Master nutrition psychology for lifters, building a strong mindset for muscle and meals, and achieving peak performance. Unlock the mental game of nutrition and transform your lifting journey. This episode delves into the critical role of Nutrition Psychology for Lifters, going beyond basic dietary recommendations. We welcome Marcus Kain of Strong Not Starving to explore the mindset shift needed to navigate emotional eating, build resilience, and achieve lasting peace with food. Discover practical strategies to master your mindset, enhance distress tolerance, and cultivate a healthy relationship with nutrition. The Foundation of Nutrition Psychology for Lifters: Beyond the Plate Nutrition Psychology for Lifters goes beyond the simple mechanics of calories and macronutrients; it delves into the complex interplay between the mind, emotions, and food choices. Marcus Caine of Strong Not Starving joins us to shed light on how this field addresses the deeper challenges individuals face with food, moving beyond basic dietary recommendations. A key concept is the "Horse & Rider" metaphor, which illustrates the dynamic between the subconscious and conscious mind. Understanding this dynamic is crucial for lifters, as nutrition decisions are often driven by emotional factors more so than training decisions, leading to lower compliance rates. A critical aspect of Nutrition Psychology for Lifters is recognizing and eliminating unlikely solutions. This involves moving away from unsustainable dietary restrictions and focusing on building essential skills and long-term habits. It's about acknowledging that lasting change isn't about quick fixes but about cultivating a healthy relationship with food. This approach emphasizes that true mastery in nutrition isn't about the absence of difficult feelings but rather about developing the ability to navigate those feelings effectively. Numbing or distracting from emotions, such as through unhealthy food choices, is not a viable long-term strategy. Navigating Emotional Eating and Building Resilience Through Nutrition Psychology for Lifters Advanced emotional regulation is a cornerstone of Nutrition Psychology for Lifters. It involves moving beyond simply numbing or distracting oneself from difficult feelings and instead learning to navigate discomfort without resorting to unhealthy eating patterns. Understanding your "Window of Tolerance" for discomfort is crucial in this process. This awareness helps lifters recognize when food is being used as an emotional escape. Celebratory situations present unique challenges, and Nutrition Psychology for Lifters encourages individuals to be mindful of the diminishing returns of enjoyable food experiences. It's about learning to enjoy moments without losing sight of long-term goals and avoiding the trap of getting swept up in the moment to the point of discomfort. Building distress tolerance is essential for developing resilience in Nutrition Psychology for Lifters. This involves consistent practice and repetition to build the ability to handle discomfort and emotional triggers effectively. It's about finding that balance of letting go and enjoying things while also being aware of when it's time to call it a day. The ability to navigate that point of "I've had enough" without feeling deprived is a skill that takes time to develop, but it's crucial for achieving lasting freedom and trust in your nutritional choices. Practical Strategies and Habit Formation in Nutrition Psychology for Lifters Building trust in oneself through practice is fundamental in Nutrition Psychology for Lifters. This trust comes from consistent action and self-observation, demonstrating the ability to follow through on commitments. Developing novice skills for mindful eating is a vital first step, which includes practicing non-judgmental awareness of thoughts and feelings and removing "good" and "bad" labels from food. Learning to notice and name feelings is also a crucial skill. This involves identifying and acknowledging emotions in real-time and recognizing when distress begins to arise. Nutrition Psychology for Lifters provides practical tools to help individuals learn to tolerate discomfort, avoid emotional spirals, and practice separating emotions from identity. It's about avoiding catastrophizing, urgent decision-making, and cultivating self-compassion. By focusing on these practical strategies and habit formation, lifters can develop a sustainable and healthy relationship with food, ultimately supporting their fitness goals and overall well-being. When Caeleigh Kean posted on her social media about a recent success, the start of the post caught our eye. Equiteam's Liz Daniels chats to Caeleigh Kean about winning a sash, being crowned champions, and why she feels that good things don't happen to people like her. Like many people, Caeleigh wasn't in a position to buy a ready-made horse, so instead she invested in a nice youngster to produce herself. Six years later and after a lot of blood, sweat, tears, logistical struggles, and battles with her health, Caeleigh is now loving every moment she spends with the horse of her dreams.

Today's podcast with Kate Osmaston blew our brains (no pun intended), as we discover more about Brainworking Recursive Therapy. Kate became a Brain Working Recursive Therapy Advanced Practitioner after discovering the permanent life-changing benefits of it for herself. In line with current ground-breaking thinking about neuroscience, Kate brilliantly explains how BWRT works at a subconscious level and can be used for lots of different life challenges, both on and off the horse. Unlike other therapies and methods, this technique doesn't require you to re-live negative experiences or manage your feelings in the moment, instead it focuses on reworking brain patterns to replace unhelpful and destructive thoughts and feelings with the positive ones you would like to have. This is an episode not to be missed. You can contact Kate here https://www.bwrt-today.com or follow her on Facebook and Instagram

Just how does someone go from doing their first BE90 to competing at 3* in just two years? George Bartlett did! EquiTeam's Liz Daniels chats to event rider George about his incredible journey and the pinnacle of his career so far – an impressive third place in George's first 3*L at Blair International Horse Trials. Based at Caunton Manor Stud with Victoria Wright and her team, George first got spotted on the hunting field by Mrs Wright who invited him to the yard to do some hacking out. George continued to work part time at the yard whilst at university and on completing his degree he was offered a full time position and thought ‘Why not?!' Incredibly grounded and grateful for the opportunities, George attributes his success to Victoria and the team around him who have believed in him from the start. In this podcast George shares his journey and which controversial guests he would have at his dinner party!
There has been so much going on in EquiTeam over the last few months that Liz Daniels and Louise Gillings thought that a catch up podcast was in order! The duo discuss all things EquiTeam including some highlights from the EquiTeam Connected group, as well as chatting about some of the content including the value of time blog, the Alan Davies Grooming and Turnout Series, as well as the new lunging series. And we can't mention the content without chatting about superb workouts and plans from Lauren from Equestrian Fitness Scotland which is included weekly in the EquiTeam Connected membership.
When our recent Equiteam blog about the value of time sparked an incredible conversation within our EquiTeam Connected Facebook group, we knew that we needed to continue the conversation and open it up to the wider equestrian community. Time is, without doubt, our most precious commodity and once it's gone, it's gone. In this episode we chat about what we can achieve when we allow ourselves and our horses more time, what we can learn and how time allows us to make memories with friends and family and our horses and how to appreciate what's important in life. Scroll less, say no more often, make memories and remember that work can (sometimes) wait!
Do you find riding in open spaces at speed a bit nerve racking? Or maybe you just want to learn to gallop your horse properly? You are most definitely not alone. After a post in our Facebook group EquiTeam Connected raised this issue, Liz and Lou sat down to discuss how to safely, and confidently ride at speed. This episode covers everything from choosing the right time, place and people to go with, how your position is super important for you and your horse, how to choose the best ground and cope with variations in terrain and how to manage those nerves and safely build your confidence. Equiteam member Gillian Birrell chats about the ups and downs of her journey with her horse Ziggy and why she thinks it is important to share that it's not always full of smiles and achievements. Returning to riding after a big break, Gillian found herself teamed with a horse who has tested her resilience and confidence on multiple occasions. After 10 falls in almost as many months, Gillian knew it was decision time – did she try and learn to work as a team – or was it time to part company for good? Gillian shares what tools she has found, and why asking for help and surrounding yourself with positive support has been the is the most valuable part of her journey. A real honest account of an on-going journey, with a twist of Oompa Loompa and a splash of Johnny Depp. Read Gillian's blog here:https://www.equiteam.co.uk/its-not-always-been-smiles-and-achievements/

When it comes to riding, more often than not the focus is placed on the horse - what are they doing, how are they feeling, what can we improve with them, etc. But we all know that the horse is only 50% of the equation - the other 50%? You: the rider. So why does it always feel like focusing on yourself, especially out of the saddle, is somehow selfish or irrelevant in terms of your time and effort? In the second of this two-part podcast, host Caroline Culbertson continues her conversation with Dr. Paul and Justin Haefner of Riding Far LLC to discuss the human part of the equation. Specifically, how being self-actualized and self-regulating can have a wildly positive influence on how our horses respond to us (and their environment) both on the ground and while being ridden. During this continued conversation, Caroline, Dr. Paul, and Justin also discuss: Why investing in yourself as a self actualized person is also an investment in your riding. The mix of patience and process in the horse/rider relationship. How truly powerful it can be when a trainer claims both their place and their competence in the larger industry. The way in which disintegration can exacerbate moments of fear or tension in the saddle, and how to overcome it. The Polyvagal Theory (we're getting very technical and we love it!) and how it applies to riding. The difference between a “brilliant” horse and a horse that just doesn't self regulate very well. How a horse's job is more than what it does in the ring, and why that's important to keep in mind. Why every rider has a responsibility to be aware of their ability (and their horse's ability!) to self regulate in a given situation.

In order to use your legs correctly they must be in the correct position and it, therefore, follows that your stirrups must be the correct length. If you have a balanced seat with your legs in the correct alignment, you will be able to give your horse more effective and more refined aids. This will enable your horse to stay in front of your leg as well as improve his responsiveness to both your legs and your seat. So, in this podcast episode, we're going to cover what is a correct dressage leg, what happens when your stirrups are too long or too short, how to establish the correct stirrup length, and how to lengthen your leg.(Please note: This is an updated and expanded version of our previous 'How Long Should Your Stirrups Be?' episode)-------------If you would rather read the article on our blog, click here - https://howtodressage.com/for-the-rider/how-long-should-your-stirrups-be/To take our Big Dressage Quiz, click here - https://howtodressage.com/big-dressage-quiz/To view our equestrian books and training diaries on Amazon, click here - https://amzn.to/2SFL633 To check out The Complete Online Dressage Course, click here - https://course.howtodressage.comIf you would like to follow our Facebook Page, click here - https://www.facebook.com/HowToDressage/FREE DOWNLOAD: 7 Simple Steps to Boost Your Dressage Scoreshttps://howtodressage.com/7-simple-steps/-------------ADVERTISEMENTSStrongTeams.com PodcastLearn how today's top leaders build strong teams and culture. Horses are powerful animals but there is a limit to how much weight they can carry on their backs. Despite extensive studies, this is still a heated debate and different arguments are put forth. Fact is, horses were not meant to carry people on their backs so we need to prepare and train them for this task. Burdening them with excessive weight for a long time can lead to damage of their tendons, bones and joints. What is too much weight and how can be help our horses carry us? These are some of the topics discussed in today's podcast episode. Show Notes: https://equestrianadventuresses.com/2022/12/21/horse-podcast-ep-288-how-much-weight-can-my-horse-carry/

We had so much fun doing the Failed State Jukebox a few weeks ago that we thought we'd try it again. Thanks to my (Lenny's) terrific administrative skills, J.G. Michael wasn't on the call. But don't worry, he'll be back next week! With author and journalist Mark Jacobson as our guide, we prevailed through 90 minutes of cult music, including: TaliasVan & the Bright & Morning Star Band: Let's Be Lovers (live) Jeremy Spencer: Can You Hear The Song Charles Manson: Cease to Exist The Beach Boys: Never Learn Not to Love Boney M: Rivers of Babylon The Melodians: Rivers of Babylon David Koresh: Rivers of Babylon Passion: Don't Stop Mobb Deep: Shook Ones, Pt. 2 Peoples Temple Choir: He's Able L. Ron Hubbard: Alien Visitors Attack Jim Kweskin Jug Band: Dark as a Dungeon But that's not all! Listen to the end, because Philadelphia's own Shy Boyz come on to discuss their cult covers album, American Idolz. They also share their rendition of "Energy Master," originally recorded by Gabriel of Urantia. Be sure to check out the commercial for American Idolz here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K75-F8Tqq1o --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/failedstateupdate/message

#009 - More than 14 years ago, Dani Conway (Nutrition the Natural Way) was 65 pounds overweight, working long hours at a full-time corporate job, and juggling various yo-yo diets. As she attempted to find a resolution for ongoing gut and digestive issues, doctors reported her bloodwork to be normal, and yet she continued to be plagued with crazy symptoms that no one seemed to have answers for. After she was unexpectedly laid off by her job (while also in the middle of planning a wedding), Dani immediately began pursuing holistic wellness certifications. Today, she runs a successful practice where she helps equestrians curb the junk food cravings, heal their bodies, and discover which foods will properly fuel their bodies. Dani talks about: The importance of scheduling meal prepping and grocery shopping into your routineWhy you should make a habit of balancing different kinds of snacks togetherCommon misconceptions people have about snacking and mealsHow to determine what's right for YOU and your metabolismWhen we neglect our bodies, we can't perform at an optimal rate - in business OR when riding. Loved speaking with Jamie Lau, founder of Haybales & Barbells in this episode of the Whole Horse Podcast! During these challenging times, Jamie has pivoted, followed her heart and launched her company, sharing with us about why it's so important for riders to be strong, coordinated and flexible (and some funny stories of how this work has saved her a few times in the saddle!). I met Jamie through a group called Equestrians of Colour, and am so appreciative of her perspective on diversity and accessibility within the horse industry, and how we can create positive change in simple ways to make it more inclusive for all. Definitely an important conversation in these ever-changing times. Jamie is the founder of Haybales & Barbells, a fitness for Equestrians business that provides rider specific fitness programs for equestrians of all levels. Jamie has been involved with horses since she was 10 and has done jumpers, dressage and is just starting her journey with Western riding. She started her career as an equine professional after completing her Masters Degree in Recreation Therapy, and working as an equine assisted recreation therapist and certified therapeutic riding instructor for individuals with special needs. Jamie also holds a certification in inclusive fitness training and believes that equestrian athletes can highly benefit from cross training in order to be the best athletes they can be for themselves and their horse. She is extremely passionate in educating riders about the importance of strength training, conditioning and flexibility training in order to become the best horse riders that they can be.
