Send us a Text Message.Danny Saber stops by the podcast to discuss his latest release with the late Micheal Hutchence as well as his relationship with Michael. We discuss how he chose his musical path, other artists he worked with, and more. **** In the great pantheon of musicians transcending above mere “celebrity” status, the late MICHAEL HUTCHENCE towers over most. A consummate “rock star” if there ever was one, he embodied the spirit and smoldering swagger of rock ‘n' roll while possessing one of the most iconic voices in the contemporary music scene. So, it was with an earth-rattling shudder when tragically he passed away in 1997, leaving a mind-numbingly impressive legacy across the entertainment realm. What many didn't know, however, is that he left some of his brilliance behind in the form of unreleased music. Producer, musician, and personal friend DANNY SABER (Madonna, Rolling Stones, U2) has completed some of these musical pieces to continue and extend Hutchence's impact. The new single “ONE WAY” was released, April 5, 2024 via Boss Sonics.“'One Way' is the culmination of nearly two decades of work,” says Saber. “One of the fundamental reasons for releasing this music is to allow the fans to hear Michael's voice on something new and fresh, offering a glimpse into what might have been, and, in turn, reawakening millions of people who may have simply forgotten about him.”“Michael first contacted me in 1995 soon after the release of my album It's Great When You're Straight,” recalls Saber, referring to the UK #1 album by his band Black Grape with Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder. “Michael was a huge fan of my record and wanted to find the right sound for a solo record, a sound that would galvanize all the success he had with INXS and allow him to establish himself as a solo artist and spread his creative wings outside the confines of being the frontman of one of the most successful bands in the world.”Working closely with Hutchence, the two became friends and creative partners. “Over the next two years, we became very close collaborators, and the period we worked together was one of the best times of my life,” Saber remembers. “I had just broken through with a #1 record and having Michael as a ‘big brother' to help me navigate this was so important to me.”Get your copy of "One-Way" hereMichael Hutchence Picture by Chris CuffaroDanny Saber Picture by Dear KarrPR - REYBEE, INC***If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comThis episode is on YouTube: https://youtu.be/-T_3IjUIPPIFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomHave a question or want to be a guest on the podcast email: dauna@bettertopodcast.comHave a question for our producer Rich Zei contact him at rich.zei@thirdearaudio.comIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast SuziTo see upcoming guests click here: https://www.dmneedom.com/better-topodcast©2024 Better To...Podcast with D. INXS (a phonetic play on "in excess") were an Australian rock band, formed as the Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their new wave/pop style, the band later developed a harder pub rock style that included funk and dance elements. In 1984, INXS had their first number-one hit in Australia with "Original Sin". The band achieved international success in the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s with the hit albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, and X, and the singles "What You Need", "Need You Tonight" (the band's only US number-one single), "Devil Inside", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Suicide Blonde" and "New Sensation". After Hutchence's death on 22 November 1997, INXS made appearances with several guest singers, and toured and recorded with Jon Stevens as lead singer, beginning in 2000. In 2005, members of INXS participated in Rock Star: INXS, a reality television series that culminated in the selection of Canadian J.D. Fortune as their new lead singer. Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Gribbin replaced Fortune as lead singer in 2011. During a concert on 11 November 2012, INXS stated that the performance would be their last, although they did not announce the band's permanent retirement. INXS won six Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards, including three for "Best Group" in 1987, 1989 and 1992; the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. INXS has sold over 70 million albums worldwide, making them one of Australia's highest selling music acts of all time.Complete setlist - 5/18/23Corey Hart - Never SurrenderCommentaryGenesis - Man On The CornerDon Henley - The Boys Of SummerTina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero (Beyond Thunderdome)CommentaryINXS - The One Thing (extended)INXS - Don't ChangeCommentaryINXS - Here Comes IIINXS - Original Sin/commentaryINXS -What You NeedINXS - I Send A MessageINXS - To Look At YouCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side AGuns In The SkyNew SensationDevil InsideNeed You Tonight/MediateThe Loved OneCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side BWild LifeNever Tear Us ApartMystifyKickCalling All NationsTiny DaggersCommentaryINXS - Disappear INXS - Suicide BlondeRecorded live at the She Shack Studio on April 17th and 18th 2023.© Copyright Danny Diess

Of course, with it being Tuesday night we are getting Triggered with all the new indie and underground we can cram into two hours' worth of radio with Kat Bass once again out with health concerns. It's that time of year again where November 22nd hits our calendars. Originally synonymous with the date that JFK was assassinated in Dallas in 1963. It's now synonymous with the INXS and wider music industry as the day we lost Michael Hutchence. As mentioned by Andrew Farriss in our recent deep dive interview, let's try and use this day, not just in solemnity but also as an acknowledgment of the massive contribution Michael made as a singer, a songwriter, a band member, a brother, and as a son. So into today's episode, we bring together for the first time Michael's peers such as Bono/U2, Michael Stipe from REM, and Simon LeBon from Duran Duran to share their admiration for Michael. But more importantly, our INXS patrons and the podcast listening community to share just what Michael meant to them. Sometimes melancholy, sometimes heartbreaking but on many occasions, truly uplifting and inspiring are the anecdotes and memories shared by our INXS alumni. Michael Kelland Hutchence: we love you, we miss you but most importantly you did matter and you are in our hearts forever! Shortly after it occurred, it was widely believed that the death of INXS singer Michael Hutchence was the result of autoerotic asphyxiation - a sex game gone wrong. This week on NSTS I wanted to dig a little deeper to shed some additional light onto the circumstances surrounding Hutchence's unfortunate passing, because there was a whole lot more going on than just sex games - a larger, important truth exists under the tabloidification.
La historia de uno de los más grandes cantantes Rock de los 80's y 90's. Uno de los grandes Frontman. Sus años con la banda y su complicada vida personal.
"Love Makes The World" Well, he may live on a remote farm now, but back in the 80s there was nothing remote about Andrew Farris. The guy was everywhere. The Perth-born/Sydney-raised musician got his start in a band called Doctor Dolphin, but you probably know him best from his second band: INXS A multi-instrumentalist adept at piano, harmonica, and guitar, Farris and his brothers Tim and Jon along with Michael Hutchence, Kirk Pengilly and Garry Beers were at one point the biggest band on the planet. And that was at a really competitive time—you had U2, Depeche Mode, R.E.M., and DURAN DURAN--and INXS at their peak were bigger than all of them. They put out ten records with Hutchence and two others after his death and they were elected to the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. Pals since high school, Farris and Hutchence were a lethal songwriting combination and Farris really was the sonic architect of INXS’s sound. Not only that, but he co-wrote all but one of the band's top-40 hits in the U.S. Farris went on to produce for everyone from GUN to Yotu Yindhi and Jenny Morris and he snagged a Producer of the Year award at the ARIAS in 1990. He was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2016 and in 2020 he was awarded with the Member of the Order of Australia. His new EP "Love Makes The World” is a country-tinged offering that’s contemplative, captivating and comforting. It’s a thoughtful blend of rootsy rock and lush acoustic numbers that perfectly capture the wondrous things the world does to the human heart. It’s aching, it’s wistful and it’s utterly lovely work. In this conversation Farriss talks to Alex about the joys of hard work, what it’s like to live in such a remote location and what made him pick up a guitar and write this new batch of such inspired material.

Guilty Hearts guitarist Edgar Rodriguez joins the podcast to talk about the 1986 film Dogs In Space, which stars the late Michael Hutchence (frontman of INXS) and is directed by music video director Richard Lowenstein (best known for his work with INXS). Though the film has strong INXS ties, the soundtrack actually skews more punk and lo-fi, highlighting bands from the late 1970s Australian punk scene as well as Iggy Pop, The Birthday Party, Boys Next Door, Gang of Four and Brian Eno. We also briefly chat about the INXS singing competition reality show from the 2000s where the band tried to find a new frontman to replace Hutchence and the art of being a frontman.
Special guest Lauren "Bingo" Knowles join Scott and Steve to discuss three idioms with Native American connections - "Bury the Hatchet," "Low Man on the Totem Pole," and "Indian Giver." Also, they talk about the new axe-throwing bar trend, INXS and Knowles' family weddings, and if drinking beer at the zoo is a good idea or the best idea ever. While my oldest friend was shaken with the death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in 1994, it wasn't until 1997 when I was shaken similarly, by the death of INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. The music of INXS had been part of my life since the late 80s, and had personal significance to me in a lot of ways. When I decided I was going to do Remembering shows in the vein of our RIP shows, I knew I was going to get to Hutchence eventually. So today, I take 2 1/2 hours to walk you through one of the best lead singers in rock to die far too early, at the age of 37. I feel like the music of INXS has sort of disappeared since he died, which is a damn shame. Lots of people seem like they've never heard of them, or they'll hear one of the band's singles and go "oh, is that who that is?" That breaks my heart. So let's cover Michael's entire career, including detours, and talk a bit about how it all ended. If you want a regular show, come back next week. The rest of you, strap in. It's an emotional one for me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Setlist: "Devil Inside" - INXS "Shine Like It Does" - INXS "Who Pays The Price" - INXS "Strange Desire" - INXS "Simple Simon" - INXS "Just Keep Walking" - INXS "Stay Young" - INXS "The One Thing" - INXS "Don't Change" - INXS "Original Sin" - INXS "I Send A Message" - INXS "What You Need" - INXS "This Time" - INXS "Kiss the Dirt (Live 1985)" - INXS "Need You Tonight" - INXS "Never Tear Us Apart" - INXS "Suicide Blonde" - INXS "Disappear" - INXS "Stairs" - INXS "Shining Star" - INXS "Heaven Sent" - INXS "Beautiful Girl" - INXS "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts (ft. Arguably one of the best rock musicians in recent times, Michael Hutchence died a tragic death at the young age of 37. The lead singer of INXS was a tormented soul who loved too much and felt pain too deeply. Today we honor him with a Last Ovation.
