You will learn how you can scale your business even if you think you can't and especially if you have a service business. You will also learn how you can turn your business into an asset, the steps it'll take to be able to operate your business without you there, and the personal transformation journey you'll have [01:28] If you wouldn't mind sharing with our listeners about where you came from and what inspired you to do what you do today [01:47] Frank: I started out my businesses in tech and in finance and developed a bit of expertise, so it was just natural to have a consulting practice and it took me all over the globe [03:07] I knew I had to begin transforming what I built [04:06] Kevin: Why don't we start talking about the scaling of your business and transforming it through that to an asset [04:13] Frank: So the theoretical definition of scale is that when you get a new customer that you don't have to spend any more time (that's perfect scale)[04:31] Not everyone reaches perfect scale, but that's what we're going for [04:37] The thing you have to do is to remove yourself from the process ("fire yourself")[05:00] If you think about where you are involved in your business, there's probably 3 major areas that right now you're taking the roll and you have a hard time seeing someone else doing it[05:11] Sales and marketing[05:30] How do I generate leads and how do I close them without me? [05:34] Customer delivery[07:02] You have to find a problem and solve it (narrowing it down) [08:53] You want to hire an intrapreneur (same desire to build but they're willing to do it in your vision and structure and not for themselves) [10:50] Intellectual property (the hardest thing to move off) [11:42] These three things are so important because if I'm going to come in and buy your business, those are the three systems I'm going to be looking for [15:10] In terms of the e-myth, the core message is that there's a difference between someone who runs a business and someone who is a practitioner and a lot of times service businesses start with practitioners who want to start businesses[15:22] The overall flow of the e-myth start with you have to decide which of those two things you want to be (if you want to run a business, you have to transform yourself from practitioner to CEO) [16:10] We tend to work with service business owners that tend to deliver high value services (those are the ones that have the hardest time scaling because there's this siren song in internet land that the way to scale is to either become a software company or to become an information product company or a digital course company)[16:34] What ends up happening is that you have these high value service providers that charge $50,000 for a consulting arrangement and in order to

A common objection about running a service business, such as being a solo freelancer, is not wanting to just trade time for money. But that is only one model to run your service business, and it's not the most useful. Instead, think about your services as a product that you’re offering. A client signs-up, and you perform some defined result for them, and they pay you for that result rather than for the number of hours that you spent working on it. You can achieve financial success if you can build your service as a system that you can deliver over and over, instead of creating a completely 100% custom solution each time. Frank Bria calls this strategy the creation of a High Ticket Program and has applied it when consulting with Fortune 500 companies on multiple continents to help them structure and sell their own offerings. We are talking anywhere from tens of thousands to tens of millions of dollars in services sold. Frank Bria - Author and Business MentorFrank Bria is a self-titled "recovering consultant". He started off his career in the banking and high-tech finance world. He did a lot of tech start-up work and one of the companies he helped to get the banking business off the ground ended up selling for $175 million. He traveled all over the world and spent a lot of time with venture capitalist where he grew his consulting business. While it became very lucrative, it was also very exhausting. Frank came to a moment where he realized a change was needed. He started to see all the things he had been teaching to the larger companies about positing their products to sell were the same things that small business owners needed to know. Some of the initial feedback he received was that it was going to be too expensive for small business owners to do the same scaling techniques as the larger corporations. By educating small business owners that the broad concepts of scaling a business properly are not expensive at all. Now, Frank helps coaches, consultants and experts turn their six figure businesses into seven figure businesses. To be a successful consultant or coach, it can be a difficult life to live, income aside, because you are trading time for money quite a bit. Not a lot of people can tell you how to transition from one to the other. If you are starting from scratch, it is a little easier because you really don't have anything to lose. Whereas when you are already operating a six figure business, you don't really have that much time because you are so busy. The question Frank always gets asked is how do you take, what is basically that commodity that he charges so much for and now dedicate to build something else without losing income and taking years to grow their business.The Secret to Growing Your Business From Six to Seven FiguresThe secret is using information to build a better business. Many times using split testing or other tactics are good ways to learn what is working and what isn't. The problem is that many people don't have a strategy to leverage the framework to learn from what is happening and react to it. Most prospects, as they are growing go through certain phases. Where you can really learn about the various stages of growth is by seeing what happens in retail. If you go into a store and you are wandering around, you go through stages as you come closer to making a buying decision. If a customer is standing outside of a store loitering, he needs to have some information that would motivate him to get into the store. Once he makes it into the store, he is still kind of just wandering around and as soon as the sales person asks to help him, there's a pretty good chance that he would say "I'm just looking". There is an instant message. The reason that he doesn't want to talk to a salesperson is because he really doesn't know what he wants. Basically, he is just experiencing things. Frank Bria calls this type of person a looker. There are a lot of "lookers" in people's email list. Many people are on email list that are just trying to figure out whether or not they are interested in buying anything yet. However, there is a transition that happens somewhere along this journey that turns "lookers" into "shoppers". Really good retail people can sense this. When someone is aimlessly looking in the aisles, but when they start reading labels and making comparisons, this is the transitional behaviour a sales person looks for. Now the sales person can engage the "shopper" with a beneficial conversation. At some point, a decision to purchase is realized. Have you ever been in a retail store and haven't been able to find a cashier? The buyer wants to buy and can't buy. On the internet, when you go to purchase something when you are ready to buy, you may not be able to find what you are looking for easily. There are very specific calls to action that large corporations use that help to minimize the lack of finding a "cashier" when...
