A gauge of the dollar and longer-dated Treasuries steadied in Asia after they declined Tuesday following President Donald Trump's push to oust Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The gap between five and 30-year yields is at its steepest since 2021. While political meddling in monetary policy after Trump's move drew much of the market's focus, traders face key risks this week with Nvidia's earnings and Friday's inflation report. Even with tariff and geopolitical headlines flaring, investors remain anchored to a bullish market script: a likely September rate cut, resilient economic growth, and corporate earnings strong enough to keep equity sentiment afloat. We look at the state of play with Robert Schein, Chief Investment Officer at Blanke Schein Wealth Management.Meantime, Asian equities struggled for direction at the open Wednesday as investors await Nvidia's earnings for guidance on where the markets head next after a strong rally since April. Shares edged up in Australia while gauges in Japan and South Korea were flat. We get more on the markets from Kerry Craig, Global Market Strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management. He speaks with Bloomberg's Paul Allen and Avril Hong on The Asia Trade.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week, in an episode from the Allocator's Edge mini-series of the Value Perspective we're joined by Fabio Cecutto, the Head of Listed Equity at Willis Towers Watson. Fabio brings a wealth of experience, having joined Willis Towers Watson in 2006 after roles at JP Morgan Asset Management in their multi-manager division and as a sell-side analyst at Banca IMI, part of Intesa Sanpaolo. In the episode, we explore how Fabio and his team assess the qualitative side of fund managers, especially when past performance can be misleading; the differences between boutiques and larger firms; the role of behavioural psychology in team structure; and finally, how to stay grounded when the feedback loop between process and outcome is painfully slow. JPMorgan Asset Management is seeking hedges against credit market losses as risks rise and spreads tighten. “There’s value in shorts and credit protection,” Oksana Aronov, the firm’s head of market strategy for alternative fixed income, tells Bloomberg News’ James Crombie and Bloomberg Intelligence’s Jody Lurie in the latest Credit Edge podcast. “It is very undervalued today because of the complacency in the market,” says Aronov, referring to the high-grade credit default swap index. Aronov and Lurie also discuss the increasing amount of bond and loan interest being repaid with additional debt, dwindling recovery rates, private debt convergence and high-grade opportunities.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Financial markets have steadied in the past two weeks - the S&P 500 on Friday posted its longest winning streak in two decades - amid signs that talks with Asian nations are progressing and trade tensions between China and the US are thawing. President Donald Trump also said in an interview Sunday that he's willing to lower the tariff on Chinese imports to spur trade. Sentiment is also being supported after robust US jobs data alleviated concerns of a deep US recession. We hear from Kerry Craig, Global Market Strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management. He speaks to Bloomberg's Shery Ahn and Haidi Stroud-Watts. Plus - Prime Minister Anthony Albanese won a significant victory for his center-left Labor Party on Saturday, becoming the first Australian leader to win consecutive elections in over two decades. For some analysis, we heard from Diana Mousina, Deputy Chief Economist at AMP, and Andrea Carson, Professor of Political Communication at La Trobe University.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Happy new year! And what better way to celebrate the freshly torn calendar page than by welcoming one of Derek's favorite writers to the show to tell us what's in store for the 2025 economy. Michael Cembalest is the chairman of market and investment strategy for JPMorgan Asset Management, and the author of the truly spectacular newsletter, 'Eye on the Market.' Today, we start with stocks and describe the truly historic—and historically unprecedented—dominance of the so-called Mag-7 tech giants. Then, we draw the connection between Big Tech's historic run and the surge of AI spending. After a discussion on the history and future of nuclear power in America, we do a pit stop on the European economy, where we evaluate the continent's tradeoff between safety and growth, and move on to China to disentangle that economy's slowdown. Finally, we connect it all back to a Trump agenda that is a fascinating brew of old-fashioned Reaganite deregulation, newfangled crypto enthusiasm, mid-19th century tariff obsession, mid-20th century industrialization policy, and ... a bunch of other ingredients that I think I'll just let Michael tell you about.
