We can't believe it. Can you believe it? We actually finished reading Finnegans Wake. What started out as a podcast to read an "unreadable book" has turned into a journey that has endeared us to a magical community, connected with our family and friends, and reawakened our sense of what art can be. While sometimes it felt like climbing a sheer cliff-face, the toeholds we gained along the way made this a delightfully fulfilling project. For this final episode, Toby and TJ look back on WAKE and consider how you know when a project is over, embracing confusion, and how much we appreciate the spectators at the end of a marathon. We talk Joyce on film, Pinter, the Beatles, Lord of the Rings, and hypertexts, and pinpoint the exact moment the Harry Potter franchise lost TJ. We take on translation, and gimmicks, and mountaineering, and the question of how-fast-is-too-fast-to-read-the-Wake. Then, as we consider the stadium-sized Rubik's Cube that is the Wake, we are visited by the Patron Saint of WAKE for words of congratulations. It's an unmissable end to what has indeed proven to be a surprisingly listenable podcast. This week's chatters: Toby Malone, TJ YoungProgress: 628 pages complete, 0 pages to go; 100% read.Contextual NotesThe Patron Saint of WAKEMichael Ian Black congratulates WAKE! The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: From crocodile tears to absurd positions on the role of the press, HD84's Glasheen backer Lewis and attorney take some rather odd positions on and about free political speech in a press conference today. As with the Left, it seems things are only acceptable if it supports their position. Also, Mr. Lewis seems to have no problem making unfounded accusations about Tepper either. What we really found out in today's press conference was that Lewis has had a long running feud with Tepper over disagreements as to the significance of military veterans in the chronically homeless population and took it to the Glasheen campaign, using their money to attack Tepper in the HD84 race. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.U.S. Supreme Court says Texas must let clergy pray with prisoner, and lay on hands if wished, in the execution chamber. And, other news of Texas.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: The Texas House District 84 race in Lubbock county sees astronomical spending and yet leaves me befuddled as to just what type of “Republican” is the big spender, trial lawyer David Glasheen. Glasheen's wife Mary is featured in ads telling all her husband a “real Republican and true conservative.” How would Mary know? According to records she's not voted in the Republican Primary but did vote in the 2016 Democratic Primary – who for, Bernie or Hillary? Then David, the “real Republican and true conservative” appears not to have bothered voting in Republican Primaries from 2012 all the way through 2020! Eu me encorajo. A mulher continua tossindo. Eu desço, me afastando entorpecida do ônibus. “O silencioso”, penso. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/izabella-zanchi/message
