We've got a very different experience for you today and it's called shape-note singing, or sometimes sacred harp singing. Our guest, Jim Page (or James Page when in print) gives us a rich taste-test of this venerable tradition of American religious singing for laypersons. I've only been around shape-note singing a couple times, and I have to admit that what you'll hear today is only a faint echo of the music experienced in person.
Nasser presents a commemoration of Rachel Corrie, an American nonviolence activist, diarist, and member of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement (ISM). These reflections centred around her personal experiences and the impact of her time in Rafah, Gaza. The issue of life and abortion has become forefront in the news in the United States and much of the world. It seems there has been a systematic cheapening of life in our culture and a break with simple human morality. The world is divided in three distinct camps, those that support abortion, those that oppose abortion, and those that ignore the issue as not to appear political. Even many churches have unscriptural view on the topic. Today, Bob welcomes as his guest Pat Page. Pat is the director of the Pregnancy center in Jasper, GA. Pat Page has been serving in this ministry since 2009 when her youngest son graduated high school. She became Executive Director in 2012. She has been married to her husband, Jim Page for almost 40 years, and they have lived in North Georgia since they married in 1981. They have 4 grown children and 8 grandchildren. On this episode Bob and Pat discuss the issue and why it truly is important to Christians. Please remember, we are only on the air because of your faithful support. When editor Jim Page recently tweeted about getting fired for requesting a single mental health day, it caught a lot of people's attention. Depression, long work hours, and burnout are all too common in the entertainment industry. The gig economy and being a freelancer instills fear and insecurity in creative professionals leaving us feeling undervalued and pressured to outperform and outlast. Thread. Please RT. I'm scared to say this publically, but I feel I need to. Recently I was fired from a show on a major TV channel because I needed a day off for mental health reasons. I made the mistake of being honest, instead of pretending to have a physical sickness. — Jimstagram (@iamjimpage) March 17, 2021 My own experience with burnout is what led me to start the Optimizer coaching & mentorship program so I could start to teach people to take positive steps towards healthier lifestyles and improved working conditions. After seeing Jim's tweet, I knew I had to have him on the show to talk about this important topic. Jim Page has been editing for 15 years in the UK cutting features, shorts, documentaries, and many other types of media. His work includes the feature "The Pugilist" which was nominated for the Michael Powell Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival, while short film "No More Wings" won best film at Tribeca, and "Hair Cut" was long listed for a BAFTA. Like many creatives, Jim is passionate about his work and takes pride in what he does. But the burden of the "The Passion Tax" often becomes too much to bear without sacrificing physical and mental well-being. Jim and I discuss ways in which creatives can take action on their own behalf and embrace the power of saying no. If you have ever felt like the long hours aren't worth the toll on your happiness and health, then this episode will inspire you to take control of your career and bring your life back into balance, not to mention helping you learn how to set boundaries or yourself, even if those boundaries might cost you a gig. 'Every director and producer worth their salt understands how important editing is' says Jim Page, a film and television editor with over 15 years of experience and counting. The list of clients that this impressively accomplished video editing professional will leave beginner editors of film salivating... Most won't get anywhere near the likes of ITV soap Coronation Street and BBC's EastEnders, alongside award-winning films like No More Wings (2018) and work for brands such as Samsung and Disney as well as documentaries for Discovery and other major tv channels. In this in-depth interview, video editing guru Jim Page talks about a previous lack of self confidence, losing his way and starting from the bottom of the ladder, to getting the chance to work on projects with increasing prestige. His advice includes not worrying about dropping money you probably don't have on expensive equipment, take any job you can to begin with, and the art of video editing itself. Chuck Rosina was going through his old cassette tape recordings of his radio shows from the 1990's, and he came across this little gem. It's a clip of a visit to the radio studio in the basement at MIT, where WMBR is located. Rich Caloggero is accompanying me on guitar. The song is clearly very Jim Page influenced (as are lots of my songs), and very dated. The atmosphere around the conversation that evening in the fall of 1999 really seems to capture the optimistic feeling within the very active global justice movement of the day, long before 911 substantively changed that.

Director Neville Pierce and editor Jim Page chat about Nev's newly released directed short films Bricks, Ghosted and Lock In, all starring well known names including Jason Flemyng, Alice Lowe and Ray Panthaki to name a few and collaborating with Jim who edited them all. We discuss Nev's writing for Empire Magazine (where he's a contributing editor) and learning from watching David Fincher on set with his actors while interviewing him for Total Film and after interviewing Jack Nicholson thinking can it get better than this, decided to make the leap to being a filmmaker himself. Fincher read one of his scripts and liked it and that is surely worthy of making the switch. Jim Page has been a fixture of Seattle's folk music scene since the early 1970's, including his successful campaign to legalize street performing through the city in 1974, and as one of the founder of the Pike Market Performers Guild, and their Busker Festival. In addition to strong folk roots, Jim has spent years in Ireland, and he's produced 23 records, the latest being A Hand Full of Songs.

"This was, like, two corpses in three hours. I mean, am I crazy? That's unusual, right?" Shane Black was gone from the scene for a decade before his return as not just writer but also director with 2005's “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” a comedy crime mystery that unjustly largely flew under everyone's radar. It was mostly critically acclaimed, but with Warner Bros.' modest release plans and minimal advertising, it didn't have much of a chance. And we're hoping to rectify that. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we wrap up our Shane Black series with his directorial debut, “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.” We talk about why we love this film so much, from the noir and pulp elements Black incorporates to his comedic sensibilities, from the casting to the nature of the buddies. We chat about Robert Downey, Jr. and Val Kilmer and why they work so well together here. We discuss the challenge Black had to get this film made, and subsequently how he made it. We look at some of the other actors, including Michelle Monaghan and Corbin Bernsen, and what they bring to the table. We touch on the cinematography by Michael Barrett, the editing by Jim Page and the brilliant score by John Ottman, wondering if we can track down the soundtrack somehow. We look at the script and some of the Blackisms in it, but also compare it with the final scene and how having Black on set to direct allowed for one of his actors to create a stronger moment for the character. And we wrap up our look at the IMFDb to see what a much smaller budget does to the amount of firepower shown off in the film. It's a brilliant ride of a film that thrills us to no end. "This was, like, two corpses in three hours. I mean, am I crazy? That’s unusual, right?" Shane Black was gone from the scene for a decade before his return as not just writer but also director with 2005’s “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” a comedy crime mystery that unjustly largely flew under everyone’s radar. It was mostly critically acclaimed, but with Warner Bros.’ modest release plans and minimal advertising, it didn’t have much of a chance. And we’re hoping to rectify that.
