Mike Rogge is a journalist and film producer began at Ski The East then continued at Powder Magazine, ESPN, Vice Sports, and The Ski Journal. After that Mike went into writing, directing, and, later, shooting and producing short films that appeared across the world from the Brooklyn Museum to PBS and the Banff Mountain International Film Fest Festival. His company, Verb Cabin, purchased Mountain Gazette in January 2020 in an effort to bring back the beloved title. He loved nostalgia and the history of mountain culture. Mike also loves a good f*cking challenge. Mike's a massive Mets fan, so he's happy about the Juan Soto signing. mountaingazette.com https://www.instagram.com/mountaingazette https://x.com/skiingrogge --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matt-brown57/support

In ihrem Fall: Klassismus. In this season's summer bonus episode, you may be surprised to hear that the lowly vintage ferrotype plate still receives some academic and scientific research, 150+ years after its introduction. My guest, Dr. Corina Rogge, is the Director of Conservation at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas and has went where few have dared to go in the research of the tintype. Cory has written multiple articles on the constituents of vintage varnish and the recipes and manufacturing methods of japan plates. Listen in and discover that sometimes, what we read in the historic texts doesn't always line up with reality when in comes to tintype recipes.

WELCOME TO THE GREAT OUTDOORS—Mountain Gazette is one of those media … things … that only long-time fans really know about, with a long and colorful history. A kind of Village Voice of the outdoors, the first incarnation (1966) of the magazine was about mountains and for “mountain people”—a lifestyle magazine for those who weren't interested in either coast, let alone cities, let alone New York. Like many magazines, the Gazette succumbed to economic forces and shuttered. Twice. Until Mike Rogge, a journalist and film producer, and more important than that, an avid skier and outdoorsman, purchased the archives and the rights at a bar in Denver. The deal was drawn up on a napkin and consummated with a beer. Mostly he bought it because it was there.Rogge felt the media, specifically what he calls the outdoor media, was broken. Especially the advertising model. And he had grown tired of the arcane and opaque revenue streams of the digital world. So he decided to do his own thing. He rejected those models, and plowed into print. And he went big. Literally. The result is a magazine that is a success in every sense of the word: aesthetically, editorially, and financially. It's a black diamond in a magazine world that often feels like a series of bunny slopes. But Mike Rogge and Mountain Gazette have proven something: you can have your mountain and ski it too. Welcome black to Black Hoodie Alchemy! This week I'm joined by yet another special guest, researcher and longtime show-host, Jess Rogge of 'Escape the Simulation'. In her time involved with broadcast and internet streaming, Jess has talked all sorts of people -- from Tommy Chong to David Icke and so many more in between -- and her wealth of experience helps me navigate modern conspiracy theory lore in our chat. Jess is a researcher that is willing to look into just about anything with a healthy mindset that is equal parts skepticism and open-mindedness, whether it be esoteric knowledge or modern conspiracy theories. In this chat, we talk about Jess' Buddhist upbringing and her personal stumbling into the realm of conspiracy theories, and what it means to deal with these concepts and mindsets in the modern era. 9/11, the Illuminati, Alex Jones, William Cooper, David Icke, QANON and the post-Trump era of conspiracy theories, and many more topics are brought up in the chat as we try to our best to understand just what the hell is going on in the collective consciousness these days. Spanning numerous owners, iterations, and identities, Mountain Gazette has had quite a run since its founding in the 1960s. But in recent years, it’s definitively entered its modern renaissance under the guidance and wordcraft of owner/Editor-in-Chief Mike Rogge. Celebrating all things outdoors, the sizable magazine prioritizes art, photography, humor, and long-form editorial over plug-and-play content — notably abstaining from gear reviews and other consumer content. The long-running (off and on) mag just marked its 200th issue. And as Rogge — a ski bum turned editorial mastermind — explained recently on the GearJunkie Podcast, the publication is only gaining steam. In the wake of the sedition trial's collapse, Justice Department prosecutor John Rogge travels overseas and uncovers a bombshell. He finds evidence of a coordinated effort to subvert American democracy… as well as the names of high-profile Americans involved. Rogge then returns to America... and goes rogue. Risking his career as a prosecutor, he makes public what he's discovered about the fascist threat and the Americans who supported it. And he offers a prescient warning about an American criminal justice system that is ill-equipped to defend democracy from those who seek to destroy it.
