What happens when music becomes more than entertainment — when it turns into a tool for presence, healing, and human connection? In this episode of Living on the B Side, I sit down with Joanne and Justin of Silvermouse, a genre-defying music duo weaving together psychedelic soundscapes, improvisation, and brainwave entrainment to create something truly unique. Their performances, often held in community gardens or tucked-away natural spaces, are not just gigs — they're experiences. Invitations to come home to yourself. We explore:• How their journey began through raves, jam bands, and creative curiosity• Their partnership with the Monroe Institute, a leader in audio consciousness research• The science and soul behind brainwave entrainment and how it subtly shifts states of mind• Why setting — the natural world, the people, the intention — matters just as much as the sound• And how music can be both meditative and freeing, especially for those who struggle to “quiet the mind”This is not about fixing anyone. It's about creating space — through sound, presence, and deep listening — for something gentle and real to emerge. If you've ever felt intimidated by meditation or longed for a more intuitive path to mindfulness and connection, this conversation might just offer the soft doorway in you've been waiting for.

Bio taken from IMDB One of the most respected Latina actresses in Hollywood, April Hernandez-Castillo's personal life story is one of victory. Her feature film debut as Eva Benitez in the Image Award-nominated MTV film, Freedom Writers (2007), alongside Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank, put her in the ranks of some of the biggest names in the industry. An actress with a blend of unlimited expression and humor, the Bronx (NY) native made her stage debut at the famous New York Comedy Club in New York City as a stand-up comedienne. As an actress, April expanded her stage experience to television. She got her first acting break as the Yo/Yoa Girl alongside NBA All-Star Houston Rockets center Yao Ming in the 2004 Super Bowl Visa Check Card national commercial. Next came major television roles that would include NBC's Emmy-award winning series ER (1994), Law & Order (1990) and 30 Rock (2006). Keeping an eye on the big screen, in 2007 she tried out for the role of a lifetime and got it--in "Freedom Writers". She would co-star alongside one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Hilary Swank. It was in this role that April would catch the attention of The View (1997) producers, who invited her to co-host the show. Reaching critical heights, her portrayal of Eva Benitez earned her recognition and critical acclaim confirming her status as one of the more talented up-and-coming actresses. Displaying the talent and drive to parlay success into a career as a respected actress, April garnered roles in the pilot Blue Blood (2008) on Fox and Showtime's Nurse Jackie (2009), CBS' Person of Interest (2011) and received a SAG Award nomination for her role as Officer Cira Manson in Showtime's award-winning drama Dexter (2006), a role in John Mitchell's sci-fi comedy The History of Future Folk (2012), guest-starred as Danny Pino's sister on NBC's drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and appeared in two episodes of FOX's hit show The Following (2013). April has demonstrated her versatility as an actress. However, her latest role is not in front of the camera but as a motivational and inspirational speaker. It's never easy writing the show notes when you weren't present for the podcast itself and consequently don't have the overall tone of the discussion to guide you. For instance, the guys talked about the Top 5 Hacking or Computers Scenes, but was any of it interesting? Almost certainly not. And what will special guest Rupert have to say about it all? And who is Rupert anyway?THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK (2012) has sat unwatched in my Netflix queue since I first joined the service, so I was delighted when listener Pearcey suggested we should watch it. Charming, low-budget sci-fi which sees Nils d'Aulaire as Bill aka General Trius who came to Earth many years in search of a new home for his fellow Hondonians but decided to stay after hearing music for the first time and falling in love. Soon his blissful and peaceful new life is disturbed by the presence of another of his race, the not quite right Kevin. With a refreshing lack of cynicism and a strong alien bluegrass soundtrack, I'm hoping the rest of the Dads and the enigmatic Rupert feel the same about this indie treasure. CAPTAIN PUGWASH is the spineless and stupid animated pirate captain of the Black Pig and is renowned for being awash with sexual innuendo. Everyone knows for instance about the characters Seaman Stains, Master Bates and Roger the Cabin Boy, and that ‘Pugwash' itself is derived from an Irish word for rimming except of course none of that is true, and reality is far less exciting though there is a character called Willy if you really love that sort of thing. Hopefully the mysterious Rupert will set us all straight. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. "Hondo!" This month, Steve digs through the archives to revisit The History of Future Folk, a quirky indie that punches well above its weight. Yes, it's a musical comedy about banjo-playing aliens. Yes, it's the fictional backstory of a comic duo you've likely never heard of. But in all the indsider-ness of _Future Folk, there's a delightful amount of heart that is so much more gratifying because my expectations were low going into it. Most gratifying? It’s time for the better half of the podcast! That’s right, Tina & Colette join their husbands to watch an Elvis picture! Where would bad movies be without bad musical numbers? Elvis is the king, but in Harum Scarum he could have been replaced by a wet blanket and no one would notice. This film lacks energy, not to mention acting, plot and choreography. Want to watch the film (at your own risk)? You can purchase it on YouTube. Otherwise it’s so bad that it isn’t currently available on Amazon, Netflix or iTunes. Check canistream.it to see if things have changed since this podcast was posted. Tina’s favorite musical is Phantom of the Opera, while Colette enjoys The Pirates of Penzance. Chris shares that he is not a musical fan unless in cartoon form. Paul enjoys Les Misérables, not to mention when TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer decide to do musical episodes. This season, Supernatural did a musical episode as well. As the old Eddie Murphy joke goes (NSFW), Elvis sings all his lines because he can’t act. Colette points out that if you look up harum scarum on Thesaurus.com, the words listed are a pretty good review of the film. 3 songs in the first 6 minutes of the film? YouTube can give you a sampling of the songs & their silly lyrics. Billy Barty has a mostly non-speaking role in the film. Very common in his early career. You’ll recognize him because he’s been in tons of stuff. One of our live listeners, hollow, “swears they’re just picking random numbers” in the script. A country unchanged for 2000 years, and yet they have Islamic holidays like Feast of Ramadan? In today’s world, Hey Little Girl seems creepy because he’s propositioning a 7yr old girl. Though, our parents assure us nobody would have thought this was inappropriate when this film came out in 1965. Paul spoils Scooby-Doo for all the listeners. The fight scenes are part parkour, part Zoidberg and part Urkel. Tina says this film was bad and would rather watch A Boy and His Dog again. Movies recommended this show, Singing in the Rain, Goonies, Zardoz and The History of Future Folk. Currently on the Netflix is The Machine. Always a pleasure to have Tina’s quick wit & Colette’s perceptive mind on the show. See you next season! Support Film Frown on Patreon

Episode-six of the “Hey You Geeks!!” podcast is the first of our Indie Geek Out episodes, a theme we’ll be revisiting every few months on the show. This week, we invite director Richard Griffin onto the show to discuss the three new films he has coming out over the next eight months; Exhumed, Murder University and Dr. Frankenstein’s Wax Museum of the Hungry Dead. Richard gives invaluable insight into what it truly means to make independent films in today’s digital age. After that, alien folk-rock duo Future Folk join us for a hilarious and musical interview about earthly domination, muzak, and their new film, The History of Future Folk.
