Injuries, rest and returns are a league-wide overarching theme as the regular season winds down. Connor McDavid made a surprise return in the Oilers' win over St. Louis, notching three assists including a key play on the game-winner. Edmonton isn’t the same without McDavid and Draisaitl, and getting healthy ahead of the playoffs is crucial. The Leafs dropped a rough one to the Panthers Tuesday, then bounced back against Tampa Bay behind a Matthew Knies hat trick on Wednesday, leading to much discussion about which Florida team the Leafs matchup better against. In Minnesota, a wild 8–7 OT win over the Sharks featured big returns from Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek, and what was probably Marc-Andre Fleury’s final home start. Vegas is also eyeing full health with Pietrangelo and Hague recovering, but Hertl and Eichel’s absences are causing concern up front. Jason Strudwick joins to talk about getting up to game speed for players like Evander Kane and Gabe Landeskog, his concerns about the Oilers' goaltending and how Quinton Byfield could be a difference-maker in this year's playoffs.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dnes k nám prišiel zberateľ replík starovekých kultúr, papierových betlehemov a vianočných ozdôb - Ján Hertlík. Ako prežíva advent človek, ktorého celý rok obklopujú symboly Vianoc? Náš hosť nám porozprával, aké betlehemy by sme našli v jeho zbierke, prečo zbiera práve sochy Santa Clausov, Mikulášov, luskáčikov, alebo sklenené ozdoby a adventné kalendáre. Jeho vášňou je cestovanie a dnes nás určite zoberie minimálne do Egypta či Grécka. Zhováral sa s ním Juraj Turis.

Jonathan Becher joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! The San Jose Sharks' president talks about the Macklin Celebrini effect and why it took the Sharks so long to embrace the rebuild. But before we get to Becher (1:09:57), Sheng and Keegan talk about Celebrini signing his ELC. Where does Celebrini fit into the San Jose Sharks' line-up? What are our too early predictions for how many points that Celebrini scores in his rookie campaign? Who wins the 2025 Calder Trophy? (1:50) Ty Emberson also signed…does Emberson take a top-four defenseman job on the Sharks by the end of the season? GM Mike Grier hasn't added any blueliners via free agency, is that a sign of his confidence in younger D like Emberson, Shakir Mukhamadullin, and Henry Thrun? (36:26) Finally, we turn our focus on the San Jose Barracuda: Why did Nathan Todd leave? How impressive were GM Joe Will's free agent signings? (51:29) And now, Becher! (1:09:57) Three years ago, the San Jose Sharks seemed unwilling to go into a rebuild. Behind the scenes, what's changed in recent seasons, that the Sharks now embrace a rebuild? (1:11:00) How has owner Hasso Plattner's attitude changed about rebuilding? (1:13:47) Two decisions about the same player seem to speak to that shift of attitude? In Mar. 2022, the Sharks re-signed Tomas Hertl for eight years. Two years later, the Sharks traded him. (1:15:14) Plattner was recently spotted at the Jul. 4 prospects scrimmage: How much more involved is Hasso with the Sharks now? (1:17:22) What's the Macklin Celebrini effect on the Sharks, from the Draft Party to jersey sales to prospects scrimmage attendance to more? (1:19:26) What's so valuable about having so many San Jose Sharks alumni back with the organization? (1:29:26) Sheng has one more Hertl question for Becher. (1:32:38) What's going on with the Sharks' SAP Center management agreement? Becher said the terms change unfavorably against the Sharks on Jul. 1, 2025. What does that mean for how long the Sharks will play at SAP Center? (1:33:57) Finally, there's an ongoing lawsuit against the Sharks, Sharks Ice, and former Jr. Sharks coach Kevin Whitmer for failing to follow proper procedures to protect Jr. Sharks players from alleged pedophile Whitmer. What's the latest on the lawsuit? (1:39:00) Becher urges fans to get Joe Thornton retirement jersey tickets now -- they're selling fast! -- and shares that there will also be a Legends alumni game for Jumbo. (1:40:00)
William Eklund finished his first full season in the NHL. How does it compare to other San Jose Sharks' greats first full seasons? Start by reviewing Eklund's first full season, how he was utilized in all situations, where his scoring came from, and his experiment at center. Then, how did Eklund's age 21 season compare to Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl, and Timo Meier's first full seasons? Plus, who he played with compared to Couture, Hertl, and Timo in their first seasons. Finally, what does Eklund need to continue to work on as he continues his development, and what should his production look like next year? Bruce Cassidy will try to counter Pete DeBoer's adjustments in what has become a chess match between the two coaches. DeBoer's team broke out faster from the goal line to the neutral zone which created odd-man rushes in bunches in Game 3. The Golden Knights lead the best-of-seven series 2-1, but the Stars have to be confident after taking the third game on the road. Dallas was the best road team in the NHL during the regular season. VGK didn't respond well to Cassidy's coaching on Saturday. Cassidy gave the team off Sunday because he said they were tired. Bruce Cassidy also admitted that Tomas Hertl has been moved to lineup on a wing with William Karlsson because he wants Hertl to take faceoffs. This could mean Karlsson, who missed two practices, has an injury of some sort. We also have our Game 4 Locks and Predictions.
Mikael Granlund was on the verge of being bought out by the Pittsburgh Penguins before his trade to the San Jose Sharks. What a difference in scenery can do for a career. Granlund posted a career-high in time on ice and led the Sharks in points. Can Granlund continue to replicate Tomas Hertl's production? Review Granlund's season and what made him so successful this year, and look at the analytics behind his production. Then, ask if Granlund can continue to replicate Hertl's production for a fraction of the cost and with more flexibility on his contract and why he should be able to do so. Finally, look at what is next for Granlund as the Sharks enter the offseason and if Granlund will be the Sharks' last good trade piece. Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights now have home ice advantage in their opening round series vs the Dallas Stars by virtue of Monday's 4-3 win on the road. VGK won with netfront presence and by scoring twice on the power play. The debut performance by Mark Stone and Tomas Hertl on the same line was a successful one. Stone returned to the ice for the first time since Feb 20 and he not only scored a goal at 1:23 into the game, but it was his only shot of the contest. He scored his goal with Hertl in front of the net. Hertl also scored a goal after he won his faceoff and dove to the net to pot his first VGK playoff goal. A third goal was scored by Brayden McNabb with Ivan Barbeshev setting up shop in front of Jake Ottinger. Dallas fans booed Stone every time he touched the puck and even booed him during an intermission television interview. Stone logged 17:09 of ice time in his first game back. We graded Logan Thompson's performance and discussed if he will be in net in Wednesday's Game 2.

Including injury updates to Toronto Maple Leafs rearguard Morgan Rielly, Minnesota Wild big man Marcus Foligno, and most intriguingly, the impending return of newly-acquired forward Tomas Hertl to the Vegas Golden Knights lineup. Flip also discusses the current state of the suddenly-struggling Florida Panthers and what he thinks needs to turn around if the Panthers want to go on another prolonged run at the Stanley Cup. In the same breath of struggle-focused discussion, Flip takes a look into the Philadelphia Flyers, John Tortorella, and why this club has been able to overachieve for most of the NHL and fantasy hockey seasons. Flip wraps the show by talking about the future of Seattle Kraken prospect Shane Wright and serves up his Wednesday night betting breakdown for tonight's five-game betting board. Dan and Shawn are joined by Paul Maurice (19:11). He talked about the Florida Panthers' leadership, improvements they still need to make, the importance of their identity and culture, and why nothing will come as a surprise to them this season with the way last season played out. The guys discussed the fallout from the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, in particular offering opinions on the Pittsburgh Penguins decision to trade Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes and the return they got. They agreed that the New York Rangers and Hurricanes as contenders in the Eastern Conference with the Panthers, and talked about the wide-open Western Conference, in particular the kind of impact Tomas Hertl might be able to have on the Vegas Golden Knights. Rosen and Roarke also discussed the Golden Knights' ability to add Hertl and the salary cap ramifications for both them and the San Jose Sharks. They also talked about the New Jersey Devils goaltending situation, the additions of Jake Allen and Kaapo Kahkonen on Friday, how it resets their depth at the position and still sets them up to look for a No. 1 goalie like Jacob Markstrom in the offseason.
Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon joins OverDrive to discuss the team's aggressive approach at the NHL Trade Deadline. McCrimmon shares his thoughts on how Vegas' trade for Tomas Hertl came about, why the salary cap machinations of the Golden Knights are being misconstrued by many within the hockey community, why the Golden Knights have chosen to trade away so many of its' high draft picks during the organization's infancy, and more.

The Trade Deadline was quiet for the Detroit Red Wings, but their last 3 games haven't been...and not for good reason. Tune in as we open by discussing Steve Yzerman's one trade (Klim Kostin to San Jose) at the deadline, his thoughts on the Grand Rapids Griffins (like Berggren, who was called up, or Edvinsson, Kasper, Mazur, & others) and how they affected his decision to stand pat, on our analysis on whether he made the right decision & what's to come this offseason (4:10). Next, Detroit's 3 losses to Colorado, Arizona, and Vegas: how Lalonde's squad did without Dylan Larkin, needing Kane, DeBrincat, Raymond, and Seider to take over, Lyon and Reimer struggling, Walman benched, Rasmussen hurt, and the impact of the losses on Detroit's playoff push (17:20). After that, a look on the standings and schedule ahead to see if Hockeytown still has a chance at a playoff appearance (37:00). We then circle back and discuss the rest of the NHL Trade Deadline, including the Golden Knights acquiring Hanifin, Hertl, and others, San Jose's baffling trade, Carolina getting Guentzel, Toronto not doing much, & lots more (46:15) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:06:20) - enjoy! TSN Hockey Analyst Mike Johnson joins OverDrive to discuss a hectic day of the NHL Trade Deadline. Johnson shares his thoughts on the Vegas Golden Knights acquiring Tomas Hertl in a buzzer-beating deal, whether Jake Allen and Kaapo Kähkönen represent a significant enough upgrade in net for the New Jersey Devils, Linus Ullmark reportedly garnering interest from the Los Angeles Kings, and more.
Ray Ferraro and Darren Dreger break down a busy trade deadline period and look at which teams have done their best to pull away from the pack for the stretch run. Vegas surprises again with Hertl acquisition. Jets improve but have a tough road through the central. Oilers are a good team but need Stu Skinner to excel. Craig Conroy stayed true to his word on expiring contracts but now needs to mend the Markstrom situation. Colorado's targeted moves makes them a very tough out for anyone. Carolina and Florida took chances to try and bolster their Cup chances. Leafs added depth D but was it enough to get them deeper in the playoffs?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
