On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday. The Panthers lost late in the third period against the Philadelphia Flyers with 21 seconds left in the third period thanks to Garnet Hathaway. They were denied any points in Vladimir Tarasenko's debut, what were the teams impression of Tarasenko's first game in Sunrise? He was spotted on Barkov's left wing on the night where he registered one shot on goal. The Panthers looked like a team that played three games in four nights as the Flyers tilted the ice after the first tv timeout of the third period. The guys give their three stars of the game and when they thought this game was lost. They also give their thoughts on the extensions of defenseman Gustav Forsling (who also scored his 10th goal of the season Thursday) and Jonah Gadjovich as the Panthers will have some continuity on their roster as there is expected to be only a slight rise in the cap come this offseason. The Panthers would later use that fuel to explode for three first period goals, including two 17 seconds apart. The Cats had multi-point efforts from Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Reinhart, Anton Lundell, and Gustav Forsling. Florida allowed 1 SOG in the last 14 minutes of the first, none of the two Arizona power plays. Panthers had all four lines going, including the newly formed line of Rodrigues-Barkov-Samoskevich, where they generated a good amount of chances on the night. San Jose Hockey Now Podcast #5: Duclair Talks "Black Ice" + What's Going Wrong With Barracuda?

San Jose Hockey Now Podcast

Anthony Duclair joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! But before we get to Duclair (1:04:33), who talks about his involvement with the “Black Ice” documentary, getting Joe Thornton to center him next year, and the Hockey Diversity Alliance/Evander Kane drama – Keegan McNally and Sheng Peng talk about the biggest San Jose Sharks' news of the week. First, we got the latest Erik Karlsson trade rumors out of the way (2:30). We recorded this episode yesterday, so we didn't talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs or Seattle Kraken's now-confirmed interest in Karlsson. Then, we drilled down on Martin Kaut's accusations that a San Jose Barracuda coach tried to get him to fight in every game (8:36). It must be mentioned that the San Jose Sharks categorically deny Kaut's claims. Sheng talked with about a dozen league sources to get their opinion of Kaut's claims and to investigate if there's a deeper problem with the Barracuda. Did the Barracuda try to coerce Kaut to fight every night (13:56)? Sheng and Keegan agree with Kaut that there were Barracuda youngsters who were playing for themselves (23:19). Keegan felt it was team that lacked discipline, and Sheng adds that “selfish” young players are normal at the AHL level. Sheng also thinks there was validity to Kaut's problem with the Sharks' contract offer, but it speaks to a larger question with how Mike Grier and Doug Wilson appear to be operating differently (28:14). What do Jeffrey Viel, Jonah Gadjovich, Ryan Carpenter, Andrew Agozzino, Evgeny Svechnikov, and Jacob Peterson have to do with all this? Through it all, Kaut still wants to return to the NHL, and translated from the original Czech interview with Robert Rampa, had an interesting quote about his new HC Dynamo Pardubice head coach, former San Jose Sharks draft pick Vaclav Varada (37:30). Moving beyond the Kaut story, Sheng digs into how all of the Cuda veterans left this off-season, and if that's a red flag for a “culture” problem within the organization (39:23). Sheng talked to top AHL reporter Patrick Williams of NHL and AHL.com on his perception about what's going on with the Barracuda. Sheng expanded on what he's heard about the departures of Agozzino (43:05), Montana Onyebuchi (45:06), and Viel (46:35). Sheng then talked about JD Young's recent Locked On Sharks podcast about the Barracuda's culture problem (50:02). Sheng talked about AHL norms with meals (51:37) and seating wives and girlfriends (53:58), which were issues brought up in JD's podcast – and how it doesn't appear that the Cuda have been doing anything unusual in those areas. There was one random Joe Will complaint that Sheng got from his sources (56:45). Besides Kaut's fighting allegations, however, Sheng doesn't think there's a significant culture problem with the Barracuda (59:10). They aren't necessarily considered a first-class AHL organization, and there are areas where they can improve, but they're not necessarily dysfunctional or problematic either. “The Barracuda are just another AHL organization.” Now, Anthony Duclair (1:04:33)! Duclair talks about “Black Ice”, a hockey documentary that details the gut-wrenching racism that Duclair and his peers faced in youth hockey (1:05:13). “Black Ice”, produced by LeBron James and Drake, is out now, exclusively at AMC Theatres – it's also the story of the pre-20th century Colored Hockey League, and its many innovations. Sheng discusses his reaction to the documentary. Duclair talks about the first time that he was subjected to racist remarks from another youth team's parents – he was just nine or 10! – and how often he had to deal with that as a kid (1:07:15). Duclair shares the message from his parents that got him through the racism (1:11:45). Through his Duclair Foundation, Anthony held youth hockey camps in Florida and Montreal this summer, and he talked about how racism is still a real thing for kids playing today (1:13:10). Keegan asks Duclair if he's going to try to get Joe Thornton to center him next year. Duclair revealed that throughout the Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup Final run, Thornton would frequently FaceTime with his ex-Panthers teammates (1:16:00). Duclair shares his thoughts about Givani Smith (1:18:39), who's coming with him from Florida. He also touches on his chat with head coach David Quinn and GM Mike Grier after the trade (1:19:30) – Duclair revealed what he told them was his goal this season (1:20:25). Duclair added his thoughts about the recent Evander Kane/Hockey Diversity Alliance Twitter spat (1:20:48). And…is Duclair Barbie or Oppenheimer (1:23:48)?Listen to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast — it's a new link — on Apple Podcasts and Spotify and Google Podcasts.Subscribe to the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast YouTube channel, we're trying to get over 1K subscribers! ★ Support this podcast ★

Apologies!Patrick Marleau joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! But before we get to Mr. Shark, Keegan and Sheng offer their reactions to what the San Jose Sharks did with their nine picks in the 2023 Draft (1:11). Sheng talks about some of the new things that he learned about Michkov in Nashville (2:15) and the rest of the Sharks' Draft (13:05), headlined by Will Smith. Sheng also shares his belief on who the Sharks would've drafted if Adam Fantilli had gone to the Anaheim Ducks at No. 2, like originally expected. We talk about Adam Gajan and the San Jose Sharks not taking a goalie at No. 36 (16:30). Sheng then grades San Jose's Draft (17:15).Keegan and Sheng keep the conversation going in Sheng's Lyft, talking about the San Jose Sharks not qualifying Noah Gregor (17:51) and Jonah Gadjovich (20:52). Keegan talks about today's RFA decisions as a continuation of Grier's purging of the old guard's players, and how the Sharks have opened up spots on the roster for more talented and accomplished forwards who weren't qualified like Daniel Sprong and Max Comtois (23:30).Keegan then shares his thoughts about the Draft (27:55). Why Will Smith (28:30)? He's a big fan of Quentin Musty and Kasper Hultunnen (31:30). He also touched on Brandon Svoboda (32:45), the three straight defensemen, Luca Cagnoni, Axel Lander, Eric Pohlkamp that the San Jose Sharks drafted (34:30), and the Sharks' last two picks, David Klee and Yegor Rimashevsky. Locked On Sharks - Daily Podcast On The San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks dropped both games this weekend, losing 3-2 in a shootout to the LA Kings and imploding in the third to the Calgary Flames for a 5-2 loss. We start by discussing how this team continues to get no contributions from players outside of Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl, Erik Karlsson, and Logan Couture. Then look at how James Reimer almost stole the Kings' game, and how the forward lines continue to drop off behind Meier and Hertl (10:00). Finally, Kaapo Kahkonen's messy third period and their implosion to the Flames as well as Jonah Gadjovich has won my heart (18:00).Check out the podcast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Dana and Landi recap tonights tilt against the Vancouver Canucks. The Sharks would start the game off with a bang, Nick Bonino would score 18 seconds in but the Sharks would fail to hold the lead. Dakota Joshua would score 2 goals in the first to give Vancouver the lead heading into intermission. The Sharks would score 2 goals in a 17 shot 2nd period, however just as they did in the first would allow 2 Canucks goals. Jonah Gadjovich would score an early 3rd period goal to draw the Sharks even after a great individual effort in front of the net. Kevin Labanc would also score a sweet shot from the slot to give the Sharks a lead late in the 3rd. Just as they allowed goals at the end of the prior 2 periods, the Sharks would allow Vancouver to tie it late and eventually get the OT winner. San Jose Sharks forward, Jonah Gadjovich joined Matt and Jeff as his Sharks welcome the Canucks on Thursday. Talked about the game coming up and why it’s so important. Talked about how the season has gone. It’s going pretty good so far. Has learned that this is a tough league. But this is a really good group with a lot of older guys. The coaches are helping with his development. Talked about his time in the organization and how it helped him develop to get to the NHL. Said the Canucks were there for him right out of the gate. Provided strength and skating skills. Does credit the organization to get to where he is. A lot of hard work on his end but credits the team for opportunities to get better. The Sharks are giving him the opportunity to play in the league. Talked about how all the training has started to pay off. Talked about the waiver process. Was very shocked. A lot of emotions after spending near 5 years to become a Vancouver Canucks than at the snap of a finger he is with a different organization. Would have liked to play more here. Talked about his game last year. Tough to give up the puck and have it end in the back of the net. Thought about the game all summer and used it as a chip on his shoulder. Talked about the fighting. Will do whatever his team needs him to do. Talked about his connection with Spencer Martin. He is his brother in law. They had to buy a package to watch the game. Really deserved that opportunity. Super happy to see his success this season. Patrick Johnston of the Province and Post Media joined for his regular hit. Started off talking about when we could see a trade with the Canucks. There isn’t a huge rush. Still a month and a bit before the deadline. They still have to play at an incredible clip to keep themselves in the playoff race. Every loss makes it so much harder. You need to keep some of these guys motivated. Can’t just go and turn it around right now. They probably know they aren’t there and they need more to be contender a couple season from now. Answered the poll question. Believes that it’ll be 3, for sure. Talked about Bo Horvat. If he is your number 3 centre, you are a very good team. Talked about Tyler Toffoli. Talked about Demko. Thinks he is the calmest goalie that has every played here. He is ice cold. Talked about if he could get some Vezina consideration. Talked about Jack Rathbone and when we could see him with the big club. Talked about the Canucks front office. Talked about full capacity coming back to stadiums. The President and CEO of Formula E, Jamie Reigle joined Matt and Jeff and talked about why Vancouver was such an attraction for their circuit. They look for cities that are aligned with their values. Can’t think of a better place. Want an iconic setting around the water in False Creek. There is a heritage in racing here. There is evidence that the city did a great job with Indy. Talked about the sensations that racing fans are accustomed to. There will be some differences for sure but at the end of the day you will see a great car race. New fans would liken it to the sounds of a star wars race and the sound of the future. Talked about the impact Drive to Survive has had on the industry. Talked about the festival. There will be concerts and conferences that align with their values that are important to their partners. Just trying to create more content and excitement for the fans. The plans in Vancouver are very ambitious but all that combined will pull in a lot of people. Talked about the car, itself. Top speed in the race is around 200km/h. Says it’s the fastest game of chess on wheels. There is a lot of sophistication going on. There is a lot of overtaking that they think is different. Talked about how and where to get tickets and what kind of packages are available at canadianefest.com.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week in anguish: - Ardella is experiencing a bout of PPDS - Premature Preseason Depression Syndrome - after suffering six separate deflations in the span of a week. - Tristan tries to square the circle of being told that hockey players are simultaneously hyper-competitive maniacs and cagey veterans pacing themselves through a meaningless preseason. - We mourn the loss of Jonah Gadjovich, emblematic of a whole generation of ballyhooed prospects who've been frittered away to nothing.  - Jonathen Dahlen, the Sisyphus of the Allsvenskan, looks poised to begin the season on the San Jose Sharks roster, and Tristan has some thoughts. - Ardella tracks Canucks' historical opening night records, and we delve into the sad story of our declining preseason betting odds to win the Stanley Cup.  - How Did We Not Fully Internalize just how long and futile was the journey to the team's first ever playoff series win.   Thanks for listening! A massive day in sports on a Thursday edition of Sekeres and Price. Matt and Blake start off by talking about Carey Price and the courage it takes to enter the Player Substance Abuse Program. With a preview of the Thursday Nighter, in Seattle, Cpt. Gregg Bell joined Matt and Blake a day early to talk about their chances against the Rams. Says tonight will determine how they feel about their season but 2-2 feels much better than 1-4 which they could have been staring down after the final whistle. No team has beaten, picked off, sacked Russell Wilson than the Rams. Talked about Chris Carson and how it would surprise him if he was in tonight, after not practicing all week. No one person will beat Donald, it has to be the scheme. Thomas Drance of the Athletic joined Matt and Blake and started chatting about Jonah Gadjovich. Said that this was probably the right time to put him through while most teams are sitting around 30 players still. Talked about his season predictions. Jeff Paterson joined on a busy day. Started off by talking about Jonah Gadjovich. Says there is good arguments on both sides. Thinks he deserved more from the Vancouver Canucks. Talked about how he only got 5 meaningful minutes in a mean-nothing game. Talked about their own draft picks in the later rounds who have made it. It’s not a long list… Talked about the preseason debuts for 40&43. Said that with the workout Jim Hughes put them through, coming down here was like Club Med. Conditioning won’t be the issue, timing is another matter. It was a highly entertaining Take 5 Thursday on Gadjovich.
