI is yet to make a decision on whether they will recommend a fourth dose of COVID vaccine for under 65's. Mark Butler, Federal Health Minister, told Oliver Peterson that no decision was made today as further deliberations may be needed. "Look I think there is a strong case across the health system for expanding eligibility for a fourth dose," he said on Perth Live. "I'd be very surprised if it wasn't dropped. The federal government has ordered an urgent review of Australia's COVID-19 vaccine contracts, ahead of today's meeting of Commonwealth, State and Territory Health Ministers. Health Minister Mark Butler says while he has no primary concerns, the review is to ensure the arrangements signed off on by the former government remain fit for purpose.

It's not clear if the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid is going to continue suspension of the rule for all states or go ahead with a patchwork of policies. Plus, the court itself said it looks like mandate opponents will prevail as the case moves through the courts. We hear about poorer nations having trouble accessing vaccines but guess who's running short. Germany. But why? What makes it spread so fast? Preliminary data tells us Omicron multiplies about 70 times faster in our respiratory tract tissue than Delta does, then reaches higher levels in the tissue 48 hours after infection. This focus on the respiratory tract, instead of deep in the lungs, may suggest Omicron could cause less severe disease but scientists say it's still too soon to conclude that. The five states that had the most daily deaths per 100,000 are Montana, Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. There are 10,124,028 active cases in the United States.The five states with the greatest increase in hospitalizations per capita: Connecticut 77%, New Jersey 65%, Rhode Island 63%, North Carolina 62%, and Washington DC 55%. A series of documents released under Freedom of Information laws have revealed the Federal Health Minister's office didn't meet with COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer Pfizer until August last year.
Health Minister Greg Hunt said the procurement deal finalised with Pfizer in December was the best and only option. The federal Liberal government is unveiling a national strategy on dementia today. The announcement is being made by Federal Health Minister, Ginette Petitpas Taylor. Beginning this year, Ottawa will be investing $50 million over the next five years towards this new strategy. It will focus on prevention, raising awareness, fighting the stigma attached to the disease, and risk reduction among other initiatives.
