Twee harde knallen klinken op een donderdagavond over de galerij van de Furmerusflat in Sneek. „Met twee schoten maakt Daniël een einde aan het leven van zijn vriendin Richelle en dat van zichzelf”, vertelt verslaggever Wietske Koen in onze misdaadpodcast Radio Ramkraak. Hij is 33 jaar, heeft een gewelddadig verleden en draagt jarenlang een doorgeladen vuurwapen in zijn broekband. Daniël el Makrini woont op de bovenste verdieping van de gele Furmerusflat in Sneek. Daar gaat het vorige week donderdag gruwelijk mis. Hij schiet zijn zwangere vriendin Richelle (32) neer en maakt daarna een eind aan zijn eigen leven. Als verslaggever Wietske die avond aankomt in de Furmerusstraat is het politieonderzoek al in volle gang: „Buurtbewoners wisten me te vertellen dat Richelle zwaargewond met een traumahelikopter naar het ziekenhuis in Groningen was gebracht. Daar is ze later overleden aan haar verwondingen.” De relatie tussen Daniël en Richelle begint eind 2024. In augustus van dit jaar plaatst zij een Facebookbericht waarin ze aankondigt een dochter te verwachten. „Er stond een foto bij van het embryo, een paar kleine schoentjes en een bordje met I love papa”, weet Wietkse. „Daniël woonde sinds een jaar in de flat. Hij kwam oorspronkelijk uit Leeuwarden en was bekend bij de politie vanwege drugs- en geweldsdelicten”, zegt Wietske. In 2018 treft de politie bij een huiszoeking een doorgeladen pistool aan in zijn broekband, samen met wat cocaïne. „Hij verklaarde dat hij het wapen al vijf jaar bij zich droeg”, zegt Wietske. „Over de drugs verklaarde hij dat die van hem waren, omdat hij dagelijks nogal wat gebruikte.” In de gevangenis mishandelt Daniël drie medewerkers. Een van hen raakt ernstig gewond. „Ze liep een gebroken kaak en jukbeen op, kon niet meer eten, zag dubbel en haar gezicht was niet meer symmetrisch,” vertelt Wietske. Psychiatrisch onderzoek wijst uit dat Daniel leidt aan een stoornis binnen het schizofreniespectrum, gecombineerd met een licht verstandelijke beperking en kenmerken had van psychopathie. Daniël wordt veroordeeld tot tien maanden gevangenisstraf en tbs met voorwaarden, die voorwaarden golden vorige week nog steeds, al is niet duidelijke wat die inhielden. Voor deze aflevering gaan wij op bezoek bij Daniël Kluken, internationaal master coach, trainer en high performance deskundige. Daniël is gespecialiseerd in mentale training, leiderschap en gedragsverandering. Hij begeleidt mensen die onder hoge druk grote prestaties moeten of willen leveren. Ferdinand praat onder andere met hem over persoonlijk leiderschap, NLP (Neuro-Linguïstisch Programming), jezelf overstijgen en het belang van ademwerk. Daniël Kluken (44 jaar) sloeg, naar eigen zeggen, aan het begin van zijn carrière een verkeerde afslag. Snelle auto's, bakken met geld maar kampend met zwaarlijvigheid en een verontrustend middelengebruik. Hij had een leven vol euforie over zijn succes en tegelijkertijd was daar het gevaar van downsizing. Er kwam een punt waarop hij geen energie meer had om dit leven nog vol te houden. Zijn idee van succes bleek uiteindelijk niet succesvol. Rond zijn 30ste besloot hij met alles te breken om zichzelf opnieuw uit te vinden. Na het maken van een wereldreis, volgde Daniël diverse opleidingen en cursussen, las talloze boeken en begon ondertussen met het geven van trainingen in binnen- en buitenland. Hij volgde de NLP opleiding bij de grondleggers van NLP, Carmen Bostic John Grinder & Michael Carroll. Naast NLP verzamelde hij technieken van over de hele wereld om zichzelf zo breed mogelijk te informeren en op te leiden. Zijn leraren waren onder andere Tony Robbins, Wim Hof, S.N. Goenka en Andy Harrington. Met zijn achtergrond in projectmanagement en als trainer in marketing, vertaalde hij de krachtige technieken van persoonlijke ontwikkeling en NLP naar bruikbare tools voor zowel particulieren als bedrijven en grote instellingen. Mensen van meer dan 40 nationaliteiten volgden zijn trainingen, onder anderen cliënten uit Polen, Canada, Zweden en Amerika. Onder al het succes van zijn cliënten huist volgens Daniël vaak een gevoel van leegte. Dat gevoel kent Daniël ook vanuit zijn eigen ervaring met succes. Veel mensen streven naar een leven met veel geld en status en richten zich daarbij steeds op het volgende succes. Daniël is een man in de Bijbel die wordt omschreven als iemand die een “uitnemende geest” heeft. Als gevolg hiervan bracht God hem in de gunst bij de koning, hetgeen leidde tot zijn benoeming boven alle andere leiders van het land. Maar zijn toewijding aan God werd beproefd. De leiders hielden er niet van dat Daniël in de gunst was bij de koning. Dus manipuleerden zij de koning om een regeringsbesluit te ondertekenen waarin het voor iedereen verboden werd om gedurende dertig dagen iemand anders dan de koning te aanbidden. Bij schending van dit besluit werd men in de leeuwenkuil gegooid. Daniël dook niet onder voor dit besluit. Hij was meer bezorgd over zijn toewijding aan God. Als je het verhaal kent, dan weet je dat God hem volledig heeft beschermd en uiteindelijk werd verheerlijkt. Ik wil je aanmoedigen om met diezelfde uitmuntende geest te leven. Wees vastberaden om voor God te leven op elk gebied van je leven. Als je dat doet, zul je aan je ware doel voldoen en God in alles wat je doet verheerlijken, net zoals Daniël.

‘Daniël’ is begin twintig als hij een meisje ontmoet dat zegt zestien te zijn. Er ontstaat een flirt, maar weken later biecht ze op dat ze veertien is. ‘Daniël’ besluit de relatie toch voort te zetten en heeft seks met haar, en later ook met haar vijftienjarige vriendin. Hij wordt veroordeeld voor ontucht en het bezit van kinderporno. We reizen af naar Hollywood in 1949, waar het leven van Frieda Belinfante stilstaat en de oorlogsjaren in Nederland ver weg lijken. Totdat haar oude vriend Willem Arondéus verschijnt. Tot grote verbazing van Frieda, want Willem is in de oorlog geëxecuteerd door de nazi's. Samen namen ze deel aan de beroemde aanslag op het Amsterdamse bevolkingsregister, maar ze hebben daar vanwege hun geaardheid nooit erkenning voor gekregen.

Established five years ago by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, Data.org is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the use of data and AI for social good.  The rapid evolution of AI and data science presents both an unprecedented opportunity and a growing challenge for the social impact sector. While AI-powered tools have the potential to enhance decision-making, streamline operations, and increase efficiency, the gap between the private sector's adoption of AI and the ability of nonprofits to leverage these technologies remains significant. One of the most immediate impacts of AI on data work is its ability to automate many traditionally labor-intensive tasks, from data cleaning and visualisation to sophisticated data analysis. For social impact organisations, this represents a powerful efficiency boost, particularly for those with limited resources. Yet, while AI can enhance accessibility to data and streamline its use, it cannot replace human judgment, particularly in contexts involving vulnerable communities. The ethical deployment of AI remains paramount, and organisations must ensure that human oversight is preserved in critical decision-making processes. Beyond efficiency gains, AI is also reshaping how nonprofits and global grant-making organisations assess impact. Many NGOs possess vast repositories of historical data that remain largely untapped due to resource constraints. AI-driven document analysis and natural language processing are now unlocking these archives, enabling organisations to extract meaningful insights and make data-driven decisions.  The conversation also delves into the broader ethical considerations of AI, particularly the risks associated with overcorrection in training data. AI models are designed to reflect the information they are fed, and any attempt to engineer ethical biases — whether to correct for historical exclusions or to impose specific viewpoints — must be handled with caution. The balance between mitigating bias and preserving accuracy remains a complex challenge, as evidenced by recent controversies over AI-generated historical imagery that distorted reality in the name of diversity. The takeaway is that ethical AI cannot be an afterthought. It must be integrated into the design and development process from the outset, ensuring that social scientists, ethicists, and technologists collaborate in real-time rather than operating in silos.
