Florida Politics Publisher Peter Schorsch gives a recap of the special elections and discusses the battle between DeSantis and the Florida GOP.
Randy Fine locally and Jimmy Patronis in the Panhandle won special elections for Congress. But a left-wing candidate won the most expensive state supreme court election in history.
Elon Musk is taking center stage in Wisconsin's Supreme Court race. Some observers say WI voters are deciding between democracy and Donald Trump and Florida GOP candidates face a maelstrom from Trump's executive orders and poor campaign strategies in a special election.
It's a DOGE-eat-DOGE world. Before I get into my thoughts on DOGE—and I have quite a few—the reason I haven't written much about it (we did touch on USAID in Wednesday's update) is that I'm still wrapping my head around it.There's a lot of noise surrounding DOGE, and beyond the clatter, it's unclear exactly what's happening. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is in the valley. They lost a big election, have no effective power in government for at least the next two years, and have been throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall. Chuck Schumer was parading around with a Corona and lime when it looked like we were going to hit Mexico with 25% tariffs, and now, the focus of the last 72 hours has been Elon Musk and DOGE.Because DOGE sits at the center of a political noise machine, I tend to be cautious about jumping in while everything is still in motion. That being said, DOGE is a significant development. What they're doing is something every Republican candidate in my lifetime has promised—and it may very well be illegal. We don't know if they're actually cutting the budget in the way they claim, nor do we know if anything they're doing is truly unlawful. But the fact that both of those questions exist simultaneously is reason enough to take a deeper look.Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency—DOGE—was conceived during Donald Trump's 2024 campaign and made official on January 20, 2025, the first day of Trump's second term. However, it is not a formal cabinet department. Instead, it began under the U.S. Digital Service, which was rebranded as the U.S. DOGE Service, before being placed under the Chief of Staff's office—likely to avoid transparency requirements. The stated goal of DOGE is to modernize federal technology and software to maximize government efficiency, with Musk claiming they aim to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. Musk has admitted that if they say $2 trillion, they might actually cut $1 trillion, but the ambition remains.DOGE operates out of the Eisenhower Executive Building next to the White House with a small headquarters of about 20 people. Rather than a traditional hierarchy, it functions as a task force embedded across government agencies, with small teams of DOGE operatives placed inside agencies to audit systems and pursue efficiency measures. Musk himself serves as a special government employee, a temporary advisory role that grants him broad access while allowing him to bypass disclosure requirements that apply to full-time officials. This is especially notable given Musk's extensive business interests in China—something so controversial that a bipartisan group of lawmakers banned TikTok last year.Key figures in DOGE include Steve Davis, CEO of The Boring Company and a longtime Musk confidant, who allegedly leads day-to-day operations. Then there are the so-called “DOGE Kids”—young adults, typically aged 19 to 24, from elite universities with backgrounds in Musk companies or the Peter Thiel machine. Some, like Luke Farritor, gained fame for achievements like using AI to decode ancient Roman scrolls. Others, like Marko Elez, have already faced controversy. Ellis resigned after the Wall Street Journal uncovered racist posts he made in 2024, including advocating for eugenic immigration policies and saying he would never marry outside his ethnicity. In its first 80 hours, Musk tweeted that DOGE had canceled $420 million worth of federal contracts. Get it. The issue? DOGE doesn't technically have the authority to cancel contracts. That power belongs to Congress and the departments that administer the funds. So the real question is whether DOGE is canceling these contracts or simply recommending their termination, with the speed of the Trump administration making it appear as though they're acting unilaterally.DOGE's aggressive approach has already ruffled feathers. On inauguration day, Musk's team assumed control of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) headquarters, installing sofa beds in the director's office and working around the clock. Within days, they cut off career OPM staff from internal systems, effectively giving Musk's team exclusive control over federal HR records. Two OPM employees filed a lawsuit in late January, alleging that DOGE unlawfully installed a private server on the agency's network.Things escalated further when DOGE turned its attention to the U.S. Treasury Department's payment system, which processes $5 trillion annually, handling everything from Social Security checks to federal salaries. When David Liebrich, a top Treasury official, refused to grant DOGE access, he was reportedly forced out. By January 31, Trump's new Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, approved DOGE's access. Soon after, a DOGE tech aide obtained unrestricted access to the payment system's code base and began making changes with minimal supervision—an alarming development that has raised red flags in Congress. And then there's USAID. Musk tweeted, “We're shutting it down,” referring to the agency responsible for international aid. But does Musk actually have the authority to do that? Or is he merely advising Marco Rubio, who, as head of the State Department, technically oversees USAID?If Musk is making these decisions, it's illegal. If Rubio is doing it, it's just an unusually fast-moving government operation. The speed and opacity of DOGE make it difficult to tell the difference.Meanwhile, DOGE has brought a renewed focus on federal spending. Social media has been ablaze with revelations about who benefits from government funds. Bill Kristol, a Never Trump figure, was found to have received money through USAID-funded organizations. More controversially, it was revealed that Politico received $8.2 million in federal funding last year. While some jumped to the conclusion that this was a Democratic subsidy for favorable coverage, the truth is more complicated. The money was for Politico Pro, a premium service used by government officials and lobbyists for networking and policy tracking. However, everyone I talked to in pulling this together told me Politico Pro sucks. Specifically compared to competitors like Bloomberg Government, raising questions about why agencies chose it over better alternatives. So how does this end? At some point, DOGE will hit a regulatory or legal wall that slows its momentum. They need enough public goodwill to sustain them when that happens, or the entire operation could grind to a halt. There's already evidence that Musk's influence is waning. A YouGov poll from November 2024 showed that 47% of Republicans wanted Musk to have significant influence in government. That number has since dropped to 26%, with 43% now preferring that he have only limited influence. Among all Americans, only 13% want Musk to have a lot of influence, while 46% want him to have none.DOGE's speed and disruption are unprecedented, but whether they represent true reform or reckless overreach remains an open question. All that… plus Jen Briney gives me her Doge thoughts and our final assessments of the confirmation hearings. Karol Markowicz joins the show to discuss Trump's musings on Gaza and the GOP infighting in Florida over immigration.Chapters00:00 Intro00:56 Let's Talk DOGE24:02 Jen Briney on DOGE and Confirmation Hearings40:18 Jen Briney on Confirmation Hearings01:10:02 UPDATE01:19:06 Karol Markowicz This is a public episode. Truth Be Told with Booker Scott – Many MAGA supporters want pardons for all those involved in the “insurrection,” while others agree with Donald Trump's position. Her life stopped; it was turned upside down...

You asked! We listened! The $99 Annual Deal is extended until Election Day. Make sure you upgrade from your complimentary status if you are coming from Patreon! Here it is… Our conversation with Kevin Ryan on the state of the culture and philosophy that this election takes place in. With that, my final thoughts. Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. That's a quote from a Star Wars prequel and it's the final decider on who I believe will win the President, the Senate and the House. We will get back to that. First, let's empty the file on my 2024 election thoughts in order. First, the landscape…Donald Trump is a flawed candidate damaged by January 6th and hard capped at 48%It's the reason his party tried to overthrow him during the primaries. However, his resilience and ease in overcoming those challenges is telling. Donald Trump began to gain and beat Joe Biden in head to head polling after he was indicted and his New York trial had a positive effect on his pollingThis was the first moment I believed Trump could have a redemptive arc. If the public did not understand the charges against him and saw the prosecutions as political, he would be a martyr beyond core MAGA. The Dobbs decision has been rocket fuel for DemocratsIn off-year elections and special elections the present threat to reproductive rights have gotten Democratic voters to the polls. My criticism that they might be punished for not taking the threat seriously enough has not panned out as of yet. Joe Biden's presidency has been broadly unpopular and specifically unpopular with anyone who makes under $100,000 a yearBiden was elected in the panic of COVID to be a steady hand at the wheel. He lost that with Afghanistan and never regained it. The border went from a purely GOP partisan issue to a mainstream winner for Republicans almost entirely because of executive orders Biden made at the beginning of his presidency. Issue after issue, the same playbook unfolded… deny, deny, deny until you blame it on Trump. But nothing was more personal than inflation. A class warfare issue like no other. Personal story, my wife and I were driving to dinner with friends. The husband was at the wheel of their new Tesla. The issue of politics comes up. I mentioned Trump was doing well because of the economy. “But the economy is good?” Is the response. And it is a sentiment I've heard from many people in my orbit and online. The stock market is booming? We avoided a recession? Inflation is lower here than anywhere else the world? How is this a weakness? And behind the wheel of a new Tesla, I agree.Which is where we get to that $100,000 a year figure. Because anywhere below that, inflation gets infinitely worse. It's persistent and embarrassing. A ritual humiliation and reminder you are not good enough. That kind of stuff sticks with people. So that's the landscape… how about the candidatesTRUMPTo say that Donald Trump has run his best campaign out of his three tries is an understatement. I'll be honest, I stopped trying to fully understand the logic of Trump sometime in 2016. His combativeness, the issues he centered and erratic behavior is impossible to grade. Why did he just send that tweet? Has he discovered a hidden undercurrent in American society? Or did the KFC bucket he had last night make him farty? In his two previous attempts he often didn't seem to understand which way was up either. He fired two different campaign directors in 2016. He fired one of them in 2020. Both times, election day came with him trailing mightily in the polls. The refrain for his chances became religious. He will pull through… because…But that's not the case this cycle. Susie Wiles, a Florida GOP veteran who watched her party take a purple state and drench it blood red and Chris LaCivita a bare-knuckle student of the last era of a Republican dominance under George W. Bush have run the ship from initial announcement to election day. Tactically, the boat has pointed in the right direction. Trump decapitated well-funded rivals in his own party in Desantis and Haley. He ended the political career of the man who beat him in 2020. Trump has stayed off Twitter and has largely been able to avoid his habit of turning a bad 24 hours into a bad 3 days because of his inability to concede a point. He has mitigated his worst issue, abortion, as well as anyone who appointed the justices that flipped Roe vs. Wade can and accentuated his strengths with the economy and the border. Of course, he is still Trump. He's an a*****e that viserally annoys 40% of the country. He is the loser pissbaby who couldn't wrap his head around losing in 2020 and did a January 6th. And with that I will now leave space on the page so you can add the pet issue or event that you believe best encapsulates why Donald J. Trump should never be president again. If you need more space, please open a new window and hit return until you have enough. He also got shot in the face and survived. Not really sure how that factors into an election. Which brings us to…KAMALA Well… Let's start with…BIDENJoe Biden is unpopular. This is in part because two of his failures played into both sides of the coin that helped him beat Trump. His strength, foreign policy, where he sat on the powerful Senate committee for years was telegenically shattered with the Afghanistan pullout. It is impossible to say you did a good job when people are falling off the landing gear. His weakness, the border, which he gleefully signed executive orders for on day one of his presidency created another telegenic disaster and supercharged an abusive of America's asylum system. It's impossible to say you did a good job when hundreds of Haitians, Chinese and Congolese have found themselves in Texas border towns.Add inflation, add Gaza. But it was his age that ended his career. The one thing he couldn't ultimately shift the blame for.The depression about his horrific debate created a panic for him to drop out, an unthinkable move as late in the campaign. Which brings me to Darth Plagueis the Wise… It was at the RNC when I sat in stadium seating talking with a man I would later be told knows everyone in Washington. We were watching something in a stadium in recessed seating which is what reminds me of the Darth Plagueis scene. I am steadfast and pig headed that Biden won't drop out. He's too stubborn, I said stubbornly. Very calmly… he explains to me that Joe Biden will drop out this Sunday. He would have done it during the RNC but he didn't want to give the most important speech of his career while he had COVID. Within and hour Mark Halperin reported something similar.Sunday morning, I wrote a newsletter about how Biden would never say die. Sunday afternoon, Biden announced he would not seek the presidency. I looked like quite the a*****e. It was Joe-ver. My assumption was that taking over a campaign mid-stream was like trying to fix an F1 car while driving it and trying to win a race. Impossible. And yet…KAMALAThe Democrats hot swapped Biden for Kamala and for a shining glimmer of a moment… it looked like something was brewing. Brat Summer. Coconut Trees. Unburdned by what has been.Sure there were some weird moments… why do so many big named Dems not want to be VP? But the vibes! THE JOY! When Kamala selected Tim Walz over Josh Shapiro, the leftist base of the party rejoiced! She picked a man who is at his best explaining liberal solutions to normies! Not the polished Obama clone just because he is the very popular governor of a swing state. This was bold! This was new! This was interesting! And then… she tacked right… Wait. Why pick the guy that can explain single payer health care with a Cabelas metaphor if you are going to talk about how Israel has a right to a lethal defense force that can eradicate any enemy it identifies? Why not pick the Jew who is +20 in Pennsylvania? At least she found a wedge issue to distance herself from Biden… wait… didn't do that either. Did she parlay the buzz of the summer into a series of interviews with friendly media to reintroduce herself? Nope. Didn't do that either. I took a lot of crap from folks when I said she lost the debate. Not because she didn't rhetorically hold her own, but because she had the most to gain by telling America about herself and she mostly spent her time running down Trump. Cathartic after Biden's disaster? Sure. But not the mission. And she hasn't really done much since then. To her credit, her campaign has not been a flaming disaster like her 2019 run was. But… one thing seems to be the same as that failure… the more America sees of Kamala Harris, the less they like her. Which brings us to…THE RACEDo any of my opinions about the Harris campaign matter? Donald Trump is a one-man Get Out The Vote drive for the Democrats. The specter of him returning to power raised OVER A BILLION dollars since Kamala took over. And so we get to the final decision and it is determined by what you believe… Do you believe polls that say Donald Trump is more popular than he has ever been?Do you believe polls that say Democrats are at Obama-level excitement for Kamala?Do you believe (as our friend Ettingermentum has spelled out) that polls are herding to a stalemate because they are terrified to overestimate Democratic support again and are therefore overestimating Trump support? Do you believe that an administration with a 30/60 right track/wrong track environment can win re-election? That's a lot to think about… much like the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise… Because in that RNC conversation with the Guy Who Knows Everyone… where he told me the exact day Biden would drop out and I didn't believe him... He told me something else. He told me Kamala would be the candidate. And he went further…He told me that Democratic power brokers know she can't win. But they know she's a bad candidate and don't want her around in 2028 when the party can really rebuild. So this a suicide mission. Raise a lot of money. Give her the old college try. Pat her on the head when it's over and never have to be in the Kamala Harris business again. So, do I believe him now?I believe that Donald Trump is inarguably the defining figure for a decade of politics, love him or hate him. I believe he has run a better campaign than both of his opponents. I believe enough independent voters did not have a good time the last four years. I believe Donald Trump, the 45th president will become the 47th president. Donald Trump will be the 4,547th president. I believe the map is too favorable to Republicans to not hand them the Senate. But I don't believe that a shoddy Get Out The Vote operation and reliance on low propensity voters in blue states is enough to win them the house. Republican White House, Republican Senate. Democratic House. Of our four scenarios… PAX MAGA - Republican SweepDemocratic Civil War - GOP White House and Senate, Democratic HouseUnburdened By What Has Been - Democratic White House and House, GOP SenateRoe Sends Her Regards - Democratic SweepI believe Democratic Civil War… is the most likely. The more Trump falls behind in the race, the more he seems inclined to move to the left and blame his electoral problems on conservatives rather than his own image. I go through some of his recent lurches to the left — not for the purpose of saying to stay home but to begin building a parallel movement to fix the GOP beginning today. Voting for Trump over Harris is not mutually exclusive with remaining true to who we are down-ballot and on the issues, even when that conflicts with Trump. Next, I delve deeply into a budding fight in Florida, with almost every elected Florida Republican purposely picking a fight with DeSantis over a tiny development project in a few state parks. The same people who refuse to join any of his fight against the Left, including on ubiquitous abortion and marijuana use, are suddenly feigning outrage over quality of life in the parks. It's built on insidious lies and exposes the fact that the Florida GOP is as bad as it always was. We need to do major surgery on this party no matter what happens in November. Republicans lack effective communicators who can use a wealth of data, narratives, and real-life stories showing how harmful the Biden and Harris policies have been to Americans. I begin today by showing how pathetic the Republican Party is. At a time when Democrats are warning, from their perspective, that Republicans might turn America into Florida, we can't even get the Florida GOP to support DeSantis on critical issues. Next, I deliver a blitz of data and information on teenage gangsters being released into the country and how easy it would be to message this issue during a budget fight. I also go through the state of the economy to prove how venture socialism has delivered crushing stagflation to nearly everyone but Democrat donors from the seven largest corporations. I also note how Republicans can easily use the new trend of late-term abortions and use of dangerous abortion pills to turn the tide on the issue. We have never had more facts on our side. What we lack is a movement with conviction and a vision. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
AP correspondent Lisa Dwyer reports that Senator Rick Scott has handily won Florida's Republican primary.
AP correspondent Julie Walker reports Senator Rick Scott wins his Florida GOP primary as he seeks a second term.
The burgeoning political landscape is set to welcome its newest participant: Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump. The Florida Republican Party freshly stamped his ticket onto the political stage on Wednesday, at the age of 18, deeming him a suitable candidate for being one of the state's at-large delegates at the forthcoming Republican National Convention. Barron, teetering on the edge of his high school graduation, is walking in the footsteps of his elder half-siblings, Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany. Rallying together under the banner of Republican politics, these offspring of the Trump dynasty continue the legacy of their family in all its political shades. Don Jr., Eric, and Tiffany too will be part of the 41 delegates Petering from Florida for the convention. Gleaned information from sources within a Trump campaign official suggests that Barron's budding interest in the political process was decisive in his inclusion in the delegation. Chairman of the Florida GOP, Evan Power, buoyed with enthusiasm for the advent of a 'great convention in Milwaukee', reiterated the state party's commitment to laying the groundwork for future success in Florida. Chairman Power struck a confident note when he promised a decisive victory for the party in the November elections, stating unequivocally 'we are going to win and we will win big.' Barron's exposure to the public eye heightened recently during his father's closely scrutinized legal proceedings in New York, associated with alleged hush-money. In a heartfelt plea, Trump's legal team appealed to Judge Juan Merchan, emphasizing their client's earnest desire to be granted a day off to partake in Barron's graduation ceremony. Prioritizing family values, Judge Merchan granted consent for Trump to attend the key milestone in his youngest son's journey. Barron's coming of age ceremony, scheduled for Friday, May 17, hence saw the presence of the leading GOP figure. In contrast to this familial moment, the presumptive nominee faces a rigorous schedule in a Manhattan courtroom four days a week, juggling legal challenges with his White House aspirations. Trump's myriad of legal complexities, encompassing both civil and criminal aspects, extend beyond his own person. They have indeed cast their shadow on his children, pulling them into the whirlpool of public scrutiny and judicial examination. In a significant trial last year over alleged civil business fraud in New York, all of three - Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka - found themselves on the stand. The Democratic Attorney General of New York was seeking punishment for Trump and his eponymous organization, contending that he maliciously overexaggerated his net worth and financial statements. The Trump Organization, a legacy passed onto Trump by his father, remains a stalwart pillar of the family legacy. Nevertheless, its operations have seen a permutation, transitioning to Don Jr. and Eric after their sister Ivanka opted to step down from her leadership role. Ivanka sought a change of scene and embraced a different set of responsibilities when she decided to carry her industry leadership skills over to a political environment, joining her father in the White House as an advisor. The culmination of Trump's political agenda, the RNC National Convention, is marked in the calendar to span from July 15-18. This pivotal event promises to ignite political discussions, bearing strong influence on the trajectory of Republican conservative politics and the fate of the party in the ensuing election. This convention will unfold in Milwaukee, offering delegates and attendees an immersive experience in the throbbing heart of Republican thought and strategy. Barron's inclusion as a delegate enriches the mix of participants with a youthful perspective. His participation heralds a promising future for the party, signaling that the next generation is ready to carry the mantle of conservative principles forward. Evan Power and the entire Florida GOP are evidently geared up for the convention, fostered with hopes of a 'great convention'. The heightened interest in the political process from members of the younger generation, represented by Barron and his siblings, evidently reflects positively on the future image of the party. The role of family in the continuation of conservative ideas is indisputable. As seen from the Trump family's active involvement, their commitment to the pillars of virtuous governance, economic prosperity, and American values offers the party a stronger platform from which to reach and influence voters. While the political landscape is fraught with uncertainty, one thing remains clear: the commitment to conservative ideas, as displayed by the Trump family and the Florida GOP, is unwavering. As the Republican National Convention approaches, there is little doubt that the event will provide an absorbing juncture in the journey towards the November elections. Florida's chapter of the Republican Party rallied together at its annual assembly last Friday, culminating in an endorsement for former President Donald Trump as their candidate of choice in the 2024 elections. This action can be seen as an echo of the growing support for Trump among Republicans who are looking forward to the impending 2024 primary. State party Chairman Evan Power, assessing the outcome of the caucuses and the primary in Iowa and New Hampshire, urged Republicans to unite, with the aim of thwarting President Joe Biden, whom Power perceives as leading a faltering administration. After thorough evaluation of the preliminary political scenarios in both Iowa and New Hampshire, Power opines that the Republican party's most likely nominee is Donald Trump. Several noteworthy figures, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Senator Marco Rubio, and Senator Rick Scott, have intervened with their individual entreaties to consolidate the support behind Trump. Their call for unity came in January. The heads of the Republican Party in Duval County, led by Chairman and Representative Dean Black, took the pivotal action of filing an endorsement for Trump. Dean Black declared that the Florida GOP has overcome the internal competition of primaries and is now presenting a consolidated front with Donald Trump as its supported candidate. In a clear critique of the current administration, Black states that the citizens of Florida cannot endure the purported uncertainty and ineffective governance under President Biden for another four years. Black made a stern call to halt what he perceives as the national downward spiral. This, he believes, necessitates the return of a powerful leader at the helm of the nation. Black further emphasized the need for a firm leader with a strong 'America First' approach, and in his view, that leader is unquestionably former President Trump. Trump celebrated a substantial win in the Iowa caucuses, championing with about 51% of votes, a clear dominating lead of nearly 30 percentage points. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, after a surprising second-place finish in the caucus that was higher than initially expected, withdrew his candidacy. DeSantis then officially endorsed Trump in his dropout speech. Notably, receiving about 21% of the vote was a significant accomplishment that further emphasized the preferences of Republican voters. DeSantis extended support towards Trump because, in his words, the party cannot revert to the politics of the old Republican guard. DeSantis publicly conveyed his endorsement to an eager public, emphasizing the need for a strong leader within the Republican Party. Trump held a gathering in New Hampshire only a few hours after DeSantis's decision to step down. There, the former president publicly acknowledged the Florida governor's contributions and extended warm congratulations, describing him as a 'terrific person'. Following the Florida Governor's withdrawal, Evan Power, the newly appointed chairman, corroborated the prevalent sentiment within the Republican party leadership by endorsing Donald Trump. Trump indeed seems to be consolidating his power base, drawing in endorsements from eminent figures not just in Florida, but potentially across the nation. Trump has also been able to gain the support of other high-ranking Republican figures of Florida. This includes Florida Cabinet members like Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, Attorney General Ashley Moody and Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, prominent figures in Florida's political scene. Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, known for his conservative stands, has also announced his endorsement for Trump. Renner, an influential figure from Palm Coast, has been a longtime member of the Republican party and his backing adds to Trump's growing list of supporters. Adding to the momentum, Kathleen Passidomo, the current President of Florida Senate and a Republican from Naples, has also announced her support for Trump's candidacy. Passidomo's endorsement is quite significant, reflecting the broad array of support Trump has garnered within the party. Florida House Speaker-Designate, Daniel Perez, an emerging Republican leader from Miami, is another prominent figure to publicly endorse Trump. Perez's endorsement showcases the intrigue of younger Republicans in aligning with Trump's vision for America's future. Another valuable endorsement comes from the Florida Senate President-Designate Ben Albritton, a representative from Bartow. Albritton's public endorsement of Trump underscores the common sentiment in Florida's Republican leadership seeking a return to traditional conservative governing principles. RELATED:Nikki Haley Calls Nevada ‘A Scam' and Claims ‘Trump Rigged It' In essence, Florida's Republican Party seems to be aligning behind Trump as the potential Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election. Widespread endorsement from influential figures across Florida's Republican sphere further underscores Trump's significant stand within the party. This is particularly reflective of the Party's aim to push against the Biden administration in the bid to restore traditional conservative governance. On today's grand finale of the year, we are joined by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who discusses how he plans to drain the swamp. He plans to use his model for recruiting competent conservatives into government in Florida and to be ready on day one with several thousand resumes to send to the Senate. He also discussed how to drain the GOP establishment swamp by leading on issues and shaming them into following. DeSantis reminds us that when he took over as governor, the Florida GOP had the same establishment donor mindset we see at the national level. He calls for an overhaul of the primary process in favor of more conventions and caucuses so we can get more grassroots-minded candidates to win down the ballot. Finally, we discuss state-based immigration enforcement, his support for an immigration cool-off period on mass legal immigration, and the need to limit the authority of the FBI and focus the agency on select national and international issues of importance. Later on, I explain why the establishment fears DeSantis a lot more than Trump and why DeSantis is the only option to actually change the party as it relates to policy outcomes. Finally, I focus on the fake conservative Supreme Court and how it screwed us on four issues within one week. Plus, my end-of-year message and call to action. Learn more about your ad choices. SERIES 2 EPISODE 83: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: I'd like to apologize for what MSNBC has become. Again. I'd like to apologize AGAIN for what MSNBC has become. They fired Mehdi Hasan yesterday. He hosted one hour a week on Sunday nights and it might have been the best hour on the network because while I don't know that I agreed with even MOST of what he said, he wasn't doctrinaire and he didn't simply repeat what Maddow says and he didn't pretend to be a moderate because being a Trump propagandist didn't work out for him like Scarborough does and he didn't struggle to read a prompter full of Democratic Party talking points like Joy Reid does and to my knowledge he never fell asleep on the air like Andrea Mitchell does nor cause the viewer to fall asleep like Hayes and O'Donnell do. I do NOT know for certain why they fired him, I do NOT know if he said something about the Middle East they did not like, I do not know if the timing was coincidental. Let's put it this way: they either fired him for his Middle East opinions DURING conflict in the Middle East OR they fired him for something else DURING conflict in the Middle East and thus made themselves look guilty of firing him for his Middle East opinions anyway. Just as important as the continuing asinine and ignorant conduct of the management of MSNBC and NBC and NBC News is the issue of personal integrity of the people at what is god help us the closest thing to a liberal news network in this country. MORE important than the FIRING of Mehdi Hasan, is the response from MSNBC's stars about the firing of Mehdi Hasan. Want to read what Maddow and O'Donnell and Hayes and Wagner and Reid and everybody else said about this: Wanna read it again? The POINT of HAVING the money IS that you SHOULD say "F YOU" to somebody at least once in your life. Not like Musk did; saying it to people who for some reason don't want their ads next to antisemitic and Pizzagate posts. But in DEFENSE of something. FOR something. If there are three people at NBC – hell, three people in NEWS – three people in TELEVISION – who can at least get away with a loud pointed protest – hell, can get away with saying “If Mehdi Hasan goes or if Tiffany Cross goes or if we keep diluting our product down to badly rewritten Democratic Party press releases, we're on strike” – if there are THREE people in media – besides like Taylor Swift - who can say “We are standing on our principles” and will LIVE TO TELL ABOUT IT, it's Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell. Of course – you've gotta HAVE principles. ALSO the Judge Engoron Trump gag order is back in place and Trump is still endangering the judge, his wife, and now his son. And Politico says the editorial that provoked Trump to revive the self-own "I will kill ObamaCare" not only revivified the ISSUE; it revivified Biden's campaign. Emails went out within hours. Nancy Pelosi got on a press call Tuesday. Biden hit Trump on video Wednesday. Commercials are already running on the state level. And then the Wall Street Journal ran another editorial on ObamaCare… attacking… TRUMP. For his failure to repeal AND his failed response to their first editorial. Whereupon Trump replied by attacking… the Wall Street Journal by calling the paper quote “Globalist” and the Editorial Page a “mess.” The Editorial Page whose editorial about ObamaCare got him so excited that he again vowed to replace ObamaCare and thus revitalized the Biden campaign and I haven't fully diagrammed this bizarre confluence of events but I think the gist of it is: if Biden is re-elected we can thank… The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board?
