Deputies responded to a wellness check where a man reported his son, armed with a rifle, was inside a home that had been shot at from within. SWAT and hostage negotiators were called in when contact couldn't be made. The suspect fired rounds at deputies and started a fire inside the house. SWAT members eventually removed him from the burning house. The man faces charges including criminal damage to property and reckless conduct. His identity was not disclosed by authorities. STORY 2: Sixes Elementary Student Reunites With Deployed Dad At Sixes Elementary School, a heartwarming surprise unfolded during lunch as fourth grader Caroline Janssen received an unexpected visit from her father, Master Sgt. Brian Janssen. Brian, who had been deployed overseas for six months, wasn't expected home until the next day. Students joyously cheered and thanked him for his service as Caroline and her dad shared a touching reunion. The heartwarming moment was celebrated by the school community, highlighting the bond between families and the sacrifices made by those in military service. STORY 3: Marty Ferrell Sworn in as Canton's New Police Chief Marty Ferrell was sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Canton Police Department on March 27, officiated by Canton Mayor Bill Grant. With 33 years of experience, including serving as police chief in Marietta, Ferrell expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Canton. He highlighted his commitment to learning from and contributing to the Canton community and police force. Passed along party lines, the bill prohibits sex education before sixth grade, mandates parental notification of library book checkouts, and enforces bathroom use based on birth certificate gender. Additionally, it bars transgender males from girls' sports. Republicans argue it safeguards children and empowers parents, while Democrats criticize the bill's amalgamation of contentious measures, labeling it a "Frankenstein bill." Concerns arise over its potential negative impact on LGBTQ students and its procedural approach. The bill requires further review by the House before final passage. STORY 5: Georgia Power and PSC Reach Agreement on Request for More Generating Capacity Georgia Power and state energy regulators have reached an agreement to boost the utility's electrical generating capacity, including constructing three new gas combustion turbines at Plant Yates near Newnan. According to Georgia Power's CFO, the revenue generated by this new capacity will outweigh the costs, resulting in savings of $2.89 per month for residential customers from 2026 to 2028. The agreement aims to maintain reliability, support economic development, and reduce rates for all customers. Georgia Power plans to add 2,600 megawatts of power to meet growing demand, utilizing gas turbines, power purchasing agreements, and expanding battery energy storage and distributed energy resources. However, the Southern Environmental Law Center opposes the agreement, criticizing it as favoring fossil fuels and potentially increasing energy bills, urging consideration of renewable options. The Public Service Commission is set to vote on the agreement on April 16. Commercial: INGLES 1 STORY 6: GOP Candidates for Georgia's 11th Congressional District Make Their Case to Voters Republican candidates for Georgia's 11th Congressional District, including incumbent U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, Lori Pesta, and Mike Pons, discussed their goals at a forum in Canton. Hosted by Republican organizations, they'll compete in the primary to face Democratic candidates in November. Loudermilk emphasized addressing the "weaponization of government," aiming for a free and safe nation. Pesta stressed an "America First" agenda, focusing on veterans' care. Pons highlighted concerns about Congress's operation, advocating for fiscal responsibility and preserving American freedoms. All candidates shared a commitment to restoring the American dream. STORY 7: What to Do When You See a Snake As spring arrives, Georgia's state herpetologist, Daniel Sollenberger, receives numerous inquiries about snakes. Most are harmless, but concerns often revolve around identifying venomous species and what actions to take. Sollenberger advises caution and recommends giving snakes space rather than attempting to handle them. Resources like the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website help identify snakes. While most species are nonvenomous and protected by law, venomous ones should be left alone. Sollenberger urges people to support wildlife conservation efforts and offers tips for preventing snake encounters near homes. We'll have closing comments after this.    COMMERCIAL: HENRY CO SHERIFFS – ATL HEALTH FAIR   SIGN OFF –   Thanks again for listening to today's Cherokee Tribune Ledger podcast. . According to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry. In 2020, approximately 351 out of 1,008 construction fatalities were due to fatal falls to a lower level, which accounts for about a third of all on-the-job deaths in the construction industry. These deaths cause significant problems for workers, their families, and the construction companies they work for. However, these deaths are preventable; therefore, what equipment can be adopted to safeguard workers from falls? On today's episode of the Conversations from the Edge podcast, host Michelle Dawn Mooney speaks with Greg Crumpton, the Vice President of Service Logic, Nathan Sollenberger and Ryan Kerfien, Co-Creators of the SafTDek product, about the role of SafTDek in optimizing safety for construction workers. “The SafTDek Condenser Railing system was designed to prevent falls at heights. This product becomes useful when workers need to climb to reach a certain height to do their jobs. The financial implications of falls are quite significant, with each fall costing the company about $100,000. If there is a fatality, it quickly exceeds a million. This safety system is an excellent opportunity for people on-site to conduct pre-safety audits to ensure maximum protection against falls,” explained Sollenberger. “Service Logic is interested in the SafTDek Condenser Railing system because it is essential to provide better safety platforms for our thousands of employees. Many clients always want an assurance that contractors working on their job are being safe. This is to avoid litigation issues. Therefore, SafTDek is a great tool to build a great relationship between contractors and their clients,” noted Crumpton. “Workers do not have to worry about risks when they have the right safety tool such as the SafTDek Condenser Railing system. Coming up with something that makes other people safer is something that makes me proud. About 320,000 replacement fan motors are sold every year in the U.S., and this is just on-demand service replacement jobs. We should be up on these units quarterly doing fan inspection- this is lots of trips to the top of an air-cooled condenser. When you think about that across various companies, the need for SafTDek as a safety tool becomes paramount,” added Kerfien. Nathan Sollenberger is a Co-Creator of the SafTDek product. He has worked as a project engineer with Hoffman & Hoffman, Inc. and has worked in the industry since 2014. Ryan Kerfien is a Co-Creator of the SafTDek product. He received a B.S. in Technology Education from the State University of New York at Oswego and an M.BA. in Business Administration and Management from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte Belk College of Business. Greg Crumpton is Vice President of Service Logic. He attended Clayton State College and studied business; he attended Georgia Tech University and studied finance and accounting, and AMA courses on business fundamentals. Crumpton has been with Service Logic for over 8 years.

Have you ever caught yourself saying, "A part of me wants to start getting up early and meditating and a part of wants to keep sleeping." Or, "A part of me wants to go the part on Friday night, but a part of me wants to curl up in bed with a bowl of ice cream and binge out for hours on Netflix." Well, you aren't crazy-these are 'your parts.'  Parts work otherwise known as Internal Family Systems (a model of therapy developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz) is one of the most incredible healing modalities that I have ever seen truly help people transform their lives.   Today's guest, Tammy Sollenberger is a certified IFS therapist and author of "The One Inside" a book that helps you to get to know your own parts on a deeper more personal level. In this episode, Tammy helps us understand our parts, why and how they developed and how they show up in our lives to help us.  While sometimes they seem really annoying and even disturbring (like our over-drinking parts, codependent parts, inner critic parts, self doubt parts, good girl parts)-they really play an integral role in our lives.  Parts often lurk in the background and until we can get curious about and even learn to love them for the role they play, it will feel like a never ending battle.   We are so accustomed to fixing, changing, blaming, shaming and analyzing ourselves to death.  Quite frankly, it's exhausting!  When we learn to meet our parts with a soft curiosity and even compassion-it is truly the missing piece! Listen to learn: What IFS or Parts work is What makes it different than other therapy modalities Why parts develop What parts roles are The different types of parts How you can work with your parts to help them soften and create what it is that you crave in your life "We end up in marriages and relationships and wonder, "Why aren't our needs ever being met, why don't I have any feelings about this or that? And why do my relationships suck?"  Well, it could be there are parts of you that have learned this is how you have to be in relationships in order to be loved." ~Tammy Sollenberger "Our parts can be exhausting, because they work endlessly to ensure that we never feel rejected abandoned or alone." ~Tammy Sollenberger "What I also love so much about IFS is that it provides you a different lens to view the world and other people.   When you start to see other people's parts you start to understand Oh, he's not actually acting that way because he's a legit jerk, We start to understand Oh, there's a part showing up here." ~Krista Resnick  Krista Resnick | Instagram |Facebook Tammy Sollenberger | The One Inside Book | Instagram | The One Inside Podcast

It may have been the biggest investigative scoop of this year's election. This week, The Daily Beast reported that Herschel Walker, the Republican candidate for the US Senate in Georgia and a staunch opponent of abortion rights, paid for a girlfriend's abortion in 2009 - sighting documents that included a receipt from the abortion clinic, an image of a seven hundred dollar check from Walker, and a "Get Well" card signed by the former football star. Walker immediately denied the story. And insisted that he had no idea who the accuser was. But then The Daily Beast followed up with an equally astonishing story, that the woman was actually the mother of one of his children. What prompted the woman, still anonymous, to come forward now? And what impact will this have on one of the most important Senate races in the country? We talk to The Daily Beast reporter who broke the story, Roger Sollenberger, and Yahoo News' own Jon Ward. Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker promised Monday night that he would file a lawsuit this morning against The Daily Beast, after the website's Roger Sollenberger reported that Walker paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion in 2009. The woman, who was not identified, provided Sollenberger with a receipt for the procedure, a get-well card signed by Walker and an image of a personal check signed by Walker for $700. The Beast reported also that it corroborated the woman's claims with a close friend who took care of her after the procedure. And campaign guru Steve Shepard shifted POLITICO Election Forecast ratings for 23 House and governor races in a column sent to Campaign Pro subscribers Monday night. Most importantly, Tammy is a mom who brings her work home—all of the skills, insights, and practices she uses to help other parents live more present and connect lives are the same ones she uses at home with her family. Audra and I loved digging into all the wisdom Tammy has around parenthood, stress, healing emotional wounds, and cultivating more compassion, curiosity, and playfulness in our lives. Without further ado, here is the insightful, wise, and wonderful Tammy Sollenberger.

Has something like this every happened to you?   You find yourself standing at your pantry, having just eaten a half-bag of Oreos--and you can't really remember eating them.  And then the guilt comes in, because of course you "shouldn't" have eaten those.  And that critical voice starts in with "How could you do that?  You're going to gain weight.  Why can't you control yourself?  What's wrong with you?  You should know better!" And then you toss the Oreos in the trash--because they're just plain evil--and vow to never bring them into the house again. This is a cycle that happens sooooo often.  We eat something we "shouldn't," and then we beat ourselves up for it.  And we punish ourselves by taking the enjoyable food away.   But instead of berating ourselves.... What if we just got curious about what was happening? What if we were genuinely interested in why we ate what we ate?  What if we really wondered about what led us to those Oreos?  And what if we had some compassion for the parts of us that felt the need to eat them?   Being curious about why we do what we do is one of the hallmarks of Internal Family Systems, or IFS.  Instead of berating ourselves about what we've thought, felt, or done, we get curious about it.  Why did I say that?  Why do I feel this way?  Why did I do that?   Try this little exercise and see if you notice the difference.  Think back to a time where you ate something you "shouldn't have."  Think about how you responded to that.  Were you angry at yourself?  Did you come down really hard on yourself?  Did you vow to change your behavior?  If you did, notice how that makes you feel.  Really focus on the bodily sensations that come up for you.  I'm guessing you're feeling pretty lousy.  Tense.  Guilty.  Ashamed. But picture that scenario again and imagine just being curious about why you ate that "forbidden food."  Imagine thinking, "I wonder why I did that?"  Or "Hmmmm....I really want to understand what brought me to that food."   Notice how different that feels.  I'm guessing far less guilt-ridden (if there's any guilt at all) and far less angry with yourself.  Check in to see how different your body feels.  Probably much more relaxed.  Calm.   Approaching our eating with curiosity allows us to understand--and not judge--the parts of us that contribute to our eating patterns.  This is what we're talking about on this week's podcast episode. I chat with Tammy Sollenberger, an IFS therapist and author of "The One Inside:  Thirty Days to Your Authentic Self," about: How compassionate and comforting it feels to approach our eating patterns from an IFS standpoint  Getting to know the parts that contribute to our eating habits Allowing parts that use food for comfort to still "have a seat at the table" How to connect to your authentic, compassionate self With lots of laughter (probably a little too much!), Tammy and I explore all of these concepts and discuss how our own parts relate to food.   Find Tammy on her website, and grab her book here! Cultivate Calm, Creativity and Clarity by Connecting to the Parts Inside with Certified IFS Therapist, author, mother and the host of the One Inside Podcast, Tammy Sollenberger. I came across Tammy's information on Instagram and based on her language referring to parts of herself relating to her son and life, I knew I needed to have a conversation with her about her experience and transformations through IFS.  During this episode we explore IFS through conversation, internal reflection and Tammy guiding me inside as I connects with a part and its story aka limiting belief around money! Topics we cover in this episode: How we can speak to and for our parts - All parts have a good intention, we can unwind when we can hear their stories. Questions to ask parts to unblend from them. Understanding when parts take over our body and actions/reactions by noticing the ques - for example: cussing is a que for Tammy that she is acting from a teenage part. Connecting to the parts that have limiting beliefs and opening up the conversation for exploration and so much more!   It is my hope that by listening to this episode you cultivate some calm, creativity, clarity and curiosity to connecting to the parts inside of your system. Thank you so much for listening in today for being open to the curiosity of what healing might look like for you. Presidential czars, as they define them, are given policy making authority by the president, but are not confirmed by the Senate. Thus, they operate with little accountability to the legislative branch. Their existence, which increased in numbers and importance over the twentieth century, raises serious questions about their appropriateness and constitutionality.
